Agents involved in making fake ID card arrested: FIA Official

PESHAWAR, Mar 21 (APP): FIA Kohat Zone on Thursday conducted an operation and arrested agents producing fake identity cards.

The agents involved in making fake ID cards were arrested from Main Kohat Road Bannu, the official of the FIA Kohat Zone said.

The raiding team stopped the vehicle near Tezari Chowk, Main Kohat Road, Bannu and three suspects were arrested from the said motor car.

During the search, 20 fake identity cards, a laptop, and printer were recovered from the accused.
Further investigation is underway.

Train crushed a man to death

RAWALPINDI, Mar 21 (APP): A 45-year-old man died after being hit by a train here on Thursday. The incident took place at Dhok Chiragh Din railway track.

According to details, an unidentified man attempted to cross the railway track when a speedy train hit him.

China-Pakistan relationship remains source of peace, stability in region and beyond: Ambassador Hashmi

BEIJING, March 21 (APP): Pakistan takes “immense pride” in its unique and “time-tested friendship” with China. The two countries are not only connected by land, rivers, and mountains, but also by a heart corridor, founded on the shared values of mutual respect, trust, solidarity, and support, said Pakistani Ambassador to China Khalil-ur-Rahman Hashmi.
Hashmi also stressed that as Ambassador of Pakistan to China, he and his team are committed to “implementing the consensus reached between the two countries’ leadership to fortify the strategic trust between the two countries, strengthen ties across multiple domains, and build an even stronger China-Pakistan Community of Shared Future in the New Era.
The Pakistani diplomat made the remarks during an event to celebrate the 84th National Day of Pakistan hosted by the Pakistani Embassy in Beijing. Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Sun Weidong was also present at the event.
“China and Pakistan are good neighbors, good friends, good partners, and good brothers. The ironclad friendship between the two countries, deeply rooted in the hearts of the two peoples, remains rock solid and keeps growing from strength to strength,” Sun said.
“China is glad to see that Pakistan’s general election was smoothly held, and a new government has been formed. We sincerely hope that Pakistan will enjoy social stability and economic growth and open up a new prospect for national development,” he noted.
According to Hashmi, Pakistan and China and the peoples of the two countries have overcome hardships and celebrated triumphs, standing shoulder to shoulder in good and difficult times, in the true spirit of the iron brotherhood.
“Our relationship remains a source of peace and stability in the region and beyond. The China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), a crown jewel of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), stands as a shining testament of win-win cooperation,” he said.
Speaking on the occasion, Hashmi also paid great tribute to Pakistan’s Founding Fathers, especially Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah. Underscoring the significant strides the country has made over the decades across multiple fields, the ambassador highlighted the resilience and ability of Pakistan to bounce back stronger in the face of challenges.
He also recalled the groundbreaking diplomatic initiatives undertaken by Pakistan on the international stage for the promotion of peace, harmony, and development.
The ambassador lauded the contribution of the Pakistani community in the promotion of China-Pakistan ties, while calling for further expansion of business and people-to-people exchanges between the two countries, Global Times reported.
The event attracted several senior Chinese officials, resident ambassadors, diplomats, Pakistani community members, representatives of Chinese state-owned and private enterprises, intelligentsia, and leading media figures.
A troupe of Chinese and Pakistani children also performed at the reception, symbolizing the enduring bonds of friendship between the two countries. Pakistan is the fifth-most populous country with a population of 240 million people, and a rich and diverse cultural heritage spanning over five millennia. Some glimpses of this heritage were on display at the event.

Attaullah Tarar for devising mechanism to counter fake news regarding CPEC

ISLAMABAD, Mar 21 (APP): Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar on Thursday emphasized the need to devise a mechanism at the government-to-government and media-to-media level to counter fake news regarding the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor ( CPEC).

Attaullah Tarar said this during a meeting with the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China, Jiang Zaidong who called on the minister here.

The Chinese Ambassador congratulated Attaullah Tarar on assuming the portfolio of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.

The CPEC, Pakistan-China strategic relations, ongoing cooperation in the media and film sector, and China-Pakistan Information Corridor were discussed in the meeting.

Discussions were held regarding the expansion of cooperation between the two countries in the fields of media and the establishment of the Pakistan-China Information Corridor to prevent fake news about CPEC.

Pakistan highly valued its relations with China, the minister added that both countries were bound by the eternal bond of friendship.

Attaullah Tarar said in 1998, his grandfather Muhammad Rafiq Tarar received the then Prime Minister of China on his visit to Pakistan as President.

“We have seen Pakistan-China friendship from generation to generation. We have to inform our new generation about our historical and strong friendship,” he maintained.

“We have to tell the new generation how China and Pakistan supported each other in difficult times,” the minister said.
Tarar said that China had supported Pakistan at every international forum including Shanghai Cooperation Organization and United Nations.

He opined that a close and sustainable partnership between the two countries in the form of CPEC was in the wider interest of the entire region.

The CPEC was an important milestone in promoting the economic development of Pakistan, Tarar remarked.

“The China-Pakistan Economic Corridor is a framework for regional connectivity that will not only benefit China and Pakistan but will also have positive effects on Iran, Afghanistan, India, Central Asian Republics and the region,” the minister said.

He said that the China-Pakistan Information Corridor would be an important strategic step towards preventing fake news about CPEC as it aimed to harness the power of digital connectivity and information exchange.

The Ministry of Information, he added will continue its work in this regard.

He said it was the vision of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to make Pakistan an investor-friendly country.
In the meeting, the two countries agreed to expand cooperation in the field of film and culture.

“Like China, Pakistan is an ancient civilization with a history of seven thousand years,” Tarar told the Chinese envoy.

