Rescue 1122 provides services to over 3 lac flood affectees during recent flood

MULTAN, Sep 04 (APP):Secretary Emergency Services Department (ESD), Dr. Rizwan Naseer, said that Rescue 1122 conducted historic Flood Rescue operation and rescued 310383 flood affectees during recent flood in Sutlej river.
As many as 1632 Rescuers and 414 Rescue Boats along with boat operators participated.
Likewise, 17,874 animals were shifted from inundated catchment areas of Sutlej River to safe areas from 6th July to 3rd September, 2023. In the second onset of high flood in the River Sutlej on August 16, 2023, no significant deaths were reported due to timely evacuation in coordination with the District Government and restricting unnecessary movement in inundated areas. Only six people died due to their own negligence and careless attitude.
Secretary ESD appreciated Rescuers who worked day & night risking their lives to rescue flood affectees from inundated areas.
He expressed these views while presiding over a review meeting on flood and rescue operations in flood-prone districts held at Emergency Services Headquarters on Monday.
 District Emergency Officers of Flood prone districts like Kasur, Okara, PakPattan, Bahawalnagar, Vehari, Lodhran, Bahawalpur and Multan participated through video link and Provincial Monitoring Officer, Deputy Director Operations along with all Head of Wings of the Rescue Headquarters and Academy participated.
Provincial Monitoring Officer (PMO) briefed that the highest number of 121351 transportation, 43,651 evacuations with the transfer of 7,048 animals from flooded areas to safe locations were carried out in Kasur.
In Pakpattan, 27276 people were evacuated, 3,716 were transported, 1,007 animals were relocated to safe places, 16186 individuals evacuated, 7060 people were transported and 798 animals were shifted to safe places in Okara. Likewise, 14690 people were evacuated, 4,920 were transported to safer places and 2109 cattle were safely rescued from inundated to secure vicinity in district Vehari. In the remaining districts, 30704 people evacuated, 22955 were transported and 6912 animals were shifted to safer places from flood-prone areas.

MULTAN, Sep 04 (APP):In a powerful display of unity and harmony, the Divisional Interfaith Harmony Conference in Multan brought together scholars from all sects and representatives of civil society, here on Monday.
 The resounding message was peace, religious tolerance, and the protection of minority’s rights.
The conference condemned the Jaranwala tragedy as an example of extremism and a departure from Islamic teachings, emphasizing that all minorities were safe and enjoy complete rights in the country.
 Commissioner Aamir Khattak and RPO Captain (Rtd). Suhail Chaudhry led the charge in this unified front, with the participation of district officials and police officers from across the division.
It was emphasized that the state, along with religious leadership, is committed to safeguarding the rights of the Christian community. The stern actions taken against the accused in the Jaranwala tragedy demonstrate the government’s commitment to ending religious extremism and promoting peace.
This conference not only condemned the incident but also called upon scholars to play an active role in promoting Islamic teachings to prevent further incidents of extremism. Multan’s rich history of unity and brotherhood, once again shone through, the conference’s pledge to perform possible role in promotion of peace.
The Punjab government’s efforts to unite religious leaders on a common platform for the greater good was also praised.

President lauds PM Kakar’s statement on general elections

ISLAMABAD, Sep 04 (APP): President Dr Arif Alvi on Monday appreciated the statement made by Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar that his government would abide by the Supreme Court’s judgement on the matter of general elections.

The president said this in a meeting with Caretaker Federal Minister for Law and Justice, Ahmed Irfan Aslam, who called on him here.

The meeting discussed many issues related to the holding of general elections in the country.

President Alvi emphasized the need for upholding the supremacy of the Constitution, adding that decisions should be taken in accordance with the spirit of the Constitution.

Police arrest 13 drug peddlers on recovery of 21 kg charras

RAWALPINDI, Sep 04 (APP): Rawalpindi police in an action against suspected drug peddlers conducted raids in different areas and rounded up 13 accused on recovery of over 21 kg charras, two riffles and other items.

According to a police spokesman, Taxila police netted Adil with 1500 grams of charras, and Almas for having 1650 grams of charras, two rifles and ammunition.

