DC Abbottabad chairs District Polio Coordination Committee

ABBOTTABAD, Feb 12 (APP):Deputy Commissioner Abbottabad, Khalid Iqbal on Monday said that parents should ensure the administration of polio drops to their children during the anti-polio campaign from March 2 to 8, 2024.
He expressed these views while chairing a meeting regarding the organization of the anti-polio campaign from March 2 to 8.
Preparations for the anti-polio campaign, staff training, provision of security, and review of measures by the health department were discussed in the meeting. During the five-day anti-polio campaign in Abbottabad district, more than 235,697 children aged up to 5 years will be administered polio drops, while 212,145 children aged 6 months to 5 years will be given Vitamin A drops.
For the anti-polio campaign, 1448 mobile teams, 42 transit teams, 105 fixed centers, and 1583 teams have been formed. Deputy Commissioner Abbottabad instructed the health department to ensure all necessary measures for the successful conduct of the campaign, ensuring vaccination of all children and providing facilities to the health department, and complete security from the police.
The DC emphasized that all departments and revenue magistrates should ensure the supervision of teams and vaccination in their respective areas. In his message, he urged all citizens, especially parents, to cooperate with the teams during the campaign to administer polio drops and Vitamin A drops to their children aged up to 5 years.
He directed the health department and information department to issue instructions to make the campaign more effective through print, electronic, and social media to provide awareness to parents about the campaign and complete vaccination of children.
Deputy Commissioner Abbottabad also urged the mosques to raise awareness among people about the campaign.

Membership for FDA City Sports Complex to commence very soon

FAISALABAD, Feb 12 (APP):Faisalabad Development Authority (FDA) Director General Muhammad Asif Chaudhry said on Monday that membership of Sports Complex FDA City would commence very soon to facilitate the players and sports lovers with high standard facilities.
During a meeting, he conducted interview of coaches for different indoor games and
said that FDA Sports Complex was a state-of-the-art project which would facilitate
the male and female players in separate courts, gyms, swimming pools and grounds.
He said that a comprehensive strategy had been chalked out to run the affairs of sports
complex in a most befitting manner. In this connection, the management committee
of the complex was fully active, he said, adding that latest machinery and gadgets
were also provided to all gyms.
He said that swimming pools were construction with the use of latest technology
by keeping the weather conditions in view so that these pools could be used round
the year.
He said that expert coaches were inducted for coaching of their newcomers and
young players.
FDA Director Finance Yasir Ejaz Chattha and others were also present on the occasion.

CM pays tributes to policemen

CM inaugurates medicine warehouse up-gradation project

LAHORE, Feb 12 (APP):Punjab Caretaker Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi inaugurated the expansion and up-gradation project of the state-of-the-art Medicine Warehouse at Gurumangat Road, Gulberg here on Monday.
During his visit, he inspected the facility and reviewed the process of storing medicines. He expressed his satisfaction over the meticulous attention to international standards in medication storage.
Secretary Health provided a comprehensive briefing on the project’s expansion and upgradation, emphasizing the importance of maintaining international standards in medicine storage for safe and timely distribution. The CM commended the performance of Health Secretary and his team, affirming the optimal utilization of resources for enhancing the healthcare sector. He highlighted the significant results achieved through government initiatives aimed at improving the health sector.
Addressing the media, Mohsin Naqvi emphasized a zero-tolerance policy towards incidents akin to May 9, stating preparedness to swiftly address any such occurrences. He encouraged individuals with complaints regarding the Election Commission’s procedures to exercise their legal rights and seek redressal through proper channels. The chief minister stressed the importance of maintaining stability for Pakistan’s development and the welfare
of its citizens, expressing hope for ongoing progress and prosperity under the incoming administration.
Mohsin Naqvi underscored the importance of bureaucratic efficiency, acknowledging the collective effort of his team in achieving success. He highlighted the substantial cost savings anticipated through the establishment of new warehouse, emphasizing the need for robust storage facilities to mitigate risks such as fire incidents witnessed in various hospitals. With the new warehouse boasting 1.740m square feet of space, the province is poised to effectively manage its annual procurement of medicines valued at Rs 40 billion, he added.
Provincial Ministers- Dr. Jamal Nasir, Amir Mir, Secretary Health, Secretary Communication and Works, Commissioner Lahore Division, and other officials concerned were also present.

