ISLAMABAD, Sep 16 (APP): Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Monday said that the proposed constitutional amendment was aimed at delivering swift and effective justice to the masses.

Consultations with all the political parties would continue to build up consensus on the amendment, he said during a meeting with the Pakistan Peoples Party delegation led by its Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.

PM Shehbaz Sharif stressed that some 240 million people of the country had mandated the Parliament to legislate. Enacting and amending the law fell under the jurisdiction of Parliament, which was the supreme legislative authority.

Both the sides agreed to broaden the consultation process concerning the proposed constitutional amendment.

It was agreed that Bilawal and other PPP leaders would actively participate in the consultation process. Efforts would be focused on reaching a consensus through consultations with political parties in the coming days.

Expressing satisfaction over the positive economic indicators, the prime minister noted that the inflation rate had dropped to the single digit last month for the first time in many years.

He said that two percent reduction in the policy rate by the State Bank had further boosted investors’ confidence in the Pakistani economy.

The latest decrease in the petroleum product prices was also another step of the government to provide relief to the people, he added.

The prime minister expressed gratitude to Allah Almighty that with His blessings the country was gradually heading on the path of economic progress and development.

The PPP delegation comperised Members of the Nationl Assembly Syed Khursheed Ahmed Shah, and Syed Naveed Qamar, Mayor Karachi Murtaza Wahab. Federal Minister for Law and Justice Azam Nazeer Tarar, Federal Minister for Economic Affairs Ahad Khan Cheema and Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Ataullah Tarar were also present in the meeting.
