Salik refutes media reports of missing pilgrims in Iraq

ISLAMABAD, Aug 10 (APP): Minister for Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony, Chaudhry Salik Hussain on Saturday firmly rejected recent reports circulating in a section of media regarding the disappearance of 50,000 Pakistani pilgrims (Zaireen) in Iraq.

He clarified that he did not make any such statement during a Senate committee meeting and termed these claims entirely false and misleading.

Minister Salik informed that Pakistani pilgrims travel to Iraq for religious pilgrimage, or Ziarat, through private operators. However, the Ministry is actively working to enhance the facilitation process for the pilgrims, ensuring their safety and well-being during their spiritual journey, he maintained.

The minister has urged media outlets to verify facts before publishing such reports and reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the interests of Pakistani pilgrims abroad.

Police arrest two bike lifters with four motorcycles

RAWALPINDI, Aug 10 (APP):Police have arrested two bike lifters and street criminals and recovered four stolen motorcycles and other items from their possession, said a Police spokesman.
He informed that a team under the supervision of SHO, R.A. Bazar Police Station managed to net two bike lifters namely Bilal and Zeeshan and recovered four stolen motorcycles and other items from their possession.
A case has been registered against the accused while further investigation is underway.
Superintendent of Police, Potohar, Nasir Nawaz said the accomplices and facilitators of the accused would also be sent behind bars.

Chairman, CDA Bahawalpur transferred

BAHAWALPUR, Aug 10 (APP):Chairman, Cholistan Development Authority (CDA) Bahawalpur, Naeem Iqbal Syed has been transferred with immediate effect and until further orders.
Services and General Administration Department, Government of Punjab has notified his transfer. A notification issued by the Services and General Administration Department, Government of Punjab said: “Mr. Naeem Iqbal Syed, (PMS, (ex-PCS), BS-19) Managing Director, Cholistan Development Authority, Bahawalpur is hereby transferred with immediate effect and directed to report to Services and General Administration Department, Government of Punjab for further orders”.
The notification concluded that he was transferred by order of the Governor of the Punjab.

Shahid Afridi leads KSL trials, new dates announced for aspiring cricketers

ISLAMABAD, Aug 10 (APP): The organizers of the Kashmir Supreme League (KSL), the most prestigious and eagerly anticipated cricket league in Azad Jammu and Kashmir, have announced a revised schedule for their upcoming trials, taking into consideration the recent changes in weather conditions.

The trials are now set to begin on August 17, 2024, at the iconic Muzaffarabad Cricket Stadium, said a press release issued here on Saturday.

The first phase of trials will be conducted on August 17 and 18 at the Muzaffarabad Cricket Stadium for aspiring cricketers from Muzaffarabad and Neelum districts.

Following this, the trials for Bagh and Jhelum Valley districts are scheduled for August 20 at Bagh Cricket Stadium. On August 22, Rawalakot Cricket Stadium will host the trials for Haveli and Rawalakot districts.

The cricketing action will then move to Kotli on August 24, where the trials for Kotli and Pallandri districts will be held at Kotli Cricket Stadium. Finally, the trials will conclude on August 26 at Mirpur Cricket Stadium for participants from Mirpur and Bhimber districts.

Shahid Khan Afridi, a globally celebrated cricketer and former captain of Pakistan’s national team, continues to be the brand ambassador for the Kashmir Supreme League. His involvement has added significant prestige to the league, attracting widespread attention from both local and international cricketing communities.

Bahawalpur receives rain

BAHAWALPUR, Aug 10 (APP):Bahawalpur city received light rain here on Saturday afternoon which made the weather pleasant.
On Saturday, the region started to experience hot weather after 8 a.m. The temperature rose to 38 to 40 centigrade centigrades with a feeling of 45 centigrade, the local Met Office said. However, after noon, the weather started to turn cloudy which resulted in the rain at noon.
The local Met Office has forecast that the Bahawalpur region might receive more rain during the next 48 hours.

Police arrest three thieves; recover 800,000 gold ornaments

RAWALPINDI, Aug 10 (APP):Police have arrested three thieves and street criminals, members of the Akhlaq gang and recovered two stolen motorcycles, Rs 800,000, gold ornaments and other items from their possession, said a Police spokesman here on Saturday.
He informed that a team under the supervision of SHO, Chakri Police Station managed to net three thieves namely Akhlaq, ringleader, Qamar Zaman and Faizan and recovered two stolen motorcycles, Rs 800,000, gold ornaments and other items from their possession.
The arrested accused are record holder criminals and remained jail birds in snatching and motorcycle lifting cases. A case has been registered against the accused while further investigation is underway.
Superintendent of Police, Saddar, Muhammad Nabeel said the accomplices and facilitators of the accused would also be sent behind bars.

