Transgender community demands dedicated seating space in public transport vehicles

ISLAMABAD, Sep 25 (APP):Transgender community has demanded dedicated seating space in public transport to provide them with a safe environment during their travel.
Transgender Rights activist Nayyab Ali talking to APP said that dedicated seating space on public transport vehicles should be allocated for transgenders community, adding that transgender individuals often face challenges related to transportation due to a variety of social, economic, and systemic issues.
She claimed that many transgender people experience verbal abuse, harassment, or even physical violence when using public transport. This can make commuting a stressful and unsafe experience.
She said that many transportation hubs lack gender-neutral restrooms or spaces that accommodate non-binary or transgender individuals. This can create discomfort and anxiety, particularly for those who are transitioning.

Agro deptt. receives applications under “Green Tractor Scheme”

MURREE, Sep 25 (APP):The agriculture department has started receiving applications under “Green Tractor Scheme” launched by the Punjab government.
Talking to APP, Deputy Director Agriculture, Dr. Muhammad Ahmed said farmers having agriculture land up to 50 acres could apply for tractors under the scheme till October, 10.
Four tractors under the scheme would be distributed among the farmers in the district, he added.
The farmers could apply online, he pointed out, adding the government would give a subsidy of Rs 10,00000 on each tractor.

Cutlery exports increase 8.68% to $10.308 mln in two months

ISLAMABAD, Sep 25 (APP):The exports of cutlery witnessed an increase of 8.68 per cent during the first two months of the current financial year 2024-25, as against the exports of the corresponding months of last year.
The cutlery exports from the country were recorded at US $10.308 million during July-August (2024-25) against the exports of US $9.485 million during July-August (2023-24), according to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).
Meanwhile, year-on-year basis, the exports of cutlery witnessed an increase of 18.43 per cent during the month of August 2024 as compared to the same month of last year.
The exports of cutlery from the country during August 2024 were recorded at US $6.112 million against the exports of US $5.161 million in August 2023.
On a month-on-month basis, exports of cutlery witnessed an increase by 45.66 cent during August 2024 when compared to the exports of US $4.196 million in July 2024, the PBS data revealed.

Pakistan committed to promoting sustainable, environment-friendly transportation system: President

ISLAMABAD, Sep 25 (APP): President Asif Ali Zardari on Wednesday reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to promoting the development of a safe, sustainable, efficient and environment-friendly transportation system in the country.

The president, addressing the Global Sustainable Transport Forum-2024, through a video message, being held in Beijing from September 25-26, 2024, said that Pakistan would work closely with China to achieve the goals of sustainable development to usher in an era of peace and prosperity.

He emphasized that the world needed resilient infrastructure for efficient, environment-friendly and low-carbon transport solutions to fulfill the needs of the people.

He appreciated China’s lead role in promoting and advancing the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly recognizing the critical importance of the transport sector.

Highlighting the initiatives taken by the government, President Zardari apprised the Forum that Pakistan had introduced pink buses specifically for women to provide a safe, comfortable and accessible mode of public transportation.

He underlined that rural accessibility to all-weather roads in Pakistan witnessed significant improvement, reaching 92%. Improved rural accessibility could potentially contribute to promoting sustainable development as well as providing essential services to the rural population, he added.

The president apprised the participants that Pakistan was facing the challenges of sustainable maintenance of its infrastructure and the effects of climate change.

He highlighted that over the last five years, devastating floods, heavy rainfall and extreme weather conditions had severely damaged Pakistan’s transport infrastructure including roads, rails, bridges and other critical transport networks that isolated millions of people, particularly in rural areas.

President Zardari stated that Pakistan deeply valued China’s role in promoting sustainable development and its contribution to regional and global economic prosperity.

He said that Pakistan extended its support for the development of sustainable transport cooperation among the transport authorities of the member states and appreciated the initiatives taken by China under the leadership of President Xi Jinping.

