Rupee gains 10 paisa against Dollar
ISLAMABAD, Dec 14 (APP): Pakistani Rupee on Thursday gained 10 paisa against the US Dollar in the interbank trading and closed at Rs283.51 against the previous day’s closing at Rs283.61.
However, according to the Forex Association of Pakistan (FAP), the buying and selling rates of the Dollar in the open market stood at Rs284 and Rs286 respectively.
The price of the Euro increased by Rs2.64 to close at Rs308.48 against the last day’s closing of Rs305.84, according to the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP).
The Japanese Yen went up by 05 paisa and closed at Rs1.99; whereas an increase of Rs2.90 was witnessed in the exchange rate of the British Pound, which traded at Rs357.95 compared to the last closing of Rs355.05.
The exchange rates of the Emirates Dirham and the Saudi Riyal decreased by 03 paisa each to close at Rs77.19 and Rs75.57 respectively.
Pakistan’s envoy in Iran welcomes Pakistani jeep rally members
TEHRAN (Iran), Dec 14 (APP): Pakistan’s Ambassador to Iran Mudassir Tipu welcomed a 20-member jeep rally delegates at the Embassy of Pakistan in Tehran on Thursday aimed at promoting tourism and friendship between the two countries.
The rally organized by Cross Route Club Lahore left the provincial capital of Punjab to Iran on November 29 on a 25-day trip.
Ambassador Mudassir Tipu greatly appreciated the spirit of rally leader Mukaram Tareen and other members of the rally including women and young children.
He said the rally members took a great initiative by traveling thousands of kilometers to promote the cultural and tourism ties between Pakistan and Iran.
The rally members urged the people of the two countries to explore the breathtaking areas witnessed during the road travel from Pakistan to Iran.
FIA launches TIP Hotline for reporting human trafficking cases
ISLAMABAD, Dec 14 (APP): Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), for the first time in country, on Thursday launched a national Trafficking In Persons (TIP) Hotline for national referral mechanism and management information system (MIS) for the general public to ensure the provision of service to victims of human trafficking under one roof, in collaboration with the International Labour Organization (ILO).
Director General FIA Mohsin Hassan, along with ADG Immigration, FIA, country representative of UNODC, Australian Deputy High Commissioner, Director ILO, US Political Advisor, other dignitaries, senior FIA officers from the provinces, also attended the ceremony.
Shireen Malik Sher, Additional Director, FIA, who is the focal person of the project, worked under the supervision of Israr Ahmed Khan, Director Anti-Human Smuggling Directorate of FIA and accomplished the Project in a very short span of time.
The project was funded by Australian High Commission through International Labour Organization (ILO).
Shireen Malik Sher, sharing the main features of the project, told APP that this was the first-ever initiative which would have the mechanism to ensure a prompt response. After receiving the complaint on hotline, the official concerned at TIP facilitation center would send complaint against the traffickers to the concerned police stations across Pakistan with a single click and trafficking victims will be referred to the concerned departments for welfare, she added.
Addressing the audience, DG FIA, Mohsin Hassan Butt said National TIP Hotline project for National Referral Mechanism represented a pivotal moment in the fight against Trafficking In Person crimes.
Acknowledging the periodic reporting by the Government of Pakistan on international obligations, this system represented an evolutionary stride towards a more coordinated, efficient, and harmonized approach to reporting across the country, he said adding it was not just a system but a catalyst for change, thus enhancing the capacity of FIA to address Trafficking In Persons comprehensively.
Speaking on the occasion, the Australian Deputy High Commissioner lauded the efforts, put forth by FIA and ILO to launch this application which would be a revolutionary step towards warding off the menace of human trafficking in all its forms.
In the concluding remarks, DG FIA Mohsin Hassan Butt expressed profound gratitude for the United Nation Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) for extending help to FIA and added the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) had been a proud partner in a longstanding and fruitful collaboration with UNODC.
He said that the National Action Plan to combat Trafficking In Person and Smuggling of Migrants was formulated together with UNODC to set a comprehensive agenda for the collective efforts.

PPP urges CEC to remove reservations of all political parties: Kundi
ISLAMABAD, Dec 14 (APP): Information Secretary, Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Faisal Karim Kundi Thursday urged the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sikandar Sultan Raja to remove the reservations of all the political parties and ensure provision of level playing field to them during the upcoming general elections on February 8.
“PPP’s stance on general polls is very clear that the ECP should conduct timely, free and fair elections in the country,” he said while addressing a press conference here.
Faisal Kundi aid that a delegation of PPP already met the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) and apprised him about the reservations and need to provide level playing field in the upcoming polls. The CEC has assured them that there will be no delay in the elections, he added.
Faisal Kundi said that the masses should decide to vote for any political party in general elections as it was the right of the people to vote and elect the party to rule in the country.
“The masses will not accept any government unless free and fair elections are ensured. The credibility of the Parliament will be nothing if free, fair and transparent elections were not conducted in the country,” he added.
About the rumors regarding the ban on social media during elections, he said that PPP would fully oppose the restriction of social media as it was important tool to approach the masses during the elections.
Faisal Kundi said that the country was facing critical law and order situation especially, in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan and the social media was the best tool to access the people in the situation, adding that the ECP should also address the issue.
“PPP always talked about the implementation of the National Action Plan (NAP) in letter and spirit to root out the terrorism from the country,” he added.
He said that President Pakistan People’s Party Parliamentarians (PPPP) Asif Ali Zardari has categorically stated that transparent and timely polls was the only solution to get rid of all the challenges being faced by the country.
Faisal Kundi said that law and order, economy, inflation and unemployment were the key challenges being faced by the country and PPP has the solution of all these issues.
He said that this time, if the selection process was adopted instead of transparent elections, the nation would not accept it because now there was majority of young people who were conscious and they would not accept the selection.
Pakistan Railways move ahead to adopt digital work place solutions
President promulgates Privatization Commission (Amendment) Ordinance 2023
ISLAMABAD, Dec 14 (APP): President Dr Arif Alvi has promulgated the Privatization Commission (Amendment) Ordinance 2023, the President’s House said Thursday.
The amendment has been made in Articles 28 to 33 of the earlier Privatization Commission Ordinance 2000.
The purpose of the Ordinance is to end unnecessary delay in matters related to privatization, resolution of issues, and compliance in accordance with the principles of law and justice.
Under the amendment, a three-member Privatization Appellate Tribunal will be set up by the federal government, which will have the authority to take up civil and criminal cases related to privatization.
The powers given to high courts under the Privatization Commission Ordinance 2000 have been transferred to the Privatization Appellate Tribunal.
President Alvi approved the ordinance by amending the sub-section 2(4) of Section 28 as proposed by the government.
He amended the proposal of appointing the retired judge of the high court with the retired judge of the Supreme Court of Pakistan. The other members include a technical and judicial member.
The appeal against the decisions of the Appellate Tribunal will be filed with the Supreme Court of Pakistan within 60 days of the verdict.
The Sections 30 and 33 of the Ordinance 2000 have been abolished.
The president approved the Ordinance in line with Article 89 of the Constitution of Pakistan.
