ISLAMABAD, Oct 03 (APP): Minister for Railways, Communication, and Maritime Shahid Ashraf Tarar Tuesday said the existing infrastructure, rolling stock, factories, and railway stations will be improved through private sector investments.

He said this while chairing a high-level meeting at the Ministry of Railways to discuss the self-reliance plan of Pakistan Railways.

Shahid Ashraf said that Pakistan Railways is following three pronged strategy to revive and expand railways in the country which include safety, efficiency, and self-reliance.

The minister said that Pakistan Railways has taken several initiatives to cut costs and enhance its revenue.

The improvement in administrative and operational areas are underway in Pakistan Railways which are expected to bring efficiency, he added.

He said that the journey by train is a great means of connecting people living in different regions of Pakistan besides the preferred mode of a comfortable journey for the masses.

Pakistan Open Tenpin Bowling C’ship from Oct 24

ISLAMABAD, Oct 03 (APP): Pakistan Tenpin Bowling Federation in collaboration with Sindh Ten Pin Bowling Association, Pakistan Open Tenpin Bowling Championship would kick off from October 24 in Karachi.

According to President of Pakistan Tenpin Bowling Federation Ijaz ur Rehman, all preparations for the event were completed.

He said male and female players from all over the country would participate in the championship.

Competitions are held in eight categories including open singles, amateur, ladies, under-22, senior, media, doubles and mixed team, he said.

Players who wish to participate in the championship can register their names from October 10 to 20.

The championship would continue till October 29 and prizes will be distributed among the winning players at the end of the championship.

Pakistan moves in Asian Games cricket semis

ISLAMABAD, Oct 03 (APP): Pakistan downed Hong Kong by 68 runs in the 19th Asian Games Men’s Cricket quarterfinals at the Zhejiang University of Technology Cricket Field in Hangzhou, China on Tuesday.

Pakistan would now feature in the second semi-final on Friday, against the winner of the third quarterfinal between Afghanistan and Sri Lanka.

After being put into bat first, Pakistan scored 160 on the board, courtesy of Aamir Jamal’s fiery batting display at death. In the second innings, the Qasim Akram-led spin attack proved too difficult a task for the Hong Kong batters who folded for 92 runs in 18.5 overs.

Nizakat Khan won the toss for Hong Kong and elected to field first. After a bumpy start to the innings, Pakistan eventually ended with a solid total of 160, owing to Aamir’s extraordinary hitting in the final overs of the innings. Coming to bat in the 17th over, Aamir took only 16 balls to score 41 runs, including four maximums and two boundaries.

Earlier in the innings, veteran Asif Ali and debutant Arafat Minhas stitched a partnership of 36 runs from 26 balls for the seventh wicket. Asif (25, 21b, 1×4, 2x6s) and Arafat (25, 16b, 2x4s, 2x6s) were the second highest scorers after Aamir.

Hong Kong had an impressive day with the ball; Ayush Shukla ended the innings with four wickets and Mohammad Ghazanfar grabbed three wickets.

In turn, Pakistan spinners rose to the occasion, allowing the side to completely command the game. The Hong Kong batters fell victim to the web Arafat, Sufiyan Muqeem, Qasim Akram and Khushdil Shah spun around them. Khushdil got three wickets while the remaining three got two wickets each. Babar Hayat was the highest scorer for the side, after making 29 runs in 27 balls, hitting three boundaries and two sixes.

Azerbaijan ambassador meets Health Minister

ISLAMABAD, Oct 03 (APP): Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Pakistan Khazar Farhadov on Tuesday held a meeting with caretake Federal Minister for Health Dr Nadeem Jan.

During the meeting matters of mutual interest, including bilateral cooperation in the field of health, were discussed.

The minister informed the ambassador about the healthcare initiatives being undertaken in Pakistan.

“We are implementing concrete measures to protect the public from diseases and epidemics.”

The minister highlighted ongoing efforts to improve the availability of medicines and the establishment of pharmaceutical parks in Pakistan.

The minister emphasized to utilize technology transfer for molecular manufacturing in Pakistan.

The minister informed that Pakistan was hosting first Global Health Security Summit.

This summit will bring together top health leaders, officials, and technical experts from around the globe.

The Global Health Security Summit and the pharmaceutical park initiatives were lauded by the ambassador.

He said the health leadership of Azerbaijan was expected to reach out Government of Pakistan to discuss these initiatives.

In the field of medicine, both countries will benefit from sharing experiences, and there is cooperation in allowing medical students from both nations to enroll in government-approved universities, the Ambassador said.

