FIA foils smuggling bid of official medicines

PESHAWAR, Aug 08 (APP):The FIA Peshawar Zone during a successful operation, foiled smuggling bid of official medicines, said a FIA spokesman on Thursday.
According to detail, the FIA Peshawar Zone officials raided the ring road and the raid was conducted on a tip-off at the office of Lakh Goods Transport Company.
Large quantity of drugs smuggled from government hospitals of Punjab was recovered from the scene in the raid operation, FIA spokesman said.
A total of 19 cartons of surgical instruments were recovered in raids and the recovered cartons belonged to the Punjab Government. The drugs exported are worth millions of rupees, FIA spokesman said.
The official said that the sale of exported cartons was prohibited and an inquiry was registered against the accused and the investigation had been initiated.

PSX turns around to bullish trend, gains 759 points

ISLAMABAD, Aug 8 (APP):The 100-Index of the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) turned around to bullish trend on Thursday, gaining 759.73 percent, a positive change of 0.99 percent, closing at 77,874.22 points against 77,114.49 points on the last working day.

A total of 493,090,983 shares were traded during the day as compared to 447,531,644 shares the previous day, whereas the price of shares stood at Rs 25.846 billion against Rs 18.388 billion on the last trading day.
As many as 434 companies transacted their shares in the stock market, 182 of them recorded gains and 198 sustained losses, whereas the share price of 54 companies remained unchanged.
The three top trading companies were Kohinoor Spinning with 93,863,361 shares at Rs 5.82 per share, Fauji Fertilizer Bin Qasim with 33,971,570 shares at Rs 45.69 per share and Air Link Commun with 25,146,617 shares at Rs 120.54 per share.
Mari Petroleum Company Limited witnessed a maximum increase of Rs 259.89 per share price, closing at Rs 2,858.76, whereas the runner-up was Mehmood Textile Mills Limited with a Rs 57.13 rise in its per share price to Rs 662.13.
Reliance Cotton Spinning Mills Limited witnessed a maximum decrease of Rs 47.99 per share closing at Rs 542.46 followed by Hallmark Company Limited with a Rs 21.85 decline to close at Rs 367.90.

ANF seizes 48 kg charras; arrests three women drug traffickers

RAWALPINDI, Aug 08 (APP):Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) while conducting a raid on Thursday managed to recover 48 kg charras and arrested three women drug traffickers.
According to an ANF Headquarters spokesman, in a successful operation against drug smuggling near Motorway Toll Plaza Islamabad, huge quantity of drug was recovered.
He informed that acting on a tip-off, a suspicious car was stopped near Islamabad Motorway Toll Plaza. Instead of stopping the vehicle, the accused tried to escape from the scene. The ANF team cautiously pursued the vehicle and arrested three women. During the search, 40 packets of hashish weighing 1.2 kg were recovered from the car and a total of 48 kg hashish was seized.
The spokesman said that using women and children for drug smuggling is a matter of concern. This practice is becoming normal on part of drug traffickers which is harmful to the society.
A case has been registered against the accused under the Anti-Narcotics Act and further investigation is under process.

Imam Masjid Al-Nabawi meets Chairman Senate; emphasizes joint efforts for regional peace

ISLAMABAD, Aug 08 (APP): A Saudi delegation led by Imam Masjid Al-Nabawi Dr. Salah bin Mohammad Al-Budair on Thursday met with Senate Chairman Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani at the Parliament House during their visit to Pakistan.

Chairman Gilani highlighted the long-standing history of cooperation between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia across various sectors. He emphasized that the relations between the two countries are rooted in religious, cultural, and moral values. He further noted the significance of the Holy Mosques, particularly Makkah and Madina, as sacred sites for the Muslim Ummah.

Welcoming Imam Al-Budair to Pakistan, Chairman Gilani remarked that his presence in the country is a testament to the strong and brotherly relations between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia. He added that under the leadership of King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Saudi Arabia has always been a sincere friend of Pakistan.

Chairman Gilani briefed the esteemed guest on the overall regional situation, also highlighting the issues of Kashmir and Palestine. He stressed that the challenges faced by the Muslim Ummah are shared, and unity is the need of the hour to address them. He also underscored the importance of joint efforts to ensure peace and stability in the region and the world.

Chairman Gilani emphasized the importance of enhancing cooperation in the fields of religious education and research with Saudi Arabia. He expressed Pakistan’s desire to engage in academic exchanges and initiate joint research projects with the Kingdom. He also called for accelerating the exchange of parliamentary delegations, noting that such exchanges would help bring the people of both nations closer.

Furthermore, Chairman Gilani stressed the need to further strengthen trade and economic relations between the two countries. He remarked that Dr. Salah bin Mohammad Al-Budair’s visit would contribute to deepening the friendship and brotherhood between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia.

