ICCI, IBECHS to establish Expo Centre in federal capital

ISLAMABAD, Oct 10 (APP): The Intelligence Bureau Employee’s Cooperative Housing Society and Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) have agreed for the establishment of a state-of-the-art Expo Centre in the federal capital with joint efforts.

In this regard, the IBECHS hosted a reception in the honor of delegation of Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) here Tuesday.

Both sides held fruitful discussions to move forward

Speaking on the occasion, Tariq Mehmood, President, Intelligence Bureau Employee’s Cooperative Housing Society said expo centers play an important role in promoting exports and attracting investment. He said that the Expo Center as a joint venture of Gulberg Green and ICCI in the Federal Capital would provide permanent exhibition facilities to encourage buyer-seller interaction and promoting trade and exports.

He asserted that this project of national importance would go a long way in improving the economy.

Tariq Mehmood said that the Expo Centre would make the federal capital a hub of business and investment activities and stressed the value addition of products to boost exports and revive the economy. He said that Gulberg Green was situated at an ideal location and many new development projects would be completed here. He was optimistic that the Expo Center would open up many new avenues for promotion of business, investment and exports.

Ahsan Zafar Bakhtawari, President, Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry said that the partnership between ICCI and Gulberg Green for the Expo Centre was a step in the right direction to improve the economy as this permanent facility would showcase the exportable products of Pakistan and boost exports.

He said that many countries including China and Turkey have increased their exports and tourism by organizing expos and hoped that this Expo Center would also help enhance exports and tourism in Pakistan. He said that Pakistan has great potential to boost exports and expressed hope that the expo center would contribute positively towards achieving this goal.

The President ICCI said that the Chamber has been making efforts since long for the establishment of a new industrial estate in the region and it is ready to work with Gulberg Green for materialization of this important project.

He said that ICCI would also like to set up JVs with Gulberg Green for many other projects including industrial estate, hospital, university and college.

Barjees Tahir criticizes alleged ‘revenge’ against Nawaz Sharif

ISLAMABAD, Oct 10 (APP):Former Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, often regarded as a symbol of Pakistan’s prosperity, endured unjust punishment for alleged wrongdoings he did not commit as actions taken against Nawaz Sharif were motivated by a sense of revenge, former minister Barjees Tahir said on Tuesday.
Addressing a press conference, he stated that extending a warm welcome to Nawaz Sharif represents an acknowledgment of Pakistan’s journey towards progress and prosperity, recognizing the substantial sacrifices he has made for the nation’s advancement.
Flanked by former Prime Minister of Azad Kashmir Raja Farooq Haider, Shah Ghulam Qadir and several Kashmiri leaders at the National Press Club, Barjees declared that Nawaz Sharif would receive an enthusiastic welcome.
He mentioned that the leadership of Azad Kashmir had demonstrated resilience during challenging times since 2021. He also noted that the ongoing preparations within Azad Kashmir for Nawaz’s welcome were highly commendable.
He stated that Nawaz Sharif granted authority to the people of Azad Kashmir and it was heartening to see the passion and enthusiasm among them to welcome him.
He mentioned that under the leadership of Raja Farooq Haider Khan, the Muslim League-N demonstrated excellent performance. Additionally, in Azad Kashmir, PML-N has translated Nawaz Sharif’s vision into actual achievements.

President for greater collaborations to improve recovery of missing children

ISLAMABAD, Oct 10 (APP): President Dr Arif Alvi on Tuesday called for greater collaborations among the civil society, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), national and provincial government departments to raise awareness about the issue of abducted and missing children.
He said that steps should be taken to ensure the implementation of Zainab Alert Response & Recovery Act (ZARRA) 2020 throughout the country to protect and safeguard our children.
The president expressed these views while chairing a meeting regarding the implementation of Zainab Alert Response & Recovery Act (ZARRA) 2020, at Aiwan-e-Sadr, President Secretariat Press Wing said in a press release.
The meeting was attended by Secretary Ministry of Human Rights Allah Dino Khowaja, Director General ZARRA, representatives of different NGOs working for children’s rights, and senior government officials.
During the meeting, the president emphasised the need for awareness at the grassroots levels about the ZARRA Act and responsibility of police officials to ensure timely registration of complaints and FIRs about the missing children.
He also called for raising awareness about the ZARRA helpline “1099” among the people to timely register complaints.
The president said that response time of the local police to missing children’s complaints should be improved and they should take prompt action to find missing children as the first 24 hours after a child’s disappearance were critical for their recovery.
He called for increasing cooperation among the civil society and government departments to protect and recover missing children, besides providing psycho-social counselling to affected children and their families.
During the meeting, the president highlighted the need for further improving the implementation of ZARRA Act by identifying gaps and shortcomings in its implementation at the provincial and district levels.
He said that after taking input and advice from civil society and NGOs, corrective measures should be taken to bring about improvements.
The president said that ZARRA’s coverage should be extended to the entire country by allocating adequate resources and creating awareness among the people.
He also called for ensuring better management of alerts and complaints about missing children on 1099 helpline, PM Citizen Portal and ZARRA app by ensuring 24/7 service to the complainants.

