Director Campus Dr. Rafaqat Ali, Deputy Director of Student Affairs Aurangzeb Watto, Dr. Misbah Akhtar, Representative of Directorate of Financial Institutions Umeer Mukhtar, in-charges of various departments and committee members interviewed about 1300 students for five days and awarded scholarships to deserving candidates.

Speaking in this regard, the Director of the Bahawalnagar Campus said he is grateful to the Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Naveed Akhtar for providing scholarships to many deserving students. The provision of these scholarships will prove to improve the educational activities. Director Campus Bahawalnagar also emphasized the need to provide more scholarships to the sub-campuses and said that the students of Bahalwalnagar campus are not less than any other in talent and ability and they should be encouraged by providing more scholarships.

Ten booked for driving without licence

SARGODHA, Jan 01 (APP):Ten drivers were arrested for not driving without a licence here in Sargodha on Monday.
According to official sources, traffic police teams checked vehicles and motorcycles by setting a blockade at Shaheen Park, University Road, Faisalabad Road,Jhal Chakian Chowk and found  Zaheer Abbas, Ashfaq Ahmad, Muhammad Asghar, Akaash, Muhammad Akram, Muhammad Khan, Amir Hayyat and others driving without a licence.

Pakistan signs agreements with int’l companies to boost employment opportunities

ISLAMABAD, Dec 30 (APP):Pakistan signed over a dozen agreements with Saudi and international companies that were executed during the recent expo in Saudi Arabia to boost employment opportunities abroad for the Pakistani workforce.

Pakistan, through its Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development (OP&HRD), participated for the first time in the International Human Resources & Labour Services Expo in Riyadh last year from December 24 to 27, 2023.

An official source told APP here on Monday, he said that the agreements would open doors for the Pakistani workforce in various sectors such as construction, hospitality, information technology, services industry and various other fields globally.

To a question, he said that the Overseas Employment Corporation (OEC), which is part of the Ministry of Overseas Pakistan and Human Resource Development, was also present at the expo through its Managing Director Naseer Khan Kashani.

Other dignitaries at the expo included Pakistan’s Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Ahmad Farooq and representatives of multinational organizations.

Underlining the importance of the expo, he stated that the expo served as a pivotal forum, bringing together human resources and recruitment companies alongside reliable and accredited labour services entities.

It provided an opportunity for Pakistan to engage with the global community, understand international market needs, and “tailor our skills to meet the evolving demands of the job market”, he added.

It also presented a unique opportunity for Pakistan to exhibit the capabilities and potential of its labour force, he added.
He said that the Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis, through its department OEC, stood proud at the Expo, demonstrating the rich potential of Pakistan’s technical workforce. “This is a moment of pride as OEC, for the first time, represents Pakistan on this significant global platform.”

He stated, “There are exciting plans to establish new vocational training centers across Pakistan, specifically tailored to meet the job market demands of regions like Saudi Arabia. This initiative underscores Pakistan’s commitment to developing a skilled workforce ready to meet global challenges. The Expo also opens avenues for collaboration with Saudi entities in vocational training and skill development, positioning OEC as a leader in the export of skilled manpower from Pakistan and as well as private OEPs.”

FAISALABAD, Jan 01 (APP):A cycle race was held to mark ‘Quaid Day’ in collaboration with divisional and district sports departments.
The race started from D-Type Colony and ended at Gatwala via WAPDA city. Several cyclists participated in the race. District Sports Officer Sajida Latif opened the race by unfurling a flag.
Asif Ali stood first in ordinary cycling, Abdullah second, Talha Khan Junior third, while in sports cycling Mazhar Ali, Muhammad Adeel, Faizan Ali, Ihsan Ali secured first, second and third position respectively.
Divisional President Cycling Association Haji Javed Sattar distributed medals, trophies and cash prizes among position holders.

ISLAMABAD, Jan 1 (APP):Famous poet Syed Zamir Jafri was remembered on his birth anniversary here on Monday.
Born at Chak Abdul Khaliq, Jhelum, on January 1, 1918, Zamir Jafri became famous for his humorous Urdu poetry. He also
wrote humorous columns in the newspapers and periodicals.
He wrote dozens of books in Urdu, including ‘Aag Ik Tara’, ‘Sar Goshian’, ‘Meray Pyar ki Zameen’, ‘Musadas Badhali’,
‘Nishan-e-Manzil’, ‘Bhanwar aur Badban’, ‘Ras Mela’, ‘Zameeriat’, ‘Zameer Zaviye’, ‘Mafi-ul-Zameer’, ‘Pehchan ka Lamha’, and ‘Zameer Hazir Zameer Ghaib’.
He died on May 12, 1999, leaving behind an unmatched work for lovers of Urdu literature.