158 booked for degrading environment

FAISALABAD, Feb 12 (APP):The environment protection department (EPD) got registered cases against the owners of 158 factories, brick kilns and vehicles for polluting environment in the district during the last 5.5 months.
Giving details, Deputy Director Environment Johar Abbas said on Monday that teams of environment protection department checked 830 industrial units uptill now from September 1, 2023 and challaned the owners of 178 factories on the charge of burning prohibited material in their boilers.
He said that premises of 89 boilers were sealed and imposed a fine of Rs 24.75 million on their owners besides getting cases registered against the owners of 90 units on sheer violation of environment protection laws. He said the environment teams also inspected 697 brick kilns during the same period
and challaned the owners of 104 kilns for running their kilns without zigzag technology.
The teams also sealed premises of 35 kiln houses and imposed a fine of Rs18 million on their owners besides getting 55 cases registered for violation of environment protection rules.
The environment teams also checked 1,111 vehicles on various routes in Faisalabad during 5.5 months and imposed a fine of Rs 24 drivers besides getting cases registered against the owners and drivers of 13 vehicles on the charge of emitting excessive smoke thus polluting the environment, he added.

Three suspects apprehended for house theft

RAWALPINDI, Feb 12 (APP):Police arrested three suspects involved in house theft in the jurisdiction of Airport police station here on Monday.
The prime suspect, identified as Akram, an employee, allegedly orchestrated the break-in at his owner’s house alongside his accomplices Imran and Rizwan.
The stolen items, including two Kalashnikovs, camera, and a mobile phone were also confiscated from their possession by the police.
Imran and Rizwan had already been challaned, according to a police spokesman. SP Potohar Nasir Nawaz commended the swift action taken by the police team, emphasizing that individuals involved in such activities will be brought to justice.

PCB announces match officials for PSL 9

ISLAMABAD, Feb 12 (APP):The Pakistan Cricket Board has announced the match officials for HBL Pakistan Super League 9, scheduled to take place across four venues from February 17 to March 18.
A total of 14 matches would be played from February 17 to 27 across Lahore and Multan while Karachi and Rawalpindi will stage 16 matches from February 28 to March 12, said a press release.
The match officials for the Qualifier, two eliminators and final, to be held in Karachi from March 14 to 18, would be announced in due course.
Four members of the ICC’s elite panel of umpires – Richard Illingworth, Chris Gaffaney, Ahsan Raza and Michael Gough – would be accompanied by Abdul Moqeet, Aleem Dar, Tariq Rasheed, Shozab Raza, Rashid Riaz, Faisal Afridi, Ruchira Palliyaguruge, Asif Yaqoob, Alex Wharf, Nasir Hussain, Imran Jawed and Muhammad Asif.
Among the foreign umpires, Illingworth, who has previously officiated in six editions of the league, has served as an umpire in 48 matches in HBL PSL. England’s Gough, who has appeared in four editions previously, has officiated 34 matches, followed by Wharf (11 matches) and Sri Lanka’s Palliyaguruge (three matches).
New Zealand’s Gaffaney would make his league debut, officiating his first match between Multan Sultans and Karachi Kings at the Multan Cricket Stadium in Multan on February 18.
Roshan Mahanama, who has officiated 97 HBL PSL matches and was also a former member of the ICC’s elite panel of match referees, would be in his ninth successive year and will lead a team of three match referees with other members being Ali Naqvi and Muhammad Javed.
The opening match between defending champions Lahore Qalandars and Islamabad United in Lahore will be officiated by veteran umpire Aleem Dar and Michael Gough on the field. Tariq Rasheed would be the TV Umpire while Shozab Raza will perform the duties of reserve umpire during the game. Muhammad Javed will perform duties of match referee in the match.

