No mpox case in Ahmadpur East: CEO health

BAHAWALPUR, Aug 23 (APP):District Health Authority Bahawalpur Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Aamir Bashir has denied the presence of any monkeypox patient in Ahmadpur East.
According to a report issued by his office, no case of monkeypox disease has been reported in Ahmadpur East area. The CEO Health said that a blood sample from a suspicious patient had been taken and sent to Provincial Public Health Reference Lab in Lahore for test.
The results indicated that the patient was negative for monkeypox, and there were no patients suffering from the disease in the Bahawalpur district.

Legal Aid Society delegation calls on Azam Nazeer Tarar

ISLAMABAD, Aug 23 (APP):A delegation of Legal Aid Society called on Federal Minister for Law and Justice & Human Rights, Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar on Thursday and discussed issues related to sexual and gender based violence and the organization’s extensive work across Pakistan.
The representatives provided detailed briefings on the ongoing efforts to combat sexual violence and the challenges in delivering legal aid to victims.
The minister expressed his commitment for a strategic collaboration between the Legal Aid and Justice Authority (LAJA) and the Legal Aid Society, noting that reforms to LAJA are already underway to enhance legal aid services across the country.
He further emphasized the ministry’s commitment to introducing comprehensive reforms in the Qanoon-e-Shahadat and the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) to protect the rights of victims and witnesses, ensuring that criminal proceedings remain free from external influence.
Tarar reiterated that these legal reforms will ensure the protection of every victim’s rights and that no influential party can manipulate or subvert the law.
He also commended the Legal Aid Society for its significant contributions and tireless efforts in combating sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) across the country.
He said the Legal Aid Society has been at the forefront addressing SGBV by providing legal aid, enhancing protection mechanisms, and working to build the capacity of stakeholders. Their efforts in creating a safer environment for women and children, particularly those affected by sexual and gender-based violence, have been crucial to advancing justice and human rights in the country.

DC visits city areas to inspect cleanliness

BAHAWALPUR, Aug 23 (APP):The ‘Clean Punjab Programme’ is underway throughout the district under Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s vision.
In this regard, Deputy Commissioner Bahawalpur Zaheer Anwar Jappa visited various areas of the city. He instructed the relevant officers and staff to ensure that cleanliness work was carried out regularly. He emphasised that officers from the Bahawalpur Waste Management Company should enhance field monitoring and keep the cleaning staff active. During the visit, he assessed the cleanliness situation within residential areas and business centers throughout the city as part of the Clean Punjab campaign. Chief Executive Officer Muhammad Naeem Akhtar and Assistant Manager Operations Tanveer Ahmed Minhas accompanied him.
During his visit to the old city, the DC made an unannounced inspection of Union Council No. 12, Mohalla Chishtian, and Mohalla Nawaban reviewing cleanliness arrangements in the relevant areas. He inquired with residents and business owners about the cleanliness efforts in their areas.
While speaking with citizens, he stated that maintaining a clean environment is not solely the responsibility of one organisation; rather, every individual living in society must contribute to cleanliness. He urged citizens to keep two trash bins in their homes and shops, promoting the practice of separating wet and dry waste to facilitate its recyclability.

Anti-polio drive in Bahawalpur from Sept 9

BAHAWALPUR, Aug 23 (APP):As many as 824,000 children under five years of age would be administered polio vaccine during the five-day anti-polio drive, starting from September 9 in the district.
This was disclosed in a meeting, presided over by Deputy Commissioner Bahawalpur Zaheer Anwar Jappa at the committee room, here on Friday.
The meeting was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner Headquarters Sumaira Rabbani, Chief Executive Officer Health Dr. Amir Bashir, Deputy District Health Officers, representatives from the World Health Organisation, and officials concerned.
The deputy commissioner emphasised the importance of ensuring that all children under the age of five receive the vaccination, stating that no child should miss out during the campaign. He instructed the Health Department officials to effectively monitor the polio teams in the field.
Chief Executive Officer of the District Health Authority Dr. Amir Bashir briefed that during the polio prevention campaign, from September 9 to 11, teams will go door-to-door to vaccinate children under five years old. Any children who are unable to receive the vaccine for any reason will have a catch-up activity on September 12 and 13. He added that a total of 3,276 mobile teams, 195 fixed teams, and 136 transit teams have been formed for the polio campaign. Furthermore, the performance of the polio teams will be monitored in the field.

