5G to redefine people’s lives, create an integrated intelligent world: Sabrina Meng

0

SHANGHAI Jun 28, (APP): Sabrina Meng, Huawei’s Rotating Chairwoman and Chief Financial Officer Wednesday said 5G has been in use across all industries and countless households around the world and is changing the way people work and live, creating tremendous economic, industrial, and social value.

At the opening day of Mobile World Congress (MWC) Shanghai, Sabrina Meng, in her keynote address titled “Embracing 5G transformation”, said, “5G has been in commercial use around the world for four years now. It’s driving new value creation, and 5.5G is the next step forward”.

“Science and technology are moving towards large, complex systems. This requires matching technology to specific scenarios and performing systems engineering, in order to pave the way for 5G’s ongoing success.”

5G is creating value along three different fronts, she said adding science fiction can only sketch the future but science and technology can turn imagination into reality.

“For consumers, 5G, cloud, and AI have set off a chain reaction, creating an environment where all buyers can also be sellers. For industries, 5G has become a new driver of productivity. There’s greater alignment than ever between technology suppliers, their partners, and customers and 5G can provide the most value. Strategic patience, in-depth understanding of industrial scenarios, and ongoing improvements to ROI have given 5G a foothold in industrial applications. Moving ahead, 5G will give rise to new devices and applications that deliver a more immersive experience, like 5G New Calling and naked-eye 3D. 5G is also ushering in a new era of super-connectivity between things, bringing new strength to IoT networks and driving new forms of productivity.”
She said, “5.5G is the next step forward for 5G. 5.5G will feature 10-gigabit downlink speeds, gigabit uplink speeds, the ability to support 100 billion connections, and native AI. It will not only connect people better – it will also create incredible new business opportunities with more targeted support for industrial needs in domains like IoT, sensing, and advanced manufacturing.”
“The ladder to success isn’t built on ongoing progress with a single technology,” Meng noted adding, “It’s built on matching technology to specific scenarios and real-world needs. And systems engineering is key to taking the next step up.
The commercial deployment of 5G has created a growing appetite for more groundbreaking, leapfrog innovation. So what will take 5G to the next level, and how will it provide greater value in different vertical markets?”
” This will require finding the right technology for different scenarios and performing more comprehensive systems engineering. This will also require diving deeper into industrial scenarios, truly understanding customers’ pain points, and adopting a more holistic systems engineering mindset. The industry needs to work more closely together both up and down the value chain – with peers and partners, customers and developers – on solution modeling and optimization, as well as tools and methodologies. The industry also needs to pave the way for ongoing success throughout the entire product lifecycle, from R&D and procurement, to supply and marketing,”she opined.
The digital infrastructure of the future intelligent world will be deeply integrated into every aspect of people’s lives, industry, and society, she pointed out, adding, “It won’t be based on advancements in individual technologies, but rather on incredibly massive, complex systems – the convergence of multiple elements. It’s going to require systems-level thinking and design. When watching a chess game, you can see the big picture. But when you’re playing chess, you focus on the details. Likewise, systematic capabilities to integrate technology and transform management are critical for the future success of 5G.”
Meng spoke about two specific types of integrated capabilities. “The first is integrating different technologies. We can achieve greater synergy across cloud, networks, edge, and devices through systematic design and cross-domain innovation. When coupled with optimization across software, hardware, chips, and algorithms, we can address the challenges associated with developing complex solutions for vastly different industrial scenarios.”
“The second,” she continued, “is the ability to integrate different approaches to management. Digital and intelligent transformation is not just about technology itself. It’s more about transforming your approach to management. Going digital requires redefining the relationships between people, events, things, and theory, and adopting a more open, forward-looking management approach to address future challenges.”
Meng concluded: “Information technologies like 5G, 5.5G, AI, and cloud will help us rise with the tide and take us forward to an intelligent world. The best scenery is always ahead. Let’s create a bright future together.”

