NAB submits record of references against Nawaz Sharif, Asif Zardari

ISLAMABAD, Sep 22 (APP):The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Friday submitted the record of several references to accountability court against former prime ministers including Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, Yousaf Raza Gilani, Raja Pervaiz Ashraf and ex-president Asif Ali Zardari.
The investigation officer of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) submitted record of 14 more references this day in light of the orders of top court. The bureau had shared a list of 80 references out of which record of 44 had been submitted so far.
The bureau submitted record of toshakhana reference against Nawaz Sharif, Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani and Asif Ali Zardari while the record of Rental Power reference against Raja Pervaiz Ashraf was also filed in accountability court-III.
Similarly, record of reference against former president Asif Zardari pertaining to suspicious transaction worth Rs8 billion was also submitted to the same court.
It may be mentioned here that the top court had terminated the amendments in NAB law and ordered to restore the all reference which were returned under changes in law.

Over 10,000 power pilferers netted across the MEPCO region so far

MULTAN, Sep 22 (APP):Multan Electric Power Company (MEPCO) in its ongoing drive against power pilferage on Friday netted 151 more power pilferers and the number of total power pilferers reached 10227.
101 new cases were registered and the number of total cases was 3708. The total number of arrested power pilferers reached 294.
The teams have also imposed a Rs 292.3 million fine on power pilferers so far.
Meanwhile, general managers/chief engineers have started monitoring operation circles to make the drive against defaulters for recovery of dues/arrears.
Over Rs 870 million have been recovered from thousands of running and permanent defaulters during the ongoing drive across the region.

TMB receives IPA to establish digital retail bank

ISLAMABAD, Sep 22 (APP): Telenor Microfinance Bank (TMB), the operator of Pakistan’s leading digital financial services platform, easypaisa, has received In-Principle Approval (IPA) for Digital Retail Bank (DRB) license from the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) under the Licensing and Regulatory Framework for Digital Banks.

This remarkable achievement has positioned TMB as a digital bank poised to offer a wide array of exciting financial services primarily through digital channels, revolutionizing the digital banking experience for millions of Pakistanis, said a press release issued here on Friday.

The SBP hosted a ceremony in Karachi to officially grant In-Principle Approval to five banks, including TMB. The event saw the presence of sponsors of other DRBs, incumbent bank CEOs, financial institutions, fintechs, SBP’s top management, as well as TMB’s senior management and shareholders, including Kashif Ahmed, Acting CEO, Amna Abbas, CLO, Solomon Jamin, Vice President, Investment Management, Telenor Asia, and Douglas Feagin, Senior Vice President, Global Strategic Partnerships and Investments, Ant Group.

In January 2022, SBP introduced a Licensing and Regulatory Framework for Digital Banks and planned to issue up to five digital banks’ licenses. Earlier this year, 5 applicants including TMB were selected after a rigorous assessment process as per the requirements of the framework and were awarded a No Objection Certificate (NOC) to set up a digital bank.

Commenting on the development, Irfan Wahab Khan, Chairman, Telenor Microfinance Bank, said “This is a great milestone for us and a testament of our efforts towards enabling financial inclusion in Pakistan. MULTAN, Sep 22 (APP):Allama Iqbal Opening University (AIOU) is concentrating on imparting quality education to students at their doorsteps, and swift centres have been set up across the country.
Vice Chancellor of the university, Dr. Nasir Mehmood, stated this while speaking to the media at the regional office in connection with the varsity’s golden jubilee celebrations here on Friday.
He informed that 4.6 students have so far been awarded degrees, adding that in total, 7 lac students benefit in one semester.
The VC noted that work on research projects was underway, adding that issues related to the issuance of degrees were being settled.
The varsity is engaging able faculty members, tutors, and resource persons, Dr. Mehmood informed. Later, a cake was also cut for the opening of the golden jubilee celebrations.

