COAS, Iranian FM reaffirm to remain closely engaged, bar any spoilers to divide brotherly nations

RAWALPINDI, Jan 29 (APP): Foreign Minister of Iran Amir Abdollahian called on Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Syed Asim Munir here at the General Headquarters on Monday.

During the meeting, both sides reaffirmed the resolve to remain closely engaged and not allow any spoilers to drive a wedge between the brotherly nations, an Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) news release said.

“Pakistan and Iran are fraternal neighbours, and the destiny of both nations are intertwined,” both the dignitaries resolved.

Realizing the historical, religious and cultural ties that bind Pakistan and Iran, both sides emphasized on strengthening bilateral ties and fostering greater understanding of each other’s concerns.

The COAS underscored the centrality of respecting the other state’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, calling it sacrosanct, inviolable and the most important cardinal of state-to-state relationship.

The two sides observed that terrorism was a common threat that needed to be tackled through collaborative efforts, better coordination and intelligence sharing.

The COAS emphasized the need for sustained engagement and utilizing available communication channels to address security concerns.

Both sides agreed to operationalize the mechanism of deployment of military liaison officers in each other’s country at an early date to improve coordination and efficiency of response against common threats.

Both sides reiterated their commitment to peace, stability and prosperity in the border region which was identified as an indispensable requirement for the well-being of people living on both sides.

Contepmt case: LHC adjourns hearing of PTI founder’s plea against jail trial

LAHORE, Jan 29 (APP):The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Monday adjourned hearing of a petition filed by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder against his jail trial in the Election Commission contempt case.
The court adjourned the matter while allowing a plea by the Election Commission’s counsel for further time.
The commission’s counsel, Advocate Imran Arif Bhinder, had sought an opportunity for submitting more legal documents in the matter.
The three-member bench, headed by Justice Aalia Neelum, heard the petition filed by the PTI founder.
The petitioner had asked the court to set aside the Election Commission decision and direct it to hold an open trial.

Police facing shortages of lady cops, seek help from health, education departments

MUZAFFARGARH, Jan 29 (APP):Facing a shortage of lady constables, Muzaffargarh police have sought help from health and education departments through the deputy commissioner to make available female officials for deployment at polling stations for the February 8
general elections in the district.
Police spokesman Waseem Baloch, when contacted, told APP that DPO has sent a letter to the deputy commissioner
seeking deployment of female staff at female polling stations and booths from health and education departments.
Police sources said that the demand was sent in the light of instructions from the Election Commission of Pakistan
(ECP) that required police to deploy only female staff at women’s polling stations. Muzaffargarh police had only 154
lady constables against the requirement of a total of 1426 female staff.
He said, the police department usually seek help from other departments for the deployment of female staff particularly during elections and Ashoora-e-Muharram.

13 police stations to be modernized in 30 days: Dr Gohar

ISLAMABAD, Jan 29 (APP):Caretaker Interior Minister Dr. Gohar Ijaz on Monday said that the beautification of 13 police stations of the federal capital would be completed in 30 days.
       Speaking at the foundation stone ceremony of Golra police station, the caretaker minister said that government is focusing on modernizing police stations besides improving law and order situation in the federal capital.
Islamabad hospitals would also be made exemplary, he said adding that people of the federal capital would be provided all necessary facilities. IG Islamabad Police Dr. Akbar Nasir Khan, DIG, SSPs and other top police officers, representatives of the trade association and local dignitaries were also present on this occasion.
Caretaker Federal Interior Minister Dr. Gohar Ejaz said that caretaker Prime Minister has entrusted him with the Ministry of Interior, therefore, on the first day, he met with the IG Police and Commissioner Islamabad and asked them about the problems. On the occasion, IG Islamabad said that out of 26 police stations in the federal capital, the condition of 13 police stations is vulnerable.
            The interior secretary and other authorities were instructed to immediately decorate these police stations of Islamabad, after which, the work of beautification and decoration was started in 13 police stations situated in the federal capital. The renovation work of police stations would be completed in 30 days period, IG said.

Fourth edition Urdu translation novel ”Seeta Zainab” published

HYDERABAD, Jan 29 (APP):4th edition of the Urdu translation of the novel ”Seeta Zainab” Written by Eminent Sindhi Writer Zaib Sindhi has been published by Rang-e-Adab publication.
 According to details, Novel “Seeta Zainab” was translated by eminent writer Shahid Hanai and two editions of the book were published by Sputinik Lahore and classic publisher in 2014 respectively while another edition of the book was published by Meter link publishers (India) in December 2022 however it was not available in Pakistan but now published by Rang-e-Adab Publication.
 Muhammad Khan Shaikh popularly known as Zaib Sindhi do not need any praise, was born on 7th September 1957 in Khairpur Mir’s while Larkana is his native place and permanently living in Hyderabad.
Zaib Sindhi is multi-dimensional personality and at a time is a Story writer, Novelist, Drama writer, Columnist, Poet, Translator and Radio-TV Compare.
His more than 100 stories have been translated into Urdu as well as into English, Hindi, Bengali, Punjabi, Pashto, Balochi and Bihari Languages. His Urdu TV drama serial “Janasheen” has been telecasted in Pakistan as well as in Europe and America.
Seeta Zainab was the first novel of Sindhi Language which was translated into Urdu by eminent writer Shahid Hanai. Two editions of this novel were published by classic publishers Lahore in 2014 while the third edition was published in India by Matterlink publisher Lakhnow in 2022 while the fourth edition was published by Rang-e-Adab publication in January 2024.

