LAHORE, Sep 25 (APP):The Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (IPS) of the University of Veterinary and Animals
Sciences Lahore organized various programmes to mark the World Pharmacist Day here on
Monday.
A walk, seminar, cake cutting ceremony and a quiz competition featured the event.
The aim of the day was to promote and advocate the role of pharmacists in improving
health world over.
Dean Faculty of Bio-sciences Prof Dr Habibur Rehman led the walk while Director Institute
of Pharmaceutical Sciences (IPS) Dr Tahir Mehmood Khan and a large number of students
and faculty members participated.
The walk started from outside the Vice Chancellor Office and took a round of the city campus.

 

Huawei cloud presents vast range of models, applications

Addressing a Huawei Connect 2023 on type “Partnership Paves the Way for New Value” he said, “Huawei Cloud has built a complete ecosystem to embrace foundation models of all kinds and to engage partners and developers worldwide. ”

He said, over 5 million developers and 42,000 partners have joined the Huawei Cloud ecosystem, over 10,000 applications have been released on KooGallery (Huawei Cloud’s marketplace), and more than 21,000 clients have applied for the Pangu PoC tests.

Ascend AI Cloud Service builds a solid computing backbone. This versatile infrastructure, with exceptional performance and diverse resources, will empower partners and developers in model migration and training.

To be specific, mainstream AI engines (such as MindSpore, Huawei’s deep learning training and inference framework) are embedded, so developers can migrate their state-of-the-art (SOTA) models or other models to Ascend, and train models with trillions of parameters.

Huawei Cloud aimed to build an open global ecosystem with a focus on developers, and Huawei Cloud Model Community is proof.

This is where developers get access to quality datasets, enhanced SOTA models, AI capabilities, developer kits, courses, and technical support. Huawei Cloud also takes developers on an upskilling journey.

Courses on foundation models and cloud native are supplemented with hands-on experience for the chance to get certified and recognized.

Creating a thriving ecosystem also requires joint effort from customers and partners. Huawei Cloud has developed 20+ industry models and 400+ AI applications on Pangu L0 foundation models, together with 150+ partners and 200+ customers. These achievements are unlocking more possibilities in all industries.

LWMC measures for cleanliness on Eid Miladun-Nabi

LAHORE, Sep 25 (APP):In preparation for upcoming Eid Miladun-Nabi celebrations, the Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC) has implemented a comprehensive cleaning initiative under the guidance of its Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Babar Sahib Din.
The CEO said that cleaning of 214 mosques is set to be completed by 11th of Rabiul-Awwal. He said instructions have been issued to ensure clearance of the procession routes in the light of the upcoming Eid Miladun-Nabi celebrations. Over 120 dedicated workers and more than 20 officers are actively involved in the cleaning operation, which is operating in three shifts.
According to LWMC Spokesperson Umar Chaudhry, at the direction of CEO Babar Sahib Din, specialised cleaning teams have been dispatched to ‘zikar/azkar’ gatherings, as well as Miladun-Nabi gatherings held across the city.

PM urges British fashion firm to open buying house in Pakistan

LONDON, Sep 25 (APP): Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar on Monday, highlighting Pakistan’s pro-investment policies and facilities, urged the UK-based Boohoo Group to consider opening buying houses in Pakistan.

The prime minister, in a meeting with leading British businessman and co-founder and Executive Chairman of Boohoo Group Abdullah Kamani, emphasised the advantages of investment in Pakistan and extended an invitation to Boohoo Group to send a buying delegation to Pakistan for enhanced collaboration.

In the meeting, Kamani expressed keen interest in establishing long-term buying linkages with Pakistan and the ambition to create a comprehensive supply chain in the country, encompassing organic cotton to apparel production.

They also hoped for improved Pakistan-UK air connectivity to facilitate increased imports from Pakistan.

Prime Minister Kakar conveyed Pakistan’s commitment to facilitating investment and offered support in establishing manufacturing facilities within the country, particularly within Special Economic Zones (SEZs).

The meeting marked a significant step towards enhancing economic cooperation and trade between Pakistan and the Boohoo Group.

Boohoo Group is a prominent British online fashion retailer with annual sales exceeding one billion pounds, with a wide range of popular brands including boohooMAN, Pretty Little Thing (PLT), Miss Pap, Karen Millen, Coast, Oasis, and Debenhams.

US envoy calls on Planning minister

ISLAMABAD, Sep 25 (APP): US Ambassador to Pakistan Donald Blome on Monday called on Caretaker Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Muhammad Sami Saeed and discussed matters of mutual interest between the two countries.

During the meeting, the Planning minister appreciated the support that Pakistan received from the United States (US) in the field of development cooperation, bilateral trade and investment promotion, a news release said.

The two sides also exchanged views on matters of common interest and expressed their resolve to enhance and strengthen the existing bilateral relations.

Highlighting the government’s efforts for the revival of the national economy, Sami Saeed said it formed a Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) aimed at attracting foreign investment in various sectors such as Mines and Minerals, Agriculture, Information Technology and Energy. The minister invited US companies to explore the options to invest in these sectors.

Ambassador Blome assured that the US would continue development cooperation between the two countries and support Pakistan in its efforts to revive the economy.

PIMS receives another dengue patient

ISLAMABAD, Sep 25 (APP):Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) has received one more dengue patient during the last 24 hours.

According to Dr Mubashir Mushtaq Daha, PIMS ED spokesperson, a total of 23 dengue patients were admitted to the hospital.

He said that no death was reported from dengue while seven patients have been discharged.

He said that keeping in view the sudden increase in the number of dengue patients, 10 further beds in the medical ward- II have been allocated for dengue patients.

