KP Governor, Iranian Consul discuss promotion of bilateral, trade ties

PESHAWAR, Sep 12 (APP): Consul-General of Iran Ali Banafshekhah on Tuesday called on Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Haji Ghulam Ali at the Governor House, and discussed further strengthening of bilateral and trade relations between both the neighbouring countries.

Governor Haji Ghulam Ali congratulated Ali Banafshekhah on assuming the responsibilities of the Consul General of Iran on a permanent basis, saying Iran was a brotherly neighbouring Islamic country.

He said the people of both countries were tied in the bonds of love and respect for each other.
He stressed need for the exchange of delegations of trade, journalists, youth and skilled women, which would not only further cement the bilateral relations but also promote the soft image of two countries.

He also emphasized that small and large scale commercial activities between Pakistan and Iran should be promoted and said that joint venture in trade sectors between Pakistan, Iran, Afghanistan and Turkey would be a positive initiative.

The Iranian Consul General welcomed the Governor’s proposals for the exchange of delegations in various fields, including the promotion of trade activities, said Iran was willing to have bilateral cooperation in all areas, including trade in Pakistan including Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

He said that the Pak-Iran Gas Line project was a very important project for both countries, as its completion would start the era of prosperity in the region.

He said that Pakistan and Iran had ancient cultural and friendly relations.

The Consul General said that markets set up at the Pak-Iran would promote land route trade between the two countries.

He also invited the Governor to visit Iran. He also expressed his grief and sorrow over loss of life in the Warsak Road blast and prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured.

IESCO apprehended 228 individuals involved in electricity theft

ISLAMABAD, Sep 12 (APP):Islamabad Electric Supply Company (IESCO) during the ongoing campaign against electricity theft had apprehended 228 individuals involved in power theft.
According to a spokesperson, in a determined effort to combat electricity theft in the IESCO region, authorities have launched a comprehensive operation involving the Anti-Corruption and Surveillance teams.
The company has taken action against 197 residential, 20 commercial, 3 agricultural, and 8 industrial connections.
In the wake of this crackdown, penalties totaling over Rs.170 million have been imposed on people involved in power theft.
Furthermore, cases against those implicated in electricity theft have been filed in police stations.
The public has been asked to provide information on both electricity thieves and facilitators.
Citizens can report such incidents to the dedicated focal person at mobile number 03195991304 or through the relevant SDG helpline at 118.

DIG for ensuring security to industrial sector

ABBOTTABAD, Sep 12 (APP):Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Hazara Ajaz Khan on Tuesday emphasized the commitment of law enforcement agencies to ensure the security and prosperity of industries in the region.
“Ensuring the security and prosperity of our industries is essential for the growth and development of the area,” said the DIG during a meeting with the delegation of industrialists hailing from the Haripur Chamber of Commerce and the Hattar Industrial Estate (HIE).
The delegation led by Syed Safdar Hussain Shah extended a warm welcome to the newly appointed DIG during an introductory meeting.
During the meeting, DIG Hazara, Muhammad Ajaz Khan, underscored the significance of the HIE among Pakistan’s major industrial hubs.
Recognizing the integral role of industries in job creation and the maintenance of a peaceful environment, DIG Khan emphasized that the safeguarding of these sectors remains a top priority.

LCCI to comply with DGTO orders, say office-bearers

LAHORE, Sep 12 (APP):Lahore Chamber of Commerce & Industry (LCCI) has made it clear that it would comply with DGTO (Directorate General Trade Organisations) orders without any let and hindrance.
In a joint media statement issued here, LCCI President Kashif Anwar, Senior Vice President Zafar Mahmood Chaudhry and Vice President Adnan Khalid Butt said that LCCI is a premier chamber of the country and it cannot deviate from the law of the land. “Whatever orders would be issued by the DGTO, they would be implemented in letter and spirit and entire election process was suspended as per DGTO order dated September 7, 2023.”
They said that the DGTO office has said in a letter to the Chambers and Trade Organizations that the Honorable Islamabad High Court has suspended the order of Trade Organizations Regulator regarding election under CM No. 1/2023, Writ Petition No. 2226/2023 Dated 7 July 2023. Until the final decision of the Islamabad High Court, there would be no activity of elections of the Chambers and Trade Organizations as long as the stay order of the Honorable Islamabad High Court regarding the elections of Chambers and Trade Organizations is maintained.
Until the final decision of the Islamabad High Court, there will be no election activity for chambers and trade organizations, so Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry has suspended all election activities in compliance with the orders and also withdrawn the election schedule.

