Commissioner for immediate renovation work to revive glory of historic Qissa Khawani Bazaar

PESHAWAR, Mar 25 (APP): Commissioner Peshawar Division Muhammad Zubair on Monday issued instructions to relevant quarters to immediately start the second phase of Peshawar Uplift Program in Qissa Khawani Bazaar to restore its past glory.

Presiding over an important meeting, he recommended installing uniform sized signboards on the pattern of Saddar bazaar and banning display of goods outside the shops on footpaths, adding that the renovation and repairing should be done in the way that the historic design of the buildings might not be affected.

He also emphasized to restrict traffic from entering the bazaar and making it pedestrian specific.
The meeting was attended by SP Traffic Peshawar, Project Engineer Peshawar Uplift Program, Director East Capital Metropolitan Government Peshawar, business leaders of Qissa Khawani Bazaar and other relevant officials.

In the light of the instructions of the provincial government, the meeting discussed various proposals regarding the renovation of the historic Qissa Khawani bazaar and decided a major operation against encroachments on emergency basis within 24 hours.

The meeting decided to rebuild dilapidated sidewalks in a modern style and appoint a permanent municipal official to keep a check on loading and unloading in the bazaar during the day.

Mohsin Naqvi greets Hindu community on Holi

ISLAMABAD, Mar 25 (APP): Federal Minster for Interior and Narcotic Control Mohsin Naqvi on Monday sent greetings to the Hindu community on the festival of Holi.

“Happy Holi to the Hindu community living in Pakistan” he wrote in his message and said that Holi is the festival of colors and colors always last only with love.

He said that the festival of Holi is a wonderful occasion to unite hearts and spread love and harmony because today’s society is suffering from hatred and ugliness.

He said that one should put aside mutual bitterness and join in the joy of this colorful festival.

He further said that the festival of Holi promotes feelings of brotherhood and goodwill and celebrating joyous festivals together promotes love and relationships.

All minorities including the Hindu community are equal citizens of Pakistan, Mohsen Naqvi added.

PDMA releases Rs.348m for TDPs of North Waziristan

PESHAWAR, Mar 25 (APP): The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Monday released an amount of Rs 348 million as monthly financial assistance (sustenance allowance) to the affected families of Operation Zarb Azab in North Waziristan who have not yet returned to their homes.
Each and every verified family will receive it through SIM messaging within a day or two.
In a statement issued by the office of The Director General PDMA Qaiser Khan, it has been said that the said financial assistance is being given to more than 17 thousand families of North Waziristan who are duly certified by NADRA and registered as temporarily displaced persons (TDPs).
On this occasion, Director Complex Emergencies Wing PDMA for merged Tribal Districts Subia Hussam Toru said the recent release is the 114th installment of the series in which each verified family will receive a total of Rs 20,000 as cash assistance and ration allowance.
Subia Hussam Toru further said that more funds of the same amount would be released before Eid to reduce the financial burden of the TDPs so that the homeless people of North Waziristan can also participate in the joys of Ramadan and Eid.

ANF arrests 13 drug smugglers in 13 operations

RAWALPINDI, Mar 25 (APP):Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) in its ongoing operation against drug trafficking managed to recover over 44 kg drugs in 13 operations and arrested 13 suspects, said an ANF Headquarters spokesman here on Monday.
He said that 1.8 kg Ice and 1 kg heroin were recovered from a passenger going to Dubai at Islamabad Airport.
In another operation at Islamabad Airport, 1.8 kg heroin was recovered from a passenger going to Qatar.
In third operation, 1 kg heroin was recovered from a parcel sent to UK at a courier office in Rawalpindi.
In another operation at Islamabad Airport, 135 heroin-filled capsules were recovered from the possession of two passengers going to Sharjah and Jeddah.
700 grams Ice was recovered from a passenger going to Bahrain at Multan Airport and 25 grams Ice was recovered from a passenger going to Sharjah at Karachi Airport.
72 kg opium was recovered from an accused arrested in Sheikhupora while 8.4 kg hashish and 1.2 kg Ice were recovered from Karachi.
7.2 kg hashish was recovered from an accused netted near Haji Camp Peshawar and 7 kg hashish was recovered from an accused rounded up near ‘Tarnol Phatak’, Islamabad.
In two other operations near Sakhi Sarwar Road in Dera Ghazi Khan, 2 kg Ice and 2.4 kg hashish were recovered from three suspects.
2.9 kg heroin and 80 grams Ice were recovered from an accused arrested near Life Care Hospital in Peshawar.
Cases under the Anti-Narcotics Act have been registered against the arrested accused and further investigations are under process.