Ayaz commends APNS role in promoting print media industry

He reaffirmed the Parliament’s commitment to encouraging free and responsible journalism through legislation, stating that accurate and factual news is essential for raising political awareness and ensuring citizens are well-informed about their rights.
The Speaker called for all citizens to perform their responsibilities in line with the Constitution and laws of Pakistan, ensuring the nation’s continued progress and development.

Shipping activity at Port Qasim

KARACHI, Sep 25 (APP):Shipping activity was report at the port where four ships, MSC Maeva, Bentley-I, Al-Deebal and Scarabe carrying Container, Palm oil, LNG and Coal,berthed at Qasim International Container Terminal, Liquid Cargo Terminal, Engro Elengy Terminal and Pakistan International Bulk Terminal respectively on Thursday.
Meanwhile two more ships, Clipper Trent and Hafnia Express scheduled to load/offload Rice and Gas oil are also arrived at outer anchorage port during last 24 hours.
A total of ten ships were engaged at PQA berths during the last 24 hours, out of them a containers ship ‘MSC Maeva’ left the port on today morning, while three more ships, Maersk Durban, Roberta and Kition-M are expected to sail on today.
Cargo volume of 252,801 tonnes, comprising 201,613 tonnes imports cargo and 51,188 tonnes export cargo carried in 5,420 Containers (2,529 TEUs Imports& 2,891 TEUs Export) was handled at the port during last 24 hours.
There are 05 ships at Outer Anchorage of Port Qasim, out of them two ships, Forza Roma and Hafnia Express & three more ships, SSL Brahmaputra, Cape Andreas and Maersk Cape Town are scheduled to load/offload Rice, Gas oil and Container are expected to take berths at FAP, FOTCO and QICT respectively on today,Meanwhile two more container ships, Teno and San Francisco Bridge are due to arrive at port on Thursday.

Anti-polio campaign’s goals achieved in befitting way: Commissioner

MIRPURKHAS, Sep 25 (APP):Commissioner Mirpurkhas, Faisal Ahmad Uqeli has said that the achievement of the desired goals set during the anti-polio campaign was a result of mutual communication.
 He expressed these views while presiding over a meeting with the members of the Divisional Task Force to review the performance of the anti-polio campaign.
According to a press release, the Commissioner said that the eradication of polio was linked to the bright future of our builders, adding no negligence should be made to achieved the target.
He directed all the deputy commissioners to complete the necessary arrangements during the polio campaign and take steps to ensure effective supervision of the polio teams.

Pakistan, China working together to build an upgraded version of CPEC: Chinese CG

