RDMC's constructed Mashki Chah Primary School in Chagai inaugurated

ISLAMABAD, Jun 22 (APP):A primary school inauguration ceremony at the Mashki Chah village in Chagai district of Balochistan on Thursday was hosted by the Reko Diq Mining Company (RDMC).

This education project was invested in by the RDMC on the recommendation of the project’s Par-e-Koh Community Development Committee (CDC). The Par-e-Koh CDC comprises stakeholders from nearby villages such as Humai, Mashki Chah, Nok Chah and Durban Chah, said a news release.

By constituting and formalizing CDCs in its area of operations, the RDMC team has initiated the institutionalization of consensus-building among diverse stakeholders in local communities. This ensures local needs are factored in when decisions on social development projects are made by the management. This also ensures wider ownership of the projects invested in as local communities are involved in decision-making.

The newly inaugurated primary school with an enrolment of 32 children, of which 14 are girls, will serve the entire population of Mashki Chah, a small village in Tehsil Nokkundi.

Earlier this year the primary school at Humai, also part of the RDMC social development portfolio, started functioning with an enrolment of 69 students.

The Mashki Chah school was constructed by the RDMC and will be run by a third party with oversight from the RDMC management. Currently interviews to hire female teachers are being conducted by the company.

RDMC operates in the country as a subsidiary of Barrick Gold Corporation and shares Barrick’s commitment to sustainable development.

RDMC country manager, Ali Ehsan Rind said on the occasion, “Being the second primary school inaugurated by the company in district Chagai, this is another example of how the new Reko Diq agreement ensures that benefits from the project start accruing to the people of Chagai well in advance of commercial operations starting.”

“We are all proud to play our role as part of the Par-e-Koh CDC and invest in projects that can deliver benefit to our local communities,” he added.

Reko Diq will be a multi-generational mine with a life of at least 40 years. During peak construction the project is expected to employ 7,500 people and once in production it will create 4,000 long-term jobs.

Barrick’s policy of prioritizing local employment and suppliers will positively impact the local economy. The company plans to finish the Reko Diq feasibility study update by the end of 2024, with 2028 targeted for the first production from the giant copper-gold mine in the country’s Balochistan province.

Murtaza assures ICCI for establishment of industrial park

ISLAMABAD, Jun 22 (APP): Federal Minister of Industry and Production Makhdoom Syed Murtaza Mahmood Thursday said that government would cooperate for the establishment of an industrial park in Islamabad.
He expressed these views while addressing the reception ceremony organized in his honour by the Islamabad Chamber, said a press release issued here.

Syed Murtaza said despite resources, the reason for Pakistan’s problems is the lack of continuity in policies.
“We need to correct our direction, the government has taken many steps for industrial development to bring economic stability through an increase in exports,” he added.

The minister said that the government has presented a budget in difficult circumstances, which includes measures to facilitate the business environment and speed up the industry.

“The sustainable solution to Pakistan’s economic problems is only in increasing exports, unless there is an increase in manufacturing at the local level, the dream of a large increase in exports cannot be fulfilled,” he added.

Syed Murtaza said that “The situation we are facing today is the result of the wrong policies of the last 75 years. Countries develop by making their own policies, unfortunately, we adopted import policies and discouraged manufacturing. Our SME sector has not been able to develop as it should have.

As a minister, I am trying my best to adopt policies that will benefit the economy. Our exports are 30 billion dollars while imports are 80 billion dollars annually, there is no shortage of anything in this country. Only vision is needed.

The government and the opposition should leave their personal egos behind and come on the same page for the country. Economic policies should be formulated not for five years, but for 25 years. If we use our resources properly, Pakistan can be included in the 25 largest economies. I will fully support Islamabad Chamber for projects like Expo Center, and Industrial State.”

President Islamabad Chamber of Commerce Ahsan Zafar Bakhtawari said in his address that the federal government presented a balanced budget. Good measures have been taken in the budget for the industry, for which I thank Federal Minister Murtaza Mahmood.

The federal minister wants to solve the problems of the business community, the economy can be brought out of the crisis only by solving the problems of businessmen and industry.

The future of Pakistan is linked to industry and production. The problems faced by Pakistan’s industry are in front of everyone.

Bakhtawari said that if Pakistan is to compete with the production of other neighbouring countries, the electricity tariff has to be brought in line with the regional level.

He said that the ministry wants to link CPEC Facilitation Desk established in Islamabad Chamber with Industry and Production, the Islamabad Chamber is organizing the International Tourism Summit next month for the promotion of tourism in the northern regions.

He said that ” as the president of Islamabad Chamber, as a representative of the business community of the federal capital, I have been demanding from all political parties for a long time that we need political stability, which is not possible without the cooperation of all political parties. The People’s Party started the policy of reconciliation and taking everyone together, everyone needs to promote this policy.”

Govt earmarks Rs 25 bln to educate drop-out children: Ahsan Iqbal

0

ISLAMABAD, Jun 22 (APP):Federal Minister for Planning and Development Prof Ahsan Iqbal on Thursday said the government had earmarked Rs 25 billion for imparting elementary education to drop-out children in the country.

Addressing the Pakistan Learning Conference 2023, he expressed confidence that investing in early childhood education would lead to a significant reduction in dropout rates and enable children to fully utilise their inherent potential.

Ahsan Iqbal underscored that intellectual growth in the early period of children was an essential requisite for their later success and for leveraging the impending available opportunities in their lives.

“The children who receive early childhood education experience lower failure rates, exhibit better academic performance, and are more likely to pursue higher education,” he added.

Ahsan Iqbal stressed that investing in early childhood education was an investment in the nation’s development and future, as the growth and prosperity of a nation depended on the quality of education provided during the crucial phase.

The survival and progress of nations in the modern era were not determined solely by military might but by the quality of their education systems, he stressed.

The minister said classrooms and laboratories, where knowledge was imparted and creativity was nurtured, held the key to a nation’s success.

He called for a shift in priorities, where the allocation of resources and attention to early childhood education should take precedence.

The minister stressed that reflection and innovation were the mainstay for progress that were to be quintessentially nurtured in society.

He added that the Muslim era in Spain was the golden era in Islamic History where the Muslim scientists upheld the injunctions of The Holy Quran to reflect and observe the universe. The decadence befell the Muslim Ummah when they quit to use mental faculties and observation.

He said the government placed high premium on education in Vision 2025 by initiating the projects to reform the education curriculum , training of teachers and aligning the system of examinations according to present day needs.
