7 gamblers arrested during raid

RAWALPINDI, Aug 07 (APP):Police have arrested seven gamblers and recovered stake amount Rs 13,000, 05 mobile phones from their possession during crackdown here on Wednesday.
According to police spokesman, New Town police conducted raid and held seven gamblers, identified as Shahada, Niazi, Karamat, Asif, Ishaq, Sajjad and Ghulam Yasin.
Police have registered separate cases against all of them and further investigation was in progress.
SP Rawal Faisal Saleem commended police teams efforts in arresting the culprits and said that the arrested accused will be challaned to the court with concrete evidence and will be punished, he said that gambling is the root of other social evils, strict action will be continued against such social elements.

Mohsin Naqvi approves grant of 200-acres for Zoo, Safari park project in Islamabad

ISLAMABAD, Aug 07 (APP):Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi on Wednesday approved a grand project of 200-acres of international standard zoo and a safari park in Islamabad, set to house 5,000 animals and birds from around the world.

He said that it would be a grand project to establish Pakistan’s first international standard zoo and safari park in Islamabad where 200-acre facility will be home to 5,000 animals and birds, with 2,000 to be introduced in the first phase.

The minister directed the registration of the zoo and safari park with the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums and instructed officials to finalize all matters related to the project swiftly.

The foundation stone of the project is expected to be laid down in October.

The project, reviewed in a meeting chaired by Minister Naqvi at the CDA headquarters, aims to increase tourism in Islamabad and provide world-class recreational facilities to citizens.

Chairman CDA Mohammad Ali Randhawa briefed the meeting on the project’s details.

This development marks a significant step towards enhancing Islamabad’s recreational infrastructure and promoting tourism in the capital city.

President emphasizes upon discouraging fake news, disinformation

ISLAMABAD, Aug 07 (APP): President Asif Ali Zardari on Wednesday underlined the need for discouraging the spread of fake news and disinformation by promoting a culture of fact-checking and verifying information.

He said the media should uphold the highest standards of journalism and play its role in promoting tolerance, unity and ethical values in the society.

The president expressed these views while talking to Chairman Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) Muhammad Saleem, who called on him and presented PEMRA Report 2021-23, at the Aiwan-e-Sadr, President Secretariat Press Wing said in a press release.

Talking to chairman PEMRA, the president said that modern communication technologies had opened up new challenges and the media was required to play a responsible and constructive role in shaping the public opinion.

A code of conduct regarding the spread of misinformation and propaganda should be observed, he further stressed.

President Zardari also stressed upon the need of improving capacity of PEMRA by adopting modern tools and technologies and building a pool of talented human resources.

He opined that the media should also raise awareness about socio-economic issues, besides promoting a soft image of the country.

The chairman PEMRA briefed the [resident about the role and performance of PEMRA in the regulation and development of the media landscape of the country.

The president affirmed his support to further strengthen PEMRA.

ISLAMABAD, Aug 07 (APP): The Bangladesh A men’s cricket team will arrive in Islamabad on Saturday, 10 August, for two four-day and three 50-over matches against Pakistan Shaheens.

The matches will be played at the Islamabad Club, Pakistan Cricket Board said in a statement.

PSX loses 76 points

ISLAMABAD, Aug 7 (APP): The 100-index of the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) shed 76.85 percent on Wednesday, losing 76.85 points, a negative change of 0.10 percent, closing at 77,114.49 points against 77,191.34 points on the last working day.

A total of 447,531,644 shares were traded during the day as compared to 600,896,301 shares the previous day, whereas the price of shares stood at Rs 18.388 billion against Rs 17.127 billion on the last trading day.

As many as 440 companies transacted their shares in the stock market, 231 of them recorded gains and 160 sustained losses, whereas the share price of 49 companies remained unchanged.

The three top trading companies were Kohinoor Spinning with 70,040,159 shares at Rs 5.84 per share, Power Cement with 28,783,073 shares at Rs 4.98 per share and Pak Int. Bulk with 20,895,214 shares at Rs 5.36 per share.

Unilever Pakistan Foods Limited witnessed a maximum increase of Rs 114.06 per share price, closing at Rs 17,799.06, whereas the runner-up was Excide Pakistan Limited with a Rs 89.65 rise in its per share price to Rs 986.17.

Nestle Pakistan Limited witnessed a maximum decrease of Rs 85.22 per share closing at Rs 6,911.99 followed by Reliance Cotton Spinning Mills Limited with a Rs 60.38 decline to close at Rs 590.45.
