Three terrorists killed while infiltrating Pak-Afghan border: ISPR

RAWALPINDI, Dec 31 (APP): Three terrorists were killed by the security forces on Sunday who were trying to infiltrate the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, in the general area Batwar of Bajaur District, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).

The Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) in a news release said that their movement was picked up by the security forces in the general area Batwar and in the ensuing exchange of fire all three terrorists were killed.

Weapons, ammunition and explosives were also recovered from them.

Meanwhile, a soldier of the Pakistan Army embraced martyrdom while valiantly thwarting terrorists’ firing attempt on the border post in the general area of Spinwam, North Waziristan District, KP.

The martyred soldier was identified as Naik Abdul Rauf (age: 31 years, resident of: District Rahim Yar Khan).

It added that on the night of December 30 and 31, terrorists from inside Afghanistan, opened fire on a Pakistani Border Post in the general area of Spinwam, North Waziristan District, KP. The Army troops responded in a befitting manner causing considerable losses to the terrorists.

“Pakistan has consistently been asking the Interim Afghan Government to ensure effective border management on their side of the border.

Interim Afghan Government is expected to fulfill its obligations and deny the use of Afghan soil by terrorists for perpetuating acts of terrorism against Pakistan,” the ISPR said.

ABBOTTABAD, Dec 31 (APP): Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Justice (retd) Syed Arshad Hussain Shah on Sunday underscored the pivotal role journalists play in identifying societal issues, raising awareness, and fortifying democracy.
He expressed these views during a meeting with a delegation of journalists from Abbottabad.
The chief minister emphasized the media’s significance as a pillar of the state and acknowledged the vital function of journalists in highlighting prevalent issues. He commended their role in steering public awareness and contributing to the robustness of democracy.
The meeting was attended by key officials, including Commissioner Hazara Division Syed Zaheer-ul-Islam, Deputy Commissioner Abbottabad Khalid Iqbal, DPO Omar Tufail and others.
The CM asserted that journalists have the power to contribute to the eradication of corruption and steer the country out of crises.
He urged journalists to foster unity and consensus among themselves, providing leadership to the public and collectively working towards eliminating societal evils.
Highlighting the importance of mutual understanding and love in society, the chief minister stated that such qualities invite the descent of blessings from Allah. Conversely, societies lacking unity, love, and compassion may face a withholding of divine mercy.
Expressing optimism for the continued positive role of journalists in Abbottabad, the chief minister hoped they would actively contribute to the well-being and prosperity of the journalistic society.
He reassured the delegation that the provincial government is committed to addressing journalists’ issues and promoting their welfare through every possible means.

President felicitates Nation, Muslim Ummah on new year

ISLAMABAD, Dec 31 (APP): President Dr Arif Alvi Sunday felicitated the Pakistani Nation, the Muslim Ummah and the international community at the beginning of the new year 2024.

In a message, he said, “I would like to extend my heartfelt felicitations to the entire Pakistani Nation, the Muslim Ummah and the international community at the beginning of the new year.”

“As we bid farewell to the passing year and welcome the dawn of a new year, I pray to Allah Almighty that may the coming year bring prosperity, political and economic stability for Pakistan as well as the entire world.”

“At the beginning of the new year, we should not forget our brothers and sisters in Palestine who continue to face the brutal and barbaric attacks at the hands of the Israeli forces.”

He urged the international community to take urgent steps to stop genocide in Gaza and work for just and lasting peace in Palestine.

“Similarly, my thoughts are with the people of the Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu & Kashmir, who have been enduring atrocities and the longest siege by the Indian occupation forces.

“It is essential that the international community should take practical measures to resolve these longstanding disputes in accordance with the UN resolutions to promote global peace and security.”

“I also pray for the entire Muslim Ummah to foster unity and harmony, and work collectively to address the challenges being faced it.”

He further said, “As we envision a prosperous future, I wish for economic development, interfaith harmony, forgiveness, tolerance and mutual respect in Pakistan. May 2024 be a year of positive transformations, not only for Pakistan but for
the entire global community.”

“Let us welcome the coming year with the hope and determination to build a world where there are no conflicts and wars and where justice, peace, prosperity and compassion prevail. Happy New Year to you all!” he concluded.

IRSA releases 27,700 cusecs water

ISLAMABAD, Dec 31 (APP): Indus River System Authority (IRSA) on Sunday released 27,700 cusecs of water from various rim stations with an inflow of 37,400 cusecs.
According to the data released by IRSA, the water level in the River Indus at Tarbela Dam was 1476.87 feet and was 76.87 feet higher than its dead level of 1,398 feet. Water inflow and outflow in the dam was recorded as 17,200 cusecs and 8,600 cusecs respectively.
The water level in River Jhelum at Mangla Dam was 1156.35 feet, which was 106.35 feet higher than its dead level of 1,050 feet. The inflow and outflow of water were recorded at 6,100 cusecs and 5,000 cusecs respectively.
The release of water at Kalabagh, Taunsa, Guddu and Sukkur was recorded as 11,500, 16,300, 19,600 and zero cusecs respectively. Similarly, from River Kabul, a total of 7,300 cusecs of water were released at Nowshera and 6,800 cusecs were released from River Chenab at Marala.
