Massive tree plantation at Potohar triangle to increase scenery of city: Saqib Rafiq

RAWALPINDI, Mar 20 (APP):Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) would launch a large-scale plantation and clean-up campaign to build a green belt around Potohar Triangle, Soan Bridge and along the banks of Nullah Lai.
Giving details, President Chamber and Chairman RWMC Saqib Rafiq said the plantation and cleanliness drive aimed to build green belt around this area to increase the scenery of the city.
He said that under the vision of Chief Minister Punjab, Maryam Nawaz, Green Punjab Initiative 2024-27, all the relevant agencies, especially the Forest Department, PHA, started a large-scale plantation campaign in Rawalpindi.
The project will not only beautify the city but will add to the environment of the vicinity.
Saqib informed that an event has been planned on 21st March 2024 at 11:00 am(Potohar Triangle Soan Bridge) to launch the activity.
Youth, especially school students and civil society, local dignitaries, business community and chamber members are being involved in this campaign, he said and added that “if every citizen plants only four trees and patronizes it, one billion trees can be planted in the next two years.”

PMD advises people to take precautionary measures to avert pollen allergy in twin cities

ISLAMABAD, March 20 (APP):Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has advised the citizens to take precautionary measures in wake of the escalating pollen concentration in Rawalpindi and Islamabad areas.
The pollen concentration has started spreading in twin cities due to increase in temperature.The PMD further informed that peak of pollen concentration is expected to observe in twin cities during the last week of March 2024. The people suffering from pollen allergy are advised to take all precautionary measures in this regard.
The most abundant pollen types in Islamabad are Paper Mulberry, Acacia, Eucalyptus, Pines, Grasses, Cannabis, Dandelion and Alternaria. Out of all these species, Paper Mulberry shares about 97 percent of the total pollen count, and its concentration touches the extreme limits of around 45,000 per cubic meter of air, during the peak of the blossom season.

Nowruz is a spring festival and new year celebration named for the Persian word meaning “new day.” It is celebrated all over Asia with a variety of local traditions.
Nowruz is a spring festival celebrated by Parsi community in Iran, Afghanistan, the Central Asian states and parts of Pakistan.
Students, professionals and families from Gilgit-Baltistan, celebrated the Persian New Year Nowruz in twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi with simplicity due to Holy Month of Ramazan. People pray for a successful and prosperous year ahead.
Nowruz has been added to UNESCO’s list of intangible cultural heritage in 2009, while the United Nations through its resolution number 64/253 officially recognized 21st March as International Nowruz Day in 2010. Nowruz is a joint cultural heritage of the world, which promotes coexistence, peace and harmony, as it is celebrated by people of different faiths, ethnicities, nationalities and political orientations.

NCHD, DOPASI foundation collaborate to enhance students health, well-being in federal capital

ISLAMABAD, Mar 20 (APP):The National Commission for Human Development (NCHD) and DOPASI Foundation on Wednesday united their efforts in a landmark partnership to improve students’ health and well-being.
The collaboration seeks to cater to the needs of 17,000 students enrolled in 585 community schools and ALP centers established under the Zero Out-of-School Children campaign in Islamabad Capital Territory during 2023.
The inaugural phase of this crucial programme kicked off in Barakaho, where NCHD Director General Mirza Nasir-ud-Din Mashhood Ahmad led the proceedings. During his visit, he closely inspected the health camp organized by DOPASI, which is geared towards providing comprehensive health services to the young learners.
The students expressed their delight at the initiation of the School Health Programme by the NCHD as it would help address various health aspects affecting the students’ overall well-being.
According to the details, at the health camp, students would undergo thorough examinations for several health conditions. They are being diagnosed for any early symptoms of TB through state-of-the-art Portable X-Ray Machine which bear no hazards. This early detection and management are crucial for preventing the spread of this infectious disease.
The vision impairment, an impediment in learning, is also part of the health camp. Identifying hearing issues of the students would also significantly impact a child’s educational experience. Prompt diagnosis and treatment of skin conditions contribute to overall health; the students are being examined for any skin related diseases.
Assessing nutritional status through Body Mass Index measurements would provide valuable insight paying the way to initiate meal programme for the children in collaboration with different stake holders including Allah Walay Trust and Nutritional International.
This collaborative effort between NCHD and DOPASI would create a healthier and more conducive learning environment for these young students. By coping with health challenges proactively, they intend to empower the next generation with the tools needed to thrive academically and physically.

