Renowned Urdu poet Jaun Alia remembered on birth anniversary

ISLAMABAD, Dec 14 (APP): Renowned Urdu poet and scholar Jaun Elia was remembered on the occasion of his birth anniversary on Thursday.
Born on December 14, 1931, in an illustrious family in Amroha,  Uttar Pradesh, he was  the youngest of his siblings. His father Allama Shafiq Hasan Elia was deeply involved in art and literature and also an astrologer and a poet.
This literary environment modelled him along the same lines and he wrote his first Urdu couplet when he was just 8. He was fluent in Arabic, English, Persian, Sanskrit and Hebrew.
He migrated to Pakistan in 1957 and started living in Karachi. His first poetic collection Shayad was published in 1991, when he was 60. The second collection of his poetry Ya’ani was published posthumously in 2003.
Later his companion, Khalid Ansari, compiled and published his three consecutive collections, Gumaan in 2004, Lekin in 2006 and Goya in 2008.
He died after a protracted illness on November 8, 2002 in Karachi.

Rupee gains 10 paisa against Dollar

ISLAMABAD, Dec 14 (APP): Pakistani Rupee on Thursday gained 10 paisa against the US Dollar in the interbank trading and closed at Rs283.51 against the previous day’s closing at Rs283.61.

However, according to the Forex Association of Pakistan (FAP), the buying and selling rates of the Dollar in the open market stood at Rs284 and Rs286 respectively.

The price of the Euro increased by Rs2.64 to close at Rs308.48 against the last day’s closing of Rs305.84, according to the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP).

The Japanese Yen went up by 05 paisa and closed at Rs1.99; whereas an increase of Rs2.90 was witnessed in the exchange rate of the British Pound, which traded at Rs357.95 compared to the last closing of Rs355.05.

The exchange rates of the Emirates Dirham and the Saudi Riyal decreased by 03 paisa each to close at Rs77.19 and Rs75.57 respectively.

Pakistan’s envoy in Iran welcomes Pakistani jeep rally members

TEHRAN (Iran), Dec 14 (APP): Pakistan’s Ambassador to Iran Mudassir Tipu welcomed a 20-member jeep rally delegates at the Embassy of Pakistan in Tehran on Thursday aimed at promoting tourism and friendship between the two countries.

The rally organized by Cross Route Club Lahore left the provincial capital of Punjab to Iran on November 29 on a 25-day trip.

Ambassador Mudassir Tipu greatly appreciated the spirit of rally leader Mukaram Tareen and other members of the rally including women and young children.

He said the rally members took a great initiative by traveling thousands of kilometers to promote the cultural and tourism ties between Pakistan and Iran.

The rally members urged the people of the two countries to explore the breathtaking areas witnessed during the road travel from Pakistan to Iran.

FIA launches TIP Hotline for reporting human trafficking cases

ISLAMABAD, Dec 14 (APP): Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), for the first time in country, on Thursday launched a national Trafficking In Persons (TIP) Hotline for national referral mechanism and management information system (MIS) for the general public to ensure the provision of service to victims of human trafficking under one roof, in collaboration with the International Labour Organization (ILO).

Director General FIA Mohsin Hassan, along with ADG Immigration, FIA, country representative of UNODC, Australian Deputy High Commissioner, Director ILO, US Political Advisor, other dignitaries, senior FIA officers from the provinces, also attended the ceremony.

Shireen Malik Sher, Additional Director, FIA, who is the focal person of the project, worked under the supervision of Israr Ahmed Khan, Director Anti-Human Smuggling Directorate of FIA and accomplished the Project in a very short span of time.
The project was funded by Australian High Commission through International Labour Organization (ILO).

Shireen Malik Sher, sharing the main features of the project, told APP that this was the first-ever initiative which would have the mechanism to ensure a prompt response. After receiving the complaint on hotline, the official concerned at TIP facilitation center would send complaint against the traffickers to the concerned police stations across Pakistan with a single click and trafficking victims will be referred to the concerned departments for welfare, she added.

Addressing the audience, DG FIA, Mohsin Hassan Butt said National TIP Hotline project for National Referral Mechanism represented a pivotal moment in the fight against Trafficking In Person crimes.

Acknowledging the periodic reporting by the Government of Pakistan on international obligations, this system represented an evolutionary stride towards a more coordinated, efficient, and harmonized approach to reporting across the country, he said adding it was not just a system but a catalyst for change, thus enhancing the capacity of FIA to address Trafficking In Persons comprehensively.

