PHC to organise awareness seminar on dengue treatment

LAHORE, Sep 16 (APP):The Punjab Healthcare Commission (PHC) will organise an awareness seminar for the dengue treating medics this coming Thursday.
The seminar will be jointly chaired by Provincial Health Ministers Khawaja Salman Rafique and Khawaja Imran Nazir. Chief Executive Officer PHC Dr Muhammad Saqib Aziz will highlight the Commission’s pivotal role in advancing patient safety and elevating the quality of healthcare services for dengue patients and future strategies aimed at managing the dengue fever.
Chairperson of the Dengue Expert Advisory Group (DEAG) Prof Muhammad Imran Hasan Khan will highlight the role of the Group in combating the dengue epidemic through capacity-building of the healthcare service providers across Punjab. Head of the Medicine Department at Allama Iqbal Medical College Prof Tanvir-us-Salam, as the keynote speaker, will focus on the diagnosis and management of dengue cases.

ISLAMABAD, Sep 16 (APP):The Pakistani Zaireen accompanied by Deputy Head of Mission, Pakistan High Commission, New Delhi, Asif Khan on Monday placed the traditional Chaddar at the Shrine of Hazrat Khawaja Allauddin Ali Ahmed Sabir (RA) at Kaliyar Sharif.
Some 81 Pakistani Zaireen arrived in Kaliyar Sharif on Sept 14 to participate in the 756th annual Urs of Hazrat Khawaja Allauddin Ali Ahmed Sabir (RA), and will remain there till Sept 20, a message received from India said.
After placing the traditional Chaddar on behalf of the people and Government of Pakistan, Deputy Head of Mission and the Zaireen offered  prayers for the progress and prosperity of Pakistan.
On arrival at the Dargah, Deputy Head of Mission and Pakistani Zaireen were welcomed by Sajjada Nasheen Hazrat Shah Ali Manzar Aijaz Quddusi Sabri.
Asif Khan thanked the Sajjada Nasheen and the organizers for facilitating the visit on the auspicious occasion.
The Pakistani Zaireen attend the annual Urs Mubarak of Hazrat Khawaja Allauddin Ali Ahmed Sabir (RA) under the framework of 1974 India-Pakistan protocol on visits to religious shrines.

ISLAMABAD, Sep 16 (APP):Chairman Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has extended heartiest greetings to the entire nation on the blessed occasion of Eid Milad-un-Nabi (Peace Be Upon Him).
In a press release issued by the Media Cell Bilawal House, he remarked that the Holy Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) came as a beacon of mercy for all of humanity, and every aspect of his life serves as a guiding light for us.
He emphasized that the message of the Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him) transcends time, place, and borders, offering wisdom and guidance for all generations and communities.
Bilawal Bhutto urged the nation to work towards building a society grounded in the teachings of the Holy Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him), one where peace, tolerance, and brotherhood prevail.
“We must follow the example of our beloved Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him) by striving to bring ease and comfort to the lives of others,” he said.

Pakistan-Indonesia Joint Exercise Elang Strike-II conducted at NCTC

RAWALPINDI, Sep 16 (APP): Pakistan-Indonesia Joint Exercise Elang Strike-II was conducted between Pakistan Army and Indonesian Armed Forces at National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC), Pabbi on Monday.

Exercise Elang Strike-II is second exercise in Counter Terrorism domain between both the countries, an Inter Services Public Relations news release said.

A week-long Exercise Elang Strike-II commenced on 08 September 2024. The exercise was aimed at mutually beneficial sharing of experience and training methodology between the two armies which have strong brotherly relations.

At the closing ceremony, General Officer Commanding 17 Division was the Chief Guest. Colonel Budi Wirman, Defence Attaché of Indonesia also attended the closing ceremony.

The troops displayed highest standards of professional excellence during the conduct of exercise.

