ISLAMABAD, May 25 (APP): Speaker of National Assembly Raja Pervez Ashraf on Thursday paid rich tribute to sacrifices rendered by martyrs of the Pakistan Army who sacrificed their lives for defending the motherland.

“The whole nation stands with Pakistan Army like an unbreakable mountain and would continue to guard the dignity and respect of our Martyrs till last breath” he expressed while visiting the mausoleum of Shaheed Captain Raja Muhammad Sarwar, Nishan-e-Haider in connection with Youm-e-Takreem Shuhada-e-Pakistan’ in Singhori Village Gujjar Khan Rawalpindi.

After laying a wreath of flowers at the mausoleum of Shaheed Captain Raja Muhammad Sarwar, he strongly condemned the conspiracy to malign Pakistan Army.He said that all rioters and culprits involved in any state and anti-Army activities would be dealt with the iron hand.

He also said, “What these conspirators committed would be ever condemned by this nation which is united against such heinous anti-state activities.” “The 9th May would be remembered as the darkest day in the annals of Pakistani politics” he added.

later on, Speaker National Assembly Raja Pervez Ashraf also visited mesoleum of Sawar Muhammad Hussain Shaheed Nishan-e-Haider and offered Fateh.

While talking to the media, he said, “The nation will never forgive planners, abettors and perpetrators of 9th May vandalism.” In a reply to the question asked by a media representative, he said, “Brave son of Gujar Khan soil always prove their faithfulness with this country by sacrificing their lives.”

He also vehemently condemned vandalism at the mesoleums of martyrs and said, “No sane and patriotic individual can imagine committing desecration of martyrs with such shamelessness.”
He reiterated that this day is to remember, acknowledge and pay tribute to unmatchable sacrifices rendered by personnel of Law Enforcement Agencies.

Nation to not forgive if attackers of civil, defence installations escaped from justice: PM

PESHAWAR, May 25 (APP): Prime Minister, Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif here on Thursday said that the nation would not forgive if the attackers of civil and defence installations on May 9-10 escaped from justice. The prime minister added that those involved in rioting and planners would be tried under the relevant sections of Anti Terrorism Act.

Chairing a high-level meeting at Governor House Peshawar to review the law and order situation, the prime minister also assured that no injustice would be made with those who were found not involved in subversive activity.

Besides others, the meeting was attended by Governor Haji Ghulam Ali, caretaker Chief Minister Azam Khan, Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah Khan, Finance Minister, Ishaq Dar, Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Marriyum Aurangzeb, Federal Minister Ahsan Iqbal, Prime Minister Adviser Amir Muqam, Chief Secretary and IGP Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The Prime Minister said that this important meeting was planned soon after the May 9-10 incident, but was delayed due to some unavoidable engagements.

However, he said that a zoom meeting was arranged with the Governor KP and Chief Minister to get himself appraised about the huge damages and losses inflicted by the rioters.

The prime minister regretted that these elements, who claimed themselves as pro-Pakistan, were in fact involved in vandalism and by attacking the defense installations they have caused damage beyond imagination that even could not have been done by our enemies in the 75 years history of the country.

He told the participants that Federal Government in consultation with provincial governments has decided that those involved in vandalism and their abetters would be tried under Anti-terrorism Act.

Whereas those elements who attacked the defense installations would be tried under the rules authorized to defence institutions.

The prime minister reiterated his directives to ensure that no injustice should be done with any innocent in this whole process of bringing the anti-state elements to justice.

May 9 tragic events a wake-up call for us: PM

ISLAMABAD, May 25 (APP): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday calling the tragic and heart-rending events of May 9 a wake-up call, said the nation has to identify and expose all such people who wanted to destroy the foundations of Pakistan.

“May 9 has drawn up a dividing line between the protectors and builders of Pakistan and those who wish to weaken it,” the prime minister said in a tweet as the nation observed Youm-e-Takreem Shuhada-e-Pakistan.

The day is being observed to pay a glowing tributes to the nation’s heroes, Ghazis, and martyrs and express its unflinching solidarity with their families.

The prime minister said that he did not see the tragic incidents of May 9 as merely a protest that became violent.

Instead, he said the designs of those who planned them were actually very sinister.

He said there was a clear build-up to the shameful incidents, as the whole nation witnessed in “utter disbelief and a state of shock” how the lust of some people for power made them do what was never done before.