Speaking on the occasion, the Australian Deputy High Commissioner lauded the efforts, put forth by FIA and ILO to launch this application which would be a revolutionary step towards warding off the menace of human trafficking in all its forms.

In the concluding remarks, DG FIA Mohsin Hassan Butt expressed profound gratitude for the United Nation Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) for extending help to FIA and added the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) had been a proud partner in a longstanding and fruitful collaboration with UNODC.

He said that the National Action Plan to combat Trafficking In Person and Smuggling of Migrants was formulated together with UNODC to set a comprehensive agenda for the collective efforts.

HED bars Pro-VCs from taking major administrative, financial decisions; FAUPASA terms restriction illegal

PESHAWAR, Dec 14 (APP):The Higher Education Department (HED) in a letter to 11 public sector universities of the province restrained the pro Vice Chancellors and Acting VCs from taking any major administrative and financial decision.
It said that the pro or acting VC could only run day to day affairs of the universities and should not take any decision that might create financial implications and cause difficulties for future incumbents of VC.
Meanwhile, Federation of All Pakistan Universities Academics Staff Association, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chapter termed the decision of HED contradictory to the clause 12 A-3 of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Universities Act 2012.
In a letter to the Minister for Higher Education FAPUASA KP quoting the universities’ act mentioned, “The pro-Vice chancellor shall be deemed to be the acting vice chancellor to perform all the functions and powers of the vice chancellor, in case of expiration of the tenure of the regular vice chancellor or any other case which requires appointment of regular vice chancellor. The Acting Vice Chancellor shall remain in office till appointment of regular Vice Chancellor under this Act.”
The association urged the minister as well as the governor and chancellor of KP public sector universities to order withdrawal of the HEC letter.

PPP urges CEC to remove reservations of all political parties: Kundi

ISLAMABAD, Dec 14 (APP): Information Secretary, Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Faisal Karim Kundi Thursday urged the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sikandar Sultan Raja to remove the reservations of all the political parties and ensure provision of level playing field to them during the upcoming general elections on February 8.
“PPP’s stance on general polls is very clear that the ECP should conduct timely, free and fair elections in the country,” he said while addressing a press conference here.
Faisal Kundi aid that a delegation of PPP already met the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) and apprised him about the reservations and need to provide level playing field in the upcoming polls. The CEC has assured them that there will be no delay in the elections, he added.
Faisal Kundi said that the masses should decide to vote for any political party in general elections as it was the right of the people to vote and elect the party to rule in the country.
“The masses will not accept any government unless free and fair elections are ensured. The credibility of the Parliament will be nothing if free, fair and transparent elections were not conducted in the country,” he added.
About the rumors regarding the ban on social media during elections, he said that PPP would fully oppose the restriction of social media as it was important tool to approach the masses during the elections.
Faisal Kundi said that the country was facing critical law and order situation especially, in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan and the social media was the best tool to access the people in the situation, adding that the ECP should also address the issue.
“PPP always talked about the implementation of the National Action Plan (NAP) in letter and spirit to root out the terrorism from the country,” he added.
He said that President Pakistan People’s Party Parliamentarians (PPPP) Asif Ali Zardari has categorically stated that transparent and timely polls was the only solution to get rid of all the challenges being faced by the country.
Faisal Kundi said that law and order, economy, inflation and unemployment were the key challenges being faced by the country and PPP has the solution of all these issues.
He said that this time, if the selection process was adopted instead of transparent elections, the nation would not accept it because now there was majority of young people who were conscious and they would not accept the selection.

