Monsoon tree plantation drive inaugurated
KOHAT, Aug 08 (APP): Administrator Afghan Migrants Kohat Daniyal Ali inaugurated a monsoon plantation campaign by planting saplings here on Thursday.
The plantation drive was kicked off on the instruction of deputy commissioner to ensure healthy environment for citizens.
Assistant Director Afghan Refugees Abdul Rahim, Security In-charge Kamal Hussain, Afghan Malik Aul Khan and other staff were also present on this occasion.
Chairman of Aqash Welfare Organization Isar Ali Bangash who also plated a sapling to mark launch of the drive said that the Afghan refugees will also plant more trees in the campus for ensuring clean and green environment in the district.
District Administrator Afghan Refugee Kohat Daniyal Ali Wazir while talking to the media said that pollution was increasing rapidly all over the world, for which we urgently need fresh oxygen.
He said that to eliminate the pollution in the air, it is necessary to plant more and more trees. This can provide a clean and healthy environment not only to the current generations but also for the future generations as well.
Daniyal Ali further said that the most effective way to control environmental pollution was to plant more trees and after planting trees, it was important to ensure their safety and care.
Info ministry organises quiz show among students to celebrate Independence Day
ISLAMABAD, Aug 08 (APP): Ministry of Information and Broadcasting Islamabad organized a quiz Show in commemoration of 78th Independence Day Celebrations of Pakistan here on Thursday at Information Service Academy.
A large number of students, teachers from different government schools of ICT and officials from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, and Information Service Academy had also participated in the quiz show.
Cash prizes were distributed among the winners and runner up students teams of the quiz show competition.
Executive Director General Information Service Academy Mr. Arshad Munir distributed the cash prizes and appreciation certificates among runner up team of IMCB G/9-4 and the winner team of IMCG F/10-2.
Speaking on the occasion as Chief Guest, Arshad Munir said that I hope the participating students had learn a lot and got more knowledge about their country’s history.
He also shed light on the sacrifices of our forfathers rendered for getting a separate homeland.
Pakistan, he said, was established on14 August, 1947 when Quaid-i-Azam made a history by achieving a separate country on the basis of a two nation ideology.
“Today’s event shows that our history is based on research, he said adding that it also ensures that our coming new generations were well aware of the Pakistan’s history”.
He said that we are an intelligent nation and achieving our status in the fields of sports, IT, education and other sectors across the world.
Today’s participation of students in the Quiz Show and knowledge about their history proved the new generations commitment and interest with their homeland, he remarked.
He also congratulated the students and teachers of FDE Schools and Colleges, and the Ministry of information and Broadcasting for holding this outstanding event.

Railways to restore Sir Syed Express on September 1
ISLAMABAD, Aug 08 (APP): Pakistan Railways has decided to restore Sir Syed Express (35UP/36DN) between Karachi Cantonment to Rawalpindi from September 1 under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP).
The Sir Syed Express (35UP) will depart from Karachi Cantonment at 9:00 PM via Hyderabad, Khanpur, Khanewal, Faisalabad, Sangla Hill, Wazirabad, Gujrat, and Jhelum, before arriving in Rawalpindi at 8:55 PM the following day, an official tod APP.
Likewise, he said the Sir Syed Express (36DN) will leave Rawalpindi at 1:30 PM and follow the same route, reaching Karachi Cantonment at 1:50 PM the next day.
He said the train will comprise one AC Sleeper, one AC Business class, one AC Standard class, four Economy Class coaches, a Dining Car, a Brake Van, and a Power Plant.
The official said that the scheduled stops include Drigh Road, Hyderabad, Rohri, Bahawalpur, Khanewal, Faisalabad, Sangla Hill, Hafizabad, Wazirabad, Gujrat, and Jhelum.
Additionally, he said that on its journey from Rawalpindi to Karachi, the train will make a stop at Landhi Railway Station.
Pakistan Red Crescent Society delegation visits Saudi Red Crescent Authority
ISLAMABAD, Aug 8 (APP): Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS), Chairman Sardar Shahid Ahmed Laghari on Thursday visited Saudi Arabia along with the delegation and was welcomed by President of the Saudi Red Crescent Authority (SRCA) Dr. Jalal bin Mohammed Al-Owaisi.
According to PRCS spokesman the visit is bound to bolster cooperation and help share expertise in humanitarian aid and relief efforts,
SRCA and PRCS explored avenues for collaboration, highlighting the importance of continuous dialogue and united humanitarian action.
