APO’s role in driving inclusive, innovation-led productivity growth eulogized

ISLAMABAD, Sep 8 (APP): Senior Vice President Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) Faad Waheed here on Friday praised the Asian Productivity Organization’s (APO) role in Asia-Pacific’s development while emphasising the need to renew our commitment to inclusive, innovation-led productivity growth.

He said while addressing the closing ceremony of a five-day training program on “Assessor of the Productivity Specialist Certification Program”, and welcomed international delegates and expressed gratitude to APO and the National Productivity Organization (NPO) for addressing this crucial topic.

The National Productivity Organization (NPO), in collaboration with the Asian Productivity Organization (APO), in Tokyo, Japan has organized the training program.

Faad Waheed highlighted the potential of working together with APO to find solutions to long-standing productivity challenges in Pakistan.

The program would help in promoting the cause of producing Certified Productivity Professionals in Pakistan to support and propagate the agenda of creating a productivity improvement culture in Pakistan.

He further said that to meet the current productivity challenges of Pakistan and to achieve sustainable productivity and economic growth, NPO Pakistan is closely working with APO Tokyo.

Program Officer, APO Japan Zafarullah Khan expressed his gratitude to the government of Pakistan for their sincere efforts to continue the Productivity Movement.

He appreciated the efforts of the APO Country Director for his strong leadership and support, and the NPO head for his keen interest.

He also mentioned the APO and NPO team for their efforts for Productivity enhancement in the region.

Zafarullah apprised the participants about the APO’s Journey of success stories and major achievements in the region.

Chief Executive Officer NPO Muhammad Alamgir Chaudhry thanked Senior Vice President ICCI and APO Program officer for attending the program.

He said that three other APO member countries, namely Malaysia, Vietnam, and Mongolia, recently attained accreditation
for their Certification bodies from APO, in alignment with the vision of their respective country leaders, with the assistance of APO, Japan.

The certification body is a strategic initiative which will contribute to productivity initiatives in Pakistan.
NPO is facilitating to complement and strengthen the Ministry’s mandate through its vision “Economically Productive and Globally Competitive Pakistan”.

NPO is solely responsible for Productivity and Quality enhancement in Pakistan.

Recently, NPO Pakistan has attained the status of Certification Body (CB) of the Asian Productivity Organization Accreditation Body (APO-AB) under the scheme of “Certified Productivity Specialists (CPS)”.

As an outcome of this training, competent assessors for APO-PS 101 are equipped with skills, knowledge, and ability while maintaining the highest standards in conducting assessments; CBs’ capability is developed; and networks among assessors in member economies are strengthened.

The training program was attended by 17 overseas participants representing 10 APO member countries, alongside 5 local participants.

GB govt  to introduce basic language learning courses

GILGIT, Sep 08 (APP):The Government of Gilgit-Baltistan has decided to introduce basic language courses in all government primary schools to enhance cultural and linguistic understanding.
Chief Secretary Gilgit Baltistan Muhiudeen Wani said that the courses would focus on basic elements of Shina, Balti and Burushaski, according to a statement issued here on Friday.
He said that Balti would be taught in the Gilgit and Diamer Astore divisions while Shina and Burushaski would be made part of the curriculum in the Baltistan division.
He said existing teaching staff would be trained to execute it from the next session.

PHA starts preparing beds for winter flowers

LAHORE, Sep 08 (APP):The Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) on Friday started to beautify the city as it began  preparing flower beds for winter seedlings.
PHA Director General Muhammad Tahir Watto also came to field to look after
horticulture preparations.
Antirrhinium, Marigold, Flowering Cabbage, Chrysanthemum, Gerenium, Dahlia, Gerbra, Hollyhock, Cosmos, Verbena, Zinnia and other seasonal flowers would be planted on beds.
During his inspection, DG Tahir Watto stressed the importance of maintaining cleanliness and horticulture standards, instructing beat officers to be vigilant in their duties.
His surprise inspection covered key areas such as Gulberg Main Market, Liberty Roundabout, Hussain Chowk, Mini Market, Zahoor Elahi Road, Jail Road and Ferozepur Road.
Watto emphasized the need for aesthetic and functional improvements, urging immediate attention to neglected parts of the city.
In his efforts to enhance the city’s visual appeal, Watto scrutinized various localities, focusing on maintenance
of flower beds and green belts and called for comprehensive improvements.
Wattoo also closely monitored progress of horticultural preparations, emphasizing the importance of preserving the city’s green ambiance and visual allure.
Additionally, he encouraged officers to engage with residents who utilize parks for recreational activities, seeking their valuable input on their needs and preferences.
The director general reiterated that the PHA’s top priorities included horticultural work and providing civic facilities in parks. Their mission was to transform the provincial capital into a city of flowers and gardens, a vision they were diligently working towards.

