Planning Minister asks ministries, divisions to expedite work on CPEC projects
ISLAMABAD, Sep 22 (APP): Caretaker Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Muhammad Sami Saeed on Friday asked all the ministries and divisions to expedite work on the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) projects.
The minister said this while chairing a meeting to review the progress made over the CPEC projects, a news release said.
The meeting was attended by the Chief Economist of Pakistan and representatives of the various ministries and divisions.
During the meeting, the minister was apprised about the progress of the CPEC projects particularly after the 12th Joint Cooperation Committee (JCC) meeting held in July 2023.
The CPEC agreement was signed between Pakistan and China on July 5, 2013.
The representatives of various ministries and divisions gave a detailed briefing on the implementation status of their respective projects in different sectors like Energy, Infrastructure, Information Technology, Gwadar International Airport, Special Economic Zone (SEZs) and other key areas.
In the early harvest projects of CPEC, as many as six mega infrastructure projects were completed including the Havelian-Thakot section of KKH, Multan-Sukkur (M-5) Motorway, Hakla-D.I.Khan Motorway, Optical Fiber Cable, Eastbay Expressway and Orange Line Metro Train.
Furthermore, on the western alignment of CPEC, work on different sections is under implementation which would be completed by 2024.
Since most of these highways pass through the far-flung areas of Pakistan, it has opened those areas for business which would bring prosperity.
During the meeting, it was further informed that the meeting of Joint Working Groups (JWGs) on (Infrastructure) will be held next week to review the projects.
The minister also asked the relevant ministry to expedite the work on Special Economic Zones (SEZs) which include Rashakai Special Economic Zone, Dhabeji Special Economic Zone; Allama Iqbal Industrial City; Bostan Special Economic Zone; ICT Model Industrial Zone; Industrial Park on Pakistan Steel Mill Land; Mirpur Industrial Zone; Mohmand Marble City and Moqpondass Special Economic Zone.
Similarly, during the meeting, a briefing was also given on the upcoming Belt & Road Forum to be held in China.
The CPEC enters a significant milestone as it celebrates a decade of remarkable achievements in fostering economic growth, infrastructure development, and regional connectivity.
The year 2023 marks the Decade of CPEC and the strong partnership between Pakistan and China.
Accordingly, both Pakistan and China are celebrating 10 Years of Belt & Road Initiatives (BRI) and CPEC from July 5 2023.
Recently, the Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng visited Pakistan and attended a ceremony to mark 10 years of the CPEC project.
Pakistani political parties’ delegation visits Beijing
BEIJING, Sept. 22 (APP): A 14-member delegation of political parties of Pakistan has visited China at the invitation of International Department, Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC).
The delegation comprised of representatives from PPP, PML-N, JUI-F, NDM and some other political parties held a meeting with Chairman of China Shield Consulting Service Co. Ltd. Luo Ying in Beijing.
Cheng Xizhong, Visiting Professor of Southwest University of Political Science and Law, who is also former Defense Attaché in South Asian countries and Senior Adviser of China Shield Consulting Service Co. Ltd. told APP that the two discussed matters of mutual interest in a very warm and friendly atmosphere.
Chairman Luo Ying warmly welcomed the delegation and wished for the ever-lasting friendship between China and Pakistan.
At the same time, he gave a brief introduction about the security business in Pakistan, emphasizing that only by working jointly China and Pakistan could achieve ideal results in ensuring personnel and project security.
Both sides also had extensive exchanges on China-Pakistan relations, the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), and the regional security situation.

No other country rivals China in sports management: Pakistan’s volleyball squad captain
BEIJING, Sept. 22 (APP): “I believe that there will be an amazing experience. And I’d like to thank the Chinese government to give us a chance to play in this amazing facility,” said Issanaye Ramires Ferraz, Pakistan’s Brazilian volleyball coach.
This is Issanaye’s first visit to China and he’s got very excited. “Our preparation is going very well, and I hope we will play every match till the final,” Issanaye said, adding that “I don’t like to say that we have one great player. We have team work. That is our philosophy. We will work as a team to give Pakistan a high performance and get good results,” he told China Economic Net.
“Before this, we have played the Asian Men’s Volleyball Championship. Compared to that, our team is fit now, in terms of ball skills and physical fitness. Our head coach is also satisfied with our training. We expect to stand on the victory stand,” said Mubashir Raza Watto, captain of Pakistan’s national volleyball team.
“We went to China for the World Military Games. We got a bronze medal. If I talk about the management of China, their management is very good, in terms of food, in terms of accommodation. They treat us very well. In terms of sports, I don’t think there is a better country than China that manages it so well,” Mubashir added.
The men’s and women’s volleyball competitions started on September 19 and will last through October 7 across four venues in Hangzhou, China.
Pakistan’s biggest achievement in the Asian Games volleyball history is their third-place finish in the 1962 Jakarta Asian Games. In the last Asian Games held in Indonesia in 2018 Pakistan finished eighth.

PPAF’s Olive Processing Unit processes first batch of olives successfully
ISLAMABAD, Sep 22 (APP): The state-of-the-art olive processing unit, established by the Pakistan Poverty Alleviation Fund (PPAF) in the Lower Dir district, has successfully processed this season’s first batch of olives, yielding an impressive 12% oil ratio.
According to the PPAF, the unit has been established in Lower Dir district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with funding from the Italian Government through the Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS) under the Programme for Poverty Reduction (PPR).
As the season progresses, this ratio will increase to 18 percent, resulting in an average income of Rs. 36,000 for every 18 litres of oil produced from 100 kg of olives. This project has succeeded with the support of the on-ground partner Sarhad Rural Support Programme (SRSP).
Lower Dir is rich in olive cultivation and the provision of an oil pressing unit has played a significant role in revitalizing the olive value chain. This initiative is creating sustainable livelihood opportunities for local producers while boosting their income.
Olive oil offers numerous benefits for health as it helps improving the cardiovascular system, reduction in depression risk, maintain healthy cholesterol levels and curing Alzheimer’s disease.
Olive oil also helps in preventing stroke, reducing breast cancer risk, protecting from ulcerative colitis, curing acute pancreatitis, and strengthening bones.

President appoints Dr Amjad Saqib as Chairman BISP
ISLAMABAD, Sep 22 (APP): President Dr Arif Alvi on Friday gave approval to the appointment of Dr Amjad Saqib as the Chairman of the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP).
The appointment was made in accordance with Section 5(3) of the Benazir Income Support Programme Act 2010, the President’s Office said.
