Two including a muezzin held for arms supply

KARACHI, Jan 30 (APP):In an operation led by Pirabad Police Station, two individuals, one of whom was a muezzin, were apprehended on charges related to the distribution of firearms.
According to a spokesperson from the West Zone Police, the raid was conducted following intelligence reports, resulting in the successful capture of individuals allegedly involved in the illegal arms trade within the city.
The suspects are accused of smuggling prohibited weapons from tribal regions and transporting them to the Paposh Bus Terminal situated in Banaras.
During the police intervention, two suspects, including the accused who performed the duties of a muezzin at the bus terminal, were detained. Among the items seized were two illegal pistols along with ammunition, two mobile phones, and a sum of cash.
Among the detained individuals are (muezzin) Aziz-ur-Rehman, also known as Qari and Abdullah.
Legal proceedings have been initiated against the suspects, and investigations are underway.

Man killed on road

SARGODHA, Jan 30 (APP):A man was killed after a collision between a speeding truck and a car near
under the jurisdiction of Masti Khail Police station on Tuesday.
Police said Usman Masti Khail was going to Sargodha on his car when
a speeding dumper hit his car. Resultantly, he died on the spot.
Police reached the spot and shifted the body to a local hospital.

UN peacekeeping chief saddened over Pakistani peacekeeper’s loss in Abyei

UNITED NATIONS, Jan 30 (APP): Head UN Peacekeeping Operations, Jean-Pierre Lacroix, has expressed grief over the killing of a Pakistani peacekeeper serving the U.N. Interim Security Force for Abyei, an area disputed by South Sudan and the Sudan, wile protecting civilians during the ongoing inter-communal violence.

In a message to Pakistan UN Ambassador, Munir Akram, he said: “I learned with great sadness the killing of a Pakistani peacekeeper in Abyei. I wanted to express to you, your government and the bereaved family, my deepest condolences.”

The fallen soldier was identified as Sepoy Muhammad Tariq, who embraced martyrdom, while four individuals, including two officers, were injured.

Lacroix thanked Pakistan for its contributions to UN peacekeeping around the world and wished “full and speedy recovery” to the injured.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Ambassador Akram said that he was deeply grieved to learn of the martyrdom of Sepoy Tariq.

He expressed his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and to the Armed Forces of Pakistan.

“Such supreme sacrifices are a symbol of Pakistan’s commitment to peacekeeping endeavors of the United Nations, ” Ambassador Akram said, noting that Pakistan ‘peacekeeping contingents have always distinguished themselves by their professionalism and devotion to duty.

To date, 181 Pakistani peacekeepers have made the ultimate sacrifice while serving the cause of global peace under U.N.’s umbrella.

Pakistan, he said, remains committed to its role as a responsible member of the international community and will continue to contribute towards global peace and stability under the auspices of the United Nations.

Four dacoits held; cash, arms recovered in DI Khan

DERA ISMAIL KHAN, Jan 30 (APP):The Dera police have arrested four dacoits recovering Rs 120,000 cash and weapons from them in a successful operation conducted in the limits of Daraban police station.
According to a police spokesman, District Police Officer (DPO) Abdul Rauf Babar Qaisrani taking notice of a dacoity incident directed SDPO Daraban Circle Malik Anees ul Hasan to take immediate action for the arrest of the accused.
A team led by SDPO Malik Anees ul Hasan and Daraban Police Station SHO Abdul Ghaffar Khan, during a blockade, stopped a car bearing registration number (AFZ-568).
The persons travelling in that car introduced themselves as Muhammad Yousaf son of Qalam Khan, Zain Ullah son of Dilbar Khan, Ameer Zaman son of Yousaf, and Forsaan son of Javed.
The police recovered Cash Rs 120,000 and an ATM card which were snatched during a dacoity. Besides, the police also recovered two 30-bore pistols along with 12 cartridges from them.
The police also took the car used in the dacoity into their custody while further investigations were underway.

20 arrested, weapons recovered

SARGODHA, Jan 30 (APP):Police on Tuesday launched a massive crackdown against law violators and arrested 20 accused.
A police spokesman said police raided at different areas in the city and arrested Nadeem,
Shafique, Sabir, Shafqat, Rehman, Nouman, Tahir, Asghar, Waleed, Wakeel, Sbtain, Aslam, Khalid, Amjed besides recovering 200-liter of liquor,3.2 kg of hashish,1.2-kg of opium,
1.1 kg of heroin, 12 pistols ,seven guns and valuables.

Railways added ten more passenger trains in last year

ISLAMABAD, Jan 30 (APP): Pakistan Railways has added as many ten more passenger trains across the country in a bid to accommodate the passengers, provide better felicities to the commuters besides generate more revenue for the department.