Rattaamral police held Zahid for having 3765 grams of charras, Tamoor for possessing 2400 grams of charras, Arham for carrying 1600 grams of charras and Jahanzaib for recovery of 1300 grams of charras.

Saddar Wah Police rounded up Shaheer with 1100 grams of charras and Shafique with 1650 grams of charras.

The spokesman informed that Gungmandi, R.A.Bazar, Naseerabad, Race Course and Chontra police arrested Junaid, Asad, Khalid Mehmood, Gulfraz and Ramazan and recovered 1400, 1280, 1250, 1100 and 1250 grams of charras respectively.

Separate cases have been registered against all accused while further investigations are underway.

City Police Officer, Rawalpindi had directed the police officers to accelerate ongoing operations against drug peddlers, bootleggers and other lawbreakers, he added.

Man assisted by wife loots in-laws’ house

PESHAWAR, Sep 04 (APP):A man, with the assistance of his wife, committed a burglary worth hundreds of thousands of rupees at the house of his mother-in-law in Hayatabad area here.
SP Cantt Division, Waqas Rafiq said the thief and his wife have been arrested and all the stolen valuables have been recovered from them. The thief’s wife and his mother-in-law belong to Afghanistan, he said.
SSP Cantt Division said a report was lodged by the wife of Usman about a burglary at her house, following which police started an investigation into the incident.
He said footage of the area CCTV cameras were collected and statements of the affected family members were also recorded.
Meanwhile, he said the police sorted out that the son-in-law of the affected woman and her daughter were involved in the theft. Police arrested the thief named Shoaib and his wife who later confessed to committing burglary. The accused Shoaib was shifted to Hayatabad police station for interrogation while the woman was shifted to the women’s police station for investigation.
The SSP said the accused was jobless and he along with his wife planned to loot the house of his in-laws. A cash amount of Rs 1.2 million, 40000 Afghani currency, 4200 American dollars and gold ornaments were recovered from them. A case was registered against them at Hayatabad police station.

Minister performs ground-breaking of ‘Isolation Hospital’ at Lahore airport

LAHORE, Sep 04 (APP):Caretaker Federal Minister for National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination Dr Nadeem Jan said on Monday that integrated strategy had been formulated to protect people from diseases and epidemics.
He was addressing the ground-breaking ceremony of the ‘Isolation Hospital’ at Allama Iqbal International Airport, Lahore.
The minister said that the government was determined to strengthen the border health services to deal with any sudden outbreaks as epidemics had no borders limits, adding that surveillance mechanism at international airports of the country were being improved to tackle the situation.
Dr Nadeem Jan said that the government was ensuring implementation of international health recommendations.
He announced that a conference on Global Health Security Agenda was going to be held in Pakistan and this was for the first time that this kind of international conference was being arranged in Pakistan in which public health experts from all over the world would participate. He recalled that it was a matter of prestige that Pakistan would host such international conference.
He was of the view that by organising such international conference in Pakistan, it would pave the way for improvement, modernisation and development in the health sector of the country.
Meanwhile, a delegation of pharma exporters called on Heath Minister Dr Nadeem Jan in Lahore and discussed various issues related to pharma sector. The meeting decided to create a comprehensive strategy to increase exports of pharma drugs as Pakistan’s pharma sector had lot of potential.
The health minister emphasised the need for quality of medicines as per international standards in order to increase exports in pharma sector. The sector had been facilitated by DRAP (Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan) in drug registration process to increase its exports to $1 billion, he added.
Nadeem Jan said that he was taking measures to improve the performance of DRAP, adding that various reforms were being introduced in the department in order to increase the pharma exports.
An In-line registration system were introduced in DRAP for the facilitation for pharma companies through which regulatory approval could be achieved in shortest time.

