Rare Pakistani artefacts displayed at world’s leading Dutch Museum

THE HAGUE, Sep 30 (APP): In a major cultural exchange, three rare artefacts from Pakistan are being showcased at the “Asian Bronze Exhibition” at the Netherlands’ Rijksmuseum Amsterdam, one of the world’s leading museums.

The Embassy of Pakistan, The Hague took the initiative by facilitating the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Rijksmuseum-Amsterdam, and the Department of Archeology and Museums, National Heritage and Culture Division, Government of Pakistan, which formed the basis for the borrowing of 3 rare artefacts for the exhibition from National Museum, Karachi.

This exhibition is a unique celebration of 4000 years of Asian bronze. Ranging from prehistoric objects to contemporary artworks, the exhibition will bring together Bronze masterpieces from various Asian Countries, including China, Indonesia, Japan, Thailand, Vietnam, Pakistan, Nepal and South Korea.

The three objects from Pakistan show the thousands of years old heritage and underscore the country’s significant contribution to the global cultural landscape.

The three artefacts from Karachi Museum, carefully selected for their historical and artistic significance, will provide a unique glimpse into Pakistan’s ancient civilisation. These include: 1) more than 4000 years old tiny bronze female figure wearing bangles, it is at time called the other Mohenjodaro girl, 2) a mirror made of bronze from 2500 BC ; 3) and a big sculpture of Hindu deity Brahma estimated to be from sixth century.

All the 3 objects are thousands of years old and bring to Europe the old history and civilisation of Pakistan.

This is the first time that such rare Pakistani artefacts are on display in the Netherlands and after a long time in Europe. In fact it it is the first time these three objects are on display in a European museum.

At the opening ceremony, Taco Dibbits Director General of Rijksmuseum thanked Pakistan and other countries contributing to the exhibition. He said that the female figure from Mohenjodaro was probably the oldest piece in the exhibition. Ambassador Dewi Vande Weerd, the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ambassador for International Cultural Cooperation, also spoke and appreciated the cooperation developed by the museum to organize the exhibition.

Pakistan’s Ambassador to the Netherlands Suljuk Mustansar Tarar, Ambassador Muhammad Ayub Director General for Europe at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and representatives of the archaeology department attended the opening ceremony.

In his remarks, Pakistan’s Ambassador to the Netherlands Suljuk Mustansar Tarar said the display of rare Pakistani artefacts would help build bridges and promote better understanding among the Dutch and wider European audience about Pakistan’s civilisational context and contribution to the development of different art and crafts.

Meezan Bank, Hamdard laboratories enhancement financial collaboration

ISLAMABAD, Sep 30 (APP):Meezan Bank, Pakistan’s leading Islamic bank, and Hamdard Laboratories (Waqf) Pakistan, a pioneer in Eastern medicine, have marked a significant enhancement in their financial collaboration with the successful integration of advanced transaction banking services.
The agreement in this regard was signed by Sadia Rashid, Chairperson & Chief Mutawallia of Hamdard Laboratories, and Syed Amir Ali, Deputy CEO of Meezan Bank said a news release.
Key executives from both organizations were present, including Farrukh Imdad – Director General (Hamdard), Faisal Nadeem – Chief Operating Officer (Hamdard), M. Abdullah Ahmed, Group Head – Transaction & International Banking (Meezan) and Zia Ul Hasan, Group Executive – Banking & Operations (Meezan).
The new agreement introduces a comprehensive collections integration between Meezan Bank’s state-of-the-art cash management system and Hamdard Laboratories’ SAP S4 HANA system.
This digitalized solution aims to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of Hamdard Laboratories’ distributor collections and payments, supporting streamlined financial operations and greater operational effectiveness.
Sadia Rashid, Chairperson & Chief Mutawallia of Hamdard Laboratories, emphasized the significance of the partnership: “The integration of advanced transaction banking services with Meezan Bank represents a major leap forward for our organization. This collaboration will significantly refine our financial processes and bolster our capacity to serve our community with increased efficiency and precision.”
Syed Amir Ali, Deputy CEO of Meezan Bank, highlighted the impact of the new services: “We are excited to advance our partnership with Hamdard Laboratories through this integration. Our cutting-edge digitalized payment and collection solutions are designed to provide seamless and efficient financial services, reinforcing our commitment to being the main banker and a trusted partner for Hamdard Laboratories.”
The signing ceremony also celebrated the ongoing relationship between Meezan Bank and Hamdard Laboratories, which has included Payments and Collections services since 2021. The expanded agreement underscores Meezan Bank’s role as a key financial partner, driving innovation and efficiency in transaction banking.

Chairman Senate for expediting uplift work in south Punjab

MULTAN, Sep 30 (APP):Chairman Senate Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani stressed the imperative need to accelerate development work in South Punjab.
He said this while during a meeting with Additional Chief Secretary Fuad Hashim Rabbani at Circuit House, here on Monday. The meeting was also attended by Member of the National Assembly Syed Ali Musa Gillani and former MPA Syed Mujtaba Gillani.
Gilani stressed that thorough oversight of ongoing projects was essential to ensure timely completion.
“Winning public confidence hinges on efficient public service delivery and prompt resolution of pressing issues”, Gilani maintained.
The Chairman Senate further stated the need for permanent appointments in key institutions, urging that recommendations be forwarded to the Punjab Government.
Gillani also directed enhanced security arrangements at the region’s revered shrines, particularly Qila Kohna Qasim Bagh.
He wished the removal of encroachments around the historic site to facilitate road expansion and improve traffic management.
Reflecting on his tenure as Prime Minister, he recalled that plazas were constructed in Shaheen Market and Ghanta Ghar to relocate traders displaced by anti-encroachment measures.
However, he added that the plan had not been fully implemented.
The Chairman Senate also highlighted his role in securing a $10 million grant from the Italian government for the preservation and restoration of Qila Kohna Qasim Bagh and its ancient walls.
He stated the delays in utilizing these funds and suggested for the project’s swift completion.
During the meeting, Additional Chief Secretary Fuad Hashim Rabbani provided a comprehensive briefing on ongoing projects and outlined new initiatives in South Punjab, assuring the Chairman Senate of steady progress.

Tarbela 5th extension project to be completed in 2025-26

ISLAMABAD, Sep 30 (APP): Tarbela 5th Extension Hydropower Project having 1510 megawatts (MW) capacity will be completed in 2025-26.
The project was being completed with the financial assistance of World Bank (WB) and Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), official sources told APP here Monday.

They said that WB and AIIB were providing financial assistance to the tune of $ 390 million and $ 300 million respectively. Cumulative generation capacity of the project stands at 1530 MW and it will provide 1.347 billion units of environment-friendly and low-cost hydel electricity to the National Grid every year.

With completion of Tarbela 5th Extension, installed capacity at Tarbela Dam will increase from 4888 MW to 6418 MW and Tarbela power house will emerge as highest hydel power generation dam in the country.