He said many spiritual and cultural movements emerged from the Indus Valley of Pakistan that shaped Asian culture.

The ancient Gandhara civilization of Pakistan introduced Buddhism to much of East Asia, including China, he stated.
He said Pakistan and China also jointly organized a Gandhara Buddhist exhibition at the Palace Museum last year.

In the meeting, discussions were also held regarding the advancement of the Sustainable Development Goals agenda between Pakistan and China.

Tarar said that Romina Khurshid Alam was in close contact with China regarding the SDGs project.

The MoU between Pakistan’s official news agency Associated Press of Pakistan and China Media Group (CMG) for the third Belt and Road Forum was also discussed in the meeting.

The minister said that a film production agreement was also under process between the governments of the two countries.

The minister said that the MoU between APP and Xinhua News Agency was in progress.

Cooperation for the joint production of a travel documentary between CGTN and PTV was also discussed by the minister and the Chinese Ambassador.

Tree plantation drive launched in Bahawalpur

BAHAWALPUR, Mar 21 (APP): Chief Executive Officer, District Education Authority, Bahawalpur has inaugurated a tree plantation drive for the Bahawalpur district.

CEO, of District Education Authority, Bahawalpur, Muhammad Akram inaugurated a tree plantation campaign by planting a plant at the premises of the DEA Bahawalpur Office. District Education Officer, Muhammad Shahbaz Tahir and other officials were also present.

Speaking on the occasion, the CEO said that a tree plantation drive had been launched for the district of Bahawalpur.

He said that plants would be planted at all schools across Bahawalpur district in connection with the tree plantation campaign.

Machinery import goes up by 21.43% in eight months

ISLAMABAD, Mar 21 (APP): The imports of the overall machinery group witnessed an increase of 21.43 per cent during the first eight months of the current fiscal year (2023-24) compared to the corresponding period of the last year, the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) reported.

The total imports of the machinery group during July-February (2023-24) stood at $5,044.898 million against the imports of $4,154.465 million during the same period of the last year.

The import of agriculture sector machinery and equipment surged by 96.58 per cent from $26.953 million to $52.983 million; office machinery including data processing equipment 44.23 per cent from $220.796 million to $318.448 million; electricity machinery and apparatus 48.45 per cent from $1,135.552 million to 1,685.707 million; telecom related equipment 102.44 per cent from $ 708.796 million to $ 1,434.853 million; mobile phone 156.43 per cent from $ 447.854 million to $ 1,148.438 million and other apparatus 9.76 per cent from $ 260.942 million to $ 286.415 million.

However, during the period under review, the import of power-generating machinery declined by 28.42 per cent from $374.340 million to $267.951 million; textile machinery by 64 per cent from $ 267.767 million to $ 94.543 million; other equipment by 16.59 per cent from $ 1,358.221 million to $ 1,132.958 million; construction and mining machinery by 7.39 per cent from $ 62.041 million to $ 57.455 million.

Meanwhile, on a year-on-year basis, the machinery group imports increased 64.36 per cent during February 2024 compared to the same month of last year, from $419.727 million to $689.879 million.

On a month-on-month basis, the machinery imports into the country came down by 8.07 per cent during February 2024, compared to the imports of $ 750.444 million in January 2024, according to the PBS data.

Traffic Police imposes challans over rules violation

PESHAWAR, Mar 21 (APP):Chief Traffic Police Officer Dr. Ahadullah Thursday said that they have imposed challans and fines of over 3089 during the month on those violating traffic rules.

Talking to media men, CTO Dr. Ahadullah said that the traffic staff will use all resources to ensure compliance with the rules. Strict action will be taken against violators, said Chief Traffic Officer Dr. Ahadullah.

The use of unregistered vehicles, fancy number plates, and black glasses is prohibited in the city, said Chief Traffic Officer Dr. Ahadullah. Actions are being taken by the City Traffic Police against those using unregistered motorcycles, black glasses, and fancy number plates.

He disclosed that 3089 people were fined under various actions during the blockades by the Traffic Police on duty during the month-long time.

He said, among them 1690 people using black glasses, and 1201 unregistered vehicles, while 198 people were prosecuted for using fancy numbers.

Minister for strict action against profiteers, hoarders

PESHAWAR, Mar 21 (APP):Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Food Zahir Shah Toru has instructed the Deputy Commissioners and District Food Controllers across the province to take stern action against the elements involved in profiteering and hoarding of fruits, vegetables and other food items including meat.

He directed the DCs, Assistant Commissioners and District Food Controllers to closely monitor the prices of food items and ensure the implementation of the official price lists in letter and spirit.

A statement issued here Thursday from his office of the minister, Zahir Shah said due to continuous raids against wholesalers and local vendors the prices of food items have decreased significantly.

The minister warned strict legal action against any officer and official to be found showing negligence in his duty.

He said it was collective responsibility to block the way of adulteration mafia and profiteers, he appealed to the citizens to report to Food Department against such elements so that timely action could be taken.

Weather to remain dry, light rain, partly cloudy skies in upper district

The districts of Chitral, Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Kurram, Khyber, Bataghram, Mansehra and Abbottabad are expected to experience light rain with partly cloudy skies, the official of the Meteorological Department said.
During the last 24 hours, the lowest temperature in Kalam was minus 3 degrees centigrade recorded, the official of the Meteorological Department said. Saidu Sharif recorded 3 degrees Celsius, Malam Jabba and Dir 5 degrees Celsius while Chitral recorded 6 degrees Celsius, the official said. Peshawar recorded a minimum of 12 and a maximum of 30 degrees Celsius, the official added.