Economic progress hinges on business community’s success: MNA Malik Abrar

ISLAMABAD, Sep 16 (APP):The government is fully cognizant of the challenges faced by the business community and is making concerted efforts to address their concerns, ensuring their well being and contributing to the country’s prosperity.
This was said by Member National Assembly ( MNA) Malik Abrar Ahmed while addressing the hugely attended Founder Group’s reception hosted by Group leader TWA Tarnol Wajid Ayub in honour of President Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) Ahsan Zafar Bakhtawari, said a news release here on Monday.
The event was attended by Coordinator to the Prime Minister on National Health Services Dr. Malik Mukhtar Ahmed Bharath, MNAs Anjum Aqeel Khan, Raja Khurram Nawaz, Malik Sohail Khan Kamrial, Ehsan Bajwa, MPAs Raja Hanif, Ziaullah Shah, Malik Maqsood, former MPA Sardar Iftikhar Khan Mittu and former Deputy Mayor Islamabad Chaudhry Riffat Javaid.
Malik Abrar highlighted the vital role of the business community in powering the economy, underscoring the need for prompt resolution of their issues to ensure the country’s continued progress and success.
He reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to supporting the ICCI in its endeavors to facilitate ease of doing business for the entrepreneurial community.
Ahsan Zafar Bakhtawari reiterated the Chamber’s commitment to serving the community, stating that its doors are always open to address problems and facilitate ease of doing business. During his tenure, he has made concerted efforts to strengthen linkages for business promotion, with a special focus on tourism development.
The main initiatives included conducting foreign trips to explore new business opportunities and hosting Tourism Summits in Skardu to showcase the breathtaking treasures of the northern areas. These efforts have helped highlight the region’s vast tourism potential, attracting investors and tourists alike, he added.
He urged policymakers to consult with business leaders and involve them in the decision-making process while formulating economic policies. This collaborative approach, he argued, is crucial for creating sustainable and effective policies that drive economic growth and development.
Chairman Founder Group Khalid Iqbal Malik said that ICCI, under the visionary leadership of President Ahsan Zafar Bakhtawari, is dedicated to serving the business community with unwavering commitment and selflessness.

CCP issues show cause notices to ten steel suppliers for collusive bidding

ISLAMABAD, Sep 16 (APP):The Competition Commission of Pakistan (CCP) has  issued show cause notices to ten steel suppliers for collusive bidding.
The CCP has issued show cause notices to ten steel structure suppliers involved in procurement tenders floated by various Distribution Companies (DISCOs) for the alleged collusive bidding a, prima facie, violation of Section 4 of the Competition Act, 2010, said a press release issued here on Monday.
The ten undertakings include M/s. AM Associates (Pvt) Ltd, M/s. Ajmer Engineering Electric Works (Pvt) Ltd, M/s. Khalifa Sons (Pvt) Ltd, M/s. Siddique Sons Engineering (Pvt) Ltd, M/s. Vision Engineering (Pvt) Ltd, M/s. AW Engineering (Pvt) Ltd, M/s. FN Power (Pvt) Ltd, M/s. Gujranwala Cable (Pvt) Ltd, M/s. AH Associates (Pvt) Ltd, and M/s. Process Dynamics (Pvt) Ltd.
The CCP took suo motu notice and initiated an enquiry under Section 37(1) of the Competition Act, 2010. During the enquiry, search and inspections were also conducted at the premises of three Lahore-based companies, where critical documents and records were impounded for further examination. During the enquiry, bidding data from 2015 to 2022, obtained from all DISCOs, particularly regarding the procurement of transmission towers, was analysed.
Economic evidence revealed a consistent pattern of bidding where these companies appeared to have submitted identical or near-identical rates, with differences as small as 0.001% to 1%. Out of 357 tenders evaluated, 135 showed signs of collusion, including identical rates, division of quantities, sole participation, and bid rotation.
Notably, M/s. AM Associates, M/s. Ajmer Engineering, and M/s. Khalifa Sons were found to have engaged in collective decision-making regarding the rates and quantities quoted, with the apparent aim of manipulating tender outcomes for mutual benefit.
The enquiry report found that this collusive behavior included mutual agreements on the number of firms participating in tenders, predetermined price-fixing, and strategic non-participation to ensure that the preselected firm would win. Such practices constitute a, prima facie, violation of Section 4(2)(a)(b)(c)(e) of the Competition Act, 2010.
The CCP’s enquiry further concluded that the anti-competitive behavior of these ten companies extends beyond provincial boundaries, affecting market dynamics across Pakistan.

Climate change not merely environmental issue but existential threat undermining human rights: Shamim Shwal