Security Plan finalized for upcoming general elections in Sanghar District

HYDERABAD, Jan 29 (APP):The Deputy Commissioner and District Returning Officer Sanghar Dr Imran ul Hasan Khowaja on Monday chaired a meeting of the security officials regarding the finalization of the security plan for the upcoming general elections and ensuring the provision of required equipment at polling stations.
The meeting also formed transportation and security plans. The Officers from the Pak Army, Rangers and SSP Sanghar Captain (Retd) Saddam Hussain, District Election Commissioner Shah Nawaz Brohi and other relevant officers were present in the meeting.
The Deputy Commissioner stated that all necessary measures would be taken to conduct transparent elections in the Sanghar district, and no leniency would be shown to anyone disrupting peace. He informed that camp offices have been established in Sanghar, Shahdadpur and Khapro to deliver equipment to polling stations.
The DC mentioned that after the election process, the Presiding Officer will be provided security by the Pakistan Army, Police and Rangers till the submission of the results to the Returning Officer. SSP Sanghar and the District Election Commissioner informed the meeting about the arrangements.
The officers of the Pakistan Army were informed about their plan to ensure a peaceful election process in the district. They assured that apart from the polling stations declared as highly sensitive, the soldiers and officers of the Pakistan Army will remain on patrol to deal with any untoward incident.

Work on HFH, and BBH to be completed in Feb; Commissioner

RAWALPINDI, Jan 29 (APP):Commissioner Rawalpindi Liaquat Ali Chatta on Monday said that the Out Door Department(OPD) of the Holy Family Hospital would become functional by February 3.
During a visit to HFH and Benazir Bhutto Hospital (BBH)to inspect the ongoing revamping work, he said that the deadline for rebuilding the Holy Family Hospital was set for February 20 while the emergency department would be completed by February 15.
Liaquat Ali said that work on revamping BBH’s OPD was in progress for Rs 160 million while 90 per cent upgradation work of the BBH had been completed. He said that the labourer was carrying out the work of both projects day and night that would be completed within the stipulated period.
The Commissioner said that all resources were being utilized to ensure the provision of the best healthcare facilities to the residents of Rawalpindi and its adjoining areas and people would avail the state-of-the-art facilities after completion of these projects. Vice Chancellor Rawalpindi Medical University Dr Umar, MS Holy Family Raja Khalid Janjua, and other concerned officials were also present.

           Dr. Gohar Ejaz said that round-the-clock accessibility of ‘Khunjarab Pass’ is a golden opportunity for increasing exports. He said increasing exports and traffic flow to that part of the region would also open vast employment opportunities.         He said that trade centres would be established in Gilgit-Baltisan for marketing local goods.  He said that government will jointly introduce the area of Gilgit-Baltistan to the international community so that its natural beauty could be exploited in a befitting manner.
          “Gilgit-Baltistan has vast opportunities for exports of fruits and mineral resources especially precious stones, ” said Chief Minister Gilgit-Baltistan.

Separate portal to be established for addressing problems of business community: Ejaz

ISLAMABAD, Jan 29 (APP):Wafaqi Mohtasib, Ejaz Ahmed Qureshi on Monday said that a separate portal would be established soon for addressing genuine problems of business community.
         Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CC&I), plays a key role in every society and a separate portal would be set up for the chamber to resolve the problems being faced by the business community, he said while talking to a delegation of the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry headed by Ashan Zafar Bakhtawari, which called on him here.
             Vice Har-ul-Islam, Malik Nadeem Akhter, Ch. Maqsood Tabish, Raja Muhammad Imtiaz Abassi and Col (Retd) Kamran Baig were also present on this occasion.
         “If the complaints appearing on the portal are not resolved by the agencies concerned within the period of 30 days’ these would be automatically transferred to Wafaqi Mohtasib Secretariat and the action would be initiated accordingly, ” Ejaz said.
         Wafaqi Mohtasib said that  ‘Business and Industry’ employs a large number of people in the country, adding that we are committed to speedy resolution of their problems.  He asked the delegation to set up a committee to apprise this Secretariat of their pressing problems in writing. He further stated that our doors are open for the industrial sector’s people on 24/7 basis and they may approach us with regard to their complaints.
         Nearly 200 federal government entities and departments fall under our purview and this office has resolved over 194,000 complaints in the outgoing year of 2023, said Wafaqi Mohtasib.
       Earlier, the leader of the delegation requested the Wafaqi Mohtasib to appoint a focal person for the business community for fast-track resolution of their problems. Wafaqi Mohtasib assured the delegation of his full support in this regard. Ejaz Ahmad Qureshi informed that our 22 Regional Offices and Complaint Centres are there to take care of the public complaints and people belonging to the far-flung areas of the country are benefitting from this arrangement.
                We would open Reginal Offices in Gilgit Baltistan & Azad Kashmir soon, he disclosed.

PM reaffirms Pakistan’s commitment to strengthen ties with Iran

ISLAMABAD, Jan 29 (APP):Foreign Minister of Iran Hossein Amir-Abdollahian on Monday called on Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar and discussed matters of mutual interest.
Underscoring close relations between Pakistan and Iran, the prime minister reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to further consolidate bilateral ties.
He also emphasized the need to address common challenges through collaborative and cooperative approaches, rooted in the respect for international law and the principles of the United Nations Charter, in particular territorial integrity and sovereignty of both Pakistan and Iran.
The prime minister conveyed his warm sentiments for President Ebrahim Raisi and extended an invitation for him to visit Pakistan at his earliest convenience.
