PM departs for New York to attend UNGA Session

LAHORE, Sep 21 (APP): Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Saturday departed for the United States to attend the 79th session of United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) set to take place from September 23-27, 2024 in New York.

In his address at the UN General Assembly, the prime minister will reaffirm Pakistan’s steadfast commitment to multilateralism and express support for the role of the United Nations in forging global peace, security, and prosperity.

He will also emphasize the importance of addressing long-standing issues on the agenda of the UN Security Council, including the question of Palestine and Jammu and Kashmir.

In his social media post on X before his departure, the prime minister said he looked forward to a busy week full of engagements.

“During our interactions, we will take up global issues, promoting peace, development and climate action. Will represent Pakistan’s perspective to the world, advocate our interests and strengthen international partnerships,” he added.

During his participation in the UNGA session, the prime minister will also attend several high-level meetings on the sidelines of the UNGA session, including the High-level Meeting on Existential Threats Posed by Sea-level Rise and the UN Security Council’s Open Debate on Leadership for Peace.

Earlier, Foreign Office Spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch in a statement informed that Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar will not proceed to New York to participate in the UNGA session due to important diplomatic commitments and preparations for the upcoming Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit to be held in Islamabad.

BISP releases quarterly tranche in Sargodha

SARGODHA, Sep 21 (APP):The Benazir Income Support Program Sargodha district has released the quarterly tranche for September-December 2024 for registered beneficiaries.
Deputy Director Raazia Asim told media that 72,335 beneficiaries in Sargodha city and 165,183 beneficiaries in Sargodha district would get BISP payments of Rs10,500 each.
She said that the payment process had been started and five camp sites in Sargodha city and 9 camp sites in Sargodha district had been set up. BISP representatives will remain in the field all the time to ensure payment transparency.

Judge PHC visits Sub Jail Swabi

PESHAWAR, Sep 21 (APP):Judge Peshawar High Court (PHC), Justice Ejaz Anwar on Saturday visited Sub Jail Swabi and visited its various sections.
He was accompanied by Registrar PHC, Ikhtiar Khan and Additonal District and Session Judge, Zahim Ahmad.
Justice Ejaz Ahmad inspected jail building, visited jail barracks and inquired about the number of inmates and facilities being provided to prisoners.
He also met with inmates and listened to their problems.
He also directed to free 36 prisoners involved in petty nature crimes. Later, he also visited Swabi Judicial Complex and met with judicial officers.

On Day 1st, Asjad beat Ulziitogtokh Davaasuren (Mongolia) 4-1 (50-18, 75(75)-0, 82(75)-0, 0-73(73), 64(61)-0) while Awais Muneer outplayed Mendsaikhan Bat-Erdene (Mongolia) 4-2 (64(64)-0, 20-45, 0-54(47), 54-10, 53-21, 46-15).
On Sunday, Asjad will play Pandurangaiah E (India) and Alijalil Ali (Iraq) while Awais would face Jia Jun Ong (Singapore) and Shachar Ruberg (Israel), respectively.

FESCO issues shutdown program

According to the program issued by the company, power supply from Civil Line and DHQ feeders linked with 132-KV Tariq Abad grid station, FESCO Colony, Jubilee and Abdullah Pur feeders attached with 132-KV Old Thermal grid station, University Town, FDA City, Abu Bakar Block, Samana, Millat Town, Rasool Pur Jaguar, Kalash, Zafar Fabrics and Super feeders connected with 132-KV Chiniot Road grid station, AZ Apparel, K&M, Dhanola Industrial, Sajjad Estate, new Dry Port, al-Makkah Export and Burj feeders originating from 132-KV Millat Road grid station will remain suspended from 7 a.m. to 12 noon while FIEDMC, ATH, Coca Cola, Orient Material, Hayat Chemia, Daily JW and Ghani Ceramics feeders linked with 132-KV FIEDMC grid station, Hyundai Nishat, Afridi Textile, Tapal Textile, Nishat Swits, Hayat Chemia No.2, Time Ceramics No.2, Sargodha Cloth, Maheen Textile and National Foods feeders attached with 132-KV FIEDMC-II grid station and Scarp-1 feeder connected with 132-KV Chak Jhumra grid station will observe shutdown from 6 a.m. to 12 noon on Sunday (September 22, 2024).