PHP awareness campaign continues

FAISALABAD, Sep 08 (APP):The mobile education unit of the Punjab Highway Patrol Police (PHP) organized
hundreds of road safety shows and awareness seminars during the last two years.
SSP Mirza Anjum Kamal said on Friday that the aim of these activities was to sensitize
people about traffic laws.
He said that road safety shows and seminars were held at 660 educational institutes,
440 transport stands, 440 commercial markets, 300 villages, 177 hospitals and health centers,
453 public places, 315 petrol pumps, 370 goods transports companies, 230 union councils,
250 banks and 634 other places.
The education unit also distributed brochures and pamphlets among 87,379 peoples
besides holding 32 workshops and training sessions.

21 held in police crackdown

Dera Ismail Khan, Sep 08 (APP):Dera police, during the ongoing crackdown against drug dealers on Friday, arrested twenty-one drug peddlers and recovered huge quantities of narcotics from the possession in the last 24 hours from different areas of the city.
According to the police spokesman, under the direction of Regional Police Officer (RPO) Dera Nasir Mehmood Satti and under the leadership of District Police Officer (DPO) Dera Abdul Rauf Babar, various police teams from different police stations conducted raids against the narcotics and arrested a number of drug peddlers.
According to the details, teams of Yarik police station seized 260 grams of hashish from the possession of accused Ghulam Rabbani, son of Muhammad Bakhsh, a resident of Yarik; accused Haroon, son of Mehboob, a resident of Wanda Jani, arrested with 765 grams of hashish in his possession. Drug peddler Irfan Allah, son of Allah Jan, a resident of Wanda Abu, was arrested after recovering 2500 grams of hashish and 800 grams of ice from his possession.
Similarly, SHO police station Choudwan Amanullah Khan recovered 585 grams of hashish and 100 grams of ice from the possession of notorious drug dealer Mamreez, son of Dad, a resident of Garah Abdullah, and arrested the accused as per the rules.
SHO Gomal University police station, Malik Sajid, during the ongoing operations, raided various places in the area. While action was taken against the drug dealers, three accused, Muhammad Aqib, son of Muhammad Younis, a resident of Jhok Qureshi, Mazhar Hussain, son of Atta Muhammad, a resident of Mankira, Bhakkar, and Rehmatullah, son of Shah Alam, residents of Kulachiwala were arrested, and a total of 376 grams of ice, 522 grams of hashish, 6000 ml of liquor, and a 12 bore gun with ammunition were recovered from the possession of the arrested persons.
SHO Paharpur Aftab Alam Baloch, while taking action against the drug dealers arrested, Mahmood Ahmad, son of Tawan Ali, a resident of Paharpur, and recovered 320 grams of ice and 250 grams of hashish from his possession. During another action Najibullah, son of Khan Zaman, a resident of Awan Nala was arrested and police recovered 165 grams of hashish, and 289 grams of ice from him. Rashid, son of Hameedullah, was arrested with 150 grams of hashish and 274 grams of ice while Shakeel, son of Amir Khan, was arrested, after recovering 975 grams of hashish from his possession.
SHO Shaheed Nawab Khan police station, Khanzada Khan, while carrying out operations against the drug dealers, recovered 600 grams of hashish and 415 grams of ice from the possession of Sharifullah, son of Barkatullah, a resident of Wanda Umar Khan, and arrested the accused as per the rules. While accused, Noman, son of Jameel, a resident of Paniala, was arrested, with 250 grams of Heroin and 320 grams of ice in his possession.
During the patrolling, SHO Cantt Gul Sher Khan, recovered 1800 grams of hashish from the possession of the accused Khalid, son of Tahir Hussain, a resident of Dinpur, and arrested the accused as per the rules. The drug peddler Mulazim Hussain, son of Haji Bahadar, was arrested near Dhapan wala and recovered 720 grams of heroin from him.
Similarly, SHO City Khabab Wali Baloch, while carrying out successful operations against drug dealers, recovered 307 grams of ice from Fakhrul Amin, son of Muhammad, a resident of Faqirabad, and 99 grams of heroin from Mohammad Asif, son of Muhammad Hanif, a resident of Garhi Sadozai, and arrested the accused as per the rules. During another action city police arrested two more drug peddlers and recovered 377 grams of ice and 160 grams of hashish from the possession of the accused.
Dera Town police arrested two drug dealers and recovered 266 grams of ice and 361 grams of hashish from the possession of the accused.
Police registered separate cases in different police stations against the arrested persons, and further investigations were under progress to ascertain links to nail drug peddlers.

