Haripur police conduct training sessions for security personnel ahead of general elections 2024

HARIPUR, Jan 26 (APP):In preparation for the upcoming general elections in 2024, the Haripur Police organized a comprehensive training session on Friday aimed at equipping police officers, youths, and female police officials who were assigned to security duties.
The sessions focused on imparting detailed briefings and instructions regarding the election code of conduct issued by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) for polling stations.
On the occasion, District Police Officer (DPO) Haripur, Muhammad Omar Khan, reaffirmed the commitment of the police to uphold peace and security during the electoral process. He emphasized the utilization of all available resources to ensure a safe environment.
Police officers and jawans deputed at polling stations were instructed to maintain alertness and vigilance throughout their duties. Special attention was directed towards monitoring any suspicious activities or individuals in the vicinity of polling stations.
Compliance with the code of conduct prescribed by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) was highlighted as a crucial aspect of their responsibilities.
The importance of maintaining law and order was underscored, with officers reminded of their duty to report any violations to the presiding and returning officers promptly.

Pakistan, St. Kitts & Nevis establish diplomatic relations

NEW YORK, Jan 26 (APP): Pakistan and St. Kitts & Nevis, a Caribbean country, Thursday established formal diplomatic relations at a ceremony held at the Pakistan Mission to the United Nations in New York.

Pakistan’s UN Ambassador Munir Akram and her St. Kitts & Nevis counterpart, Dr. Mutryce Williams, signed a joint communique to formalize the relationship between their countries.

Saint Kitts and Nevis, which gained independence in 1983, is a dual-island nation situated between the Atlantic Ocean and the Caribbean Sea.

Speaking on the occasion, Ambassador Akram said that the formal establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries would open up avenues for cooperation in several fields such as finance, trade, investment, and information technology.

Ambassador Akram said that it would provide an opportunity to the representatives of both countries at different tiers to have close and meaningful interaction, aimed at benefiting from each other’s experiences.

He said he looked forward to a renewed partnership with the Permanent Mission of St. Kitts & Nevis on the areas of common interest at the bilateral and multilateral forums.

On her part, Ambassador Williams thanked the Pakistan Mission for hosting the ceremony. The two countries, she said, might be located at the far ends of the world, but they have had mutual respect and goodwill for each other.

The Ambassador said that the formal establishment of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and St. Kitts & Nevis would lead to cooperation in different fields, especially trade, tourism and education.

Shahera expresses condolence over demise of senior journalist

ISLAMABAD, Jan 26 (APP):The Federal Secretary of Information and Broadcasting, Shahera Shahid, expressed grief and sorrow over the death of senior journalist Pervaiz Shaukat on Friday.
The federal secretary of information expressed heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved family over his demise.
Shahera Shahid said, “It is sad to hear that Pervaiz Shaukat’s is no more. Indeed, he was a talented and hardworking journalist.
She said the deceased dedicated his entire life to the profession of journalism and the rights of the journalist community.
Shaheera Shahid said, “His valuable services in the field of journalism will always be remembered.”
She prayed to Allah Almighty to rest the departed soul in eternal peace and grant courage to the bereaved family to bear this loss with fortitude.

Two dacoits held during police encounter

MULTAN, Jan 26 (APP):Two dacoits who were wanted by police in dozens of cases, including the murder of a security guard and shop robbery, were arrested in injured condition during a police encounter near Basti Nau in the jurisdiction of Gulgasht police station.
According to a police spokesman, New Multan police received a call that four armed robbers committed a robbery at M.A. Jinnah Road and fled from the scene.
SHO New Multan Ali Hassan Gillani, along with his team, started to chase the fleeing dacoits.
SHO Gulgasht Rao Zia-ur-Rehman tried to stop two motorcycles during a police picket near Basti Nau. The bandits opened fire on the police team.
In retaliation, two dacoits who were injured due to the firing of their own accomplices were arrested by the police.
The two other dacoits managed to escape from the scene. The police cordoned off the area and started searching for the fleeing dacoits.
The injured dacoits, namely Maqsood s/o Nazir Ahmad and Haider Ali s/o Maqsood Ahmad, were shifted to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.
The arrested bandits were involved in the killing of a security guard during a dacoity bid at the Utility Bachat Bazar Baqirabad area a few days ago.
The case has been registered with the Gulgasht police station, and further investigation is underway.

46 children died of pneumonia in three hospitals in city so far

PESHAWAR, Jan 26 (APP):With the increase in the severity of the cold, the infection is becoming viral, and so far, 46 children have died of pneumonia in three major hospitals in the city.
Hospital officials told mediamen here on Friday that pneumonia was affecting children with low immunity, and a total of 46 children died of pneumonia in three hospitals in the city, including 20 patients each in Lady Reading and Khyber Teaching Hospitals and six in Hayatabad Medical Complex.
The hospital’s officials said that more than 700 children affected by pneumonia are being brought to OPD on a daily basis, and more than capacity children are being treated at Lady Reading Hospital.
“Most of the affected children belong to adjoining areas,” the officials confirmed.

Solangi grieved over demise of senior journalist Pervaiz Shaukat

ISLAMABAD, Jan 26 (APP): Caretaker Federal Minister for Information, Broadcasting, and Parliamentary Affairs Murtaza Solangi expressed deep grief and sorrow over the death of PFUJ (Workers) President and senior journalist Pervaiz Shaukat on Friday.

In a condolence message, the minister for information expressed his heartfelt condolences and sympathy to the family of the deceased.

He said that he was deeply saddened to hear the news of Pervaiz Shaukat’s death, who was a strong voice for journalists.

Murtaza Solangi said, “He will always be remembered for his services to the field of journalism and the welfare of journalists.”

He prayed to Allah Almighty to rest the soul of the deceased in peace and grant courage to the bereaved family to bear this loss with fortitude.

2 dead, one injured in bus-motorbike collision in Rawalpindi

ISLAMABAD, Jan 26 (APP):At least two people died on the spot and another one suffered critical injuries when a bike they were traveling on was hit by a speeding Rawalpindi-bound bus on Friday morning.
Rescue sources informed that the bus was en route when it hit a motorcycle while taking a sharp turn near the IGP road.
As a result, two people lost their lives, a private news channel reported.
The bodies and injured were shifted to a nearby hospital.
The police reached the spot and started a search for the bus driver, who fled the scene quickly after the accident.
Police officials said they had seized the bus and were investigating the incident.