“Before completing the network of 96 trains over the entire railway network, the last year the figure of trains is 86 which will be improved after the concerted efforts of the department,” an official in the Ministry told APP.

He said the facilities being provided to the passengers at railway stations include waiting rooms, vending stalls, station restaurants, wheelchairs, information desk, computer reservation facilities, a public address system to inform the public about the arrival/departure of trains, provision of paramedics and 1st aid facility, online reservation facility, passenger insurance service and revival of help desks at stations facilities in trains.

To a question, Pakistan Railways has beefed up precautionary measures to reduce passenger train accidents and only six minor accidents with no causality took place on the entire railway network in the country during the last three months.

“Only two train accidents have taken place in September, no accident happened in October and four train accidents occurred in November due to effective steps of the department,” he added.

He said the drastic decrease in accidents has been witnessed due to the efforts being undertaken to reduce trespassing at unmanned level crossings and unauthorized locations.

“Our staff is continuously monitoring the railway tracks across the country and conducting thorough inspection of the trains as the safety of the passengers is the top priority of the department,” he said.

The official said the department was taking several steps to improve the Railway services including the issues related to tracking maintenance that was given top priority.

He said that the punctuality of trains was improved and all the trains were being monitored, reviewed, and rectified while to facilitate the passengers, a mobile application “Pak rail live” has also been launched for real-time tracking of trains.

852 power pilferers arrested during last 5 months, Rs 68 million recovered

MUZAFFARGARH, Jan 30 (APP):Official teams of Multan Electric Power Company (Mepco) accompanying police have arrested 852 power pilferers during last five months and recovered Rs 68.59 million out of a total Rs 81 million fine imposed on exactly 1601 power pilferers in Mepco Muzaffargarh circle.
Operation against power pilferers and defaulters was continuing under the supervision of chief engineer planning and engineering and superintending engineer Muzaffargarh circle, Mepco spokesman said on Tuesday.
Mepco teams detected 1601 consumers involved in stealing power during operation from Sep 7, 2023 to Jan 29, 2024 and overall a sum of Rs 81.366 million fine was imposed on them and a sum of over Rs 68.59 million stood recovered. They included 1530 domestic consumers, 57 commercial consumers, eight (8) Tube Well consumers and six (6) industrial consumers. Mepco officials have sent applications to police for registration of cases against all the 1601 power pilferers and cases against 1560 power pilferers have been registered.

Murree snowfall forecast; all departments on high alert

RAWALPINDI, Jan 30 (APP):Murree district administration after snowfall forecast by the Meteorological Department for the ‘The Queen of the Hills’, Murree on Tuesday put all the departments concerned on high alert.
According to a Murree district administration spokesman, the MET office had forecasted rain and snowfall for Murree on Tuesday night and Wednesday.
In addition to moderate to heavy rain and snowfall during this period, the weather would remain cold and partly cloudy in Murree, Galliyat and surrounding areas.
The minimum temperature is likely to be 00 to 02 degrees Celsius and maximum 07 to 09 degrees Celsius.
In view of the possibility of snowfall, the district administration put all the departments concerned on high alert and issued an advisory for the tourists. The tourists were advised to adopt all possible precautionary measures.
The tourists were urged to get weather updates before visiting Murree, he said adding, tire chains must be used in snowy areas.
The tourists were also asked to follow the traffic rules to ensure smooth flow of traffic on the roads.
He informed that 13 tourist facilitation centers had been established at various places to help and guide the tourists.
In case of any emergency, Punjab emergency service, Rescue- 1122 could be contacted while the tourists could also use Tourism Helpline-1421, and PDMA Helpline-1129.

Adulterated milk wasted

SARGODHA, Jan 30 (APP):The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) on Tuesday launched a massive crackdown against unwholesome milk.
The PFA spokesman said the PFA teams raided at different shops and dairies.
They found three diaries which were selling adulterated milk.
The PFA seized 500-liter of unhealthy milk from the dairies while the owners, including Ghulam Nawaz, Muhammad Mushtaq and Ahmed, were fined.

Nazia Jamshed Dasti, wife of Jamshed Dasti who has emerged as potential candidate, is ready to contest as an independent candidate but potentially as PTI’s candidate in NA-176.
Shaesta Kanwal, another woman candidate, is also contesting independently from NA- 175.
Former MPA Farooq Khar’s daughter Nadia Farooq Khar is a PTI-backed candidate from PP-277.
Shehrbanu, daughter of former MNA Basit Sultan Bukhari, is contesting on PML-N ticket from NA-177. His mother and wife of Basit Sultan Bukhari, Zahra Basit Bukhari, is contesting as an independent candidate from PP 274.
