Annual sports gala of Peshawar Model Degree Colleges held

PESHAWAR, Jan 29 (APP):The annual sports gala of Peshawar Model Degree Colleges was held here on Monday, wherein students participated in different games.
The students of Peshawar Model Degree College (Boys) Dalazak Road, Hayatabad and Mardan campus participated in the event with full enthusiasm.
The students competed in cricket, football, badminton, volleyball, chess, and athletics.
Assistant Director of Sports Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Ishfaq Ahmed attended the ceremony as a Chief Guest and awarded trophies, medals and certificates to the winning players and teams and motivated the students to participate in the games.
In the end, the Director of Colleges Muhammad Sohail presented college souvenirs to the Chief Guest

Counsel General says Arab Health event to provide Pakistani firms exports opportunities

ISLAMABAD, Jan 29 (APP): Counsel General of Pakistan in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, Hussain Muhammad on Monday said that a total of 40 Pakistani exhibitors were participating in the four-day  ‘Arab Health 2024’  which would give them opportunities to diversify their exports, explore new markets and network with the industry leaders from around the world.

He expressed these views while visiting Pakistan Pavilion at the inauguration of “Leading Healthcare Exhibition’ which is being held in Dubai from 29 January to 1 February.

The Arab Health is one of the largest healthcare show in the region with more than 3,000 exhibitors consisting of investors, professionals and educators joining from more than 150 countries. It provides lucrative investment opportunities and a platform to address the global healthcare challenges, a press release said.

The counsel general said further highlighted that with the assistance of the government through Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP), about 40 exhibitors showcasing pharmaceutical, surgical products, and hospital textile were taking part in the exhibition.

He said that different sideline events and workshops were also planned during the four-day event that would provide good exposure to their firms.

The Pakistan pavilion is established with the assistance of TDAP in Za’abeel Hall-7 at Dubai World Trade Centre at the venue of the exhibition.

Gang involved in motorcycle theft arrested

RAWALPINDI, Jan 29 (APP):Police have arrested a three-member gang involved in house robberies, motorcycle theft and recovered 04 stolen motorcycle and stolen amount more than  Rs 2,00,000 from their possession during crackdown here on Monday.
Naseerabad police during course of action held the  accused include Imran, Sagar and Shams.
Police have registered separate cases against all of them and further investigation was in progress.
SP Pothohar Nasir Nawaz appreciated the performance of police teams adding that strict action will be taken against
anti-social elements.
He made it clear that it is prime duty of police to protect the lives and properties of people.
The accused will be challaned by the court with solid evidence and will be punished, he added.

Three robber gangs busted, looted valuables recovered

MULTAN, Jan 29 (APP):Muzaffarabad police have busted three notorious robber gangs and arrested six members of these gangs besides recovering looted valuables from their possession during a crackdown launched here on Monday.
In line with special directives of the City Police Officer (CPO) Sadiq Ali, the police launched a special crackdown
against criminals involved in depriving citizens of motorcycles and other valuables at gunpoint.
The police team busted three notorious robber gangs including Altaf Gang, Abdullah Gang and Shaban Gang. The
police arrested six members of these gangs including the ring leaders Muhammad Abdullah, Muhammad Altaf and
Shaban.
During the initial investigations, the police recovered looted valuables of worth Rs 1.2 million including seven
motorcycles, cash, Rs 450,000 and mobile phones from their possession by tracing 24 cases.
Further investigations were underway and more recoveries were expected from the arrested criminals, police
sources added.

Diplomats, international journalists invited to Xinjiang’s annual political meetings

BEIJING, Jan 29 (APP): International representatives and media outlets have for the first time been invited to sit in on or cover the upcoming annual political meetings in northwest China’s Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, local authorities said.

The meetings, known as “Two Sessions,” are the annual meetings of provincial-level lawmakers and political advisors, during which plans for local economic and social development in the year ahead are discussed. China’s national-level Two Sessions normally take place in Beijing in March each year, after local meetings are finished.

The annual meeting of the Xinjiang regional people’s congress will open on Tuesday, while the Xinjiang regional committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference will gather, CGTN reported on Monday.

The regional foreign affairs office has invited diplomats from the embassies of Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) member states, SCO observer states and dialogue partners, as well as representatives of international organizations such as the SCO Secretariat and the Central Asian Regional Economic Cooperation Institute, to sit in on the meetings.

Dozens of domestic and international media outlets attended the press conference on Sunday, including Türkiye’s Anadolu Agency, Indonesia’s Antara News Agency, Singapore’s The Straits Times and Kazakhstan’s Kazinform.

Journalists from 10 media outlets in Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and Macao Special Administrative Region also attended the meeting.