Al-Owaisi President of SRCA commended the strong partnership between SRCA and PRCS, and emphasized their commitment to relief, humanitarian, and volunteer work under the umbrella of the International Federation of Red Cross and SRCA.
The Pakistani delegation was given a comprehensive overview of SRCA’s volunteer platform, training programs, and community awareness initiatives, and toured key facilities, including the Air Ambulance Operations Center and the National Ambulance Center. Pakistani delegation also witnessed firsthand the specialized vehicles deployed by SRCA during emergencies and crises.
Pakistan reaffirms desire to enhancing partnership with ASEAN to ensure peaceful, stable region
ISLAMABAD, Aug 8 (APP): Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar on Thursday expressed Pakistan’s desire to enhancing its partnership with Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN) in its quest for a peaceful, stable, and prosperous region.
“Let us take this opportunity to reflect on our shared achievement and renew our commitment to the principles that guide ASEAN’s Mission,” the Deputy PM said in his message on the occasion of ASEAN Day.
He said Pakistan remained steadfast in its support for ASEAN’s vision and looked forward to contributing to its ongoing success.
On the occasion, he felicitated Secretary General Dr. Kao Kim Hourn for his exemplary leadership and tireless efforts in advancing the ASEAN agenda.

Six dacoits held, looted booty recovered
FAISALABAD, Aug 08 (APP):Police arrested six dacoits of three criminal gangs in separate raids and recovered looted booty including cash, gold ornaments,2 motorcycles, cell phones and weapons during the last 24 hours.
Police said here on Thursday, a team of factory area police station conducted a raid near a graveyard on Premier Mill road and arrested two outlaws who were later identified as Saqlain and Latif,besides recovering Rs 7,000, cell phones and two pistols from their possession.
Terkhani police team raided and arrested two accused Nawaz and Abdul Rehman and recovered looted property from their custody.
Kurr police station held Akhtar Abbas and Faiz Shahzad from Chak No 593-GB and recovered two cell phones and pistols from their possession.
All the accused were sent behind the bars and investigation was underway.
Alert issued for whitefly and green aphid attack on cotton crop
LODHRAN, Aug 08 (APP): The District Cotton Crop Management and Monitoring Committee has issued an alert regarding attack of whitefly and green aphid on cotton crop.
Farmers have been advised to immediately spray Flunicamid pesticide at a dosage of 100 grams per acre to protect their crops.
This was told during a meeting chaired by Additional Deputy Commissioner General, Muhammad Asad Ali at the DC office here Thursday.
During the meeting, the measures for crop management, maximizing cotton production and providing guidance to farmers on modern agricultural practices were reviewed in detail.
The meeting was attended by Principal Agriculture Officer, Deputy Director Agriculture Extension Muhammad Zafar Malik, Deputy Director Public Relations Nouman Masood Khan, along with progressive cotton farmers, fertilizer and pesticide dealers, cotton ginners and representatives from various related departments.
Additional Deputy Commissioner General Muhammad Asad Ali said that the implementation of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s farmer welfare package worth Rs. 300 billion was being made.
He said that stabilizing the country’s economy relies on the cultivation of cotton crop as it was the backbone of the economy.
He directed the Agriculture Extension department to provide guidance to farmers in the field, focusing on cultivation of cotton on the maximum area and achieving higher yield.
Deputy Director Agriculture Extension Muhammad Zafar Malik briefed the meeting that the cotton cultivation target for Lodhran district was set at 2,82,930 acres while the crop was cultivated at 2,49,690 acres of land.
Farmers’ facilitation centers have been established across the district where farmers could purchase pesticides at a 10 to 15 percent discount. Furthermore, the registration process for the Kisan Card and dealers was underway while the last date for registration was set for August 15.
The Kisan Card will provide farmers with subsidies of up to Rs. 1.5 million under the Green Tractor Scheme, as well as facilities regarding interest-free loan and solar tube well schemes. The Agriculture Extension department has mobilized 40 teams across the district to assist farmers in adopting best practices for cotton cultivation, including the use of approved seeds, fertilizers, and pesticides, as well as ensuring timely irrigation.
The committee underscored the importance of using pesticides correctly to safeguard the cotton crops from harmful pests and achieving the targets for increased cotton cultivation and production.
