Gold rates decline by Rs.1,900 to Rs.220,900 per tola

ISLAMABAD, Dec 29 (APP):The per tola price of 24 karat gold decreased by Rs.1,900 and was sold at Rs.220,900 on Friday compared to its sale at Rs.222,800 on the last trading day.
The price of 10 grams of 24 karat gold also decreased by Rs.1,629 to Rs.189,386 from Rs.191,015 whereas the price of 10 gram 22 karat gold went down to Rs.173,604 from Rs.175,097, the All Sindh Sarafa Jewellers Association reported.
The price of per tola and ten-gram silver remained unchanged at Rs2,680 and Rs.2,297.66 respectively.
The price of gold in the international market decreased by $15 to $2,090 from $2,105, the Association reported.

IRSA releases 29,700 cusecs water

ISLAMABAD, Dec 29 (APP): Indus River System Authority (IRSA) on Friday released 29,700 cusecs water from various rim stations with inflow of 36,900 cusecs.
According to the data released by IRSA, water level in River Indus at Tarbela Dam was 1476.12 feet and was 76.12 feet higher than its dead level of 1,398 feet. Water inflow and outflow in the dam was recorded as 17,100 cusecs and 12,000 cusecs respectively.
The water level in River Jhelum at Mangla Dam was 1156.20 feet, which was 106.20 feet higher than its dead level of 1,050 feet. The inflow and outflow of water was recorded 6,100 cusecs and 4,000 cusecs respectively.
The release of water at Kalabagh, Taunsa , Guddu and Sukkur was recorded as 13,600, 19,200, 19,600 and zero cusecs respectively. Similarly, from River Kabul, a total of 6,900 cusecs of water released at Nowshera and 6,800 cusecs released from River Chenab at Marala.

Proclaimed Offender wanted in murder case arrested

RAWALPINDI, Dec 29 (APP): Police on Friday arrested a proclaimed offender (PO) wanted in a murder case, said a police spokesman here on Friday.

He informed that Chontra police conducted a raid and rounded up a PO namely Muhammad Chand, wanted in a murder case of a citizen namely Rizwan, killed over old enmity. A case on the complaint of the father of the victim was registered in Chontra Police Station in 2017.

Police working on scientific lines managed to trace and net the accused.
Superintendent of Police, Saddar, Muhammad Nabeel Khokhar appreciated the police team and directed to arrest POs and other criminals wanted in different cases.

ANF recovers 209 kg drugs in seven operations; arrests seven

RAWALPINDI, Dec 29 (APP):Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) while conducting seven operations across the country managed to recover over 209 kg drugs and arrested seven accused, said an ANF Headquarters spokesman here on Friday.

He informed that 1.760 kg Ice was recovered from a parcel booked for Dubai at a courier office in Rawalpindi. 1.2 kg hashish was recovered from a Doha-bound passenger going on Flight No. QR-633 at Islamabad Airport.

115 grams Ice was recovered from a passenger’s luggage at Allama Iqbal International Airport. The accused was leaving for Sharjah by flight number PA-412.
121 kg heroin and 75 kg morphine were recovered from Bostan area of Pishin.
A total of 4 kg hashish was recovered from two suspects in Peshawar while 4 kg hashish was also recovered from two suspects near Customs Chowk Peshawar.

2 kg hashish was recovered from an accused arrested near Board Bazar Peshawar.
Cases under the Anti-Narcotics Act have been registered against the arrested accused while further investigations are under process.

Gomal university issues special edition on one- year performance

DERA ISMAIL KHAN, Dec 29 (APP):Gomal University has issued a special edition of the newsletter featuring one-year performance of the university under the leadership of Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Shakibullah.

The release of the exclusive edition was marked in an impressive ceremony held at the senate hall of the university where a copy of the new edition was presented to the vice chancellor, says the university’s spokesman.

He said that the public relations department of the university had issued the newsletter. Dr. Ehsanullah Danish, senior member of the editorial board, director of Tank Campus speaking on occasion said that the university had achieved remarkable progress on administrative, co-curricular, research and academic fronts during the outgoing year under the patronage of the Vice-Chancellor.

