LAHORE, September 22 (APP): Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee Chairman Maulana Syed Muhammad Abdul Khabir Azad Friday highlighted the significance of the month of Rabi-ul-Awwal and the mercy of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) in a grand congregation held at the globally renowned Badshahi Mosque.

Addressing the congregation, he spoke of the importance of Rabi-ul-Awwal, a month that held a special place in the hearts of Muslims worldwide.

He emphasized that in this blessed month, Allah Almighty sent His beloved, the mercy for all mankind, Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him), as a source of guidance and light for both this world and the Hereafter.

Maulana Azad praised the exemplary character and conduct of the Holy Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him) and stated that following his noble example was the path to success in both this life and the Hereafter.

He highlighted that the teachings of the Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him) had closed the doors of ignorance and opened the gates to enlightenment and greatness.

He spoke passionately about the responsibilities of people of Pakistan, a nation founded on the principles of Islam and the Kalimah Tayyibah (the declaration of faith).

He stressed that the safeguarding of Pakistan was the collective responsibility of the entire nation, adding “Islam is a religion of peace that teaches respect for humanity.”

Maulana Azad called for unity, harmony, and national solidarity, stating that these values were of utmost importance for Pakistan.

He praised the armed forces and various national institutions for their unwavering commitment to the safety and well-being of the country, emphasizing that the entire nation stood alongside its brave armed forces.

Addressing the current regional challenges, particularly the actions of neighboring India, he underscored the need for vigilance and determination urging the nation to remain steadfast and united in the face of internal and external threats.

The Friday congregation prayer was followed by special supplications for the unity of Muslim Ummah, the protection of Harmain Sharifain, the prosperity and well-being of Pakistan, and the freedom of occupied territories of Kashmir and Palestine.

Work on Pak-Iran gas pipeline initiated: Minister Muhammad Ali

LAHORE, Sep 22 (APP):Caretaker Federal Minister for Energy, Power and Petroleum Muhammad Ali said on Friday that work on Pak-Iran gas pipeline has been initiated.

He was talking to the media after inaugurating Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) first Model Customer Service Centre here at its Regional Office on Gurumangat Road.

The minister said that 20 per cent natural gas has been decreased as compared to last year, while the government would try to manage gas load-shedding in winter; however, he added the government could not provide gas on cheaper rates, after purchasing at higher rates. People would have to use the natural fuel wisely, he added.

Muhammad Ali, responding to a query about Russian oil, said that only one cargo had arrived on trial basis, but the problem was to refine it. Only the Pakistan Oil Refinery was refining 46,000 tons of oil monthly, while demand was many times higher. The government was trying to engage private refineries to meet the demand, he added. The government is working on importing more Russian oil, resolving the refinery issues, and making efforts to provide maximum relief to people.

The minister said that taxpayers are feeding only 9 per cent to GDP of Pakistan, which is one of the lowest in the world; people would get relief only if tax collection improves.

As many as 14 counters have been set up at the Model Customer Service Centre, which included applications for new connection, change of ownership, re-connection, business development counter, billing counter, violation checking counter, billing office counter, accounts/treasury counter, business development process counter, distribution counter, operation counter, maintenance counter, billing industrial & commercial counter, reconnection process counter and inquiry office.

Citizen will also be able to get duplicate payment slip, security refund and bill correction facilities while a help desk has also been established to provide guidance about energy conservation and safety measures, he said.
Managing Director SNGPL Amir Tufail, Deputy MD Saqib Arbab, Senior General Manager Distribution Qaiser Masood and other officers were also present.

TDCP team visits city for ‘Thal Jeep Rally’ arrangements

MULTAN, Sep 22 (APP):Tourism Development Corporation of Punjab (TDCP) team Friday visit to city to make arrangements for the 8th ‘Thal Jeep Rally 2023’.

The team led by event Manager Nouman Ahmed met with Regional Manager TDCP Ashar Iqbal Malik and Sheikh Ijaz.

Briefing was given to the manager about the rally and the nature of the work and responsibilities of the relevant departments.

Talking to the media persons, the manager said that the jeep rally was being organized in the Thal desert for past seven years on the style of Cholistan.

The Jeep Rally will be held this year which will not only promote sports activities but also economic activities in South Punjab, he added.

In response to a question, he said that the experience of jeep rally in Thal desert had been quite successful, in which motor racers from all over the country participated.

Meanwhile, the motor racers said that Thal was a ideal place regarding motor racing and they would enjoy.

Visually impaired students also join in ‘Plant for Pakistan’ campaign

SARGODHA, Sep 22 (APP):The visually impaired students also joined in the ‘Plant for Pakistan’ campaign here on Friday by planting saplings in their school and on the adjacent streets in the presence of Commissioner Sargodha Division Muhammad Ajmal Bhatti.

After planting saplings, students and teachers of Government Secondary Institute for Visually Impaired Boys, Iqbal Colony, Sargodha, recorded their messages regarding importance of trees and uploaded it on the social media to motivate the public.

The commissioner, while addressing students and citizens, said: “We have contributed our share; now it is turn of others.”

Secretary District Regional Transport Authority Malik Tahir, Director PHA Farooq Haider Aziz, DO Special Education Faryad Hussain, Garden Superintendent PHA Malik Ahmad Nawaz, Zone In-charge Ismail Gujjar, host Principal Hafiz Ashfaq Ahmed and others were also present.

