President for collective efforts to tackle socio-economic challenges

KARACHI, Sep 19 (APP): President Dr Arif Alvi on Tuesday emphasized for collective efforts to tackle challenges of unemployment, rising stress in society, improving access for differently-abled persons to opportunities, and enhanced female participation in businesses and jobs.

He also underscored the importance of volunteerism and active involvement of the chambers, banking sector, and civil society to overcome the socio-economic challenges in the meeting with a delegation of Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI).

The president urged the business community to play a pivotal role in advancing social sectors and fulfilling their corporate social responsibility by helping those in need. The collaborative endeavours by the public and private sectors could bring about a positive transformation in people’s lives, particularly in the realm of social initiatives, he added.

The president stressed for the creation of an inclusive society that actively promoted female participation in socio-economic activities. He called upon the KCCI members to inspire and support women in becoming future entrepreneurs, fostering confidence and empowerment among them.

He also emphasized the importance of human development and advised the business community to create more employment opportunities for women and persons with disabilities.

President Alvi acknowledged the positive impact of information technology on facilitating bank account opening and financial transactions for women. He emphasized the business community’s role in providing a conducive atmosphere for women at workplace.

He also called on the corporate sector to prioritize the welfare of workers and environmental protection, ensuring a better world for future generations.

Regarding the performance of the banking sector, President Alvi praised its achievements over the past three years. He urged the chambers to develop fast-track mechanisms to ensure quantifiable performance, with a specific goal of achieving 20 to 25% female employment within the industry.

He commended some banks in the country for achieving a remarkable 30% female employment.

The president highlighted that Pakistan had great potential with abundant natural and human resources, but there was need to provide quality education and skills to harness the competitiveness of the industrial and business sectors.

He urged the KCCI members to engage with the government and civil society to find solutions for the challenges faced by them in carrying out corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities.

He asked for regular meetings between KCCI and architects to ensure the creation of accessible facilities such as ramps in hospitals, shopping plazas, and industries for differently-abled individuals.

PSX stays bullish, gains 107 points

ISLAMABAD, Sep 19 (APP): The 100-index of the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) continued with bullish trend on Tuesday and gained 107.28 points, showing growth of 0.23 percent, closing at 45,910.47 points against 45,803.19 points the previous trading day.

A total of 117,145,448 shares were traded during the day as compared to 103,494,874 shares, whereas the trading value of shares was recorded at Rs 4.110 billion against Rs 3.296 billion on the last trading day.

As many as 323 companies transacted their shares in the stock market; 160 of them recorded gains and 136 sustained losses, whereas the share price of 27 companies remained unchanged.

The three top-trading companies were Yousuf Weaving with 11,645,500 shares at Rs 2.93 per share; SEARLR2 with 7,363,949 shares at Rs 0.77 per share and Bankislami Pak with 6,072,990 shares at Rs 15.08 per share.

Nestle Pakistan witnessed a maximum increase of Rs 100.00 per share price, closing at Rs 7,100.00, whereas the runner-up was Bhanero Textile with Rs 65.00 rise in its per share price to Rs 990.00.

Sanofi-Aventis witnessed a maximum decrease of Rs 56.92 per share closing at Rs 702.08; followed by Mehmood Textile with Rs 40.27 decline to close at Rs 496.70.

Caretaker PM attends 78th UNGA opening session

NEW YORK,  Sept 19 (APP): Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar on Tuesday attended the 78th opening session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA 78).

 

The prime minister will present Pakistan at the high level moot on Global Development Initiative and would address the participants, PM Office Media Wing said in a press release.

Besides, he will also attend and address a high level meeting on Sustainable Development Goals.

PM Kakar is expected to meet Iranian President Sayyid Ebrahim Raisi and President of Turkiye Recep Tayyip Erdogan on the sidelines of the session.

The prime minister will also attend a reception hosted by US President Joe Biden in the honour of the global leaders.

ISLAMABAD, Sep 19 (APP): Portuguese football sensation Cristiano Ronaldo made a young Iranian fan’s dream come true during the Al-Nassr’s visit to Tehran for their AFC Champions League clash against Persepolis on Tuesday.

Upon his arrival to the Iranian capital, Ronaldo was welcomed with a thunderous reception from adoring fans who chanted his name and enthusiastically waved to their football hero.

However, a touching moment was captured on video which went viral on social media, showing an Iranian child in tears after being unable to meet the football legend. The emotional clip caught the attention of the Al-Nassr Football Club’s management.

Responding swiftly to the outpouring of support for the young fan, the club arranged a meeting of the child with Cristiano Ronaldo personally. In a heartwarming encounter, the child had the opportunity to take pictures with his idol, received a signed T-shirt, and, most notably, performed the famous ‘Siu’ celebration in front of Ronaldo.

Al-Nassr FC shared this touching moment on their official social media accounts, emphasizing the deeper significance of football. In a tweet, they wrote, “Football is not just a game. It is much bigger than that. Al-Nassr Saudi Arabia and its star Ronaldo embody that.”

ABBOTTABAD, Sep 19 (APP): District Police Officer (DPO) Batgram Sonia Shamroz Khan has been conferred the prestigious International Woman Police Award in Auckland, New Zealand, for her exceptional contributions to policing and exemplary services.

Sonia Shamroz Khan was bestowed with the Officer of the Year Award at a conference organized by the International Association of Women Police, and attended by ambassadors and prominent figures from 75 countries, including 350 women, a DIG office press release said on Tuesday.

Sonia Shamroz Khan (PSP), a true pride of Pakistan, stamped her name in history as the first Asian and second Muslim woman to receive the ‘Women Police Officer of the Year’ Award.

Speaking at the conference, Sonia acknowledged the outstanding dedication of women police officers, emphasizing their tireless efforts in maintaining peace and safety while playing pivotal roles.

She stressed the significance of upholding cultural values and sensitivities in the execution of their duties, resulting in a notable increase in the reporting of crimes involving women.

It may be mentioned that prior to her tenure, women in Batgram rarely visited police stations to report crimes, but her leadership has inspired a change, with more women seeking police assistance.

Hailing from Abbottabad, Sonia Shamroz Khan stands as a role model for women worldwide due to her remarkable services and being the first Asian and second Muslim woman to clinch the Officer of the Year Award.