He said that the copy highlighted all these activities and achievements besides so many other such activities and it would be made part of the university’s record.

He also expressed special thanks to Muhammad Fazlur Rehman, in charge of the Press Information Department, Dera Region for his valuable contributions towards the newsletter.

He also appreciated the University PRO Raja Alamzeb for preparing this edition in a short time.

Professor Dr. Shakibullah congratulated the members of the editorial team of the newsletter for their successful efforts.

China, Arab countries hold special operations, counter-terrorism seminar: Chinese Defense Spokesperson

BEIJING, Dec. 29 (APP):”The Chinese PLA Southern Theatre Command hosted the China-Arab states special operations and counter-terrorism seminar from December 26 to 30 in Guangzhou City of south China’s Guangdong Province.

Leaders of special operations and counter-terrorism departments and troop commanders from countries including Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Oman attended the event,” said Senior Colonel Wu Qian, spokesperson for China’s Ministry of National Defense, at a regular press conference.
According to the spokesperson, the seminar is hosted under the theme of “focusing on special operations and counter-terrorism cooperation, building a China-Arab community with a shared future”.

Delegates had an in-depth exchange of views on topics including the new move in regional terrorism and joint response, the establishment, training and real combat of special operations and counter-terrorism forces, urban special operations and counter-terrorism operations, anti-piracy and coping with maritime terrorism, etc.

“This event aims to deepen exchanges and cooperation between China and Arab countries in the field of special operations and counter-terrorism, and build a community of a shared future between China and Arab countries,” said the spokesperson.

Caretaker govt introducing ‘Contract Base Smartphones Policy’ from Jan 15: Minister

ISLAMABAD, Dec 29 (APP):Caretaker IT and Telecommunication Minister Dr Umar Saif Friday disclosed that his ministry with the coordination of all other stakeholders of telecom companies from January 15, 2024 will launch a ‘Contract based smart phone policy’ in which people travelling to other countries will get latest model phones on easy installments, which will benefit economy.

Talking to a private news channel, IT minister said that our aim to incentive responsible financial behavior and ensure that smart phone accessibility continues to expand, adding, we need a robust mechanism to protect investors from defaults, suggesting measures such as blocking mobile phones and, potentially, national identity cards of defaulters.

Minister said that under this policy, telecome companies will have the opportunity to directly offer smartphones to customers through installment plans, thereby expanding the benefits of mobile broadband, especially among low-income segments in Pakistan.

Replying another question, he also announced that his ministry from January 7 to 10 have been introducing a ‘Standardized Quality measurement Tests’ across universities in Pakistan to ensure job opportunities for fresh graduates.

Ministry have made significant decisions to revamp IT education in universities in collaboration with HEC, the National Computing Accreditation Council, the Examination Testing Council, the Pakistan Software Export Board, and the Pakistan Software Houses Association.

He said further explained the program that countrywide students around 20 to 25,000 who will pass the test will be offered job opportunities through the Industry Placement Program.

He said that we will allocate funds to support special industry courses in universities, designed to prepare students for current industry trends and needs, we aim to increase our trained manpower in industrial sector.

He also highlighted the importance of aligning educational institutions with industry requirements and facilitating industry-specific training manpower.

Minister also asked the universities to take rapid action to start new quality courses in entrepreneurship and exports for students which would help boost economy of the country.

To another query, he replied that we have planned to make exponential growth in IT sector as it is necessary for us to bring productivity revolution in our economy by using Information and Communications Technology.

Election activities, arrangements reviewed in Tank

DERA ISMAIL KHAN, Dec 29 (APP):Additional Deputy Commissioner General Tank and Returning Officer for the National Assembly constituency- NA-43 Tanveer Khan paid a visit to the Gomal University Campus and election training center to review arrangements for the general elections.

According to the district administration, during the visit, he inspected activities with regard to the upcoming elections and issued directives to the officials concerned to ensure comprehensive arrangements.

Returning Officer for the provincial constituency PK-108 Shoaib Ahmed Khan also accompanied him and both officials monitored the training session and expressed satisfaction in this regard.

The Additional Deputy Commissioner mentioned that all staff should carry out their responsibilities in an exemplary manner, ensuring transparency.