DBA issues final list of candidates for election

FAISALABAD, Jan 01 (APP):The district bar association has issued a final list of 27 candidates for the annual election-2024.
According to the list released by the election board, four candidates will be in the run for president. They include Mian Anwarul Haq, Rai Saifur Rahman Bhatti, Rana Shahid Munir Manj and Chaudhry Mujahid Hasan Pansuta.
For the slot of vice-president Chaudhry Zulfiqar Ali Bandesha, Razia Chaudhry, Rana Muhammad Saeed Khan and Chaudhry Naeem Feroze Gujjar are contesting.
The contestants for DBA secretary are Chaudhry Ahmad Zahshan, Syed Sajid Hasnain Gilani, Chaudhry Tayyab Baqir Wahla, Mohammad Kashif Chaudhry Arain, Rana Muhammad Murtaza Hakeem and Malik Waqas Mohiuddin Awan.
Anila Asim and Shakeela Hamza Kharal are contesting for Finance Secretary while Rao Hasan Akmal, Malik Sajid Shakeel, Chaudhry Shahid Ali Waraich, Rana Aamir Ramadan, Muhammad Asif Dogar and Chaudhry Waqar Azim Hasan Gujjar for Joint Secretary.

Caretaker PM for legal proceedings against hoarders of urea fertilizer

ISLAMABAD, Jan 01 (APP): Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar on Monday said that enough urea fertilizer was available in the country to meet requirements and directed for initiation of legal proceedings against those involved in its hoarding and illegal profiteering.

He said that those exploiting farmers by urea fertilizer hoarding would not be spared.

The prime minister chaired a meeting over the availability of urea fertilizer in the country. The meeting was attended by Caretaker Finance Minister Dr Shamshad Akhtar, Caretaker Minister for Energy Muhammad Ali, Caretaker Minister for National Food Security Dr Kausar Abdullah Malik, Caretaker Minister for Trade Dr Gohar Ejaz, caretaker chief ministers and relevant officials, PM Office Media Wing said in a press release.

Addressing the participants, the caretaker prime minister directed for easier and trouble free supply of fertilizer to farmers and asked for strict supervision over its demand and supply.

He also directed the relevant federal ministries to ensure their assistance to the provincial governments in the action taken at controlling the issue of hoarding by providing details about demand and supply of fertilizer.

The meeting was apprised that for the buffer stock, a total of 2 million metric tons of urea would be imported.

8 women, boy ‘abducted’ in separate incidents

FAISALABAD, Jan 01 (APP):Nine people including eight women were “abducted” from different parts of Faisalabad during the past 12 hours.
A police spokesman said here on Monday that unidentified accused kidnapped a woman from Tariq Pura while  accused abducted a woman along with her daughter from Chak No.380-GB.
Similarly, women were abducted from Madina Town, Chak No.203-RB, Chak No.196-RB, Chak No.542-GB and Chak No.457-GB whereas 10-year-old boy Aryan was kidnapped from Chak No.566-GB.
The police registered separate cases and started investigations, he added.

Pakistan, India exchange lists of prisoners

ISLAMABAD, Jan 01 (APP): Pakistan on Monday handed over a list of 231 Indian prisoners including 184 fishermen and 47 civilians lodged in its jails to the Indian High Commission here.

Similarly, the Indian government also shared the list of 418 Pakistani prisoners in its custody with a representatives of the Pakistani High Commission in New Delhi which included 337 civilian prisoners and 81 fishermen, a Foreign Office statement said.

The simultaneous exchange of lists took place in pursuance of the Consular Access Agreement of 2008. Under the agreement, both countries are required to exchange the lists of prisoners in each other’s custody on 1st January and 1st July, every year.

The Government of India has been urged to release and repatriate all those Pakistani civilian prisoners and fishermen, who have completed their respective sentence and whose national status stands confirmed.

A request for grant of consular access to missing defence personnel of 1965 and 1971 wars, and special consular access to 77 civil prisoners has also been made.