KARACHI, Sep 25 (APP):The Consul General of People’s Republic of China in Karachi, Yang Yundong has said China and Pakistan were working together to build an “upgraded version” of CPEC as per consensus of the leadership of both the countries.
He said this while addressing a reception hosted on 75th National Day of People’s Republic of China here at Karachi Consulate on Tuesday night.
Sindh Governor Kamran Khan Tessori, Chief Minister Syed Murad Shah, provincial Ministers, diplomats of different countries and other dignitaries were present on the occasion.
Consul General Yang Yundong said Pakistan and China are good neighbors connected by mountains and rivers and good friends with shared trust and integrity.
Over the 73 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations, Pakistan and China have maintained mutual respect and support, forging the “ironclad brother” friendship, Yang said, adding that China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) is an important pilot project of the Built Road Initiative (BRI).
He said CPEC was launched in 2013 and now both sides are working for an “upgraded version” of the project. We should fully implement the important consensus of the leaders of our two countries, Yang Yundong added.
He said China will work with Pakistan to upgrade and renovate the Main Line-1 (ML-1) railway, continue enhancing other infrastructure, fully release the potential of these infrastructures, and consolidate the foundation for Pakistan’s sustainable development.
He said China will encourage investment in Pakistan’s automobile manufacturing and new energy sectors, promote technical cooperation in textiles, minerals, fisheries and agricultural and sideline products and further deepen cooperation between the two countries on all fronts.
He said China is eager to further strengthen cultural and people to people exchanges and cooperation, particularly in areas like education, sports, media and think tank.
He also refered post floods disaster reconstruction projects for schools in Sindh province. He said China firmly supports Pakistan’s efforts to combat terrorism.
He said he had served in Karachi for nearly a year and half and deeply felt the profound heritage of China Pakistan friendship.
He also thanked to the friends from all walks of life in Sindh and Balochistan for their long standing support and assistance.
Yang Yundong also shed light on China’s unprecedented growth and development  and said China’s development is to provide a better life for its people not about competing with other countries, let alone seeking hegemony.
He said the IMF recently raised its forecast for China’s growth this year to 5% in its latest World Economic Outlook report.
He said China’s GDP in first half of this year reached 61.7 trillion yuan.
Speaking in the occasion, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah said Pakistan and China would continue to work together to develop projects that promote sustainable growth, particularly in areas such as renewable energy, digital connectivity, and industrialization.
He extended his heartfelt congratulations to the Chinese government and its people on this momentous milestone.
Shah said that China’s remarkable journey over the past 75 years, under the visionary leadership of its government, was a source of inspiration for many across the globe. “The rapid economic growth, the technological advancements, and the societal progress that China has achieved in such a short period are nothing short of extraordinary,” he said.
The historical and diplomatic relations between Pakistan and China, have been strong since the era of founder chairman of Pakistan Peoples Party Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, CM recalled and said that Shaheed Bhutto’s relationship with Chairman Mao Zedong was crucial in laying the foundation for the Pakistan-China partnership.
Referring to the recent visit of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to China, CM Sindh said it had injected fresh energy into this bond, with the signing of several agreements set to further strengthen our bilateral ties, especially as we look ahead to the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit, which Pakistan is honoured to host in Islamabad this October.
He disclosed that President Asif Ali Zardari will visit China in November this year.
Shah said that collaborative efforts in infrastructure development to the energy sector, our relationship with China has continued to flourish. “The China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) has played a pivotal role in strengthening these ties, and Sindh has been at the forefront of this partnership,” he said.
The Chief Minister said that Pakistan-China’s collaboration in various sectors, such as infrastructure, agriculture, technology and education, was a testament to our shared vision for progress,” he said and added that China’s expertise, combined with Sindh’s resources, could create new development opportunities, fostering a brighter future for our people.
The CM said that Pakistan attaches great importance to the SCO and eagerly looks forward to welcoming the Chinese Premier Mr Li Qiang during this momentous event, the CM said.  Chinese Premier participation in the SCO will also provide an opportunity for high-level bilateral talks, aimed at further deepening the engagement between two nations, he added.
A cake cutting ceremony was also held on the occasion and then Chinese foods were served to the participants of the ceremony.

OEC collecting data of nurses for potential opportunities in USA

ISLAMABAD, Sep 25 (APP):The Overseas Employment Corporation (OEC) an attached department of Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development (OP&HRD) is initiating a data collection process for Pakistani nurses interested in exploring potential employment opportunities in the United States of America.
An official source told APP here on Wednesday, this is part of an effort to identify qualified candidates who
meet the necessary criteria for pursuing nursing positions in the U.S. healthcare system.
He said that Generic BSN / Post RN (16 years of education) must be for candidate with English proficiency test IELTS,
Overall Band Score: 6.5 or higher, Speaking Section: 7.0 or higher  OR TOEFL.
Total Score: 83 or higher (internet-based test or iBT), individual section scores including Reading: 21, Listening: 18,
Speaking: 26, Writing: 24, Credential Evaluation (CGFNS), Credentials should already be evaluated by CGFNS (Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools) NCLEX-RN Exam.
He said that candidates must have passed the NCLEX-RN exam, Male and Female Both Not more than 45 Years.