FM underlines significance of economic-diplomacy to attract investments

ISLAMABAD, March 20 (APP): Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar on Wednesday stressed that in addition to conventional diplomacy, Pakistan needed to prioritize economic-diplomacy in the current circumstances.

In this regard, he said all missions of Pakistan abroad should focus on attracting investments, the foreign minister said while interacting with officers of Pakistan High Commission in London, a press release said.

The foreign minister said that Pakistan was blessed with significant natural as well as high quality human resources.

The country had all the potential to become a great economy provided a coherent approach was adopted to bring fiscal discipline and curtail external deficit, he added.

“The only requirement of the day is to manage these resources in an effective manner,” he stressed.

The foreign minister said that all stakeholders, including line ministries, needed to work hand-in-hand with a team spirit to strengthen Pakistan both internally and externally.

Dar said that Pakistan was undergoing challenging times, however, the incumbent government was committed to provide relief to the common man, adding moreover, on international fronts, Pakistan was engaging with partners for mutual cooperation.

On the occasion, the foreign minister advised the officers to work hard and diligently to bring long-term investments in the country and enhancement of trade.

The foreign minister will be representing Pakistan in the First Nuclear Energy Summit, scheduled to be held in Brussels on March 21.

 

Two terrorists killed as many injured in N Waziristan operation

RAWALPINDI, Mar 20 (APP): Two terrorists were killed and as many injured by the security forces during an intelligence-based operation (IBO) conducted on the night of March 19th and 20th in North Waziristan District. the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) said on Wednesday.

During conduct of operation intense fire exchange took place between the Army troops and the terrorists.

Weapons, ammunition and explosives were also recovered from killed terrorists, who remained actively involved in numerous terrorist activities in the area, the ISPR added.

“Sanitization operation is being conducted to eliminate any other terrorist found in the area as Security Forces of Pakistan are determined to wipe-out the menace of terrorism from the country,” the ISPR said.

PM lauds security forces for thwarting terrorist attack on Gwadar Complex

ISLAMABAD, March 20 (APP): Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday appreciated security forces for thwarting a terrorist attack on Gwadar Port Authority Complex.

The prime minister commended the valour and professional skills of the personnel and officers of the police and security forces.

He also paid tribute to shaheed security forces personnel who laid down their lives during the operation against terrorists, PM Office Media Wing said in a press release.

The brave sons of the soil had been sacrificing their lives for the defence of the country, he added.

The prime minister also expressed his condolences with the bereaved families of shaheed personnel and prayed for the high ranks of the departed souls.

The prime minister appreciated the swift response and valour of the security forces which eliminated terrorists.

He further observed that those trying to target peace in Gwadar, Balochistan wanted to interrupt the process for economic prosperity of the country and efforts at relieving the masses of price hike.

The prime minister, in a statement, also vowed to foil all internal and external conspiracies with the help of people and with the blessings of Allah Almighty.

The entire nation was standing with their armed forces, police and security forces to wipe out the scourge of terrorism, he added.

 

Bilawal condemns terrorist attack at GPA

ISLAMABAD, Mar 20 (APP):Chairman, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has strongly condemned the terrorist attack targeting the Gwadar Port Authority (GPA) Complex and emphasized that the Pakistani nation will resist and respond terrorism in all its manifestations with full force.
According to the press release issued by Media Cell Bilawal House, he said that these cowardly acts of violence aim to undermine the stability and development of Pakistan.
However, he emphasized that the nation refuses to succumb to intimidation or demoralization in the face of such heinous acts. “Instead,” he added, “we draw strength from our unity and determination to forge a peaceful and prosperous future for all Pakistanis.”
Bilawal Bhutto Zardari paid tribute to the brave officers and Jawans who thwarted the attack on the GPA complex.

Zaman Park torture case: ATC issues notice on MPA’s bail plea

LAHORE, Mar 20 (APP):An anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Wednesday issued a notice to the prosecution on a bail petition filed by MPA Hafiz Farhat Abbas of the Sunni Ittehad Council in a case of torturing police officials at Zaman Park, outside the residence of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder.
ATC Judge Arshad Javed conducted the proceedings on a post-arrest bail petition filed by the MPA.
During the proceedings, the petitioner’s counsel submitted that his client was in jail on judicial remand in the case and his custody was no longer required for investigations. He further submitted that his client did not have any link with the case and requested the court to grant him bail.
The Race Course police had registered a case against PTI leaders and workers on charges of throwing a petrol bomb and torturing police officials at Zaman Park.