PM Shehbaz strongly condemns Israeli strike on Gaza school; says such barbarity has no precedent

LAHORE, Aug 10 (APP): Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Saturday strongly condemned an Israeli strike on a school-turned-shelter for displaced Palestinians in Gaza city and said that attack upon a children’s school was an open aggression and barbarity which had no precedent in the history.

“Israel has crossed all limits in its open aggression,” PM Office Media Wing, in a press release, quoted the prime minister as saying.

The prime minister called upon the international community, including the United Nations, to take practical steps to stop the ongoing Israeli aggression.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reiterated Pakistan’s demand of holding the leadership of Israel and its armed forces accountable for the genocide of Palestinians and war crimes.

Israel should be given strict punishment for its gruesome crimes, he said and stressed upon implementation of a verdict of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) against Israel.

The prime minister also reaffirmed Pakistan’s all-out moral and diplomatic support to the Palestinian brothers and sisters.

He prayed for the high ranks of shuhada who lost their lives in the attack and expressed condolences with the bereaved families.

Earlier, in the day, according to Palestinian officials, an Israeli strike on a school-turned-shelter for displaced Palestinians in Gaza city killed more than 100 people, including women and children.

According to the programme, power supply from Abdullah Pur and Jubilee feeders linked with 132-KV Old Thermal grid station, AZ Apparel, K&M, Dhanola Industrial, Sajjad Estate, new Dry Port and al-Makkah Export feeders attached with 132-KV Millat Road grid station, Super feeder connected with 132-KV Chiniot Road grid station, FIEDMC, ATH, Coca Cola, Orient Material, Karas Paint, Hayat Chemia, Daily JW and Ghani Ceramics feeders originating from 132-KV FIEDMC  grid station, Hyundai Nishat, Afridi Textile, Tapal Textile, Nishat Swits, Hayat Chemia No.2, Time Ceramics No.2, Sargodha Cloth, Maheen Textile and National Foods feeders linked with 132-KV FIEDMC-II grid station and Scarp-I feeder attached with 132-KV Chak Jhumra grid station will remain suspended from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. while Falko Textile, new Iqbal Colony, Sammundri Road, Samanabad, Amin Abad, Four Season, Korian Road, Nawabanwala and Dasoha feeders connected with 132-KV Sammundri Road grid station will observe shutdown from 6:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on Sunday (August 11, 2024).

Sargodha RPO stresses importance of effective investigations

SARGODHA, Aug 10 (APP):Regional Police Officer (RPO) Sargodha Shariq Kamal Siddiqui has emphasised the crucial role of circle officers in improving investigative procedures and ensuring convictions.
According to a press release, issued by DPO office, a one-day training workshop titled “360-Degree Review of SDPO Offices” was conducted at the RPO office under the directives of the RPO on Saturday. The workshop aimed to provide all Sub-Divisional Police Officers (SDPOs) with necessary knowledge regarding various government matters.
All SDPOs from Sargodha district attended the workshop in person, while their counterparts from Mianwali, Khushab, and Bhakkar participated via video link.
Master trainers DSP Khatib-ur-Rehman and DSP Badir Munir addressed the participants, shedding light on the reasons behind shortcomings in crime scene investigations, the collection of material evidence, and court testimonies.
During the workshop, participants shared their insights and proposed various recommendations, including the utilisation of modern technology and the provision of necessary training to investigating officers. Additional Deputy Inspector General (ADIG) Aamir Mushtaq was also present on the occasion.
The RPO’s initiative highlights the commitment of the Sargodha police to enhancing the quality of investigations and ensuring justice for victims.

DC took notice on news about ghost doctors, forms probe committee

SUKKUR, Aug 10 (APP):Deputy Commissioner (DC) Khairpur, Syed Ahmed Fawad on Saturday has taken action against news published in the media about 35 absentee/ ghost doctors.

The DC has formed a three-member probe committee comprising the additional deputy commissioner, the medical superintendent of Khairpur Medical College Hospital and the additional health officer of Khairpur.

The committee has been strictly directed to submit its findings within seven days.
