FM thanks UN members for endorsing Pakistan for UNSC term 2025-26

ISLAMABAD, Jun 22 (APP):Minister for Foreign Affairs Bilawal Bhutto Zardari Thursday thanked the members of Asia Pacific Group at the United Nations for their support and confidence in unanimously endorsing Pakistan’s candidature to the UN Security Council for the term 2025-2026.

In a tweet the foreign minister said,”I thank the members of Asia Pacific Group at UN in NY for their support & confidence in unanimously endorsing Pakistan’s candidature to the UN Security Council for the term 2025-2026.”
Pakistan was determined to make its contributions while upholding the principles of United Nations Charter, he added.

Govt fully committed to IMF programme: PM

PARIS, Jun 22 (APP):Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif Thursday said the government was fully committed to the ongoing Extended Fund Facility (EFF) of the International Monetary Fund (IMF).


In a tweet he said, it was a pleasure to meet Managing Director IMF Kristalina Georgieva and he had a productive exchange of views with her on the IMF’s continued engagement with Pakistan.


“The government is fully committed to the ongoing Extended Fund Facility (EFF). Though all prior actions for the 9th Review have been completed, we are willing to take further steps jointly with IMF. Pakistan keenly looks forward to IMF Board’s approval for the 9th Review at the earliest,” he said while responding to a tweet of the Managing Director IMF.


The IMF Managing Director had tweeted, “Very pleased to meet Pakistan PM Shehbaz Sharif on the margins of the Paris Summit. We had a fruitful discussion on how the IMF can continue to work closely with Pakistan on policies to maintain macroeconomic stability and advance inclusive growth for the Pakistani people.”

ISLAMABAD, Jun 22 (APP):President Dr Arif Alvi approved the appointment of Shahid Hussain as Rector Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) for another five years.

The President approved the appointment under section 11(1) of LUMS charter 1985.


He also sanctioned the appointment of Saima Amin Khawaja as Trustee Board of Trustees LUMS under section 13(1) of LUMS charter 1985.

Saudi Electricity Company completes preparations for Hajj season

RIYADH, Jun 22 (APP): Under the supervision and follow-up of Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, the Minister of Energy, the Saudi Electricity Company announced the completion of its preparations and the readiness of electrical services in the holy sites, Makkah and Madinah for this year’s Hajj season, following the implementation of a number of new projects, whose cost exceeded SAR1 billion.

According to Saudi Press Agency (SPA) on Thursday, these preparations included establishing conversion and distribution stations and linking them to the interconnected public grid, and automating the distribution network in the holy sites.

The company had developed its plan to provide electricity services during the Hajj season under the supervision and follow-up of the Ministry of Energy and with the direct support and guidance of the Minister of Energy, who, accompanied by the Minister of Hajj and Umrah Dr. Tawfiq Al-Rabiah, yesterday checked on electricity system preparations. Prince Abdulaziz also visited the grid main control centre in Mina, as well as the new Crisis and Disaster Management and Safety Centre.

The prince also checked on the automation projects and modern technologies in the electrical grid, which the Saudi Electricity Company implemented for this year’s Hajj for the first time.

This year, the Saudi Electricity Company’s operational plan in Makkah, Madinah and the holy sites was implemented via 2,123 qualified engineers, technicians and specialists from national competencies.

Pilgrims’ arrivals at custodian of two Holy Mosques from 90 countries completed

MAKKAH, Jun 22 (APP): The arrival of pilgrims benefiting from the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques Hajj and Umrah Guests Program, implemented by the Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Call and Guidance, has been completed on Thursday.

According to Saudi Press Agency (SPA), the pilgrims came from more than 90 countries from different continents, amounting to 1,300 people, in the implementation of the generous Royal Order to host them for this year’s Hajj season 1444 AH.

They were received by the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Call and Guidance, Sheikh Awad bin Sabti Alanzi.

Upon their arrival at their residence in Makkah, the committees operating the program welcomed them, offering them congratulations on their safe arrival and for being chosen as guests of the program, wishing them a pleasant stay, harnessing all capabilities and facilities to ensure them a comfortable Hajj journey, with direct follow-up by the Minister of Islamic Affairs, Call and Guidance, and the General Supervisor of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques Hajj Guests Program Sheikh Dr. Abdullatif bin Abdulaziz Al Al-Sheikh.

The committees operating in the program have been keen to complete the pilgrims’ various travel and arrival procedures, which included transferring them to their residences in Makkah and the holy sites as soon as possible upon their arrival to enable them to perform their rituals with ease and comfort, in addition to preparing and implementing daily programs for the guests at their hosting headquarters in Makkah until they return to their countries.