Hot, humid weather with isolated falls, thunderstorms likely in KP

PESHAWAR, Sep 04 (APP):The Provincial Meteorological Center Peshawar on Monday predicted that mainly hot and humid weather is expected over most districts of the province.
However, it said that isolated thunderstorm-rain with gusty winds is likely to occur over Chitral, Upper & Lower Dir, Bajaur, Malakand, Swat, Shangla, Buner, Battagram, Kohistan, Torghar, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Mardan, Swabi, Charsadda, Nowshera, Peshawar, Khyber, Kohat, Hangu, Kurram, Bannu and North Waziristan districts.
 During the last 24 hours hot and humid weather prevailed in most districts of the province. However, rain-thunderstorms occurred in Swat and Khyber districts. Rain recorded (in mm): Malam Jabba 04, Tirah Khyber 02.
The maximum and minimum temperatures recorded in centigrade at different stations of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were Peshawar City 37/25, Chitral 34/17, Timergara 33/23, Dir 32/16, Mirkhani 38/18, Kalam 27/09, Drosh 36/22, Saidu Sharif 34/18, Pattan 37/22, Malam Jabba 25/13, Takht Bhai 36/24, Kakul 31/17, Balakot 34/19, Parachinar 28/14, Bannu 39/25, Cherat 33/19, D.I. Khan 39/28.
The highest temperature recorded in the province was 39°c each in Bannu and Dera Ismail Khan.

15 ‘criminals’ arrested

SARGODHA, Sep 04 (APP):Police arrested 15 alleged criminals including four proclaimed offenders on Monday and recovered illegal weapons and narcotics from them.
Those arrested were identified as Faisal, Adil, Abid, Kashif, Aziz, Ali, Imtiaz, Dilawar, Hussain, Umair, Hamza, Amir, Aslam, Sultan and Mohsin. The police recovered 12 pistols, nine guns, 459-litre liquor and 1.08-kg hashish from them.
Cases have been registered against the accused.

KP Chief Minister, US Consul General discuss collaboration for regional development

PESHAWAR, Sep 04 (APP): Caretaker Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Muhammad Azam Khan, held a meeting on Monday with the newly appointed US Consul General, Shante Moore, in Peshawar.

During the meeting, they discussed mutual interests and matters related to cooperation and collaboration between the provincial government and United States’ development agencies in various sectors.

Muhammad Azam Khan stated that the KP provincial government viewed cooperation with the US government and agencies in different sectors as of great importance.

He emphasized that the US government would continue to strengthen cooperation with the province.

The chief minister stressed the need for increased cooperation with friendly nations and donor agencies in the tribal areas, which had lagged behind in development for decades.

He also highlighted the special need to focus on building basic infrastructure in these war-torn regions and placed particular emphasis on road infrastructure development.

He further noted that improving the police infrastructure in the merged districts was essential to ensure peace and security.

The promotion of girls’ education was among the provincial government’s top priorities, the chief minister said.

He expressed the willingness of the KP provincial government to welcome American cooperation in these sectors and provide any necessary assistance.

Shante Moore, assured that the US government would continue to work closely with the provincial government and the public to carry on the work of public welfare.

He also mentioned that the US government was keen on preserving the province’s ancient historical buildings and cultural heritage.

AC launch crackdown on price hiking, encroachment, and professional beggars in Islamabad

ISLAMABAD, Sep 4 (APP):The Assistant Commissioners of Islamabad have launched a crackdown against price gouging, encroachment, professional beggars and other societal issues in their respective areas.

In a series of operations, they have fined shopkeepers for overcharging, sealed two shops, arrested one person and eight professional beggars, and taken action against illegal clinics and shisha cafes, The ICT spokesman Abdullah Tabasum said on Monday.

The crackdown was launched on the directions of Deputy Commissioner Islamabad Irfan Nawaz Memon.

The Assistant Commissioners conducted inspections at 105 places and imposed fines of Rs. 10,000 on shopkeepers who were found overcharging, while two shops were also sealed.

Moreover, one person was arrested for selling prohibited polythene bags and eight professional beggars were also arrested. The action was also taken against illegal clinics and shisha cafes.

In addition, the Assistant Commissioners also conducted an operation against encroachments, in which eight people were detained for violating the law and a shop was sealed.

The crackdown is part of the Deputy Commissioner’s efforts to ensure law and order in Islamabad. He has directed the Assistant Commissioners to continue the operations daily, he added.

The crackdown has been welcomed by the people of Islamabad. They hoped that it would help to control price rises, encroachment, and begging in the city.