Chairman Gilani reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to working alongside Saudi Arabia to achieve shared goals and address common challenges. PML-N advocates dialogue for national betterment: Minister

ISLAMABAD, Aug 8 (APP):Minister for Maritime Affairs Qaiser Ahmed Sheikh said on Thursday the Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) has repeatedly initiated dialogues for the country’s betterment and strengthening democracy.
Speaking to a private news channel, he said that PML-N had proposed a charter of the economy as a solution to pull the nation out of the economic crisis that worsened during the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) regime.
He said that the government was also engaging with the protesters of Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) because their demonstrations follow lawful procedures.
The purpose of these negotiations, he said, is to resolve issues through democratic means.
Sheikh also condemned the events of May 9, labeling them as terrorist acts that cannot be tolerated and should be regarded as an attempt to rebel against the state.
He further pointed out that recent statements by the PTI founder acknowledged these anti-state activities.

ICT Admin prepares for Annual Urs of Imam Bari

ISLAMABAD, Aug 08 (APP): As the annual Urs of Shah Abdul Latif Kazmi, known as Bari Imam, approaches, the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) administration gears up to ensure a smooth event for the followers.

For this purpose, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Islamabad, Irfan Nawaz Memon, visited the shrine of Imam Bari Sarkar to oversee the preparations for the upcoming Urs, said the spokesman of ICT administration.

Accompanied by the Assistant Commissioner and senior officials from the Capital Development Authority (CDA), including the Director General of Building Control, Director of Sanitation, and officials from the Directorate of Municipal Administration (DMA), DC Memon conducted a thorough review of the arrangements.

The Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) from the city police was also present during the visit. The team assessed the security measures and facilities at various parts of the shrine, including parking, lighting, sanitation, and water supply.

DC Islamabad was briefed on the security and administrative plans to ensure a safe and well-organized event.

The Urs is scheduled to take place on August 15, 16, and 17.

DC Memon confirmed that all necessary security and administrative arrangements were in place. He assured that all facilities would be provided to the followers attending the Urs.

Max tree plantation essential to prevent increased pollution, temperature: Commissioner

MULTAN, Aug 08 (APP):Commissioner Multan Division Maryam Khan on Thursday stressed upon the need of maximum tree plantation to prevent increasing environmental pollution and temperature.
Inaugurating the monsoon tree plantation campaign at Central Jail road by planting a tree here, the Commissioner said that plantation of more than 150 shady trees had been completed at the road while more trees would be planted at others roads of the city. She said that rising environmental pollution and temperature turning into a challenge adding that these issues could be controlled through planting maximum trees.
The Commissioner maintained that more than 125,000 saplings would be planted across the region where special arrangements would be made for taking care of these saplings. She said that all concerned departments have been directed to ensure participation the tree plantation campaign to make it successful.
Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Wasim Hamid Sandhu said that city was being made clean and green through a comprehensive planning. He urged citizens to participate in the campaign and play their individual role for bringing positive changes in the city.
Director General Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA), Asif Rauf Khan said that the department was ensuring maximum tree plantation at green belts and parks of the city to make city clean and beautiful.  He said that the department was committed to upgrade recreational spots in the city.

OICCI, UNDP to work for sustainable, inclusive Pakistan

ISLAMABAD, Aug 08 (APP): Overseas Investors Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OICCI) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Pakistan to advance the vision of a more sustainable and inclusive Pakistan.

This alliance is set to spearhead a series of initiatives focusing on gender equality, diversity, inclusion and social impact investments, reflecting both organizations’ commitment to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), said a news release issued here Thursday.

During the MoU signing ceremony, OICCI CE/Secretary General, M. Abdul Aleem, expressed optimism about the partnership with UNDP, stating, “Together with UNDP, we are committed to leveraging our collective expertise to create impactful research reports, advocacy campaigns, and knowledge-sharing events.”

In his remarks, UNDP Pakistan Resident Representative Dr Samuel Rizk said, “The bankability of Pakistan is increasing, and this collaboration is a testament that businesses can be both profitable and socially responsible.”
Over the past two years, the OICCI has been at the forefront of climate advocacy in Pakistan, organizing Pakistan Climate Conference in 2022 and 2023. Insights from these conferences and COP28 have been encapsulated in two comprehensive climate reports. These reports serve as vital resources for policymakers and businesses alike, charting a path towards a greener future.

Additionally, the Chamber has consistently championed women’s empowerment through its annual Women Empowerment Awards, promoting a business environment that nurtures female entrepreneurs and leaders. The organization’s White Paper, “Increasing Women’s Inclusion in the Pakistan Economy,” provides actionable recommendations for enhancing gender equality and fostering inclusive economic growth, aligning with UN SDGs 5 and 8. These efforts reflect a broader commitment to creating positive social and environmental impacts.
