ISLAMABAD, Sep 28 (APP): Pakistan is all set to witness the Rare Comet (Tsuchinshan ATLAS) A3 through the naked on Sunday morning.
Spokesperson of SUPARCO, Marya Tariq told APP that the comet, named Comet C/2023 (Tsuchinshan ATLAS) A3, is going to visit us after 80,000 years as it returns to the inner solar system, just passing a few million miles (25 million miles) from our home at closest approach.
This comet is currently making the turn around the Sun and has become fairly bright to be visible with the naked eye. Many people across the world have already reported sighting it with the naked eye, including Pakistan.
“If you are a night sky enthusiast and an early riser, now is the chance to have a glimpse of this beautiful visitor”, the Spokesperson said.
Currently, the comet rises around 4:45 AM and can be seen when it’s around 3-4 degrees altitude above the horizon until twilight sets in and it fades into the sunlight around 05:20 AM.
To locate the comet, look a few degrees right of East, where the sun rises; one would be able to find it with his naked eyes, given the atmosphere is clear of any haze and the horizon is clearly visible.
The comet will continue to be visible in the morning skies till October 03, and after that, it will start going down towards the Sun until it turns back around the Sun and becomes visible again in the evening sky from October 13 onwards.
As there has been torrential rainfall across most parts of the country, Sunday would be the best day to have a glimpse of this comet.
Sharing the tips for tomorrow’s viewing, the Spokesperson asked to observe it at 12:15 AM and locate Orion’s belt roughly around East; it should be around 10 degrees altitude from the horizon, which is quite a fair altitude.
One must mark any building or any object over the horizon directly below Orion’s belt. This is important because this is exactly the spot where the comet will rise.
The comet will start rising from 04:45 AM and will continue to rise; the best chance would be when it reaches 4 degrees altitude around 05:05 AM, and after that, twilight will start setting in and will fade into the Sunlight gradually till 05:20 AM.
Comets have been observed by humanity for thousands of years, and it’s only recently that they have been understood and studied in great detail.
From being considered carriers of bad omens, disasters, and turmoil in the pre-modern era to having landed a rover on the surface of a comet, we, as humanity, have come a long way.
Comets have been described in many cultural heritages for millennia, with their beautiful appearance not only mesmerizing night sky gazers but also casting fears of doom and gloom among the most. It was the curiosity of the human mind that led us to study and discover so much about comets, and now we know that these are just “dirty snowballs” originating from the outskirts of our Solar system and keep orbiting our star, the Sun.
However, it’s their mesmerizing appearance that makes night sky enthusiasts go crazy just to have a glimpse of these visitors.
ISLAMABAD, Sep 28 (APP): Federal Minister for Commerce , Jam Kamal Khan has intervenes to boost Rice exports by lifting for minimum export price.
In a significant move to support Pakistani exporters, Federal Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan has directed the immediate withdrawal of the Minimum Export Price (MEP) on rice, a measure that had been set in place in 2023, said a press release issued here on Saturday.
The Ministry of Commerce, under Jam Kamal’s leadership, issued the notification following the request of the Rice Exporters Association of Pakistan (REAP).
The MEP was initially introduced last year in response to rising global rice prices and a ban imposed by India on rice exports.
However, with the recent decline in international rice prices and India lifting its export ban, the MEP has become an obstacle for Pakistani rice exporters to remain competitive in global markets.
By removing the MEP, Pakistani rice exporters will now be able to better compete in international tenders, enhancing their ability to secure large contracts.
The decision is expected to play a key role in boosting Pakistan’s rice exports, with industry experts projecting that it could help achieve export revenue of up to $5 billion in the current financial year.
REAP has praised the decision, stating that Jam Kamal Khan’s intervention will prove instrumental in revitalizing the rice export sector and ensuring Pakistan’s strong presence in the global rice trade.
ISLAMABAD, Sep 28 (APP): The ‘World Right to Information Day’ here on Saturday is an occasion to reflect on the critical importance of the Right to Information (RTI) and the progress made and the issues faced in the implementation of the landmark legislation namely “Right to Information Act-2017” was passed by the parliament over seven years ago.
In a statement today ex-senator Farhatullah Babar president Human Rights Cell of the PPPP said that democracy is not merely holding of periodic elections and political parties taking turns. It is a governance structure that rests on the pillars of rule of law, transparency, right to information and accountability.
The 18th Amendment introduced for the first time Article 19-A which states, “Every citizen shall have the right to access to information in all matters of public importance subject to regulation….”. Under it the RTI Act 2017 was enacted by the Parliament and Pakistan Information Commission also set up to address complaints against non compliance with the law.
He said that although great strides have been taken there are serious challenges in the implementation of the law. The Tosha Khan case exposing uncomfortable truths was the result of information disclosed under the RTI. Initially the Supreme Court declined to disclose information under it but later it graciously recognized a citizens’ right to information and willingly provided the information asked from it.
He said that under the law the parliament also is required to provide information but it has been reluctant. Some years ago the senate secretariat refused to disclose information about the appointments in it and even an aborted attempt was made to exempt it from the RTI legislation.
Farhatullah Babar deplored that defene establishment has refused to comply with the law and even refused to comply with unambiguous orders by the independent Pakistan Information commission (PIC).
In one case, he said, the PIC even ordered that the information asked must be placed on its web site but in vain. The impunity with which it continues to defy the RTI law and the orders of the PIC is unsettling and does not shine any bright light on all those involved.
The President HR Cell of the PPP urged all media persons to make extensive use of the RTI law in the interest not only of democracy but also their professionalism.
There are more than 220 public and private universities in the country with more than 2 million students and tens of thousands of academics. If only 1% of them asked just one question under RTI once in two months the total number of disclosures made will exceed one hundred thousand a year. And if only 1% of the disclosures made revealed irregularities and corruption it will immeasurably serve the cause of transparency, accountability and democracy, he said.
“Let today every citizen pledge to use the RTI tool to tear apart the shroud of secrecy and promote transparency, accountability and democracy without fear”.