MWC Shanghai 2023 runs from June 28 to June 30 in Shanghai, China. Huawei will showcase its products and solutions at stands E10 and E50 in Hall N1 of Shanghai New International Expo Centre (SNIEC). Global operators, industry professionals, and opinion leaders, will dive into topics such as speeding up 5G prosperity, striding towards the 5.5G era, and intelligent digital transformation. 5.5G creates new business value in areas like connecting people, Internet of Things (IoT), and Internet of Vehicles (IoV), supporting countless industries as they move towards an intelligent world.

MINA, Jun 28 (APP):A significant number of pilgrims reached Jamarat early Wednesday morning to actively participate in the pebble-pelting to Shaitan (Devil).

Pilgrims collected pebbles from Muzdalifah last night and are making their way to Jamarat bridge for “stoning the devil”.

It is one of the final rites of Hajj, which takes place in a structure with three pillars symbolising the Devil. Every pilgrim should hit one of the three walls of the Jamarat on three different occasions.

After stoning the Shaitan with seven pebbles, also called rami al-jamarat, the pilgrims will proceed to perform the sacrifice.

Following the sacrifice, they will shave or trim their hair, thereby exiting the state of Ihram.

This symbolic act holds great significance, emphasizing their pursuit of righteousness and purification.

Afterwards, the pilgrims will fulfill another essential ritual of Hajj known as Tawaf Ziarah, but this time they will be wearing regular clothing instead of Ihram.

The pilgrims will pelt seven stones at each of the three pillars symbolizing Shaitan on Thursday and Friday (11th and 12th of the Islamic month of Dhu al-Hijja.

Additionally, the pilgrims will continue to reside in Mina, a tent city, during the 11th, and 12th of Dhu al-Hijja, as part of their Hajj pilgrimage.

After performing Rami, the pilgrims will leave from Mina and proceed to Makkah on the evening of the 12th or 13th of the Islamic month of Dhu al-Hijja. Before returning home, the pilgrims will perform Tawaf, a ritual of circumambulating the Kaaba.

For his part, Ministry of Interior’s Security Spokesman announced that irst phase of the Hajj security plan had been implemented successfully following transportation of pilgrims from Makkah to holy sites over past 24 hours.

He said that pilgrims’ ascension to plains of Arafat and their prayers there were performed in complete tranquility and peace after they spent the Day of Tarwiyah in Mina, thanks to the strict implementation of the traffic and organizational plan for the transportation of pilgrims to the holy sites.

The spokesman added that the second phase of the plan was implemented to transport pilgrims from Arafat to Muzdalifah to spend the night there before they would resume their journey back to Mina.

On Wednesday, the pilgrims performed symbolic stoning of Satan at the Jamarat and later went to the Grand Mosque to perform Tawaf Al-Ifadah, the main circumambulation of Kaabah in Hajj.

He commended role of security personnel in implementing the second phase of the Hajj plan which entails organizing traffic and pedestrian movement between Arafat, Muzdalifah, and Mina.

Around 20,000 buses were used to transport pilgrims between Mina and Arafat via 11 routes with the support of more than 42,000 drivers and 195 support vehicles.

The arrival of pilgrims from their countries by air, sea, and land ports was also a smooth process as was their movement between Makkah, Madinah, and the holy sites.

In a record time of an hour before the set time, about 300,000 pilgrims were transported via the Mashaer train. The rest of the pilgrims were transported by more than 20,000 modern buses equipped with all requirements to transport the pilgrims.

During this Hajj season, self-driving buses were also introduced to carry the pilgrims within the holy sites, an experiment with initial results reported to be successful.

Industrial, regional, global collaboration needed for green hydrogen development in China. WEF report

0

BEIJING, June 28 (APP): Green hydrogen is playing a pivotal role in helping China realize its strategic ambition to peak carbon emissions by 2030 and become carbon-neutral by 2060, highlighted a report launched by the World Economic Forum at the 14th Annual Meeting of the New Champions held in Tianjin, China.

The new report, Green Hydrogen in China: A Roadmap for Progress, in collaboration with Accenture and China Hydrogen Alliance, outlines the challenges faced by China’s green hydrogen industry. It identifies six key barriers and goals, related to cost, infrastructure, market demand, industry standards and certification, technology, and evolution and cooperation. To overcome these challenges, the paper proposes 35 enabling measures, to be executed in three phases from now until 2030.

