Karsaz accident accused gets post arrest bail in drug case

KARACHI, Sep 30 (APP):Sindh High Court (SHC) has approved the bail application of the Karsaz accident accused of Natasha Danish in a drug case against surety bonds worth Rs1 million.
On August 19, a speeding Toyota Land Cruiser, driven by the accused, hit three motorcycles and another car on Karsaz Road, killing 60-year-old Imran Arif and his 22-year-old daughter Amna as well as wounding three others. The driver was arrested and booked for the charges.
The suspect was granted bail in the murder case earlier this month after the victims’ family pardoned them “without any blood money”. However, a judicial magistrate and a sessions court had separately rejected her bail pleas in the drug case.
While hearing the bail plea, Justice Muhammad Karim Khan Agha, after hearing arguments from both sides, approved Danish’s post-arrest bail against surety bonds worth Rs1m.

World heart Day observed in Sukkur

SUKKUR, Sep 30 (APP):Mahar Medical College, Sukkur has organized an awareness walk in connection with ‘World Heart Day’ on Monday with aim to awareness about prevention and control of cardiovascular disease.
The walk was organized by the Inter Global Human Development Society (IGHDS) with the collaboration of the health department Sukkur started from College and was culminated at the OPD of the district headquarters hospital.
This year’s theme of the Day was ‘Use Heart for Action’.
Speakers said that Cardiovascular disease, including heart disease and stroke, is the world’s leading cause of death, they claimed over 17.5 million lives each year across the globe.
Dr Zahoor Ahmed Soomro, Dr Farhan Baloch, CEO of the IGHDS, Advocate Dr Jameel Shakeel, Keenjhar Nazeer, Bakhtawar Soomro, Maqsood Imam, Awais Qureshi and others spoke the occasion.
A large number of health experts, medical students, paramedic staff and representatives of the different NGOs participated.

Speakers emphasize equitable climate policies to address challenges faced by women, marginalized segments

ISLAMABAD, Sep 30 (APP):Speakers at the conference “Gender, Intersectionality and Climate Change: From Scientific Evidence to Action” held here Monday highlighted the critical need for equitable climate policies that address the unique challenges facing women and marginalised communities.
An overwhelming number of academics, policymakers, development workers and activists converged on the National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) to attend the conference, funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and supported by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH.
The conference on Gender, Intersectionality and Climate Change (GICC) featured panel discussions, case studies, and an interactive exhibition showcasing innovative approaches to gender-responsive climate governance.
The event kickstarted with a powerful opening statement by First Secretary of German Embassy, Mr Jan Kühn von Burgsdorff who stressed the importance of gender inclusion in climate policies and Germany’s support for Pakistan’s efforts to achieve the desired objectives.
Pro-Rector Academics NUST, Dr Osman Hasan in his closing remarks, emphasised the need for empowering women and ensuring their equal participation in climate decision-making, which could lead to more effective and equitable solutions in addressing the challenges posed by climate change.
Leading experts at the conference highlighted the disproportionate impact of climate change on women and marginalised communities.
Director and Founder of the Karachi Urban Lab at the Institute of Business Administration (IBA), Karachi, Dr Nausheen Hafeeza Anwar underscored the need for inclusive decision-making in climate governance. Dr Sauleha Kamal from the University of York and Dr Muhammad Sajjad, from the University of Hong Kong, provided important insights into the gendered aspects of climate adaptation and the vulnerability of disaster-prone areas.
Complementing the insightful discussions, the conference featured an Art and Photo Exhibition, showcasing visual representations of how climate change impacts different communities, particularly women.
A Project and Product Exhibition, modeled after the concept of a “human library,” allowed attendees to engage with ongoing projects that promoted gender equity in climate action. The interactive platform fostered meaningful dialogue between experts and participants, further enriching the conference experience.
The conference underscored NUST’s commitment to gender mainstreaming and providing real solutions for real problems.
By integrating gender perspectives into climate action, NUST is leading the way in addressing the complex, interconnected challenges of climate change, social justice, and sustainable development, ensuring that the voices of marginalised communities are heard and acted upon.
The university is committed to continue its efforts to create meaningful, impactful change both at the national and global level.