FBR sets Sept 30 deadline for income tax returns, no extension to be granted: Spokesperson

ISLAMABAD, Sep 21 (APP):Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) Spokesperson Bakhtiar Muhammad Saturday cautioned citizens against last-minute rush, advising them to file their income tax returns well before the September 30 deadline and emphasized that no extensions will be granted.
Talking to a private news channel, Bakhtiar Muhammad urged taxpayers to submit their taxes on time to boost Pakistan’s economy.
By doing so, the government aims to promote a culture of tax compliance, which is crucial for the country’s economic stability and growth.
Responding to a query, he said that FBR is committed to improving the capability of our tax system through the application of modern techniques.
This includes leveraging data analytics and artificial intelligence (AI) to identify and combat tax evasion, upgrading tax infrastructure, and enhancing audit and verification processes, he added.
To support taxpayers, the FBR is providing assistance and simplifying tax laws and procedures, he said.
The Iris portal, a user-friendly tax filing system, is a key initiative in this effort, he said, adding that the FBR is focused on building a motivated, satisfied, dedicated, and professional workforce through training and development programs, fostering a culture of professionalism and integrity and encouraging employee motivation and job satisfaction.

ISLAMABAD, Sep 21 (APP):Chairman Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has reaffirmed the party’s commitment to the ideals of peace, justice, democracy and human dignity.
In a message on the occasion of International Peace Day, he stressed that peace is not just the absence of conflict but the presence of justice, equality, and respect for human rights.
“True peace can only be achieved when every individual, regardless of their background or beliefs, is treated with fairness and dignity,” he said.
He highlighted that Pakistan, as a nation, has faced challenges in its pursuit of peace, both domestically and internationally, but has remained resilient in its quest to build a harmonious and prosperous society.
“PPP has always been at the forefront of advocating for peace, dialogue, and reconciliation, values that were championed by Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto,” he added.
Bilawal Bhutto also acknowledged this year’s United Nations theme for International Peace Day, “Cultivating a Culture of Peace”.
He urged the global community to work together in addressing shared challenges such as poverty, inequality, and climate change, which are critical to fostering lasting peace.
“Peace is interconnected with development, and the sustainable progress of any nation depends on the well-being of its people and the fairness of its systems,” he said.
He also cautioned the international community that the ongoing Indian atrocities in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) and the Israeli brutality in Palestine pose a grave threat to global peace and stability.
He further emphasized that in today’s world, emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, must be governed ethically and responsibly to ensure that they contribute to peace and do not exacerbate inequality or conflict.
“It is vital that we use technology as a force for good, promoting transparency, justice, and inclusivity,” he remarked.

Govt measures show positive signs in each sector: Rana Mashhood

ISLAMABAD, Sep 21 (APP): Chairman of the Prime Minister Youth Programme (PMYP) Rana Mashhood Ahmed Khan has said that the positive indicators show the remarkable achievements of the present government in every sector and the country is moving in the right direction.
Addressing the participants of the “Cycle For Life” rally held in collaboration with the Mujahid Group Of Industries, Federation of Pakistan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Khubaib Foundation, Anti-Narcotics Force, Islamabad Administration, Capital Development Authority and Islamabad Cycling Association, he said that the objective of the rally was to promote environmental preservation, raise awareness about the dangers of drugs and engage youth in healthy activities.
Rana said that the country under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif was advancing towards the path of development and growth in the exports of textiles and Information technology, increase in the stock exchange index, and growth in other sectors reflected the result-oriented policies of the government.
The Chairman added that PM Shehbaz Sharif had inaugurated the National Volunteer Core to include the youth in the policy-making, development and governance engagements.
Mashhood said that Pakistan has talented youth and a pivotal role in advancing the country towards fast-paced development. “We are dedicated to preparing our youth to excel in diverse fields and they have to “Say no to drugs”.
He said that the Green Youth Movement (GYM) an initiative of the Prime Minister’s Youth Programme was creating awareness and sensitizing Youth about the effects of climate change.
“By harnessing the youth’s creativity, energy, and commitment, we can drive meaningful change and create a legacy of sustainability for future generations, “he added.
The Chairman PMYP added that Pakistan produces less than 1 percent of the world’s carbon footprint and was suffering the biggest consequences of climate change which needed to be addressed with the help of the World Climate Change Organizations.
Mashhood said that PMYP had taken various initiatives in the fields of education, technical education, arts and culture, sports, science, math, innovation awards and others to empower youth.
Many youths besides parliamentarians, journalists, sportsmen, and others participated in the cycle rally.