He said that the Executive Director of PIMS Prof. Dr Rana Imran Sikandar has made all necessary arrangements to manage dengue cases keeping in view the prevailing high-risk season of disease spread.

He said that the ED has directed the hospital staff to ensure the implementation of the plan prepared to handle the dengue patients at the hospital.

He said that the ED PIMS was personally supervising all preparations to prevent patients from any inconvenience in treatment.

The ED assured that like in previous years, the hospital would provide the best medical care to dengue patients this year, Dr Daha added.

“The hospital is committed to serving the patients with full care and special steps have been taken in this regard,” the spokesperson added.

Dera’s Rescue 1122 service tackles 126 emergencies in last week

DERA ISMAIL KHAN, Sep 25 (APP):The district’s emergency service- Rescue 1122 responded to a total of 126 emergencies during the last week under the supervision of District Emergency Officer Awais Babar.

Sharing the weekly performance report, the Rescue 1122 spokesman said on Monday that the district emergency service tackled different kinds of emergencies over the week which included 100 medical, 20 road accidents, two fire eruptions, three bullet injuries or violence and one building collapse incident.

During these emergencies, he said that a total of 130 patients were rescued.

He said the control room received a total of 22541 emergency calls including 4395 for information or drop calls and 180120 fake or irrelevant calls.

He said that Rescue 1122 also provided services in 12 referral-related emergencies in which 12 patients were shifted from hospital one to another hospital within the district.

He said the rescue 1122 teams were fully equipped with all necessary equipment and they had been efficiently rendering their services during emergencies.

MUZAFFARGARH, Sep 25 (APP):The 20th anniversary of the great politician known as father of democracy, Nawabzada Nasarullah Khan will be marked on September 26 (Tuesday).

Nawabzada Nasarullah’s relentless 70-year-long struggle for the supremacy of the constitution, parliament, and democracy remains an enduring legacy.

Distinguished religious scholar Moulana Syed Kafeel Ahmed Shah Bukhari will grace the occasion. He will address the audiences, comprising political and social leaders, along with representatives from various sectors of society.

The 20th-anniversary ceremony is set to take place at 5 pm at Marhaba Marriage Hall in his hometown, Khangarh. Moulana Syed Kafeel Ahmad Shah Bukhari, the grandson of Moulana Shah Ahmad Noorani Bukhari, will deliver an insightful speech, shedding light on the importance of democracy and unity in the nation.

This event stands as a symbol of unity, bringing together leaders from different political parties across Pakistan. Among the notable attendees will be former provincial minister Nawabzada Mansoor Ahmed Khan, the son of the late Nawabzada Nasrullah Khan, along with several other political luminaries of south Punjab.

He firmly believed that the strength of a nation lay in its democratic institutions and the active participation of its citizens.

Throughout his life, Nasarullah Khan championed the cause of justice, equality, and the rights of every citizen. His advocacy for the marginalized and his unwavering dedication to the welfare of the people were the cornerstones of his political philosophy. He was a true servant of the people, and his legacy is a testament to the power of principled leadership, said Mansoor. “He leaves behind a legacy that inspires us to strive for a better, more just, and more democratic society.”

His services for the promotion of democratic norms will be remembered for generations, and his name will forever be etched in the annals of the nation’s political history, concluded Mansoor.

AIOU to close admission for int’l students on Sep 30

ISLAMABAD, Sep 25 (APP):Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) has offered admissions in BA (associate degree), BBA, Associate degree in education, B.Ed., BS (ODL), and postgraduate diploma programs in the second phase of the autumn semester 2023 for overseas Pakistani and international students.

The last date to apply for these programs is September 30, 2023, and students can only apply online, according to a press release on Monday. It is worth mentioning here that AIOU is the only university in the country providing educational opportunities for Pakistanis living all over the world.

In the last semester, more than 500 students enrolled from 36 countries, including Australia, Russia, South Korea, Japan, China, America, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Canada, France, Spain, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Norway, Portugal, Turkey, South Africa, Iran, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar, Iraq, Oman, and others.

Vice-Chancellor AIOU, Prof. Dr. Nasir Mahmood, has set a target to enroll 10,000 international students in the next five years. It is pertinent to mention here that these programs for international students are offered through the learning management system. All teaching activities, from admissions to examinations, will be done online.

PAC organized Mehfil-e-Sama to mark Rabi –ul-Awal

RAWALPINDI, Sep 25 (APP): Punjab Arts Council (PAC) on Monday organized a Mehfil-e-Sama in connection with Eid Milad-ul-Nabi (S.A.W) celebrations.

Director of Arts Council Waqar Ahmed was the special guest of Mahfil-e-Sama while world-renowned Qawwal Raja Hamid Ali won the applause of the audience.

Director PAC Waqar Ahmad, on the occasion, said that Qawwali was a unique way of expressing emotions and Islam spread in the Indian subcontinent through Qawwali.

Qawwals expressed their love and devotion to Hazrat Muhammad(SAW) in a beautiful way while the art of Qawwali will never decline in Pakistan, he said.

Waqar said that Mahfil-e-Sama provides spiritual peace to a person and the Sufi saints promoted the message of peace, love, brotherhood and tolerance.

He said that the listeners become enthralled by listening and feel themselves in a world, where hatred and narrow-mindedness do not even have a trace.

Assistant Director of Arts Council Muhammad Suleman said that the art of Qawwali was attributed to Amir Khusra and the tradition reached to the modern Qawwali through the Chishti family, delivered by Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and Sabri Brothers.

At the end of the Mehfil-e-Sama, the Director of the Arts Council thanked Raja Hamid Ali and the participants of the Mehfil-e-Sama.

A large number of citizens from twin cities participated in the event.
