Brazil marks 201st  I Day celebrations, vows to enhance bilateral relations

ISLAMABAD, Sep 08 (APP):Brazilian Ambassador to Pakistan, Olyntho Vieira, has said that Brazil and Pakistan were enjoying long rooted 75-years diplomatic relation and keen to expand the trade volume between the two nations.
He expressed these views while delivering a speech at a reception of the 201st celebrations of ‘Brazil Independence Day’ here on Thursday.
Brazilian envoy stressed the need for expanding businesses from both countries to look more thoroughly into the prospect of investments, joint ventures, or partnerships in sectors like textiles and meat processing.
The envoy said that Brazil and Pakistan were both developing countries and also had a common position on many issues of the international agenda and shared challenges such as poverty and the effects of climate change, which the two countries could fight jointly.
He highlighted that his country recognized Pakistan in 1948, which was the first nation in South America, and established an Embassy in the country’s former capital Karachi.
The ambassador said there was much potential existed which should be harnessed between the two countries, especially in the agriculture sector.
Brazilian envoy said it had been on an upward trajectory since 2018 and after reaching US$ 1 billion in 2020.
He continued, “Bilateral trade reached, according to our [Brazilian] numbers, US$ 1.3 billion at the end of 2021, up further 24.9% from the previous year.”
Participants among others Diplomats and head of missions were also present on the celebration day.

Expert on World Physiotherapy Day stresses public awareness for early diagnosis

ISLAMABAD, Sep 8 (APP): Expert on World Physiotherapy (PT) Day stressed raising awareness about the contribution of physiotherapists in healthcare and encouraging people to be physically active and ensure good overall health.

Physiotherapist Dr Muhmmad Kashif Khan talking to PTV news channel on Friday highlighted the significance of the World Physical Therapy Day and asked media to educate the people about prevailing joint diseases and their prevention.

He further explained that PT Day was observed globally on September 8th every year in order to raise and emphasized the need for adequate physiotherapy services for persons with disabilities in Pakistan.

“Early diagnosis and proper interventions result in better functioning of the individual ensuring his/ her acceptance in the society”.

Physiotherapy is the healthcare advancement that makes a life worth living after it has been saved by doctors, he said, adding, physiotherapy is an important intervention that prevents and mitigates the adverse effects of prolonged bed rest and mechanical ventilation during critical illness.

Early progressive physiotherapy, with a focus on mobility and walking whilst ventilated, is essential in minimizing functional decline, he added.

Students and physiotherapists must spread awareness in your area about physical therapy and help the person who is dependent to live independently, he urged.

Replying a question, he said physiotherapists provide movement and exercise, physical treatment, training, and counseling to those who have been injured, ill or disabled.

They support patients in managing pain and preventing disease, preserving health for people of all ages, he added.
Physical therapy plays an important role in the medical world that helps people heal, he mentioned.

LDA demolishes 35 illegal constructions

LAHORE, Sep 08 (APP):Lahore Development Authority (LDA) partially demolished 35 illegal properties and constructions, during a grand operation in Wapda Town, PIA Scheme, Johar Town and Wahdat Road, here on Friday.
According to a spokesperson, The action was taken on directions of Commissioner Lahore and D.G. LDA Muhammad Ali Randhawa while Additional D.G. Housing Captain (R) Shah Mir Iqbal supervised the operation.
The LDA teams demolished structures violating approved maps, illegal commercial use, unauthorized alterations/additions and non-payment of commercialization fees led to the sealing and demolishing these properties.

SNGPL removes 267 illegal gas connections

PESHAWAR, Sep 08 (APP):A task force of Sui Northern Gas Pipeline Limited (SNGPL) on Friday conducted raids in different areas of the city and removed 267 illegal gas connections and removed several suspicious domestic meters.
According to an official of SNGPL 144 domestic suspicious meters were removed and 22 gas meters were disconnected due to non-payment, adding that two cases were registered against the illegal consumers in the concerned police stations.
The gas authorities advised people to report illegal connections to 1199 so that uninterrupted gas supply to consumers could be ensured.

Media, civil society urge to join hands for protection against ‘child abuse’

ISLAMABAD, Sep 8 (APP):Social activist Hamid Alvani on Friday urged civil society, media, parents, and teachers to create awareness about child abuse and take measures to safeguard kids from physical and psychological harm.
 Talking to PTV news channel,  President of Ruko awareness drive and a renowned social activist Hamid Alvani said parents and teachers must educate their children and called for appropriate legislative, administrative, social, and educational measures to protect children from such menace.
 He stressed the need for a comprehensive mechanism for coordination among the various major stakeholders, including police, parents, CPWB’s and other relevant federal and provincial agencies.
 The training programmes should be conducted for professionals working with the children, such as teachers, healthcare providers, law-enforcement agencies’ personnel and social workers, to enhance their skills in identifying the signs of abuse, responding sensitively and providing appropriate support, he suggested.
“National and provincial legislatures need to review the existing child protection laws while reforming the existing apparatus,” he mentioned.

