Transparency Int’l organizes capacity building training on climate sensitive budgeting

PESHAWAR, Aug 07 (APP):Transparency International Pakistan organized a Capacity Building Training of Government Officers on Climate Sensitive Budgeting and Climate Finance Transparency.
According to a press release issued here on Wednesday, the workshop aimed to enhance the capacity of climate-related departments in understanding climate finance, planning processes and integrating transparency, and providing tools for tracking climate finance.
Senior officers from around 25 departments including Climate Change, Forest and Wildlife, Irrigation, Planning and Development, Livestock, Agriculture, Energy, Finance, Urban Development departments and Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) and Environment Protection Agency (EPA) attended the training.
Climate change and climate finance experts, Azmat Shahi, and Dawar Hameed Butt discussed climate financing frameworks, tools for tracking, monitoring and evaluation of climate finance, climate sensitive budgeting, global best practices for integrity and transparency in climate finance and the incorporation of these practices into the provincial public financial management system.
The experts discussed that capacity building of government departments is crucial to access the international climate finance and maintaining transparency into it.
The session also mainstreamed the awareness about scoring checklist developed by TI Pakistan. The scoring checklist focuses on incorporating climate-sensitive metrics into planning, budgeting, and implementation processes.
It was also discussed that auditing institutions such as Accountant General of Pakistan and anti-corruption bodies also need expertise in climate change. This expertise would ensure that audits consider not only the financial aspects but also environmental and climate factors, such as environmental impact assessments and carbon reduction efforts.
Saba Ali Asghar, Chief Environment and Climate Change briefed the participants that  government approach was in process of approving Climate Change Policy 2024.
Justice (R) Ather Saeed, Board of Trustees TI Pakistan welcomed the participants, and said, “Judiciary has played an important role in pushing to address the effects of climate change.”
“There is a need for strong environmental tribunals at local levels for pushing on environmental issues,” he added.

IRSA releases 499,700 cusecs water

ISLAMABAD, Aug 7 (APP): Indus River System Authority (IRSA) on Wednesday released 499,700 cusecs water from various rim stations with inflow of 550,500 cusecs.

According to the data released by IRSA, water level in River Indus at Tarbela Dam was 1538.00 feet and was 140.00 feet higher than its dead level of 1,398 feet. Water inflow and outflow in the dam was recorded as 330,300 cusecs and 302,600 cusecs respectively.

The water level in River Jhelum at Mangla Dam was 1206.80 feet, which was 158.80 feet higher than its dead level of 1,050 feet. The inflow and outflow of water was recorded as 33,100 cusecs and 10,000 cusecs respectively.

The release of water at Kalabagh, Taunsa , Guddu and Sukkur was recorded as 323,900, 410,100, 306,200 and 218,100 cusecs respectively. Similarly, from River Kabul, a total of 80,400 cusecs of water were released at Nowshera and 78,800 cusecs released from River Chenab at Marala.

DC inaugurates Monsoon tree plantation drive

BAHAWALPUR, Aug 07 (APP):Deputy Commissioner (DC) Bahawalpur Zaheer Anwar Jappa has inaugurated the monsoon tree plantation campaign by planting a “Largostomya” sapling in the Special Children Park near University Chowk.
On this occasion, the Director General of Parks and Horticulture Authority Rubina Abbasi, CEO of Education Muhammad Akram, and other officials who planted saplings as part of the tree-planting campaign were also present.
Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Commissioner Zaheer Anwar Jappa emphasized that evergreen and shade-providing plants should be planted during the current tree-planting initiative and that special attention should be given to their care and watering alongside planting.

Traffic accident in Muzafarabad claims two lives, leaving several injured

ISLAMABAD, Aug 7 (APP):A truck crushed several vehicles in Kohala Neelam Point, area of Muzafarabad, a private news channel and rescue reported on Wednesday.
According to the details, two people, including a girl were killed and several sustained multiple injuries in the accident.
According to rescue officials, the accident occurred due to the brake failure of the truck.

DC Dera for ensuring full implementation over KP CM ‘Awami Agenda’ program

DERA ISMAIL KHAN, Aug 07 (APP):Deputy Commissioner Dera Ms. Sarah Rehman has said that the implementation over Chief Minister’s ‘Awami Agenda’ program would be ensured in letter and spirit in order to extend relief to citizens.
She stated this while chairing a meeting held here at his office regarding the Chief Minister’s ‘Awami Agenda’ program which was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner Relief Ahad Yousaf, assistant commissioners, officers and representatives of different departments concerned including Health, Education, Police, Transport, Food, Agriculture, Livestock, Irrigation, Public Health Engineering, Civil Defense, Industries, Halal Food Authority and others.
The deputy commissioner directed all the departments concerned to make effective measures to ensure complete implementation over the chief minister’s ‘Awami Agenda’ program so that the development in the district and provision of maximum relief to citizens could be ensured.
During the meeting, a detailed briefing was given regarding the ‘Awami Agenda’ program of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister while the departments were informed about their responsibilities and assignments regarding the program.
Speaking on the occasion, the deputy commissioner said that all the departments should fulfill these responsibilities efficiently within the given timeline so that the maximum benefits of the program could be extended to the people.
She said the performance of the departments would be reviewed in the follow-up meetings.

