Rupee gains 71 paisas against US Dollar in interbank

ISLAMABAD, Jun 27 (APP):Pakistani Rupee on Tuesday gained 71 paisas against the US Dollar (USD) in the interbank trading as it closed at Rs285.99 against the previous day’s closing of Rs 286.70.

However, according to the Forex Association of Pakistan (FAP), the buying and selling rates of dollars in the open market stood at Rs 287.5 and Rs 290 respectively.

The price of the Euro went up by 71 paisas to close at Rs 312.93 against the last day’s closing of Rs 312.22, according to the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP).

The Japanese Yen lost one paisa to close at Rs 1.99, whereas a decrease of Rs 1.05 was witnessed in the exchange rate of the British Pound, which traded at Rs 364.13 as compared to its last day’s closing of Rs 365.18.

The exchange rates of the Emirates Dirham and the Saudi Riyal decreased by 19 pasias each to close at Rs 77.86 and Rs 76.25 respectively.

Kundi lauds interior ministry’s decision of setting up Passport counters in NADRA offices

DERA ISMAIL KHAN, Jun 27 (APP): Minister of State for Poverty Alleviation and Social Safety Faisal Karim Kundi on Tuesday lauded the Interior ministry’s decision of setting up counters for issuing passports at several NADRA centers across the country and demanded for the same facility at Tehsil level in Dera Ismail Khan.

According to a press release issued here, the state minister paid tribute to the interior minister for providing facility of Passport in NADRA offices and termed it a people-friendly initiative.


Faisal Kundi demanded that this laudable facility should also be provided to the residents of far-flung areas of Dera Ismail Khan. He said the facility of passport processing counters should be provided at NADRA centers in Tehsils Daraban, Paroa, Kulachi and Paharpur.


Moreover, the minister demanded of the interior ministry to establish a NADRA office in Paniala.

PAF urges responsible, proper disposal of sacrificial animals’ offals

ISLAMABAD, Jun 27 (APP):The Pakistan Air Force (PAF) on Tuesday urged the nation to ensure responsible and proper disposal of the entrails, offals and remains of sacrificial animals at designated places to ensure safety of the PAF assets from birds’ strike.

The PAF Directorate of Public Relations on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha, released a special promo with the message that the entrails, offal and other remains of sacrificial animals were thrown at unspecified places on the occasion of Eid.

It used to attract the large birds like eagles and vultures who collide with high-speed aircraft and cause havoc, causing loss of aircraft, pilots and precious lives.

Therefore, the public was requested to throw the remains of the sacrificed animals in designated places or bury them in the ground and follow the safety message of Pakistan Air Force on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha.

1282 constables, SPU jawans pass out from Sihala Training College

RAWALPINDI, Jun 27 (APP): A passing out ceremony of 809 recruit constables and 473 Special Protection Unit (SPU) Jawans was held here on Tuesday at Police College Sihala.

Additional Inspector General of Police (IGP) Training Punjab Mohammad Tariq Chohan was the chief guest at the passing out parade. DIG, Commandant Police College, Sihala Rawalpindi, Ashfaq Ahmed Khan also attended the ceremony.
809 recruit constables and 473 SPU jawans received their basic training in the course.
Additional IGP Training Punjab Muhammad Tariq Chohan inspected the parade.

Addressing the participants, the IGP Training said, ”It is an honor for me to be the chief guest in the passing out parade of recruit constables.” He also congratulated all the trainee officials, their parents and relatives.

The management of Police College Sihala deserves congratulations for playing a practical role in the completion of this course, he added.

He asked the constables and jawans to perform professional work with the same spirit exhibited during the training.
The police department plays an important role in maintaining law and order and controlling crime in the country, the Additional IGP said adding, recruit constables are the hallmark of the institution.

The role of constables is key in improving ’thana’ culture, he said adding, they should make all-out efforts to provide relief to the citizens.

The IGP said that the prevention of crime and the protection of the lives and properties of the citizens is the responsibility of the police.

On the occasion, DIG Commandant Police College Sihala Rawalpindi Ashfaq Ahmed Khan said Police College Sihala is the largest training institution of Pakistan which was established in 1959 and so far more than 100,000 officials and officers of law enforcement agencies have received training.

Police College Sihala has the distinction of training the senior ranks as well as the basic rank of police recruit constables who are the face of the department, he added.

The basic principles of discipline and professionalism were kept in mind in training in Police College Sihala, the DIG Commandant Police College Sihala said.

While designing the training, special importance was given to the basic needs of the officers. All the modules had been developed with the guidance and support of the Directorate of Training, keeping in view the fieldwork of the constables which includes character building, legal studies, policing and physical training, he informed.

