CCTV cameras in use for monitoring polling process says DIG Sukkur

SUKKUR, Feb 08 (APP): Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Sukkur, Abdul Hameed Khoso on Thursday visited various sensitive polling stations and checked security arrangements.
Talking to media persons, he said that the polling process was being monitored with CCTV cameras to ensure a safe and secure atmosphere.
He said that special security arrangements had been put in place for holding peaceful elections in Khairpur and Ghotki districts.
DIG Sukkur said that the police department was working in collaboration with the local administration, the Election Commission of Pakistan, and other law enforcement agencies. He said that these districts were divided into sectors, and sub-sectors to beef up the security and to deal with any emergent situation.
The police department had deputed more than 12255 police personnel in the Sukkur division to provide safety and security to the voters at all polling stations, DIG said adding that no untoward incident was reported from any part of these districts so far.

CM KP inspects Election Control Room in Home Department

PESHAWAR, Feb 08 (APP): Caretaker Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Justice (Retd) Syed Arshad Hussain Shah on Thursday visited the Election Control Room established at the Home Department, overseeing the latest developments in the electoral process.
Provincial Minister Aamer Abdullah, Chief Secretary Nadeem Aslam Choudhry, Inspector General of Police Akhtar Hayat Gandapur, and Additional Chief Secretary Home, were present during the briefing.
They were briefed that polling is underway at all 15,607 polling stations throughout the province.
Adequate electoral equipment and staff have been timely deployed to every station, including those in the snow-covered. All routes in these areas are reported to be accessible at present.
The election process is smoothly progressing throughout the province, with the Election Commission coordinating with administrative and security authorities.
The provincial government has introduced new software for online monitoring of administrative and security matters related to the electoral process.
This software facilitates real-time information gathering from all polling stations, ensuring efficient communication even in the event of internet service disruptions. It contains comprehensive data on polling stations and election staff.
To ensure continuous communication, alternative arrangements, including telephone and mobile phone access, have been made with all polling stations. The control room will remain operational without any interruptions until the receipt of the last ballot box.
Expressing satisfaction with the election arrangements, the Caretaker Chief Minister affirmed confidence in the coordination efforts and instructed relevant authorities to stay alert to handle any unpleasant or disruptive situations effectively.

Foolproof security to ensure peaceful elections.

LAHORE, Feb 08 (APP):Over 26,000 police, army and rangers personnel were performing duty to ensure peaceful general elections in Lahore.
According to a spokesperson, CCTV cameras have been installed at more than 4,300 police stations in the city, while Capital City Police Officer (CCPO), Bilal Siddique Kamyana and Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Operations Lahore, Ali Nasir Rizvi were patrolling different areas of the city.
Lady police officers have been deployed at women’s polling stations.
Polling in Lahore’s 14 national and 30 provincial assemblies constituencies started at 8 am and will continue till 5 pm.
Heavy police contingents have been deployed in sensitive areas to prevent any violation of Section-144 during polling.

ECP directs PEMRA to issue warning to two private channels for code violation

ISLAMABAD, Feb 08 (APP): The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Thursday directed the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) to issue a warning to two private channels for not following the commission’s code of conduct for the media.
The commission has written a letter to PEMRA, urging it to caution the two channels for broadcasting live interviews of political leaders on February 7.
According to election commission regulations, political campaigning concluded at midnight on February 6-7.
The ECP’s code of conduct stipulates that at midnight between February 6 and 7, media outlets must stop airing political campaigns, promotional advertisements, and written materials from any political parties.
The ECP highlighted in its letter that the media is not complying with the guidelines set forth for media coverage.