CM China visit : Sahiwal, Bhawalpur declared sister cities of Chinese cities

LAHORE, Sep 22 (APP):Two agreements were signed between the Punjab governments and the Ningxia province during the visit of Punjab caretaker Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi to China.
The agreements establish Sahiwal and Wuzhong as well as Bahawalpur and Zhang Wei as sister cities. The signing ceremony took place in Yinchuan, the capital of Ningxia province, with Minister for Industry and Agriculture SM Tanvir representing the Punjab government, said a handout issued here.
The ceremony was attended by provincial ministers Azfar Ali Nasir and Ibrahim Hasan Murad, as well as Secretary Finance Mujahid Sherdil alongside senior officials from Ningxia.
The agreements are aimed at fostering strong and friendly ties between Bahawalpur, Sahiwal, and their Chinese counterparts. Under the terms of the agreement, mutual understanding and collaboration will be promoted through the exchange of delegations and cooperation efforts. Additionally, the sister cities will extend support to each other across various sectors, including the fields of economy, trade, science, and technology.
Furthermore, senior officials and line departments from the sister cities will share expertise and engage in reciprocal visits to strengthen these amicable relations.
Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi expressed his warm welcome to the agreements and recognized their significance in the context of Pakistan-China relations. He conveyed his gratitude to the party secretary and senior officials of Ningxia, highlighting the agreements as pivotal milestones in enhancing and promoting bilateral relations between the two provinces. Naqvi also emphasized that the people of Punjab will reap the benefits of the agreements.
Provincial Minister SM Tanvir underscored that the agreements with two of China’s most modern cities hold great promise and potential.
Minister Azfar Ali Nasir affirmed that the agreements would open doors for cooperation in various fields of life. Provincial Minister Ibrahim Murad called the agreements a significant achievement.

Pakistan, Ethiopia discuss Parliamentary cooperation to boost bilateral ties

ISLAMABAD, Sep 22 (APP): Pakistan and Ethiopia on Friday discussed possibilities of exchanging Parliamentary delegations to further strengthen the bilateral ties and foster robust cooperation in diverse areas.

The discussion took place here at the Parliament House during a meeting between Ethiopian Ambassador Jemal Beker Abdula and Chairman Senate Muhammad Sadiq Sanjrani, said a news release.

During the meeting, both the dignitaries also discussed matters of mutual interest including bilateral, regional and multilateral cooperation between the two countries.

Ambassador Jemal Beker invited Sanjrani to visit Ethiopia which was a land of origins and a gateway to the African continent.

Volume of bilateral trade between the two countries was minimal, he said while underlining the need to enhance bilateral trade between the two countries by developing economic and business linkages.

Highlighting the importance of Ethiopia under Pakistan’s Engage Africa policy, the ambassador said Ethiopian market offered lucrative business, trade and investment opportunities to the Pakistan’s business community.

Chairman Sanjrani expressed gratitude to the Ethiopian parliamentary leadership, government, and the ambassador for extending him invitation to visit Ethiopia. The exchange of parliamentary delegations would fortify relations between the two countries, he added.

Chairman Sanjrani emphasized the importance of the existing strong bond between the two nations, rooted in shared history, common interests, and mutual support at international platforms.

He lauded the Government of Ethiopia for launching the Ethiopian Airlines in Karachi which would not only connect Pakistan with Ethiopia but also with entire Africa.

FESCO power shutdown schedule

FAISALABAD, Sep 22 (APP):The Faisalabad Electric Supply Company (FESCO) has announced power shutdown programme in connection with necessary repair and maintenance of electric lines and grid stations on Sept 25.
According to schedule, power supply would remain suspended from 8a.m. to 2p.m. from New Sabzi Mandi and Mujtaba feeders, from 7a.m. to 1p.m. from S-II and Eden Valley housing scheme.
On Sept 26, power will remain suspended from 7a.m. to 1p.m. from Faisalabad Road, Ahmad Straw Board, Usman feeders.
New Dijkot feeder will remain closed from 8a.m. to 1p.m. on Sept 23 to 28 and on 30th.

PFA disposes off 5000 liters adulterated milk

DG KHAN, Sep 22 (APP):Punjab Food Authority (PFA) has raided and disposed of 5000 liters of adulterated milk.
According to the PFA Spokesperson, the food safety team raided Pull Qambar Taunsa road and checked the milk-carrying vehicle. The adulteration of urea, formalin, and water into the milk during the test through latest Lactoscan machine.
The spokesman further said that the milk was being supplied in Peshawar city. The milk was disposed of adulteration proved.