China has defined the end of this decade as the deadline for the country to peak its carbon emissions, and the year 2030 marks the start of in-depth decarbonization in multiple industries. Back in 2022, the National Development and Reform Commission and the National Energy Administration jointly issued Medium- and Long-Term Plan for the Development of the Hydrogen Energy Industry (2021-2035), a 15-year plan to develop the hydrogen energy industry and boost the proportion of such energy generated from renewables, China Economic Net (CEN) reported on Wednesday.

The country produced some 33 million metric tons of hydrogen in 2021, making it the world’s largest producer, and the production is expected to reach 43 million tons by 2030. China Hydrogen Alliance estimated that green hydrogen will take up more in the energy mix, from 1 percent in 2019 to 10 percent by 2030, and the market scale will have increased nearly 30 times by then.

“However, despite the growing focus on green hydrogen in the past few years, challenges of cost, infrastructure and demand are preventing it from making significant contributions to China’s energy transition. As a result, green hydrogen currently makes up a tiny fraction of the country’s hydrogen production and consumption, less than 0.1% in 2021,” reads the report.

With strong policy guidance and incentives, China has the potential to commercialize green hydrogen technologies to transform its industrial system and the wider economy, the report argues. To deliver this new technology at the scale required, China will need to focus on developing the sector through industrial, regional and global collaboration.

“The industry is indeed at an initial stage, yet the public and private sector leaders in China cannot underestimate how catalytic the role of green hydrogen could be,” said Liming Chen, Chair of Greater China, World Economic Forum.

“We need partnerships across sectors, from upstream to downstream, to make sure we accelerate the momentum.”

Helping humanity: Around 3,500 scouts deployed to assist pilgrims during Hajj

0

MAKKAH, June 28, (APP)::The Saudi Arabian Scouts Association (SASA) has managed deployment of more than 3500 scouts hailing from different parts of the Kingdom to assist and support pilgrims to perform their Hajj with ease.

A large number of dedicated individuals, regardless of age or gender, gather in the Holy City and devote their time and energy to support pilgrims.

According to SASA here on Wednesday, the scouts are classified into two age groups: the advanced scout category and the ranger’s category.

The advanced scout category consists of scout members aged between 15 and 17. The ranger’s category comprises individuals aged 18 to 22, including scout leaders (150 of whom are women) and friends and pioneers of SASA.

The scouts help pilgrims by guiding them, assisting them, and ensuring that they reach the holy sites or their designated camps.

The scouts have been distributed among government-related entities, such as the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Commerce, Makkah municipality, Hajj Security Forces, and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Project for the Utilization of Hady and Adahi.

The scouts affiliated with the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah primarily focus on assisting lost pilgrims by providing guidance and directions, ensuring they reach their designated camps safely. This year, there are 150 women among the scout leaders.

Meanwhile, a scout and the general supervisor of the SASA media committee said one of top priorities is to promote essence of volunteerism and foster a sense of national identity among scouts, rangers, and scout leaders.

“We also strive to present a positive and vibrant portrayal of Saudi scouts serving pilgrims.”
The scouts underwent extensive practical training in civil defense, first aid, physical fitness, rescue operations, security awareness, and firefighting.

In collaboration with the Saudi Ministry of Islamic Affairs, the scouts are responsible for coordinating the
pilgrims’ access to the ministry’s offices in the holy sites and distributing Hajj-related books and publications in various languages.

Those working with the Ministry of Commerce are tasked with monitoring the prices and quality of food items available in the holy sites. They also oversee the validity of licenses granted to vendors and cooperate with ministry teams to investigate cases of potential commercial fraud.

The scouts working with the Makkah municipality ensure vendors on site are following all rules. They also work together with the Ministry of Health to help direct pilgrims to healthcare facilities.

The scouts help pilgrims by guiding them, assisting them, and ensuring that they reach the holy sites or their designated camps.

The Islamic Development Bank engages scouts in coordinating the arrival of pilgrims at the slaughterhouses, offering on-the-go guidance, and overseeing the movement of pilgrims from their accommodations to the Jamarat.