SAU completes greenhouse project with Turkish support

HYDERABAD, Sep 30 (APP):The Sindh Agriculture University (SAU), Tandojam has successfully completed its state of the art greenhouse project, generously funded by the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA).
Situated near the Faculty of Crop Protection, this advanced facility is designed to support groundbreaking research on climate adaptive and off season crops, fruits, vegetables and other plant species well suited to Sindh’s unique environmental conditions.
According to a press release, a delegation from TIKA, led by Haleel Ibrahim Basaran and Fatima Aziz, visited the newly completed greenhouse on Monday. During the visit, the delegation observed the active experiments being conducted within the facility.
Haleel Ibrahim conveyed the deep connection between Turkia and Pakistan, referring to the greenhouse as a “gift from the Turkish people,” and expressed optimism that it would become an essential hub for agricultural research benefiting experts, faculty and students at SAU. “This collaboration between TIKA and SAU is set to open new avenues for research and innovation in agriculture sector, with far-reaching benefits for both students and the broader farming community in Sindh”, he added.
Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences Dr. Aijaz Ali Khooharo outlined the primary research focus of the greenhouse, emphasizing its role in studying crop growth and adaptation under diverse climate conditions, including off-season cultivation. He expressed hope that the research outcomes will provide critical insights that can significantly enhance agricultural productivity in the province, aiding farmers in tackling the challenges posed by climate change.
Dean of the Faculty of Crop Protection Dr. Manzoor Ali Abro delivered a detailed briefing on the greenhouse’s significance, praising the visionary leadership of SAU Vice Chancellor Dr. Fateh Mari in driving the university toward modernization in both education and research field. Dr. Abro also commended TIKA’s unwavering support, which has been vital in realizing this project. Dr. Muhammad Imran Khatri also spoke on the occasion. Dr. Imtiaz Nizamani, Dr. Mehmood Leghari, Dr. Arfan Ahmed Gilal, Dr. Muhammad Ibrahim Khaskheli and others were also present at the event.

PFA discards 500 litres milk

MULTAN, Sep 30 (APP):The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) continued its crackdown and discarded 500 litres of adulterated milk.
During a picket at Chak 135 near Mian Channu, the food safety team inspected a milk-carrying vehicle. The inspection revealed water contamination and a lack of essential nutrients in milk which was discarded instantly.
DG Food Authority Asim Javed emphasized the use of advanced Lactoscan machines
for milk inspections. He stated that checking points were set up on both internal and external routes to prevent supply of adulterated milk.

Pakistan Embassy in Beijing observes Defence and Martyrs Day

BEIJING, Sep 30 (APP): The Embassy of Pakistan in Beijing on Monday hosted a ceremony to commemorate Defence and Martyrs Day to pay rich tributes to the valor, resolve and ultimate sacrifices made by members of the Pakistan Armed Forces in defence of their homeland.

The event was attended by a large number of guests including senior Chinese civil and military officials, members of the diplomatic corps, defense attaches, media, members of Pakistani community and officers of the embassy. Air Marshal Jia Zhigang, Deputy Commander Peoples Liberation Army (Air Force) of China was the chief guest.

​The ceremony began with playing of the national anthem, followed by a moment of silence to pay homage to the martyrs who laid down their lives in defense of Pakistan.

CM assures PHC of legislation against rearrests after bail confirmation

PESHAWAR, Sep 30 (APP):Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Ali Amin Gandapur on Monday appeared before the Peshawar High Court (PHC) where he was summoned in a missing persons case.
Chief Justice PHC, Justice Ishtiaq Ibrahim during hearing a case of missing person summoned the Chief Minister for his comments that how a person is rearrested once his or her bail is confirmed by the court. The CJ PHC said it was a total violation of the court’s order.
The court also questioned the SHO concerned if he rearrested the missing man after he secured bail from the court—upon which the SHO said he was not responsible for this specific arrest as he was not there at that time.
However, the court said police could not keep itself at distance from such cases and issued summon orders for the Chief Minister before allowing a break in the hearing.
After the break, the Chief Minister KP, Ali Amin Gandapur appeared before the Peshawar High Court (PHC) and said he himself was against such practices. He told the court that the provincial government was going to introduce amendments in the Police Act. A committee was being formed and a focal person from the government side will be deputed at the court-level.
The Chief Minister also assured the court that legislation will be made in the provincial assembly to defy the rearrest of those securing bail from the courts.
The Chief Justice PHC in his remarks said everything should be done within the ambit of law. The court then allowing time to the provincial government, adjourned the hearing for 21st October.