Prime Minister Shehbaz said that by targeting, desecrating and destroying the monuments of Shuhada, and attacking the very symbols of the State, the miscreants attacked the idea & identity of Pakistan and gave the enemies of the country reasons to celebrate.

“Our nation knows how to protect the honour of their martyrs,” he commented and said on the day, the nation revived and reiterated its pledge to uphold the honour and respect of its Shuhada.

He said the essence of Pakistan’s existence lies in the spiritual covenant between its people and the martyrs.

“The creation of Pakistan is a miracle of the 20th century and its edifice stands on the sure foundation of their sacred blood. We will never be able to thank them enough,” the prime minister remarked.

Pakistan’s former permanent envoy to UN Amb. Ahmad Kamal passes away in New York

NEW YORK, May 25 (APP): Pakistan’s eminent diplomat and former Permanent Representative to the United Nations Ambassador Ahmad Kamal passed away in New York on Thursday. He was 85.

During his 40-year-long career with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan, Ambassador Kamal held diplomatic postings in India, Belgium, France, the Soviet Union, Saudi Arabia, and Republic of Korea and had a decade-long assignment as a Permanent Representative of Pakistan to the United Nations in New York and Geneva.

At the UN, Ambassador Kamal was elected to many high posts, notably as Vice President of the General Assembly, President of the Economic and Social Council, Chairman of the Consultations on the Role of NGOs at the United Nations, Chairman of the Working Group on Informatics, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the United Nations Institute of Training and Research, and a member of the United Nations Advisory Committee on Administrative and Budgetary Questions.

Ambassador Kamal served as a special advisor to the UN Secretary-General from 2011 to 2016. He was a Senior Fellow of the United Nations Institute of Training and Research and responsible for the training of diplomats posted to the United Nations. He was the Founding President and CEO of The Ambassador’s Club at the United Nations and also served as a Board Member of the International Association of Permanent Representatives.

Throughout his distinguished career, Ambassador Kamal was widely recognized for his exceptional diplomatic skills and his tireless efforts in bridging cultural divides.

With a keen understanding of geopolitical dynamics, he navigated intricate negotiations and mediated conflicts, always seeking peaceful resolutions and promoting dialogue.

Ambassador Kamal was a graduate of the Paris Institute of Political Studies (better known as Sciences Po) and the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University, USA. He was also a Carnegie Foundation Fellow at the London School of Economics.

He was the author of several important publications, on disarmament, management, multilateralism, global economic issues, and the technical aspects of informatics and information technology. He was an Honorary Visiting Professor at several universities in the United States, and a member of the board of trustees of Fairleigh Dickinson University. He received numerous honors in Pakistan and several other countries.

Ambassador Kamal received several awards for his remarkable diplomatic service, including the Tamgha-i-Pakistan (Pakistan Medal) by the Government of Pakistan in 1971 and the Gwanghwa Medal, (Order of Diplomatic Service Merit) by the Government of the Republic of Korea in 1987. Within his personal sphere, Ambassador was a pillar of strength and love for his family and friends.

He leaves behind his wife Asma, son Omar, daughter Ayesha, and grandson Zain.

Minister condemns attack on polio team in North Waziristan

ISLAMABAD, May 25 (APP): Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah has said the martyrs are our benefactors, and nations that fail to remember those who sacrificed their lives for their people cannot exist for long.

In his video message on Youm-e-Takreem Shuhada-e-Pakistan on Thursday, he paid heartfelt tributes to the martyrs, quoting a Punjabi verse that translates to “when the blood of martyrs spills, it changes the destiny of nations.”

He stressed that it was our duty to remember and honor our martyrs with respect.

Sanaullah said that the family members of martyrs, including parents, siblings, spouses and children, should never feel that the people had forgotten their loved ones who selflessly gave their lives for the nation.

Condemning the incidents on May 9, he said it was painful to see how the miscreants inflicted pain upon the families of the martyrs by desecrating and destroying the monuments dedicated to the Shuhada. “The whole nation strongly condemns these incidents and stands unwaveringly in solidarity with the martyrs’ families.”

The minister declared that the miscreants responsible for defiling the martyrs’ monuments may indeed possess Pakistani citizenship, but they do not deserve to be called Pakistanis.

He expressed a resolute determination to bring these miscreants to justice and ensure they are punished for their wrongdoings, so that no one would dare to repeat such a shameful act in the future.