Int Literacy Day observed in northern Sindh

SUKKUR, Sep 08 (APP):Walks, seminars, and other events were held in different towns in northern Sindh on Friday in connection with International Literacy Day.
In Sukkur, a large number of students, teachers, and NGO activists took part in a walk from Minara Road to the local press club.
The participants were carrying placards inscribed with slogans about the importance of literacy. They vowed to join in a struggle for the promotion of education in the country.
The district education officer, district officer primary education, and other officers of the education department spoke to the walk participants.
Teachers and students of the New London Cambridge School held a rally to mark the day.
Principal Ms. Rubina Kayani shed light on the importance of literacy and observed that teachers, local administration, students, and their parents were all responsible for a decline in the standard of education in Sindh.
Rubina Kayani urged policymakers to incorporate students’ suggestions into the education policy, adding that government departments, NGOs, and political and social organizations should join hands against illiteracy and work jointly to promote education.
Many students expressed their views on the current state of education.
In Khairpur, an awareness walk was held in the city to mark the day. The main event was organized by the Inter Global Human Development Society (IGHDS) in collaboration with the district education office. IGHDS activists, members of civil society, students, and teachers held a walk and converged on the local press club.
IGHDS Chief Coordination Officer, Arif Nawaz Soomro, and others stressed the need for community participation in a vigorous campaign for the promotion of education and enhancing the literacy rate in the country.

Kot Addu Police reunite daughter with parents

MUZAFFARGARH, Sep 08 (APP):Police Kot Adu reunited the mother with the daughter who fled allegedly after being fed up with the uncle’s oppression.
The 12-year-old Minahil reached Kot Addu by train from Islamabad about two months ago, police said.
In-charge Gender Police Station City Kot Addu Sub-Inspector Saeeda Khaliq contacted the Islamabad Police to find the parents of Manahal but in vain.
As a result, the girl was sent to Shelter Home, where Manahel refused to stay but with Sub-Inspector Saeedah Khaliq herself. She kept the girl her home for a month upon latter’s insistence with continued search for the parents.
Finally her mother was traced through social media to which the girl handed over safely.
Minahel’s mother thanked Gender Crime Sub-Inspector  Saeeda Khaliq and the city police for offering a lot of prayers.
On this occasion, Gender Crime Sub-Inspector Saeeda Khaliq said that the purpose of the Gender Crime Department is to protect children.

6 dengue cases reported in Sargodha district

SARGODHA, Sep 08 (APP):A total of six dengue cases have been reported across Sargodha district this season so far.
This was stated in a district anti-dengue committee meeting held here on Friday with Additional Deputy Commissioner Finance and Planning Shoaib Nisowana in the chair.
Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Health Authority Dr Asad Aslam and other officers of departments concerned participated in the meeting.
The meeting was told that a total of 54 cases were registered over violation of the standard operating procedures (SOPs) devised for dengue control.
CEO Health Authority Dr Asad told the meeting that anti-dengue activities were going on effectively in 167 union councils of the district. He said that indoor and outdoor dengue surveillance was going on uninterrupted and performance of anti-dengue teams was also being closely monitored.
The ADC said that success could not be achieved in the anti-dengue drive without public cooperation; therefore, citizens should play their role in cleanliness of possible breeding places of dengue larvae.
He urged officials of the Health Department to make full efforts and use all resources to eradicate dengue larvae, as any kind of negligence in that regard would not be tolerated.

Police decide to enhance security measures in capital

ISLAMABAD, Sep 8 (APP):Islamabad police have decided to enhance security in the federal capital and establish special checkposts in various of the city.
According to a police spokesman, it has been decided to erect special checkposts in various areas of Islamabad and make a concerted effort to maintain more tranquility for the safety of citizens.
Around 6,272 vehicles, 17,575 motorcycles, and 13,426 individuals were thoroughly checked at these check posts during the last month (August), he added.
Moreover, 1,248 individuals were shifted to police stations for verification purposes, while 238 vehicles and 4,235 motorcycles were impounded.
During the operation, one vehicle was also shifted to the Anti Vehicle Theft Cell (AVLU).
Islamabad Capital City Police Officer (ICCPO) Dr Akbar Nasir Khan reaffirmed that Islamabad Capital Police would not tolerate any elements that disrupt peace and security, and all officials had been instructed to ensure the highest level of vigilance.
He stressed the importance of utilizing all available resources to further enhance the effectiveness of citywide patrolling and optimize the deployment of police officials for checkpoint duty.
Citizens had been also urged to fully cooperate with law enforcement personnel, keep their identification documents handy while traveling, and report any suspicious activity or individual to their respective police stations or the emergency helpline “Pucar-15.”
ICCPO Dr Akbar Nasir Khan said, “The force is committed to taking all necessary actions and protecting the lives, properties, and private as well as government assets within the capital.”

Wani remembers Shaikh Tajamul-ul-Islam on his death anniversary

ISLAMABAD, Sep 08 (APP):Chairman Kashmir Institute of International Relations (KIIR), Altaf Hussain Wani has paid rich tributes to veteran Kashmiri intellectual and former KMS Director Shaikh Tajamul-ul-Islam on his second death anniversary.
In a statement issued here on Friday, the KIIR chief while lauding his peerless contribution to the Kashmir cause, said that Islam was one of the pioneers of the freedom struggle who rendered his service for the noble cause while working on political, diplomatic and journalistic fronts.
 Wani said, “Sheikh Sahib was a genuine intellectual, thinker and writer par excellence who had significantly contributed to the Kashmir cause”.
He said that Sheikh Sahib has left behind a rich legacy that will continue to inspire the coming generations. His demise, he said, had left a huge void that could not be filled easily.