According to the basic skills of these officers and the vision of the Inspector General of Police, Punjab, they were given practical training in field craft, VVIP protection, anti-riot training, rescue operation course with the support of Rescue 1122, basic computer techniques, Punjab Police (POLCOM) system and special training of mobile forensic, he said.

Taking into account the physical training of these officers, they were also given full training in PT, parade and weapons under his supervision, the DIG Commandant informed.
“I congratulate all the trainee officers, their parents and relatives and pray for their better future,” DIG Commandant said.

PESHAWAR, Jun 27 (APP):A Judge of the Anti-Corruption Court on Tuesday granted bail to PTI leader Ali Muhammad Khan and former KP minister Shakeel Ahmed in corruption cases.

Ali Muhammad Khan was arrested for illegal recruitment in the Mardan Fisheries Department while the former provincial Minister Shakeel Ahmed was accused of illegal recruitment in DHQ Hospital Malakand.

The court accepted the bail applications of both leaders and ordered their release.

PM hopes IMF to take decision about programme's resumption in couple of days

ISLAMABAD, Jun 27 (APP):Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday held a telephonic conversation with Managing Director of International Monetary Fund (IMF) Kristalina Georgieva and discussed matters relating to the IMF programme with Pakistan.

During the talk, the prime minister expressed the hope that the consensus between Pakistan and the IMF on various points would lead to the Fund’s decision to resume the programme in a couple of days.

In the context of her recent meeting with the prime minister in Paris, the IMF managing director acknowledged the efforts of the finance minister and his team for completing the programme.

PM Shehbaz reiterated his resolve to meet the targets of improving the country’s economic situation with joints efforts.

Kristalina Georgieva praised PM Shehbaz’s leadership role in his efforts with respect to the IMF programme.

She said the IMF wanted an improved economic situation of Pakistan.

Journalists vow to become voice of Kashmiris

ISLAMABAD, Jun 27 (APP):Senior Kashmiri journalists here on Tuesday vowed to become the voice of Kashmiris at a time when the media in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) was totally chocked by Indian government and was not allowed to report ground realities.

Speaking at a conference, while pointing out various shortcomings in structuring appropriate narratives on Kashmir, particularly after August 5, 2019, they desired the national media to play proactive role in highlighting Kashmir issue keeping in view the changing global realities and trends.

The conference titled “Pleading the case of Kashmir in Changing Global Realities: Challenges and Opportunities” was organized by Institute of Dialogue, Development and Diplomatic Studies (IDDDS) in collaboration with Riphah International University (RIU).

The conference was aimed at bringing the Kashmir issue in limelight keeping in view the changing regional and global situations.

Speaking on the occasion, Director Riphah Institute of Public Policy, Dr. Rashid Aftab highlighted the need for adapting new trends to make media coverage of Kashmir productive. He said the institute would continue to organize such conference and seminars to formulate comprehensive strategies to promote cause of Kashmir.

On the occasion, Executive Director, IDDDS, Dr. Waleed Rasool said the dynamics of Kashmir changed in post 5th August 2019 when India took the unilateral action to scrap special status of IIOJK and divided the whole state in two separate union territories under direct control of New Delhi.

He said, media in IIOJK was the first casualty of this onslaught adding foreign media was left with no option but to leave Kashmir whereas the local media was put under total censorship. He said, it was now responsibility of national media of Pakistan to work proactively to highlight Kashmir issue.

Speaking on the occasion, columnist and faculty member, Riphah International University, Awais Wasi, who was moderating the conference, said suggestions put forward by journalists in this conference would be properly documented and forwarded to concerned quarters for decisions and policy making.

He highlighted the importance of capacity-building of journalists to help them work more effectively in their domains and make their coverage more comprehensive and dynamic.

Speaking on the occasion, Senior Journalist, Dr. Ashaf said that the national media could not build narrative properly after August 5, 2019 and urged Kashmiri journalists to fulfill their responsibility and play their role in highlighting Kashmiri issue internationally. He said, media should be proactive in such sensitive matters.

Senior Journalists, Abid Abbasi highlighted the importance of media policy, saying that there was not any such policy available particularly to deal with August 5, 2019 issue. Another senior Journalist, Ch. Mudassir said that economic independence of journalists was imperative to help them work freely whereas a senior journalist Kasif Mir said that efforts should be made to reach international audience.

Senior journalists Shahbaz Ahmad, Arshad Ghazi, Shahzad Rathoor, Maqsood Muntazir, Naeem-ul-Asad, Amir Butt Shaukat Ahmed, Latif Dar and Javed Mir also spoke on the occasion. They said, media, particularly Kashmiri journalists should carry forward the case of Kashmir, use all social media platforms and adapt new trends and techniques to promote cause of Kashmiris.
