CARGO HANDLING TURNOVER:
The total cargo handled at Karachi Port during the last 24 hours closed at 169,916  Metric Tons. The breakup shows that the port has handled 57,239 Metric Tons of export cargo and 112,677 Metric Tons of import cargo during the said period. Commodity-wise handling in metric tons is given below.

Rupee gains 20 paisa against Dollar

ISLAMABAD, Dec 1 (APP): Pakistani Rupee on Friday gained 20 paisa against US Dollar in the interbank trading and closed at Rs 284.96 against the previous day’s closing at Rs 285.16.

However, according to the Forex Association of Pakistan (FAP), the buying and selling rates of the Dollar in the open market stood at Rs 285.35 and Rs 287.9 respectively.

The price of the Euro decreased by Rs 1.88 to close at Rs 310.49 against the last day’s closing of Rs 312.37, according to the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP).

The Japanese Yen lost 02 paisa to close at Rs 1.92; whereas a decrease of Rs2.12 was witnessed in the exchange rate of the British Pound, which traded at Rs 360.05 as compared to the last closing of Rs 362.17.

The exchange rates of the Emirates Dirham and the Saudi Riyal decreased by 06 and 05 paisa to close at Rs 77.59 and Rs 75.96 respectively.

87 new cases of dengue in Punjab

LAHORE, Dec 01 (APP): Punjab remains in the clutches of the dengue virus with 87 new cases reported on Friday.
The latest health department data reveals a total of 14,258 confirmed cases in the province.
Lahore leads with 6,494 cases followed by Rawalpindi, 2,626, Gujranwala 1,512, Multan 1,365, and Faisalabad 842.
The situation persists with Lahore reporting 44 new cases, Rawalpindi two , Gujranwala 20,
Multan five and Faisalabad 13 cases. Additionally, Sheikhupura, Sahiwal, and Jhang each
reported one case within 24 hours.
Currently, 94 Dengue patients receive treatment in various hospitals with 53 in Lahore district
hospitals.
Health Secretary Ali Jaan Khan urges citizens to maintain clean surroundings and cooperate
with health teams combating the outbreak.
For Dengue-related assistance or complaints, a free helpline is available at 1033. Vigilance and proactive measures are crucial to end dengue in Punjab.

Consortium of Artificial Intelligence, Emerging Technologies and Vaccination Development to be created

ISLAMABAD, Dec 1 (APP): COMSTECH-the OIC Standing Committee on Scientific and Technological Cooperation, in its first annual progress review meeting of Consortium of Excellence, decided to establish a consortium of artificial intelligence, emerging technologies and vaccination development.

In the meeting held here on Friday, there was an intensive discussion session in which the heads and representatives of the member universities participated and tabled a host of result-oriented recommendations for certain programs as part of the future plan of action.

It was deliberated and resolved to offer courses in healthcare entrepreneurship, blended academic programs in medical sciences and, for enhancing inter-university collaboration, offer scholarships, joint degree programs, and open new campuses and sign a memorandum of action.

Coordinator General COMSTECH, Prof. Dr. M. Iqbal Choudhary, earlier in his address, gave a comprehensive presentation on the achievements of the consortium.

He said today’s meeting is a felicitation and recognition ceremony of the contributions of the CCoE member institutions, which have contributed immensely to achieve the objectives of the consortium.

Prof. Choudhary mentioned that the consortium comprises over top universities which represent the finest academic and research institutions of the OIC world, and the generosity, vision, academic excellence and research achievements of these institutions are nationally and internationally recognized.

Prof. Choudhary informed that the concept of creating an alliance of finest institutions of the OIC emerged from a very intensive and thought-provoking discussion between the top intellectual and education experts.

He said that it was envisaged that COMSTECH being the only inter-governmental organization, hosted by Pakistan should deploy excellence in the OIC region for the benefit of the youth of the Ummah.

Accordingly, the alliance was created and given an appropriate name “COMSTECH Consortium of Excellence”.
Prof. Choudhary appreciated the contribution of the CCoE member institutions and said that your willingness to open your doors for the education and training of young students and scholars from Muslim countries and Muslim minorities in non-OIC countries is exemplary by all definitions.