Food authority seizes over 3000 kg harmful tea leaves

PESHAWAR, Sep 12 (APP):Food Safety and Halal Food Authority seized over 3,000 kilograms of substandard and harmful tea leaves during the raid on a local factory in Bashirabad.
According to details, the food safety team in its ongoing campaign against food adulteration mafia handed over the seized substandard and harmful tea leaves to the authorities.
The food authorities said that the owner of the factory was arrested and legal proceedings were initiated with the seizure of the factory and machinery. Adulteration involving tea leaves, non-food grade color, used tea, and chemicals. The tea leaves were intended for supply to Punjab.
Director General of the Food Authority, Shah Rukh Ali Khan said that there is zero tolerance for counterfeiters and the adulteration mafia.
He said that strict action will be taken against those jeopardizing public health.

KARACHI, Sep 12 (APP):Sindh caretaker Minister for Home and Prisons Brig. (R) Haris Nawaz, on Tuesday, observed that the Safe City Project would enhance law enforcement capabilities, improve emergency response times and deter criminal activities.
The minister, while presiding over a high-level meeting regarding Karachi Safe City Project, termed safety and well-being of citizens as the top priority and said that the authorities concerned must remain steadfast in pursuit of its successful implementation.
The meeting was attended by Home Secretary Sindh, Muhammed Iqbal Memon; IGP Sindh, Riffat Mukhtar; DIGP Special Branch, Asif Aijaz Shaikh; Director IT CPO, Tabasum Abid and a 10-member delegation of NRTC led by Commodore (R) Raheel.
The meeting was informed that the Karachi Safe City Project envisaged the installation of a network of latest closed-circuit television cameras in the city for digital surveillance while the project involved all the law-enforcement and emergency services’ agencies in the metropolis for a quick and adequate response to tackle any law and order situation.
The National Radio and Telecommunication Corporation (NRTC) official informed the meeting that under the project, 10,000 new cameras would be installed phase wise in 36 to 42 months at the identified locations across the city, while a modern command and control centre would also be set up.
The CCTV system would have advanced cameras and the network would have a dual- solar and electrical – power system, they added.

Parliamentarians asked to submit asset statements by Dec end

ISLAMABAD, Sep 12 (APP):The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has asked all members of parliament and provincial assemblies to submit their statements of assets and liabilities including those of their spouses and dependents by December 31.
According to ECP, all parliamentarians have to submit their yearly statements of assets and liabilities including similar details of their spouses and dependent children as on the preceding June 30 on Form B for the financial year 2022-2023.
The Commission, on the first day of January each year will publish names of members, who fail to submit the requisite statement of assets and liabilities within the period specified under sub-section (1).
The commission will on January 16 by an order suspend the membership of a member of an Assembly or Senate, who fails to submit the statement of assets and liabilities and such Member shall cease to function till he files the statement of assets and liabilities.
The ECP further said that any member submitting a fake statement of assets and liabilities under this section in material particulars may, within 120 days from the date of submission of the statement, be proceeded against for committing the offense of corrupt practice.
The ECP said that the prescribed form, along with instructions and guidelines prepared in this regard, can be obtained free of cost from the ECP Secretariat, Islamabad, offices of provincial election commissioners in each province, Senate Secretariat, National Assembly, and secretariats of provincial assemblies. Form B can also be downloaded from the ECP’s website www.ecp.gov.pk.

PM for action against elements spreading chaos in name of religion in Gilgit

GILGIT, Sep 12 (APP): Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar on Tuesday directed the authorities concerned to identify the elements spreading chaos in the name of religion in Gilgit, and take strict action against them.

The prime minister, chairing a meeting to discuss development projects and law and order situation in Gilgit Baltistan, said the security of every citizen was the state’s responsibility.

In the meeting, the prime minister was briefed about the progress on projects in information technology, health, education, and other sectors, as well as the issues.

He was told that steps had been taken to identify and address the problems confronting the education sector in all GB districts, particularly Diamer and Astore.

The measures taken for the promotion of education sector included the provision of food to the students, reconstruction of buildings and rehabilitation of dilapidated structures, professional training of teachers, and establishment of smart schools.

The prime minister was also apprised of projects in the GB health sector including the establishment of a 24-hour helpline to address the issue of mental health.

Besides the performance of the environment and tourism sectors, the prime minister was also briefed about the sowing of wheat and subsidy on the crop, production and potential of hydel power in GB as well as the budget.

Prime Minister Kakar directed the GB administration and leadership to assess the scope of the ongoing development projects and give a special focus on those of a crucial nature.

Interim Interior Minister Sarfaraz Bugti, Interim Information and Broadcasting Minister Murtaza Solangi, Gilgit Baltistan Governor Syed Mehdi Shah, Chief Minister Gulbar Khan, GB chief secretary and IG Police, and senior officers attended the meeting.

