PUC urges judiciary to swiftly bring May 9 tragedy’s perpetrators to justice

LAHORE, May 9 (APP): Pakistan Ulema Council (PUC) Chairman Hafiz Muhammad Tahir Mehmood Ashrafi on Thursday, declaring the tragedy of May 9 as the most grievous in the annals of Pakistan’s history, urged the judiciary to swiftly bring the perpetrators to justice and to release the unjustly detained.
Addressing a press conference accompanying with Mufti Syed Naseem Islam, Maulana Qari Mubashir Rahimi, and other dignitaries, he said ‘Pakistan Stability Day’ would be observed nationwide on Friday.
During Friday sermons, Ashrafi said esteemed scholars and religious leaders would emphasize the imperative of unity between the Pakistan Army and the citizenry for the preservation of Pakistan’s security, stability, and unity, while unequivocally denouncing the events of May 9.
He expressed disappointment that the judiciary had yet to prosecute individuals for whom evidence was unequivocal.
He emphasized the necessity of thorough investigation into the root causes and agents fostering division within the nation and the armed forces, sowing discord in the country, and instigating political violence.
Ashrafi highlighted the virtue of humility and accountability, stating that acknowledging and rectifying mistakes exemplify true leadership.
He intends to urge the leadership of Tehreek-e-Insaf to pursue negotiation over obstinacy.
The individuals responsible for setting ablaze, and creating chaos on May 9 were deemed as perpetrators of national criminality, he said questing that is it permissible for any faction, organization, or individual to incite conflagration upon the nation’s vital defense installations, subjecting them to destruction?
He emphasized that Pakistan was poised for economic advancement, and political stability was imperative in this trajectory.
He said the national leadership must step forward to fulfill its duty in fostering such stability.

Citizens foil attack of May 9 on state: Ahsan Iqbal
ISLAMABAD, May 9 (APP): Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives, Professor Ahsan Iqbal said on Thursday that an attempt to attack the state of Pakistan with foreign funding on May 9, 2023 was successfully thwarted by the people of Pakistan.
According to a press statement issued by the Planning Ministry, Ahsan Iqbal said the attackers desecrated the Quaid’s monument, vandalized the martyrs’ memorials, burned down the Peshawar radio station and destroyed records of the Pakistan Movement preserved there.
They also launched an assault on Pakistan Army bases, he said adding such heinous crimes were unpardonable in any country.

LG & CD deptt organizes awareness walk under “Suthra Punjab” programme
SAHIWAL, May 09 (APP): On the directions of Secretary Local Govt and Community Development (LG&CD) Department Punjab Shakeel Ahmad an awareness walk organized under the “Suthra Punjab” Programme on Thursday.
According to the Focal person LG and CD Department Dr M Abdullah Tabassum the walk started from Commissioner Office and culminated at District Council Office.
Addressing the participants Director Local Government Dr Saif Ullah highlighted the “Suthra Punjab” program initiated by Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz as a landmark endeavor. This programme aimed at to extend integrated sanitation efforts to villages marking a significant step for promoting cleanliness throughout the region.
On the occasion Dr. Muhammad Abdullah Tabassum emphasized the crucial role both local government employees and citizens play in keeping cities clean. He stressed without everyone’s cooperation maintaining cleanliness was impossible. He urged the residents to keep their surroundings clean and dispose of garbage properly.
In essence the drive for cleaner cities in Punjab is not just a government initiative; it is a collective responsibility that requires the active participation of every citizen.
The awareness walk attended by various officials including Special Secretary LG, Asiya Gul, Director LG, Dr Saif Ullah, Deputy Director LG, Akram Khan, Chief Officer LG, Sheikh Ashfaq Ahmad, Chief Officer District Council, Payam Ghani and others.