CM reviews law & order situation in province

LAHORE, Oct 03 (APP): Punjab Caretaker Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi chaired a meeting at his office to review the steps taken for the protection of life and property of the people in the province.
It was decided that stringent action would be taken against those inciting violence in the name of religion and every possible step will be taken to stop the financing of such elements. Additionally, individuals aiding wrongdoers will face intensified scrutiny, with no exceptions for those operating outside the bounds of the law.
Mohsin Naqvi ordered an organised crackdown on miscreants and criminal gangs, emphasizing that no faction or gang would be permitted to disrupt the peace of the province.
IG police briefed about the law and order situation in the province, along with updates on legal action taken against miscreants. The meeting also paid tribute to the valiant policemen who thwarted a terrorist attack on the Kundal check post in Mianwali.
Provincial Information Minister Amir Mir, chief secretary, ACS, secretary law, ACS (Home), Addl IG (Special Branch), CCPO, secretary prosecution, Addl IG (CTD), high officials and representatives from law enforcement agencies attended the meeting while RPOs participated through video link.

NAP apex body decides to expel illegal foreign residents, act against their businesses, properties

ISLAMABAD, Oct 3 (APP): The Apex Committee of the National Action Plan on Tuesday resolving to expel illegal foreign residents and take strict action against their businesses and properties, constituted a task force to scrutinize and do away with fake identity cards and business activities.

The committee which met here under Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar, also decided to widen the scope of ongoing action against illegal activities like drug smuggling, hoarding, smuggling of currency and eatables, illegal money transfer and power theft, a PM Office press release said.

Attended by Chief of Army Staff General Asim Munir, relevant federal ministers, provincial chief ministers and heads of civil and military law enforcement agencies, the Apex Committee decided that movement at the border would be subject to the passport and visa, in a view to document the processes.

The task force that would work under the interior ministry would help scrutinize the fake identity cards, businesses and properties in order to get rid of the same.

The participants of the meeting reviewed the internal security situation in the country with a view to overcome the challenges durably.

They resolved that despite all odds, the government would ensure implementation of the constitution and the law as per the public aspirations.

The forum reiterated that the use of force was only the state’s mandate and no individual or group would be allowed to use the same. Besides, there was no room for armed political organisations or groups and the people involved in such activities would be dealt away with strictly.

In the meeting, it was also highlighted that Islam was a religion of peace and the state would never allow anyone to interpret the religion just to serve own political interests.

The rights and religious freedom of the minorities were the component of Islam and Constitution of Pakistan and the state would ensure their provision.

The Apex Committee stressed that those spreading propaganda and disinformation should be dealt with strictly under cyber laws.

The participants were informed that technical procedures were being devised for the awareness and implementation of the laws, which were being promulgated keeping in view the observance of the law and the convenience of the people.

The forum reiterated its resolve that the principles of faith, unity and discipline would be followed in the true spirit and tireless efforts would be continued for the development of the country.

CM directs best medical assistance to fire victim

QUETTA, Oct 03 (APP): Caretaker Chief Minister Balochistan Mir Ali Mardan on Tuesday directed  health department to ensure the best medical facilities to all the affected girls of the private educational academy.
“A report should be submitted after determining the causes of  fire in the private academy,” the chief minister said, directed to ensure safety measures in all private and public educational institutions including the affected academy.
Meanwhile, Dr. Muhammad Ishaq Panizai, Medical Superintendent Civil Sandeman Hospital told media that thirty-six girls were affected in the incident.
“Immediate medical aid is being provided to the affected girls,” he said, and added that the condition of all the affected girls was out of danger.

PSX witnesses bullish trend, gains 129 points

ISLAMABAD, Oct 3 (APP): The 100-index of the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) witnessed bullish trend on Tuesday, gaining 129.72 points, showing positive change of 0.28 per cent, closing at 46,756.80 points against 46,627.08 points the previous day.
A total of 213,188,395 shares valuing Rs 6.094 billion were traded during the day as compared to 202,598,801shares valuing Rs 7.404 billion the previous day.
As many as 326 companies transacted their shares in the stock market; 142 of them recorded gains and 154 sustained losses, whereas the share price of 30 companies remained unchanged.
The three top-trading companies were WorldCall Telecom with 60,699,742 shares at Rs 1.25 per share, Cnergyico Pk with 19,001,237 shares at Rs 3.28 per share and Oil and Gas Dev. With 9,902,658 shares at Rs 98.55 per share.
J.D.W. Sugar witnessed a maximum increase of Rs 23.75 per share price, closing at Rs 388.75, whereas the runner-up was Pak Hotels with a Rs 20.72 rise in its per share price to Rs 297.04.
Unilever Foods witnessed a maximum decrease of Rs 70.00 per share closing at Rs 20,480.00, followed by Sanofi Aventis with a Rs 43.00 decline to close at Rs 657.00.
