Int’l workshop on “Advances in Nuclear Medicine and its Applications” from Sept 19

ISLAMABAD, Sep 4 (APP):OIC Ministerial Sanding Committee on Scientific and Technological Cooperation (COMSTECH) in collaboration with Pakistan Nuclear Society (PNS) and Pakistan Society of Nuclear Medicine (PSNM) has planned to arrange an International Workshop on “Advances in Nuclear Medicine and its Applications” from September 19-20.
According to the COMSTECH, the international and local experts of nuclear medicine and its applications will present lectures during the workshop while local faculty and researchers will share their research findings as contributed talks.
The theme of the workshop would be on the changing horizons of Nuclear Medicine, incorporating the translation of basic laboratory research to clinical practice, establishment of clinical and technical standards, and the translation of molecular technological advances in diagnostic and therapeutic nuclear medicine.
Nuclear technology has transformed health sector by advancements in diagnostic and therapeutic modalities for non-communicable pathologies.
Hybrid imaging, especially PET-CT has altogether changed the diagnostic horizon, especially in the management of cancer patients. However, not only Pakistan but most of the OIC countries are still lagging behind in hybrid imaging facilities, especially PET-CT imaging.
The indispensable role of PET-CT and hybrid imaging needs to be highlighted for the benefit of various stakeholders and patients.
Furthermore, the emergent role of theranostics and advanced radionuclide therapies using alpha and beta emitters has given new insights in cancer treatment paradigms. These rapid advancements in the field of nuclear medicine warrant continual education of referring physicians, oncologists, nuclear physicians, medical physicists and technologists from OIC countries.
Clinical practitioners, Oncologists, Researchers and students in nuclear medicine and Medical technologists will attend the event which will be in hybrid mode.
The organizing committee of the event include Adviser COMSTECH, Prof. Dr. S. Khurshid Hasanain, President, Pakistan Nuclear Society (PNS), Dr. M. Tahir Khaleeq, Vice President, Pakistan Nuclear Society (PNS),  Waqar Ahmad Butt and Senior Director HR and Administration COMSTECH, Aftab Hussain Zaidi, General Manager Hospitality COMSTECH,  Naveed Aamer, Senior Manager IT COMSTECH,  Usman Quddus Malik, Programme Officer COMSTECH, Umer Ali and Media Coordinator COMSTECH, Shabbir Hussain.
While the technical committee included Dr. Shazia Fatima, Director, Karachi Institute of Radiotherapy and Nuclear Medicine (KIRAN), Karachi. President Pakistan Society of Nuclear Medicine (PSNM), Dr. Muhammad Adnan Saeed, Head Nuclear Medicine Nuclear Medicine, Oncology and Radiotherapy Institute (NORI), Islamabad, Dr. Muhammad Babar Imran, Director Punjab Institute of Nuclear Medicine (PINUM) Faisalabad and Dr Arzoo Fatima, Head Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging, Institute of Nuclear Medicine and Oncology Lahore (INMOL) Lahore.

IHC removes objections on Pervaiz Elahi’s petition

ISLAMABAD, Sep 04 (APP): The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Monday removed the objections of Registrar Office on a petition filed by former Punjab chief minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi against his arrest under the Maintenance Public Order (MPO) and ordered to fix the case for hearing.

Justice Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri heard the case filed by Pervaiz Elahi.

The petitioner’s lawyer Sardar Abdul Razzaq Advocate said that his client had been arrested only to frustrate the orders of Lahore High Court (LHC). The LHC had given clear orders that his client would not be arrested even under the MPO again.

The court said that so far it was removing the Registrar Office’s objections and directed it to fix the case again for hearing.

Caretaker minister drives forward ‘Private Hajj Scheme’ with strategic meeting

ISLAMABAD, Sep 4 (APP):Caretaker Minister for Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony, Aneeq Ahmed, spearheaded a pivotal gathering on Monday to discuss the Private Hajj Scheme’s future.
The meeting brought together key players from diverse Hajj groups and representatives of the Hajj Organizers Association of Pakistan (HOAP), with the joint secretary of Hajj delivering a comprehensive briefing.
The focal points of the discussion included Saudi companies’ facilities, the sponsorship Hajj scheme, service visas, and more.
Minister Aneeq emphasized the need for private Hajj companies to adhere to Saudi directives regarding the allocation of Hajj quotas adding that Saudi authorities had advised reducing the number of Hajj companies, recommending a range of 2,000 to 3,000 pilgrims per company.
He issued instructions for private Hajj companies to submit sponsorship fee details well in advance of the deadline and called for enhanced monitoring and complaint handling to elevate the overall Hajj pilgrimage experience.
The minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to addressing concerns and reservations of Hajj companies during the upcoming Kingdom’s visit and pledged to mobilize all available resources to ensure a seamless experience for pilgrims.
He commended the services offered by most private Hajj group operators and proposed measures to further strengthen trade relations.
The briefing disclosed that a total of 901 Hajj companies were registered under the Private Hajj Scheme, but corrective action was deemed necessary as 102 companies failed to upload the required data on the Ministry’s portal.
In line with new Saudi directives, the HOAP committed to presenting their recommendations on the cluster system to the ministry within 24 hours, reinforcing their dedication to facilitating a smoother Hajj experience.

NCP items worth milliond seized

DERA ISMAIL KHAN, Sep 04 (APP):The police on Monday claimed to have seized Non Custom Paid (NCP) items worth million of rupees here at a check post in the limits of Daraban police station.
According to Police spokesman, a police team supervised by SDPO Daraban Malik Anees ul Hasan along with SHO Abdul Ghaffar foiled a bid of smuggling NCP items worth millions of rupees.
The police team  stopped three Containers bearing registration numbers (K-0004, TLR-604, Z-2136) and a Truck bearing registration number (FA-2044) for checking.
NCP items worth million of rupees including crockery, clothes and others were recovered.
Later, the police handed over all the four vehicles loaded with NCP items to the customs authorities.

PSX witnesses bullish trend, gains 394 points

ISLAMABAD, Sep 4 (APP):The 100-index of the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) witnessed bullish trend on Monday and gained 394.77 points, showing growth of 0.87 percent, closing at 45,707.43 points against 45,312.66 points the previous trading day.

A total of 139,251,269 shares were traded during the day as compared to 161,824,998 shares, whereas the trading value of shares was recorded at Rs 4.476 billion against Rs 4.464 billion on the last trading day.

As many as 313 companies transacted their shares in the stock market; 187 of them recorded gains and 105 sustained losses, whereas the share price of 21 companies remained unchanged.

The three top-trading companies were Al-Shaheer Corp with 11,268,667 shares at Rs 10.48 per share; WorldCall Telecom with 11,211,536 shares at Rs 1.17 per share and Dewan Motors with 8,848,489 shares at Rs 16.41 per share.

Cotton Palm witnessed a maximum increase of Rs 31.31 per share price, closing at Rs 1,298.30, whereas the runner-up was Indus Al-Abbas Sugar with Rs 23.98 rise in its per share price to Rs 504.99.

Mehmood Textile witnessed a maximum decrease of Rs 47.55 per share closing at Rs 586.45; followed by Archroma Pak with Rs 27.58 decline to close at Rs 454.42.
