ERC reviews situation of dengue in Bahawalpur district

BAHAWALPUR, Aug 19 (APP): A meeting of Emergency Response Committee (ERC) for Dengue Control was held in the committee room of the DC office under the chairmanship of Additional Deputy Commissioner Headquarters Sumaira Rabbani.

The meeting reviewed the measures implemented for dengue prevention from August 8 to August 16. District Focal Person Dr. Qudsia Anwar, Deputy Director Local Government Khurshid Ahmad, officials from Bahawal Victoria Hospital and Sir Sadiq Muhammad Khan Abbasi Hospital, Deputy District Health Officers, entomologists, officials from relevant departments and focal persons attended the meeting.

The Additional Deputy Commissioner emphasized the need to ensure the implementation of dengue preventive measures. She urged the importance of raising public awareness about cleanliness and the need for cleaning rooftops. She called for improvement in activities related to Android users and for proper execution of work in the field. Regular surveillance for dengue larvae should be conducted, and members of the indoor and outdoor teams formed for dengue control must work effectively in the field. She pointed out the necessity of ensuring coverage of hot spots in the district concerning the breeding of dengue larvae.

The Additional Deputy Commissioner noted that members of the response committee established at the tehsil level should work actively in the field.

The meeting evaluated the individual performance of various departments in relation to dengue control. During the meeting, District Focal Person Dr. Qudsiya Anwar provided a briefing, stating that from January 1 to August 16, a total of 5,611 suspected dengue cases were reported across the district, and 10 patients had traveled from other cities. She further informed that during surveillance from January 1 to August 16, dengue larvae were found at 44 locations. Measures are being taken to eliminate these larvae. She also reported the existence of 1,806 hot spots regarding dengue across the district, ensuring their coverage. There are currently 412 indoor and 108 outdoor teams actively engaged in dengue control activities throughout the district.

DERA ISMAIL KHAN, Aug 19 (APP):Commissioner Syed Abdul Jabbar Shah on Monday said that all resources should be utilized to maintain law and order during Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA).

He issued these instructions while presiding over a meeting held here at his office to review the arrangements made in connection with the upcoming Chehlum. The meeting was attended by Deputy Commissioner Dera Ismail Khan Ms. Sarah Rehman, District Police Officer Nasir Mehmood, officers and representatives of district administration and other departments concerned besides religious leaders of Sunni and Shia sects and members of Peace Committee.

Speaking on this occasion, the commissioner said that all resources should be used to maintain law and order situation during the Chehlum.

He said that the best arrangements and security plan were arranged during Ashura of Muharram, adding, the Peace Committee had also played an important role in this regard.

He asked the peace committee members to continue their efforts for maintaining peace and order in the area as the local people listen to them and obey their guidelines. On which, the peace committee members fully assured of making all efforts for the peace and prosperity of the city.

On this occasion, the police department also briefed the meeting regarding the security arrangements made in connection with the upcoming Chehlum of Imam Hussain (RA).

ISLAMABAD, Aug 19 (APP): The National Emergency Operations Center (NEOC) of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) on Monday anticipated more rain-thundershowers with isolated heavy falls from August 20 till 22 at scattered places in Northeastern districts of Balochistan.

The vulnerable districts included Zhob, Killa Saifullah, Pishin, Quetta, Ziarat, and Kalat and Eastern Parts of Balochistan Khuzdar, Dadu, Lasbela, Awaran, Jhal Magsi, Washuk, Kachhi and Jafarabad, a news release said.

“Rains may cause flash flows in streams of Khuzdar, Dadu, Lasbela, Awaran, Jhal Magsi, Washuk, Musakhel, Duki,Barkhan, Sibi and Kohlu. River Bridge abutments can be damaged due to erosive action of increased flows,” it said.

The NDMA urged all relevant authorities and the public to take necessary precautions to mitigate the potential impacts of flooding. The NDMA issued instructions to local authorities and rescue services to stay on high alert. Regular monitoring of Hydraulic Structures (Bridges, Culverts, Small Dams) and Flood Protection Structures are recommended.

The public is advised to remain vigilant and follow instructions from local authorities. NDMA advises the public to stay informed and download ‘Pak NDMA Disaster Alert’ mobile app for timely alerts and closely monitor weather reports.

Police intensify operation against drug dealers, 05 held

RAWALPINDI, Aug 19 (APP):Police have arrested five drug dealers and confiscated more than 5 kg drugs from their possession.

According to police spokesman, City Police arrested Babar Mubarak and recovered 1.4 kg drugs from his possession,during a raid.

Similarly, Saddar Wah Police seized 1.6 kg drugs from Hafeez and 820 gram of charas from Arif. While, Bani Police found 550 gram of charas from Arsalan.

Following operation, Civil Lines Police confiscated 520 gram of charas from Zaheer.
Police have registered separate cases against all of them and further investigation was in progress.

City Police Officer (CPO) Syed Khalid Mehmood Hamdani appreciated the performance of police teams and assured that all legal procedures will be followed to ensure that the accused face appropriate penalties.
The crackdown on drug dealers will be continued as part of an ongoing effort to combat drug from society, he added.

RPO hold open court to address public grievances

RAWALPINDI, Aug 19 (APP):Regional Police Officer (RPO) Rawalpindi Region, Babar Sarfraz Alpa on Monday held an open court to address public grievances at the regional office.

According to police spokesman, police is conducting open court regularly as part of the Punjab government’s open door policy.

During the open court, several residents including Parvez Khan, Maryam Naseer, Muhammad Siddique, and Tahira Bibi from Rawalpindi district while Nasreen Begum from Chakwal district, Muhammad Ismail from Hassan Abdal, Attock, and Sardar Ali from Jalal Pur, District Jhelum submitted their applications for redressal.
RPO Alpa listened complaints of citizens individually.

Following a thorough review and prompt action, RPO directed the issues must be addressed in a timely manner based on merits.

RPO Alpa emphasized that open courts are held daily to ensure citizens’ complaints are resolved efficiently.
He also highlighted ongoing efforts to enhance the quality of policing in the region.