The commissioner greatly appreciated the passion of the visually impaired children for planting trees and said, “Even though these children can’t see, they realise that our climate has become a disaster, so we must save the earth for all the living things.”

Teachers and students of the school pledged to Commissioner Ajmal Bhatti that they would try their best to nurture these plants and encourage others to plant trees.

61 cases registered for violating dengue SOPs

RAWALPINDI, Sep 22 (APP): The District Health Authority(DHA)  lodged 61 FIRs and sealed three premises for violating anti-dengue Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) during the last 24 hours.
District Coordinator Epidemics Prevention and Control (DCEPC), Dr Sajjad Mehmood Friday said that the health department, in collaboration with allied departments issued tickets to 15 persons and imposed a fine of Rs 42,500 on violations of the SOPs .
Presently, the health officer informed that 122 patients were admitted to different health facilities in the district of which 86 were confirmed cases while 768 were discharged after treatment.
Dr Sajjad said that with the arrival of 20 more cases during the last 24 hours, the district’s total tally had reached 854 confirmed cases.
Among the new cases, he informed that nine patients had arrived from the Potohar town urban area, six from the Chaklala Cantonment, three from Municipal Corporation, and one from the Potohar rural area.

HESCO says it recovered over Rs 1.3b from consumers, electricity thieves

HYDERABAD, Sep 22 (APP): The Hyderabad Electric Supply Company (HESCO) has claimed to have recovered Rs1.345 billion since September 7 out of Rs169 billion in payable dues over the public and private sector consumers.

The Company’s spokesman Sadiq Kubar informed here on Friday that Rs33.9 million out of Rs155.7 million fines imposed against the power theft had also been collected during the ongoing crackdown against theft and for the recovery. According to him, the officials of HESCO had submitted 825 letters for registration of FIR against the people involved in stealing electricity while 311 FIRs had been lodged so far besides the arrest of 31 persons.

He told that the power supply from 556 transformers was disconnected because of default in payment of bills and theft. Kubar apprised that on the directives of the caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar and the Energy Ministry, the clampdown continued in all the 13 districts of Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas and Benazirabad divisions which were powered by HESCO.

He said the Company was not only taking action against the theft but it was also providing hassle-free connections to the people who want to become their consumers. He added that HESCO would continue the crackdown against the theft and even if its employees were found conniving in the theft, the Company would not spare them.

CDA engages PIDE for its services on solutions to Capital’s urban issues

ISLAMABAD, Sep 22 (APP):Chairman Capital Development Authority (CDA) Captain (R) Anwar ul Haq on Friday met Pakistan Institute of Development Economics (PIDE) Vice Chancellor, Dr Nadeem ul Haq here at CDA headquarters to benefit from the professional services of the institution to workout innovative solutions to the metropolis’ pressing urban issues.

The CDA chairman was flanked by other officers of CDA including Member Technology and Digitalization, Member Planning and Design on this occasion, a news release said.

During the meeting, it was discussed that the experiences of PIDE will be utilized in matters pertaining to Islamabad Land Digitization alongwith its professional services in other matters including revising the Islamabad Master Plan.

The Institute’s professional skills should be fully utilized to evaluate the fulfillment of residential needs in the city, the meeting vowed.

The Chairman CDA said, “A study should be conducted from PIDE for proper use of roofs of buildings in different business areas of Islamabad. Similarly, services should be taken from (PIDE) for recommendations in improving urban transport.”

On this occasion, the Chairman CDA said that the services of PIDE could be obtained to improve other matters including solving parking problems in Islamabad city. The Member CDA Technology and Digitalisation was also appointed as the focal person.

The Chairman Capital Development Authority said, “The CDA and PIDE can do many things for Islamabad, which will further help in providing the best facilities to the citizens.”

 

SBP launches ‘Diamond’ category of Sohni Dharti Remittance Program

KARACHI, Sep 22 (APP):Ina bid to further encourage remittances through formal channels, the State Bank of Pakistan, Friday, launched a new ‘Diamond’ category of the Sohni Dharti Remittance Program (SDRP) that offers enhanced points and additional benefits to remitters.
The category will be effective from September 22, 2023, in addition to existing three- Green, Gold and Platinum- categories of SDRP that is a point-based loyalty program in which remitters accumulate reward points by sending remittances through formal channels of SBP regulated entities, said a statement issued here.
Former Finance Minister Ishaq Dar in his budget speech for FY24 had announced the addition of Diamond category with enhanced reward points and provision of other benefits like arms license of non-prohibited bore, preferential treatment at Pakistan embassies and airports and gratis passport to the Diamond Category holders.
Reward points can be redeemed by remitter and their beneficiary for availing free of cost products and services including Emigrant Registration fee at Bureau of Emigration and Overseas Employment; duty payment of imported mobile sets and vehicles to Federal Board of Revenue; School fee by Overseas Pakistanis Foundation (OPF); and renewal fee of passports at Directorate General of Immigration and Passports, said the statement.
Moreover, benefits on redeeming reward points can also be availed on International air tickets and extra luggage charges by Pakistan International Airlines; life insurance or takaful premium payment at State Life Insurance Corporation; and purchases made at Utility Stores Corporation of Pakistan.
These reward points appear on the app in the form of a virtual card that updates automatically with reward points after each remittance.
Additional reward points redemption avenues like 1BILL and PayPak card are also being offered in SDRP. The addition of these new avenues will provide benefits to remitters and their beneficiaries to pay bills and use PayPak Card at merchants and Pakistani e-commerce stores.