Tehsildars tasked to recover dues from LESCO defaulters

LAHORE, Sep 12 (APP):Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) is all set to recover outstanding dues, which run into billions of rupees, from big defaulters in all its circles and Tehsildars have been entrusted the recovery task in their respective areas of jurisdiction, while collaborating with the designated senior officers of LESCO.
LESCO spokesman told media here Tuesday that in this regard, Lahore Division’s Commissioner also issued a notification assigning additional charge of Tehsildar Recovery (from LESCO defaulters) to relevant Tehsildars, while LESCO Chief Executive Officer Engineer Shahid Haidar has also designated four senior officers to assist them in the dues recovery from defaulters. Top 100 defaulters in each circle owed total outstanding dues of Rs 4.545 billion to LESCO, he added.
As per Commissioner Office notification, Tehsildar City Mujahid Zia has been given the additional charge of Tehsildar Recovery for Northern Circle, and Tehsildar Shalimar Noreez Humayun for Eastern Circle Lahore, while they would be assisted by LESCO Chief Engineer O&M (T&G) Zafar Iqbal. Tehsildar Model Town Rana Arsal and Tehsildar Cantt Sajjad Qureshi would be responsible for recovery from LESCO defaulters in Central Circle Lahore and Southern Circle respectively, and they would be assisted by LESCO Manager (Material Disposal) Engineer Mohammad Anwar Watto. Tehsildar Nankana Sahib Muhammad Iqbal Rasheed would be responsible for Nankana Circle and Tehsildar Sheikhupura Muhammad Aslam Gujjar for Sheikhupura Circle, and they would be assisted by LESCO Manager (Technical) Engineer Mohammad Farooq. Similarly, Deputy Tehsildar Kasur Mirza Zahid Baig has been given additional charge of Tehsildar Recovery of Kasur and Okara Circles, and LESCO Manager (E&S) PMU Engineer Abbas Ali will assist him.
Sharing details of 100 top defaulters in each circle, the spokesman mentioned that LESCO has to recover a total of Rs 1.885 billion dues from top 100 defaulters in Eastern Circle, Rs 1.089 billion in Sheikhupura Circle, Rs 667.966 million in Northern Circle, Rs 155.373 million in Central Circle, Rs 240.970 million in Southern Circle, Rs 164.117 million in Okara Circle, Rs 324.417 million in Kasur Circle, and Rs 17.745 million in Nankana Circle.
Meanwhile, LESCO Chief Executive Officer Engineer Shahid expressed the resolve, “In addition to a vigorous campaign against electricity pilferers, we are also tightening noose around big defaulters. All possible measures are being taken to ensure 100 percent recovery from the defaulter.”

363 electricity thieves caught in six days, cases registered against 127

FAISALABAD, Sep 12 (APP):Faisalabad Electric Supply Company (FESCO) has accelerated its anti theft drive and caught 363 electricity thieves during last six days.
FESCO spokesman Tahir Sheikh said that the anti-theft drive was launched under the direction of the Prime Minister of Pakistan and the Ministry of Energy (Power Division) six days ago.
During this operation, FESCO teams detected 363 pilferage of electricity at 363 points across its region and got cases registered against 127 thieves. The company also removed electricity supply meters of all power pilferers besides imposing a total fine of Rs.37 million under detection units of 972,000, he added.
Giving further details, the spokesman said that during house-to-house checking, the FESCO teams detected electricity theft at 127 points in Faisalabad district where 115 domestic consumers, 5 commercial, 5 agricultural and one industrial consumer were involved in power pilferage. The FESCO imposed a fine of Rs.14.566 million on them under the head of 341804 detection units.
In Bhakkar district, the FESCO teams caught 30 electricity thieves, including 29 domestic and one commercial connection and imposed a fine of Rs.2.442 million under 51075 detection units.
Similarly, 31 cases of electricity theft were detected in Chiniot district where the power pilferers were stealing electricity through 29 domestic, one commercial and one agricultural connection and the company handed down them with a fine of Rs.2.182 million under 73692 detection units.
He further said that 61 electricity thieves were caught from Jhang district including 57 domestic and 4 agricultural connection holders and they were imposed a fine of Rs.7.324 million under 252523 detection units.
In Khushab district, 13 domestic consumers were found involved in electricity theft and they were handed down with a fine of Rs.750,000 for 18553 detection units.
The FESCO teams also caught 28 power pilferers from Mianwali. Among them included 25 domestic, 2 agricultural and one commercial connection holders and they were fined with Rs.3.299 million for 79914 detection units.
In Sargodha district, 36 cases of electricity theft were detected at 33 domestic, 2 agricultural and one commercial connection. Hence, a fine of Rs.3.052 million was imposed on the electricity thieves under 70687 detection units.
The FESCO teams also caught 38 electricity thieves from Toba Tek Singh district where they were stealing power at 37 domestic and one agricultural connection. Therefore, the company imposed a fine of Rs.3.475 million for 84046 detection units, spokesman added.