Solangi lauds Pakistan Sweet Home’s services for orphans & needy childern

The minister, in a meeting with Zamarud Khan, acknowledged Pakistan Sweet Home’s role in providing protection, quality education, and effective grooming to marginalized segments of society.

Solangi said the children who received education from the organization had excelled in every aspect of life.

Zamarud Khan, while expressing his gratitude, said Pakistan Sweet Home had successfully achieved its objectives by imparting modern education to the children under its care.

Meeting held in bid to smooth traffic flow, law enforcement to prevent road accidents

RAWALPINDI, Oct 10 (APP):Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Rawalpindi Taimoor Khan chair a meeting at Traffic Headquarters in a bid to further improve traffic flow and law enforcement to prevent road accidents.
All circle in-charges including branch in-charges and traffic wardens participated in the meeting, said in a press release here on Tuesday.
CTO Rawalpindi reviewed the performance report of all the circle in-charges and also announced a reward for conducting successful operation against encroachments and to maintain flow of traffic.
Khan also assigned special tasks to all circle in-charges regarding the provision of licensing facilities in colleges, universities, government and private institutions in their circles.
CTO said that strict action will be taken against the motorcyclists without helmets.
In addition to take strict action against lane violations, overspeeding, and negligent and careless driving, citizens should also be made aware of traffic rules, and road safety, he added.

FM Jilani arrives Azerbaijan to attend COM- ECO

ISLAMABAD, Oct 10 (APP): Caretaker Foreign Minister Jalil Abbas Jilani on Tuesday arrived in Shusha, Azerbaijan to attend the 27th Meeting of Council of Ministers (COM) of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO).
Foreign Minister Jilani will address the Council of Ministers (COM) and hold bilateral meetings with participating ministers of member states and other dignitaries on the sidelines of the event, the Foreign Office Spokesperson said in an earlier press statement.
At the 27th COM, the member states will discuss the promotion of sustainable economic development of the ECO region through trade and economic cooperation and mutual assistance in social, cultural, technical and scientific fields. The Theme of this year’s event is “Green Transition and Interconnectivity”.
As the policy-making forum of the ECO, the Council of Ministers approves the decisions and annual work plan of the Organization, it was added.
As a founding member, Pakistan remains strongly committed to ECO’s aims and objectives and has remained at the forefront of all major ECO initiatives/agreements such as the ECO Trade Agreement (ECOTA) and the ECO Transit Transport Framework Agreement (ECOTTFA), the spokesperson said.

President for free & fair polls inclusive of all political parties

ISLAMABAD, Oct 10 (APP): President Dr Arif Alvi on Tuesday stressed giving opportunity to all political parties to run the upcoming general elections.

“Democracy becomes meaningless if people are not able to elect leaders of their choice”, he said.

The president expressed these views while talking to the former federal minister and Senator, Muhammad Ali Durrani, who called on him here at the Aiwan-e-Sadr.

President Alvi said the upcoming general elections should be free, fair, transparent and inclusive.

He emphasized that all political parties and their leadership should be given equal opportunities to participate in the election process to strengthen democracy in the country.

The president was of the view that there was a dire need for political, institutional and stakeholder unity in the country to battle the difficulties on all possible fronts, including that of economy.

“Bitterness must end and give way to cooperation and forgiveness”, he said.

He stated that difficult decisions needed backing of the people and their participative ownership.

He said the forthcoming general elections provided a good opportunity to create the vibrancy needed to rebuild our country.

The president also appreciated the statements given across the spectrum by all political leaders that there should be a level playing field as only this single issue of inclusivity was the essence of democracy.

Five illegal arm holders, drug dealers arrested

RAWALPINDI, Oct 10 (APP):Police have arrested 05 illegal arm holders, drug dealers and recovered arms, and ammunition from their possession during crackdown here on Tuesday.
According to police spokesman,  Gujjar Khan police recovered a rifle MP5 from Akhlaq and also recovered 1070 grams charas  from Jafar while the same quantity was recovered from  Jahanzeb.
Similarly, Dhamyal police nabbed Naeem and recovered 01 pistol 30 bore from his possession.
While, Civil Line Police held Siraj and recovered 01 pistol 30 bore from his custody.
Police have registered separate cases against all of them and started further investigation.
SSP Operations Faisal Saleem appreciated the performance of the police team and said that action will be continued against those who possess illegal weapons.

Caretaker Govt to ensure free, transparent elections: Solangi

ISLAMABAD, Oct 10 (APP): Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Murtaza Solangi on Tuesday said the caretaker government would ensure free, transparent and impartial elections in a peaceful and conducive environment.

In a meeting with former Member of Provincial Assembly, former spokesperson of Balochistan Government and senior politician Farah Azim Shah, he said development and welfare of Balochistan was a priority of the caretaker government.

The caretaker Information Minister said there would be no comprehensive progress of the country without the development of Balochistan province.

They discussed the overall political situation of country, especially Balochistan including the elections.

Farah Azim Shah expressed full confidence in the leadership and initiatives of Caretaker Prime Minister
Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar.

She also lauded the economic and administrative policies of the caretaker government.