Posters appear in IIOJK urging G20 heads to ask Modi to stop Kashmiris’ massacre

ISLAMABAD, Sep 8 (APP):Posters have appeared in Srinagar, urging the G20 heads to ask Modi to stop the slow-motion massacre of people of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), and resolve the Kashmir dispute according to the United Nations (UN) resolutions.
According to Kashmir Media Service (KMS), the posters, displayed by pro-freedom organizations, including Resistance Youth Forum J&K, Jammu and Kashmir Political Resistance Movement, Jammu Kashmir Democratic Movement, Resistance Youth Forum J&K, Jammu Kashmir Youth Movement, Jammu and Kashmir Justice and Peace Initiative and Nawjawanan-e-Hurriyet Jammu Kashmir, urged the World Body to take notice of the violation of Kashmiris’ right to self-determination recognized by the UN Security Council through its resolution passed on January 5, 1949.
The posters appealed to G20 members that they should realize that India’s ulterior motives behind holding the groupings meeting in IIOJK were nothing but to hide its anti-Kashmir agendas and demand the UN resolutions by the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
The posters called upon the World Body to honour its commitments made 74 years ago and said that the Right to Self-Determination Day was a reminder to the global community that it could not shy away from its responsibility of settling the lingering Kashmir dispute in accordance with the UN resolutions and aspirations of the Kashmiri people.
The posters read: “Play a role in the release of all Kashmiri political detainees.”
“India is using this international forum to legalize its brutal repression in IIOJK and paddle falsehoods of normalcy.”
“Jammu and Kashmir have been under Indian military and police siege since August 2019.”
India should stop demographic change in Jammu and Kashmir and ask India to withdraw its all forces from Kashmir and repeal all draconian laws/ stop human rights violations in the territory, it added.
The posters ask G20, “Do you know India is the worst violator of freedoms of expression and opinion and do you believe in human rights and peace, if so, why you, G20 countries, are guests of the worst violator, India.”
The G20 Summit, in which world leaders like US President Joe Biden, UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, and other delegates are participating in the Indian capital city New Delhi from September 8-10.

Man gunned down in Sargodha

SARGODHA, Sep 08 (APP):A man was gunned down by some unidentified outlaws on some unknown reasons here at Khaiki near Uchali link road under the jurisdiction of Jouharabad police station, here on Friday.
Police said that Safder (41) r/o uchaali was busy in his daily work at his shop when all of sudden some unidentified armed persons killed him after opening fire at him.
Further investigation was under way.

Weekly inflation up by 0.96 percent

ISLAMABAD, Sep 8 (APP):The weekly inflation, measured by the Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI), witnessed an increase of 0.96 percent for the combined consumption group during the week ended on September 7, the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) reported on Friday.
The SPI for the week under review in the above-mentioned group was recorded at 279.87 points as compared to 277.21 points during the past week, according to the PBS data.
As compared to the corresponding week of last year, the SPI for the combined consumption group in the week under review witnessed an increase of 26.32 percent.
The weekly SPI with the base year 2015-16 =100 covers 17 urban centers and 51 essential items for all expenditure groups.
The SPI for the lowest consumption group up to Rs 17,732, increased by 0.77 percent and went up to 285.27 points from last week’s 283.10 points.
The SPI for consumption groups from Rs 17,732-22,888, Rs 22,889-29,517, Rs 29,518-44,175 and above Rs 44,175 increased by 0.81 percent, 0.80 percent, 0.87 and 1.06 percent respectively.
During the week, out of 51 items, prices of 32 (62.75%) items increased, 05 (09.80%) items decreased and 14 (27.45%) items remained stable.
The items, which recorded a decrease in their average prices on a week-on-week (WoW) included chicken (3.20%), cooking oil 5 liters (1.03%), vegetable ghee 2.5 kg (0.47%), tea packet (0.43%) and vegetable ghee 1 kg (0.14%).
The items that recorded an increase in their average prices on a week-on-week (wow) basis, included tomatoes (17.00%), pulse masoor (10.87%), sugar (6.73%), garlic (4.66%), gur (3.62%), pulse moong (3.55%), onions (3.43%) and pulse gram (3.25%), non-food items, diesel (6.28%), LPG (5.19%) and petrol (5.12%).
The commodities that witnessed a decrease in price on a year-on-year (yoy) basis, included tomatoes (34.77%), onions (23.44%), and electricity for q1 (21.96%).
On a Year-on-Year (YoY) basis, the commodities which recorded an increase in their average prices included wheat flour (117.71%), gas charges for q1 (108.38%), sugar (107.36%), cigarettes (100.16%), rice basmati broken (90.66%), tea packet (88.41%), chilies powder (86.05%), rice irri-6/9 (84.18%), gur (72.83%), gents sponge chappal (58.05%), gents sandal (53.37%), salt powdered (52.07%), powdered milk (42.45%) and bread (42.33%).

Assistant commissioners, magistrates conduct crackdown against beggars

ISLAMABAD, Sep 8 (APP):Assistant commissioners and magistrates under the supervision of Deputy Commissioner Islamabad Irfan Nawaz Memon have arrested 22 professional beggars from different areas of the city.
The Assistant Commissioner Rural arrested five beggars from Lohi Bhair and two beggars from Humak area. Assistant Commissioner Shalimar arrested 15 beggars from the F-10 area.
The beggars were arrested and transferred to the police station while the minor children were sent to the Edhi Center, an ICT spokesman Dr Abdullah Tabasum said on Friday.
This is not the first time that a crackdown on beggars has been conducted in Islamabad. In recent years, the city has seen a growing number of beggars, many of whom are professional beggars who are not actually in need of help. The latest crackdown is part of the government’s efforts to discourage the growing trend of beggary and make the city a more livable place.
The authorities have also said that they will provide assistance to those who are willing to give up begging and find other means of livelihood

15 criminals arrested

SARGODHA, Sep 08 (APP):Police arrested 15 alleged criminals including four proclaimed offenders and recovered weapons and narcotics from them, here on Friday.
According to a spokesperson,police arrested Faisal, Adil, Abid, Kashif, Aziz, Ali, Imtiaz, Dilawar, Hussain, Umair, Hamza, Amir, Aslam, Sultan and Mohsin and recovered 12 pistols, nine guns, 459 litres liquor and 1.08kg hashish from them.
Cases have been registered against the accused.