CDA chairman wants early submission of development charges at sectors

ISLAMABAD, Aug 23 (APP):Chairman, Capital Development Authority (CDA), Muhammad Ali Randhawa on Friday directed the officials to ensure early submission of development charges to pace up work at sectors.
The CDA Chairman presided over a meeting to assess the progress on revenue targets and development projects.
The meeting evaluated the performance of various sectors and revenue targets achieved so far.
To enhance productivity, Randhawa directed the submission of weekly and monthly reports and suggested linking key performance indicators to employees’ salaries and benefits.
He also emphasized the importance of IT and digitization in improving service delivery and charges collection.
Randhawa announced the upcoming launch of residential plots in Sector C-14, along with parking plazas and commercial plots in the blue area.
Additionally, the CDA chairman confirmed the completion of the Jinnah Convention Center’s renovation before the Shanghai Organization meeting.
He said corporate, educational, and private institutions will be allowed to host events at the venue.

Governor Kundi thanks PM in construction of Dera-Rajanpur road

PESHAWAR, Aug 23 (APP):Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Faisal Karim Kundi, on Friday expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, Federal Minister for National Highways Abdul Aleem Khan and the officials of the National Highway Authority (NHA) for their support in the construction of 329 kilometers Dera Ismail Khan to Rajanpur road.
In a video message, Governor Faisal Karim Kundi said that the construction work on this vital road will begin this year.
He said that the road will be upgraded from a two-lane to a four-lane highway with the support of the Asian Development Bank, holds immense importance for both Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab.
Tenders for the project have already been issued that would ushr new era of development, Governor Faisal Karim Kundi added.
The Governor also highlighted that construction work on the Ramak to Tibba Qaisarani section of the road will start within this year. The project is divided into four phases, with the Dera Ismail Khan to Ramak to Punjab Tibba Qaisarani section covering 96 kilometers.
Additionally, Kundi mentioned that tenders for the Dera Ismail Khan Chashma Lift Canal project will soon be issued. The Prime Minister has allocated 19 billion rupees from the federal budget for this project. Kundi thanked Federal Minister Musadiq Malik and the Chairman of WAPDA for their roles in this initiative.
The Governor also revealed that the No Objection Certificate (NOC) for the Dera Ismail Khan International Airport has been issued, with construction expected to start next year.
Kundi emphasized that these mega projects will significantly contribute to regional development, highlighting that practical steps are being taken rather than just making promises.
The road and canal projects are set to be inaugurated later this year, while the airport project will commence in the coming year.
Meanwhile, Governor Faisal Karim Kundi has announced the establishment of the province’s first Artificial Intelligence (AI) Center aims to advance digital technology in the province and promote modern technological trends.
The announcement was made following a meeting with the world’s first digital senator, Senator Mian Atiq, at the Governor House Peshawar. Principal Secretary to the Governor Mazhar Irshad, renowned educationist Professor Mullah Khan Haidri, and IT expert Talha were also present on this occasion.
During the meeting, discussions focused on the latest trends and benefits of digital technology.
Governor Kundi revealed that the new AI Center will be established at the Governor House Peshawar to promote  digital technology in the province.
The Governor emphasized that the center will play a crucial role in the development of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, aligning the province with global standards and contributing to its progress.
The AI Center is expected to be a milestone in efforts to empower women and engage youth, and it will be linked with various universities in the province, said Governor Faisal Kundi.
He said that this connection will provide students and faculty with access to cutting-edge research and technology, potentially revolutionizing research and development in universities.
Additionally, the center will help local industries adapt to global standards, thereby boosting the province’s economy, Kundi added.
Meanwhile, Governor Faisal Karim Kundi, in a meeting with faculty members of the Area Study Center for Russia, China, and Central Asia University of Peshawar assured fully support.
The delegation, led by Vice Chancellor , Professor Dr. Muhammad Naeem Qazi, included Professor Shabbir Ahmad Khan, Assistant Professor Dr. Muhammad Shafiq Afridi, Dr. Muhammad Ali Dena Khel, and Riaz Ali Khan.
During the meeting, various aspects of the Area Study Center’s role and its importance in regional research were discussed.
Governor Kundi highlighted the significance of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as a gateway to Central Asian countries.
He emphasized that the Area Study Center at Peshawar University plays a crucial role in producing high-quality research related to the region.

Illegal fishing trawlers cannot be curbed with limited resources: Barkat Ali Rind

QUETTA, Aug 23 (APP): The Parliamentary Secretary for Fisheries Barkat Ali Rind informed the Balochistan Assembly Standing Committee that the government is facing significant difficulty in curbing illegal fishing trawlers in the Gwadar’s marine area. The number of illegal fishing trawlers is large while the number of manpower and resources with the government are limited.