Former provincial minister’s car met with accident in Khairpur

ISLAMABAD, Aug 7 (APP):Former Provincial Minister, Mukesh Chalwa’s car met with an accident on National Highway in Khairpur, a private news channel and police reported on Wednesday.
According to the reports, relatives of the former Provincial Minister were travelling in the vehicle when the accident happened.
The police reached the spot immediately after the incident was reported. The dead body and the injured were transported to the nearby hospital.

AIOU awards financial assistance to 206 students

ISLAMABAD, Aug 07 (APP):Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) has awarded final project grants to 31 students and merit-based scholarships to 175 students of BS, MS and PhD programmes of the Spring 2024 semester.
A ceremony was held at the university’s main campus, presided over by Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Nasir Mahmood.
In his address, Dr. Nasir Mahmood stated, “The university is committed to providing quality education as well as financial assistance to ensure that no child in Pakistan is deprived of education.”
He highlighted the university’s financial assistance schemes, including merit-based scholarships, need-based support, earn-to-learn programs, final-year project grants, and free education for students from Balochistan, FATA, and Gilgit-Baltistan (GB).
Professor Dr. Nasir Mahmood also noted that over the past two years, the university has allocated 120 million PKR to these schemes, benefiting more than 200,000 students.
Chairman of ASSF, Dr. Irshad Ahmad Arshad praised the students’ hard work and dedication. He reaffirmed that the AIOU is committed to bringing quality education to the students’ doorsteps, a commitment that has been recognized internationally.
The Vice-Chancellor not only encouraged the students but also assured them that whenever there is a need for achieving the noble goal of education, the Open University will be at the forefront in providing both financial support and an excellent environment, he maintained.
He commended the dedication of the Directorate of Students Affairs team and congratulated them on organizing a successful ceremony.
The event concluded with the Vice-Chancellor distributing awards to the students and expressing gratitude to the guests and participants.
The ceremony was attended by deans, principal officers, faculty members, students, and their parents.

Provision of best health facilities primary responsibility: CEO Health

RAWALPINDI, Aug 07 (APP):Chief Executive Officer (CEO) District Health Authority Rawalpindi Dr. Asif Arbab Khan Niazi has said that providing quality health facilities to the people is the primary responsibility of the health department. Serving the suffering humanity is a worshiping act, he said.
The CEO said this during his visit to THQ Hospital, Kotli Satian and Primary Health Center, Lehtrar, here on Wednesday.
According to the details, the CEO reviewed the attendance of hospital staff, the record of supply of medicine from the medical stores, cleanliness situation and other issues. He also inquired about the treatment facilities from the patients being provided by the hospital administration.
He asserted that negligence in dispensation of health facilities would not be tolerated.
He directed the concerned administrations to ensure their on time attendance and further improve the cleanliness.

MoU signed to introduce foreign language training in ICT Schools

ISLAMABAD, Aug 07 (APP):A landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed on Wednesday between the Federal Directorate of Education (FDE), National Vocational and Technical Training Commission (NAVTCC), and National University of Modern Languages (NUML).
This agreement paves the way for introducing foreign language training in selected schools of Islamabad.
The signing ceremony was graced by Minister of Federal Education and Professional Training, Dr. Khalid Maqbool, Rector NUML and Secretary Federal Directorate of Education.
As per the MoU, Six-month foreign language course will be imparted to the students of FDE and certificates will be given upon the completion of courses.
The selected schools in Islamabad will participate in the language courses.
This collaboration between FDE, NAVTCC, and NUML aims to equip students with foreign language skills, enhancing their global prospects and fostering cultural understanding.
“This initiative marks a significant milestone in our efforts to modernize education and empower our youth.” – Dr. Khalid Maqbool, Minister of Education said.

GIKI and UET sign MoU for enhanced academic, research collaboration

LAHORE, Aug 07 (APP):The Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology (GIKI) and the University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Lahore signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on Wednesday to strengthen collaboration in engineering, science, and technology.
The agreement aims to foster joint research, academic exchanges, and collaborative training programs. Key areas of focus include Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, Data Sciences, Blockchain, Cybersecurity, and Digital Twins. The institutions will also co-organize conferences, seminars, and workshops, and engage in joint research projects.