Anti-polio drive to start from February 26 in Bahawalpur

BAHAWALPUR, Feb 12 (APP):A five-day polio vaccination campaign will start on February 26, in which the polio vaccine will be administered to more than 824,000 children up to the age of five.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Headquarters Sumera Rabbani chaired a meeting in the committee room of the Deputy Commissioner’s office to review arrangements.
The meeting was attended by Chief Executive Officer Health Dr. Syed Tanveer Shah, Dr. Zeshan Rauf, Coordinator National Program Dr. Khalid Mahmood Arain, WHO representative Dr. Masood, Dr. Shiraz, Deputy Director Local Government Khurshid Ahmed, officials from the Health Department, and other relevant departments.
The Additional Deputy Commissioner Headquarters said that no child up to the age of five should be deprived of the polio vaccine during the anti-polio campaign.
She emphasized the need for monitoring of members of mobile teams, transit teams, and fixed teams on the ground.
She said that polio physically weakens children and it is essential to administer polio vaccine drops to protect children from polio and for parents to cooperate with the polio teams.
Before that, Dr. Shiraz briefed the meeting about the arrangements for the anti-polio campaign throughout the district. He informed that from February 26 to 28, mobile teams will administer polio vaccine drops to children up to the age of five by going door-to-door.
Children missed due to any reason will be administered the polio vaccine under the catch-up activity on February 29 and March 1. To make the anti-polio campaign successful, 3276 mobile teams, 195 fixed teams, and 136 transit teams have been formed, and the members of the polio teams are being trained.

Consequently, it said that consumers of load management will be carried out on 132 KV Peshawar University, Peshawar Cantt, Peshawar Industrial, Kohat, KDA, Shahibagh, Hangu, Warsak, Rajar, Peshawar City, Sakhi Chashma, Shabqadar, Rehman Baba, Rajar, Mattani grid connected feeders will face inconvenience.
It said that power supply will remain suspended from Jamrud Grid Station on 13th, 15th and 20th February from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. resultantly, consumers of Taj Abad 2 feeders will face inconvenience. The power supply will also remain suspended from Peshawar University Grid Station on 14th and 19th February from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. resultantly consumers of New Hayatabad 5 and Ring Road feeders will face inconvenience.
The power supply will remain suspended from Peshawar University Grid Station on 13th, 15th and 20th February from 9:00 a.m.to 3:00 p.m. resultantly consumers of University Campus, Canal Town, Malakandher, Engineering, Regi, Taj Abad, Taj Abad 2, Agriculture, Mera Achini, HMC, Ring Road, Danish Abad, Ghrib Abad, Rahatabad 1, CMB and Abdara feeders will face inconvenience. PSX witnesses bearish trend, loses 1,878 points

ISLAMABAD, Feb 12 (APP): The 100-index of the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) witnessed bearish trend on Monday, losing 1,878.43 points, a negative change of 2.98 percent, closing at 61,065.32 points against 62,943.75 points the previous trading day.

A total of 349,975,051 shares valuing Rs 12.745 billion were traded during the day as compared to 258,073,610 shares valuing Rs.12.529 billion the last day.

Some 354 companies transacted their shares in the stock market; 35 of them recorded gains and 300 sustained losses, whereas the share prices of 19 remained unchanged.

The three top-trading companies were K-Electric Limited with 50,348,573 shares at Rs.4.21 per share, WorldCall Telecom with 34,623,947 shares at Rs.121 per share and Oil and Gas Development with 14,939,483 shares at Rs.134.20 per share.

Pakistan Hotels Developers Limited witnessed a maximum increase of Rs.28.47 per share price, closing at Rs.455.68, whereas the runner-up was Ibrahim Fibres Limited with a Rs.10.00 rise in its per share price to Rs.410.00.

Mari Petroleum Company Limited witnessed a maximum decrease of Rs.127.10 per share closing at Rs.2,147.01, followed by Hoechst Pakistan Limited with Rs.80.00 decline to close at Rs.1,320.00.