The Parliamentary Secretary said that the department has failed in curbing illegal fishing in the coastal waters of Balochistan due to inadequate resources such as insufficient fuel and shortage of patrol vessels and lack of human resource.

He said that despite various challenges, the employees of the department have seized 11 illegal trawlers involved in illegal fishing at the marine boundaries of the province so far since January 2023.

The Balochistan Assembly Standing Committee on Fisheries reaffirmed its commitment to address the challenges being faced by the local fishermen and ensure sustainable management in the fisheries sector.

The meeting of the Standing Committee on Fisheries was held under the chair of Maulana Hidayat Ur Rehman while members of the committee including Abdul Majeed Badini, Zabid Ali Reki, Safia and Parliamentary Secretary for Fisheries Barkat Ali Rind were participated.

The Meeting was informed that the maritime area of Balochistan is spread over 17,180 square kilometers.
In the meeting, the committee was briefed about the fisheries department and discussed the important issues faced by the department.

Chairman Committee Maulana Hidayat Ur Rehman stressed the need for significant increase in POL for effective patrolling, highlighting the potential of billions of revenue through adequate funding for the department.

The chairman committee said that the sector has huge potential to generate revenue by allocating a good budget to the department.

The Chairman urged the government to allocate budget for the repairing of the department’s boats to prevent illegal trawling as various species fish have become extinct due to illegal trawling.

The committee stressed the urgent need for the Balochistan government to discuss the matter with the federal government, and said that illegal trawling was costing the billions of public exchequer every year.

The Committee was briefed on the alarming number of over-exploitation of fisheries resources, highlighting the need for effective mechanisms for improvement and rehabilitation.

They also noted the lack of coordination between Sindh and Balochistan governments regarding the regularization of trade.

C-130 plane carrying bodies of Iran accident  to arrive in Jacobabad tonight: Nasir Shah

SUKKUR, Aug 23 (APP):Sindh Minister for Planning, Development and Energy, Syed Nasir Hussain Shah on Friday had said that the C-130 plane carrying the bodies of Pakistani pilgrims who embraced martyrdom in the Iran accident will arrive at Shahbaz Airport, Jacobabad, at midnight of Friday and added that Sindh government had made all arrangements to shift the bodies to their natives places.
In a video statement released here, the minister said that it was a tragic incident in Iran, where Pakistani pilgrims embraced martyrdom. He stated that on the instruction of PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, the Pakistani ambassador in Iran and Iranian authorities were contacted to take necessary measures.
He said that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had also  ordered a C-130 aircraft to transport the bodies of the deceased pilgrims to Pakistan. The aircraft is expected to arrive at Jacobabad Airport after 12 midnight.
He said that Sindh government has made arrangements for the convenience of the bereaved families and over 40 Rescue 1122 ambulances are present at Jacobabad Airport.
He said that injured pilgrims are also being brought back on the C-130 aircraft, and for that hospitals have been alerted. He said that severely injured individuals will be transported to Karachi via air ambulance which also reached at Shahbaz airport.
Meanwhile, Sindh Minister for Planning, Development and Energy, Syed Nasir Hussain Shah along with  Chairman District Council Kumail Hyder Shah reached  Sukkur and will depart shortly for Jacobabad for receiving the bodies of the martyred pilgrims and injured.

Pakistan eyes Turkish expertise to elevate aviation industry

ISLAMABAD, Aug 23 (APP):Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue, Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb, while appreciating the success of Turkish aviation industry here on Friday, said that collaboration in the aviation sector with Turkiye was an important part of bilateral relations between the two countries.

During a meeting with Chairperson of Pegasus Airlines, Mehmat T. Nane, who was accompanied by CEO of Lucky Cement Limited Muhammad Ali Tabba, the minister noted that the collaboration in this field was aligned with the Prime Minister’s vision to enhance Pakistan’s aviation industry.

He also recalled a recent meeting with the Turkish Trade Minister, where both sides discussed various avenues for trade and business collaboration, according to press release issued by finance ministry.

This meeting, he noted, was part of the broader strategy to strengthen ties between Pakistan and Turkey in multiple sectors, including aviation.

On the occasion, Mehmat T. Nane presented an overview of the Turkish aviation strategy, highlighting key aspects that could benefit Pakistan’s aviation sector. He elaborated on how Pakistan could leverage Turkiye’s experience and expertise to advance its own aviation industry.