ISLAMABAD, Sep 16 (APP):Representative of the Indian Muslim Women’s Union (IMWU), Shamim Shwal has called upon world leaders particularly the United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Gutters to prioritize climate action as a fundamental human rights issue.
Taking part in an interactive dialogue along with Special Repporteurs on climate change in Geneva, Switzerland Ms Shwal while referring to the alarming effects of climate change in Indian Occupied territory of Jammu and Kashmir, said that despite the overwhelming evidence of climate change’s impact there was currently no dedicated mechanism at the Human Rights Council that addresses this crisis holistically, a news release said.
Citing the Amnesty International report, she said that the humanity was under threat from climate change.
“Kashmiris are witnessing the alarming effects of climate change firsthand”, the IMWU representative said, adding that daily temperatures were rising, with fluctuations ranging from 0.3 to 1.9 degrees Celsius.
The rising temperature, she said, has dire consequences for Kashmiri communities, particularly for those who rely on agriculture and horticulture for their livelihoods.
“The maximum snowmelt has led to shrinking snow-covered areas, disrupting our agricultural practices and threatening our water resources”, Mrs Shwal added.
Stressing the urgent need to confront the climate crisis, particularly in the context of Indian occupied Kashmir, she said that the Special Rapporteur on climate change has emphasized that a safe climate was a vital element of the right to a healthy environment and  essential for human life and well-being.
The climate change, she said, was not merely an environmental issue but an existential threat that undermines the full enjoyment and realization of all human rights.
She said that the people of Kashmir were deeply concerned about the transformation of their green fields, forests, and agricultural lands into industrial zones.
“This shift not only jeopardizes our environment but also creates an atmosphere of fear among the local population living in the foothills of the Himalayas”, she maintained.
She also sought the international audiences’ urgent attention towards the growing health related issues, including skin problems and other ailments, which were on the rise in Kashmir as a result of these changes.
Referring to the reports about Kashmir’s water scarcity, she said that rising temperature and fast melting glaciers were issues of serious concern that merits immediate action.
The IMWU representative urged the council to take decisive steps to address these challenges.
Seeking an end to the heavy military deployment in the Himalayas, she said, “The movement of the army and the deployment of heavy weapons not only contribute to the melting of glaciers but also exacerbate the already precarious situation faced by the local population”.

36 new dengue cases reported in last 24 hours

LAHORE, Sep 16 (APP):As many as 36 new dengue cases have been reported in the province during the past 24 hours.
According to a spokesman of the Primary and Secondary Healthcare department, over the past week, 237 dengue cases have been reported, bringing the total number of cases this year to 703.
In the past 24 hours, 30 dengue cases were reported from Rawalpindi, and 2 each from Lahore and Bahawalpur.
Gujranwala and Faisalabad each reported one dengue case.

Drug peddler held, over 10kg narcotics recovered

LODHRAN, Sep 16 (APP):Police claimed to have arrested a notorious drug peddler and recovered over ten kilograms hashish from his possession, here on Monday.
According to a spokesperson for police, Dhanot police on a tip-off raided and arrested a notorious drug peddler named Sajjad alias Kala and recovered 10 kg and 500 gramme hashish and a mauser from his possession.
DPO Kamran Mumtaz said that the district police would continue crackdown against drugs and added that there was no place for drug peddlers across the district.

CM launches Children’s Heart Surgery Programme

LAHORE, Sep 16 (APP):Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif officially launched ‘Chief Minister’s Children’s Heart Surgery Programme’ for the free treatment and surgery of children with heart disease, during her visit to Lahore’s Children’s Hospital Cardiac Surgery Ward, here on Monday.
The CM distributed ‘Child Surgery Cards’ among the deserving patients under the Programme. She said the operation of a sick child will be done in a private hospital if there is no place in the government hospitals. She inspected HDU and other departments of the hospital, and reviewed various facilities available in the cardiac surgery ward.
The CM inquired about the well-being of young patients, gave them gifts and also played Ludo with them. She interacted with the children, and prayed, “May Allah Almighty grant you health, we all pray for you.” She also talked to the parents of the sick children, and inquired them about the availability of various facilities. She said, “It is my mission to free every citizen of Punjab, including children, from the system of queues and waiting.” She added the number of specialist surgeons and allied staff will be increased to multiply the capacity of pediatric heart surgery in government hospitals.
Maryam Nawaz said in the first phase, pediatric heart surgery facility is being provided in government and designated private hospitals including PIC and Children’s Hospital Lahore, Multan’s Children’s and PIC, and Faisalabad and Rawalpindi Cardiology Institutes. In the second phase, facilities for pediatric heart surgery will also be provided in the hospitals of Wazirabad, Dera Ghazi Khan, Bahawalpur and Sargodha. She also observed the dashboard developed to monitor the Programme.
The CM also visited the ‘play area’ for children with heart diseases in the Children’s Hospital Lahore, and reviewed various facilities available for them there. She said the provision of modern facilities of children’s heart surgery is a sincere effort to wipe the tears of mothers and remove the diseases of young children.
The CM was briefed by the authorities concerned that more than 5,000 young children die every year due to lack of timely heart surgery. She said in Pakistan’s first treatment center for children, sick children from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and other provinces will also be treated. She added children suffering from heart diseases will not have to wait for long.