Shipping activity at Port Qasim

KARACHI, Jan 29 (APP):Four ships namely, Olympia, Silver Eburna, EceNurBayraktar and Simaisma carrying Containers, Palm oil, Urea and LNG,berthed at Container Terminal, Liquid Terminal, Grain Terminal and Gas Terminal respectively on Sunday.

Meanwhile three more ships, MSC Yukta-X, MSC Mumbai-VIII and FSM with Container and LPG are also arrived at outer-anchorage of the Port Qasim during last 24 hours. total of nine ships were engaged at PQA berths during the last 24 hours, out of them two ships, Olympia and Silver Eburna are left the port on today morning and two more ships, MookdaNaree and Pacific Merit are expected to sail on same day.

Cargo throughput of 110,836 tonnes, comprising 109,226 tonnes imports cargo and 1,610 tonnes export cargo carried in 609 Containers (521 TEUs are Import and 88 TEUs are export)was handled at the port during last 24 hours.

There are 07 ships at Outer Anchorage of Port Qasim, out of them three ships, Encore, Tromso and MSC Mumbai-VIII & two more ships, Maersk Atlanta and Chem-Road Leo scheduled to load/offload Rice, Palm oil, Containers and Chemicals are expected to take berths at MW2, LCT, QICT and EVTL on today.
While another containers ship Maersk Boston is due to arrive at Port Qasim on Tuesday.

Cold weather with rains in most districts predicted for KP

PESHAWAR, Jan 29 (APP):The Regional Meteorological Center Peshawar on Monday predicted that cold and cloudy weather is likely to occur in most districts of the province.
However, it said rain (snowfall over the hills) is expected in Chitral, Lower & Upper Dir, Malakand, Buner, Swat, Shangla, Kohistan, Torghar, Battagram, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Swabi, Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Kurram, Hangu, Orakzai, Bannu, North & South Waziristan districts.
Isolated light rain is also expected in Mardan, Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera, Kohat, Karak, Lakki Marwat, Tank and D.I.Khan districts.
During the last 24 hours rain recorded in millimeter at different stations of KP was Dir 45mm, Pattan 34mm, Parachinar 28mm, Kalam 22mm, Malam Jabba 19mm, Saidu Sharif 17mm, Chitral 11mm, Balakot 10mm, Mirkhani 09mm, Timergara 07mm, Drosh 06mm, Takht Bhai 04mm, Peshawar (City Trace & A/P 01) and Kakul & Risalpur Trace (each). Snowfall recorded in (inches): Kalam 10 and Malamjaba 08.
The maximum and minimum temperatures recorded in centigrade at different stations of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were Peshawar 18/09, Chitral 12/03, Timergara 10/03, Dir 09/01, Mirkhani 11/01, Kalam 04/-06, Drosh 10/-01, Saidu Sharif 14/03, Pattan 16/06, Malam Jabba 02/-04, Takht Bhai 16/09, Kakul 17/01, Balakot 14/08, Parachinar 08/00, Bannu 22/05, Cherat 13/02, DI Khan City 24/09.
The lowest temperature recorded in the province was -06 in Kalam.

ECP issues special guidelines for presiding officers

ISLAMABAD, Jan 29 (APP): The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has issued special guidelines for the presiding and assistant presiding officers for the general elections across the country to be held on February 8.

“As per the guidelines the presiding and assistant presiding officers should reach the respective polling stations two hours before polling time,” an official of the ECP told APP.

He said that the presiding and assistant presiding officers should enter all the information on the ballot paper counters file as per the guidelines issued by the ECP.

Apart from this, put the left thumb of men and the right thumb of women on the counters file of the ballot papers and put the official seal with a specific number on the back of the ballot papers, he said.

He said that a total of 90,675 polling stations have been established in the country for the general polls out of which 25,320 for men and 23,950 for women while 41,405 will be joint polling stations.

Rupee sheds 05 paisa against dollar

ISLAMABAD, Jan 29 (APP):The Pakistani Rupee on Monday witnessed a devaluation of 05 paisa against the US Dollar in the interbank trading and closed at Rs279.64 against the previous day’s closing of Rs279.59.
However, according to the Forex Association of Pakistan (FAP), the buying and selling rates of the Dollar in the open market stood at Rs279.5 and Rs281.6 respectively.
The price of the Euro increased by 51 paisa to close at Rs302.97 against the last day’s closing of Rs302.46, according to the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP).
The Japanese Yen remained unchanged and closed at Rs1.89, whereas an increase of 77 paisa was witnessed in the exchange rate of the British Pound, which traded at Rs355.39 compared to the last closing of Rs354.62.
The exchange rates of the Emirates Dirham and the Saudi Riyal increased by 01 paisa each to close at Rs76.13 and Rs74.56 respectively.