Rupee gains one paisa against dollar

ISLAMABAD, Mar 25 (APP): Pakistani Rupee on Monday gained 01 paisa against the US dollar in the interbank trading and closed at Rs278.12 against the previous day’s closing of Rs278.13.

However, according to the Forex Association of Pakistan (FAP), the buying and selling rates of the dollar in the open market stood at Rs278.25 and Rs281, respectively.

The price of the Euro decreased by 19 paisa to close at Rs300.84 against the last-day closing of Rs301.03, according to the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP).

The Japanese Yen remained unchanged and closed at Rs1.83, whereas a decrease of 06 paisa was witnessed in the exchange rate of the British Pound, which was traded at Rs350.59 compared to the last closing of Rs350.65.

The Emirates Dirham remained constant to close at Rs75.73 and the Saudi Riyal declined by 01 paisa each to close at Rs74.15.

Inflation, improvement of trade major challenges: Jam Kamal Khan

KARACHI, Mar 25 (APP): Federal Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan on Monday said that the control over increasing inflation and improvement of trade in the country were big challenges for the incumbent government.

He said that the federal government was seriously contemplating the current situation and would address it in the leadership of Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif.

While talking to media during his visit to pay homage to father of the nation Quaid-e-Azam Mohammed Ali Jinnah at the mausoleum, he said that the federal and provincial governments would have to jointly address the challenge of rampant inflation.

He said that the International Monetary Fund (IMF) had set conditions under that the government could not provide subsidy.

The Federal Commerce Minister Jam Kamal Khan said that the governments would have to make efforts for balancing supply and demand chain to provide relief to the people.

He said improvement of trade is a big challenge for us.’ He further said that the Special Investment Facilitation Centre (SIFC) had been established to facilitate the investors and improve the investment process in the country.

Kamal said that Pakistan had to engage with the world. He said that Africa was a big opportunity, which had not been tapped so far.

Replying to a question, he said that they would try to persuade Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) to join the Cabinet. He said that PPP, MQM-Pakistan, National Party and other parties had played their part to form the government.

Answering a question, Jam Kamal said that there were many crises including energy and mismanagement of power in Gas sector.

Earlier, the Minister laid a wreath at the mausoleum of father of the nation Quaid-e-Azam Mohammed Ali Jinnah and offered fateha.

He also prayed for the development of the country and inked his impressions in the visitors’ book.

SIFC gives go ahead for establishing largest IT Park in Islamabad

Negotiations are already underway with key stakeholders such as Pakistan Software Export Board and the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication to ensure the successful execution of the IT Park project. ATC grants bail to Shireen Mizari in May 9 cases

ISLAMABAD, Mar 25 (APP): An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) has granted bail to former federal minister Shireen Mizari in different cases of vandalism and attacks on government buildings related to May 9.

ATC Judge Malik Ijaz heard the bail plea of the former minister on Monday and granted bail against Shireen Mizari’s personal surety bonds.

It may be mentioned that Shireen Mizari was implicated in fourteen different cases related to the May 9 vandalism.

KARACHI, Mar 25 (APP):Five ships namely, MSC Bremen, MSC Lome-V, Bekforest, Paloma and Mackenzie, carrying Container, Canola Seed, Gas oil and Coal, berthed at Container Terminal, Grain Terminal, Oil Terminal and Bulk Terminal respectively on Sunday.
Meanwhile three more ships, MSC Spring-III, Taxidiara and Shiva scheduled to load/offload Container, Cement and LPG also arrived at outer-anchorage of the Port Qasim on today.
Ten ships were engaged at PQA berths during the last 24 hours, out of them three ships, MSC Lome-V, MSC Bremen and Al-Wajbah left the Port on today morning while two more ships, Forshun and Bharadwajare expected to sail on today afternoon.
A cargo volume of 126,368 tonnes, comprising 86,443 tonnes imports cargo and 39,925 tonnes export cargo carried in 3,820 Containers (1,892 TEUs Imports and 1,929 TEUs export) was handled at the port during last 24 hours.
There are 7 ships at Outer Anchorage of Port Qasim, out of them three ships, Nimble Nicky, Solar Roma and Shiva & another ship MSC Mundra-VIII scheduled to load/offload Iron Ore, Palm oil, LPG and Container are expected to take berths at MW-1, LCT, EVTL and QICT on Monday, while four more ships, Maersk Sentosa, X-Press Bardsey, MSC Maeva and Milaha Ras Laffan with container and LNG are due to arrive at Port Qasim on Tuesday.
