Customs foil smuggling bid of foreign brand fabric

KARACHI, Sep 12 (APP):Pakistan Customs on Tuesday claimed to have foiled a smuggling bid for a huge quantity of foreign-brand cloth worth millions.
According to a spokesman for Customs, the Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) of the Collectorate of Customs Enforcement, Karachi, on a tip-off intercepted a trailer at the Mochko check post and during its checking recovered a polyester fabric.
Upon inquiring about the documents of the cloth, the driver showed irrelevant documents. The customs staff seized the cloth weighing 7700 kg and worth Rs. 21.5 million, along with the trailer worth Rs. 15 million. A case had been registered under the Customs Act, and further investigations were underway.

Youth needs to focus on entrepreneurship: AIOU VC

ISLAMABAD, Sep 12 (APP): Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) Vice-Chancellor (VC), Prof. Dr. Nasir Mahmood on Tuesday emphasized the need to provide maximum opportunities to youth in entrepreneurship for the development and economic stability of the country.

Addressing the prizes and certificates distribution ceremony of best business ideas in entrepreneurship activities, he said this era belonged to skills and education as countries are making amazing products through recycling used plastics to support their economy.

The VC said, “Our young generation is very skilled, all they need is a guideline to make the best use of their potential.”

Office of Research, Innovation and Commercialization (ORIC) Executive Director, Dr Latif Gondal said we received 100 applications for the Big Ideas 2021 competition, and 18 students were shortlisted. He said prizes were given to the five best ideas. ORIC Additional Director, Dr Saima also addressed the ceremony.

AIOU VC, Prof Dr Nasir Mahmood presented the prizes and certificates to the students. Deans, professors, faculty members, and a large number of students attended the ceremony.

Crackdown on sugar hoarders in Mansehra, thousands of sugar bag seized

MANSEHRA, Sep 12 (APP):Following the directives of the Deputy Commissioner Mansehra, Assistant Food Controller Shaukat Sultan Tuesday has launched a significant operation against sugar hoarders in the region.
This move comes as part of a broader effort to curb hoarding and ensure the fair distribution of essential commodities.
According to details, a huge quantity of sugar has been uncovered in various warehouses, where thousands of bags of sugar have been confiscated in a recent operation centered around the Chinar Road area of Mansehra. This operation has resulted in the sealing of four large warehouses implicated in the alleged hoarding activities.
The hoarders had concealed thousands of tons of sugar within their warehouses, contributing to potential supply shortages and price inflation in the market. In response to this alarming situation, Assistant Food Controller Shaukat Sultan has taken measures to address the issue.

Parliamentarians asked to submit asset statements by Dec end

ISLAMABAD, Sep 12 (APP): The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has asked all members of parliament and provincial assemblies to submit their statements of assets and liabilities including those of their spouses and dependents by December 31.

According to ECP, all parliamentarians have to submit their yearly statements of assets and liabilities including similar details of their spouses and dependent children as on the preceding June 30 on Form B for the financial year 2022-2023.

The Commission, on the first day of January each year will publish names of members, who fail to submit the requisite statement of assets and liabilities within the period specified under sub-section (1).

The commission will on January 16 by an order suspend the membership of a member of an Assembly or Senate, who fails to submit the statement of assets and liabilities and such Member shall cease to function till he files the statement of assets and liabilities.

The ECP further said that any member submitting a fake statement of assets and liabilities under this section in material particulars may, within 120 days from the date of submission of the statement, be proceeded against for committing the offense of corrupt practice.

The ECP said that the prescribed form, along with instructions and guidelines prepared in this regard, can be obtained free of cost from the ECP Secretariat, Islamabad, offices of provincial election commissioners in each province, Senate Secretariat, National Assembly, and secretariats of provincial assemblies. Form B can also be downloaded from the ECP’s website www.ecp.gov.pk.

65 drug peddlers apprehended,  over 41kg narcotics recovered

Dera Ismail Khan, Sep 12 (APP):During a successful seven-day anti-drugs campaign focused on the use of ice across the district, Dera police arrested 65 drug peddlers and recovered over 41 kilograms of narcotics from their possession within the limits of various police stations in Dera Ismail Khan district, said a police spokesman on Tuesday.
Under the special direction of Regional Police Officer (RPO) Nasir Mehmood Satti and the District Police Officer Dera, Abdul Rauf Babar, Dera police arrested 65 drug peddlers during the anti-drug campaign and recovered a huge quantity of narcotics and liquor during the various operations conducted by the various teams of different police stations in the whole district.
The police recovered over 22 kg of hashish, 12.7 kg of ice, 4.6 kg of heroin, 1.8 kg of opium, and 6 bottles of liquor from the possession of the arrested persons.
Police registered at least 64 cases in different police stations against the arrested drug peddlers, and further investigations were in progress to ascertain links to nail drug peddlers.
While talking to APP, Regional Police Officer (RPO) Dera Ismail Khan Nasir Mehmood Satti said that strict action would be taken against those involved in narcotics use and sale in educational institutions, hostels, and public places.
A special campaign was launched against the manufacturers, smugglers, sellers, and users of drugs in the district, RPO said.
District Police Officer Dera Abdul Rauf Babar Qaisrani said that the crackdown on the trade and use of drugs would continue, and the drug dealers would not be allowed to operate freely.
The police officials sought cooperation from the people in their effort to eradicate the drug menace from society; they urged them to inform the police about those who were involved in drug peddling in their villages and localities so that their network could be smashed.

President SCCI Abdul Ghafoor Malik, President Old Boys Association Government Pilot Secondary School Sialkot Junaid Aftab, Principal of Government Murray College Dr Nawaz, Principal of Government Jinnah Islamia College, Prof. Mujahid Bukhari, Principal of Government Commerce College Prof. Khalil Toor, Teachers and Students attended the ceremony.
On this occasion, President SCCI Abdul Ghafoor Malik while addressing the students appreciated the role of Old Boys Association and assured them of his full support.
In the event, shields were also presented to the students who secured first, second and third position in the board in classes 9th and 10th. Teachers were also given shields in recognition of their honour and their services.

994 bags of sugar, ghee, flour seized

FAISALABAD, Sep 12 (APP):The district administration during a crackdown against hoarders seized 994 bags of sugar, ghee and flour here on Tuesday.
A team headed by Assistant Commissioner Saddar Fazal Abbas in three different raids recovered 394 bags of sugar, 200 cartons of ghee and sealed three warehouses besides arresting three hoarders.
Meanwhile, Chief Officer Municipal Committee Khurrianwala Imtiaz Ali Randhawa during raids seized 400 bags of sugar and flour, sealed godown and registered a case against the owner.