CM appoints Salma Taimur focal person

LAHORE, Sep 30 (APP):Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has appointed MPA Salma Sadia Taimur as her focal person for the Garment City and Women Vocational Training Centers.
As per a notification issued by the CM Office on Monday, MPA Salma Sadia Taimur has been tasked with monitoring the establishment and operationalization of the Garment City, besides ensuring the provision of high quality of training to women in Vocational Training Centers.
She will also provide regular updates to the Chief Minister on the progress of the Garment City project.

Int’l Translation Day: AIOU emphasizes importance of language

ISLAMABAD, Sep 30 (APP):Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) prioritizes the promotion of intellectual foundations, actively engaged in opening the closed doors of culture and civilization through translation.
These remarks were made by Professor Dr. Nasir Mahmood, Vice-Chancellor AIOU, during a seminar held in celebration of International Translation Day.
He highlighted that the university is giving special attention to the promotion of languages and has established centres for Russian, Chinese, and Turkish languages, with a Japanese Language Center to be inaugurated soon.
The Vice-Chancellor also extended his congratulations to the Center for Languages and Translation Studies for organizing the successful event on International Translation Day.
Other notable speakers included Professor Dr. Alia Sohail, former Vice-Chancellor of Rawalpindi Women University; Brigadier Waseem Ahmed, former Director of ISPR; Dr. Asghar Nadeem Syed, Dean of Languages at University of Lahore; Dr. Qibla Ayaz, former Vice-Chancellor of University of Peshawar; and Dr. Shehzad Iqbal Sham, Senior Research Fellow.
The event was hosted by Dr. Lubna Umar from the Center for Languages and Translation Studies.
Speakers highlighted the vital role of those who have shared intellectual foundations, describing them as unsung heroes who have opened new doors to knowledge and creativity.
They emphasized that nations are built through language, with countries like Germany, China, the Netherlands, and Australia exemplifying significant progress through their linguistic capabilities. Today, we honor those who have conveyed these foundations.
The transfer of one language into another signifies cultural integration, and true translation seamlessly brings one creation into another, making it feel natural and effortless.
Dr. Qibla Ayaz underscored the significance of translation in academic fields, noting that it is a long and dedicated intellectual effort.
He added that translators have historically played a crucial role in spreading knowledge and ideas.
Dr. Ghulam Ali, Director CeLTs, expressed his gratitude to Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dr. Nasir Mahmood, and all departments for their support in organizing the event.
He mentioned that this seminar was part of the ongoing Golden Jubilee celebrations at the university.

Pakistan, Oman to promote interfaith harmony, peace through dialogue: Salik

ISLAMABAD, Sep 30 (APP):Minister for Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony, Chaudhry Salik Hussain has emphasized the need for Pakistan and Oman to work together in promoting religious harmony, peace, and tolerance through interfaith and intercultural dialogue.
Speaking during his three-day visit to Oman, he made these remarks during a meeting with his Omani counterpart Minister of Endowments and Religious Affairs, Sheikh Mohammed bin Said bin Khalfan Al Mamari.
Salik said the challenges faced by the Muslim world today require the promotion of unity, tolerance, and religious harmony. He stressed the importance of unity among Muslim countries, particularly in the current global context, which demands efforts to promote harmony, tolerance, and peace. He highlighted that dialogue between religions and civilizations is essential for global peace, and that respect and tolerance are integral to Islamic teachings.
Salik lauded Oman’s security forces for their swift response following the attack on a mosque in Muscat in July, which prevented further escalation. He also proposed initiatives for exchanges between religious scholars and experts, to deepen the understanding of Islamic teachings through joint conferences and seminars on key religious topics.
Salik further suggested establishing student exchange programmes between religious institutions of both countries, focusing on the study of Shariah, Quranic teachings, and Islamic history.
The two officials discussed various proposals to address growing trends of religious intolerance, terrorism, and sectarianism, while also fostering peace and interfaith harmony. During the meeting, both sides agreed to enhance cooperation in countering extremism and promoting interfaith harmony. They agreed on potential cooperation to improve the curriculum of religious schools (madrasas) in line with contemporary Islamic teachings.