Pakistan Railways move ahead to adopt digital work place solutions

ISLAMABAD, Dec 14 (APP):Pakistan Railways is taking steps to become an E-office soon to digitalize its service and improve internal efficiencies through electronic administration.
The e-office platform aims to cater for the need for effectiveness and transparency in Governmental processes and service delivery mechanisms as well as help government departments to go paperless.
The idea is being implemented with the help of the National Information Technology Board (NITB) which will be responsible for providing the relevant training to the staff of Pakistan Railways.
E-Office is a digital workplace solution that replaces the existing method of manual handling of files and documents with an efficient electronic system.
According to an official source, Pakistan Railways will be on e-office soon which will not only facilitate the users but also make the entire system of the department transparent.
Listing other steps taken by the department, the source revealed that Pakistan Railways has developed a software application for journalist concession card management.
All the related data for journalist concession cards across the country is managed by the Directorate of Public Relations. The software has been prepared and is linked with the centralized reservation centre as well.
About the Networking Monitoring System (NMS), the source said that the software has been deployed on the premises of the Directorate of IT with the help of this system all network deployed all over the railways network is being monitored critically and in case of any disconnections the concerned service provider is taken up and pursued till the fault is removed.
The efficiency of the network is being monitored through this system from audit perspective as well, it said.
Regarding the provision of internet facilities at different levels, the source said that the entire railway headquarters office is covered with internet service. Internet facility is also been provided at the Ministry via the PR Headquarters office (as a backup link).
It was decided by the management of Pakistan Railways to develop an e-ticketing system with the latest technology indigenously. To implement this idea, Pakistan Railways hired IT professionals from the market and developed the software, which has been deployed and in operation since May 2016.
As the e-ticketing system has now been deployed on the latest tools and techniques, to facilitate the management of earnings at the day’s end, a train train-wise earning portal has been devised.
This portal indicates complete information about the financial aspect from the commercial point of view and provides the live incremental financial position concerning passenger earing.
The software for the email exchange server has been installed in the IT Directorate with the viewpoint that emails being used previously from the web hosting company were bounced back as a result e-ticketing client of Pakistan Railways was not in a position to approach this office in case of complaints and claim of refund.
In addition to the above facility the email addresses have also been issued to the officials of Pakistan Railways to communicate on officials’ email within or out of the organization, it added.
They developed the software for the court cases for all of the Pakistan Railways System. The software has now been developed and deployed on the premises of the consumers in all divisions.
In light of the present scenario, the legal department is being facilitated regarding information on all basic ingredients of every legal case and progress made so far.

President promulgates Privatization Commission (Amendment) Ordinance 2023

ISLAMABAD, Dec 14 (APP): President Dr Arif Alvi has promulgated the Privatization Commission (Amendment) Ordinance 2023, the President’s House said Thursday.

The amendment has been made in Articles 28 to 33 of the earlier Privatization Commission Ordinance 2000.

The purpose of the Ordinance is to end unnecessary delay in matters related to privatization, resolution of issues, and compliance in accordance with the principles of law and justice.

Under the amendment, a three-member Privatization Appellate Tribunal will be set up by the federal government, which will have the authority to take up civil and criminal cases related to privatization.

The powers given to high courts under the Privatization Commission Ordinance 2000 have been transferred to the Privatization Appellate Tribunal.

President Alvi approved the ordinance by amending the sub-section 2(4) of Section 28 as proposed by the government.

He amended the proposal of appointing the retired judge of the high court with the retired judge of the Supreme Court of Pakistan. The other members include a technical and judicial member.

The appeal against the decisions of the Appellate Tribunal will be filed with the Supreme Court of Pakistan within 60 days of the verdict.

The Sections 30 and 33 of the Ordinance 2000 have been abolished.

The president approved the Ordinance in line with Article 89 of the Constitution of Pakistan.

CM prioritizes merged Districts’ progress & prosperity

PESHAWAR, Dec 14 (APP):The Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Justice (Retired) Syed Arshad Hussain Shah, stated on Thursday that the development and progress of the merged districts are the top priority of the provincial government, and a strategy has been formulated and is being implemented.
He made this statement during a meeting with under-training Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASPs) as part of their study tour.
The police officers are receiving briefings on the province’s security, developmental portfolio, overall economic situation, district issues, and other important matters. The Chief Minister mentioned that the administrative merger of former tribal districts has been completed, but financial integration is still pending.
He emphasized that national-level financial issues are impacting the progress and development of the merged districts. Promises of financial assistance made during the merger have not been fully fulfilled, hindering progress in the merged districts. Financial issues and funding for merged districts were discussed with the Prime Minister, and he assured his sincerity to resolve issues.
The Chief Minister stressed that police officers should embrace professionalism, integrity, and support for justice as their motto. He highlighted the crucial role of the police in establishing and maintaining peace and security for the nation and the country.
Commending the resilience of police personnel who have made great sacrifices and consistently faced terrorism in the province, the Chief Minister emphasized unity to defeat anti-state elements. He stated that the police and security forces maintain high morale and spirit to overcome challenges.
Expressing his resolve to bring progress and stability to the country, particularly the merged districts, he announced that soon the “Khushal Khyber Pakhtunkhwa program” will be implemented, providing technical training to youth and sending them abroad for employment opportunities. Under the program, the youth of merged districts will be given top priority.