The representatives of Islamic University of Technology, Bangladesh, TUBITAK, Turkey, Universitas Airlangga, Indonesia, Kazan Federal University, Tajikistan, Agence Nationale de la Recherche Scientifique et de l’Innovation (ANRSI), Mauritania, International Islamic University Islamabad, International Center for Chemical and Biological Science, University of Karachi, Lahore University of Management Sciences, University of Lahore, Ibadat International University, Quaid-i-Azam University, Health Services Academy, Islamabad, University of Sialkot, Superior University, Kohsar University Murree, National University of Science and Technology, Khawaja Fareed University of Engineering and Information Technology, Government College University Lahore, Sindh Agriculture University, Tandojam and the University of Sargodha participated in the meeting.

NCP goods worth over Rs 13.8 m seized in DI Khan

DERA ISMAIL KHAN, Dec 01 (APP):The district police, during a crackdown against smuggling of non custom paid (NCP) items, have seized goods worth over Rs 13.8 million in actions taken in different areas.
According to the Police spokesman, following the directions of District Police Officer Abdul Rauf Babar Qaisrani, the operations against smugglings of NCP goods were continued across the district.
A team of Mughalkot police team led by SDPO Darazinda Circle Sher Ullah Khan along with SHO Rehmat Ullah Khan stopped a truck bearing registration number (FDD-9555) coming from Quetta. During the checking, the police recovered 115 sacks ‘Chalia’ and 10 sacks of Chinese Salt. The estimated worth of these recovered items was around Rs 13.25 million.
Similarly, the Dera Town police team led by SDPO Saddar Circle Sher Ullah Khan along with SHO Malik Sajid during routine patrol stopped a ‘Datson Dala’ bearing registration number (B-1620) and recovered 17 sacks of Iranian Plastic bags after found them NCP.
The estimated worth of these recovered NCP Iranian plastic bags is Rs 0.55 million.
Later, all the recovered NCP goods were handed over to the customs authorities for further legal action.

 

Mushaal Mullick briefs UK Parliamentarians on human right violations in IIOJK

ISLAMABAD, Dec 01 (APP): Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Human Rights and Women Empowerment, Mushaal Hussein Mullick Friday attended a meeting of cross-party British Parliamentarians, convened by Member Parliament, Chairperson APPG on Jammu & Kashmir, Debbie Abrahams at a virtual platform from London.

Besides British Parliamentarians, members of the civil society and human rights organisations also participated in the virtual debate, which circled around the state of human rights affairs in Illegally Indian Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).

Mushaal Mullick briefed the parliamentarians about human rights abuses by the Indian government in the occupied valley.

She particularly raised the issue of gross violations of human rights against women and children in IIOJK.

The special assistant urged the international community to take notice of the treatment of minorities, particularly the forced conversions of the Christian and other minorities under the RSS ideology, inside India.

Mushaal said that Kashmiris were deeply concerned over attempts to alter the demographics of IIOJK.

She urged the world for making suitable efforts to resolve longstanding issues of Kashmir according to UN resolutions and aspiration of people of the held valley.

She called upon the international community to uphold international human rights obligations and help implement the relevant UN Security Council Resolutions on Jammu & Kashmir.

She strongly urged the British Parliamentarians to play their role more actively in halting human rights violations and repealing draconian laws including demographic engineering in IIOJK.

Mashaal said that her husband Chairman of Jammu & Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF), Yasin Malik was a political prisoner and had been languishing in the Tihar Jail, India for years.

“Their young daughter has been deprived of meeting her own father and she was seriously concerned about the health and well-being of Yasin Malik”, she added.

She expressed reservations that Yasin Malik would be awarded a death sentence against his appeal scheduled for hearing early next month.

She appealed to the UK Parliamentarians to raise their concerns over this injustice.
Mushaal thanked the participants for inviting her to speak to the British Parliamentarians and human rights activists through APPG-Kashmir forum.
