KP’s digital Young visionary leads KP’s digital transformation

ISLAMABAD, Jul 13 (APP): In the mountainous belt of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), where digital access was once scarce and youth employment a constant struggle, a quiet revolution is taking shape—led not by institutions, but by a determined 25-year-old from Haripur.
Hassan Nisar, a graduate in economics from the University of Haripur, founded Metrix Pakistan in 2022 with a mission to bridge KP’s growing digital divide. Drawing inspiration from his early education in Abbottabad and his deep-rooted ties to the region, Nisar envisioned a platform that would empower rural youth through hands-on technology training.
Since its inception, Metrix Pakistan has trained more than 13,000 young people in digital skills ranging from freelancing and e-commerce to blockchain and cybersecurity. The initiative spans remote districts including Lower Dir, Malakand, Haripur, Swat, Abbottabad, Mansehra, and Peshawar.
“We’ve worked within the context of each community rather than imposing a top-down model,” Nisar told APP. “Our framework adapts to the language, limitations, and aspirations of the people we serve.”
But Metrix is more than just a training platform. It has become a movement. Youth conventions, tech bootcamps, and summits—organized under its banner—are bringing urban-level exposure to rural spaces, offering not just skills but also hope.
Beyond the digital frontier, Metrix has made inroads into health and sustainability. In collaboration with local bodies, the organization has hosted free medical camps and supported eco-tourism development in Haripur to promote employment and environmental awareness.
When tensions flared with India in 2023, and misinformation began flooding social media, Metrix pivoted. It launched a grassroots fact-checking initiative to support local administrations in debunking false narratives. “It wasn’t just about fake news—it was about restoring trust during a volatile moment,” Nisar explained.
The initiative has also become a safe haven for women navigating the digital world. More than 2,000 women from KP’s rural areas have received help in removing fake or impersonation accounts. “This is empowerment too,” Nisar said. “If a young woman is afraid to go online, it limits everything—from education to employment.”
Metrix’s success is evident in the numbers. Around 70 percent of its graduates have found employment—many through freelancing, others via startups or positions at tech firms. Partnerships with global tech giants like Microsoft, Binance, Bitget, and CoinEx have further unlocked opportunities in blockchain and Web3 technologies for KP’s youth.
Dozens of students from once-isolated districts now run e-commerce sites and hold international contracts. “Digital literacy isn’t just a skill—it’s a spark that ignites dreams,” Nisar remarked.
For his contributions, Nisar has received awards including the Pride of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Fakhr-e-Hazara, High Achiever, and Hamaray Heroes. He has also been acknowledged by the Governor and Chief Minister of KP. Yet he remains grounded.
“Recognition helps,” he told APP, “but our real metric for success is simple: one person learning a skill they didn’t have before. Start small, dream big, and the future will follow.”
As KP faces ongoing digital challenges, Nisar believes the province’s youth are ready to lead. “Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s dawn is breaking—its youth will paint a canvas of change for generations,” he said.

Sacrifices of Punjab will shatter conspiracies against Pakistan: Talal Chaudhry

0
FAISALABAD, Jul 13 (APP): State Minister for Interior and senior PML-N leader Senator Talal Chaudhary said that Punjab has consistently made extraordinary sacrifices for the unity of Pakistan and these sacrifices would shatter all conspiracies against Pakistan.
He was addressing a press conference on Sunday after offering condolences to the family of Sheikh Majid Ayub,  a young businessman from Faisalabad, who was martyred in a terrorist attack in Zhob, Balochistan.
Talal Chaudhry termed the Balochistan incident a clear precedent of Punjab’s factual commitment for national solidarity and sacrifice and said Majid Ayub, who frequently travelled to Balochistan for his textile business, was targeted on his return. He embraced martyrdom in an act of terrorism that was not random, but a planned proxy attack sponsored by enemy forces with clear links to India, he added.
He said that the enemy is attempting to divide Pakistan on ethnic and linguistic lines, but fails to realize that every street of Punjab houses Baloch, Pashtun, Sindhi, Kashmiri and Gilgiti brothers, who live, study, work and heal together in unity.
He highlighted Punjab’s historical generosity, citing its sacrifices in the NFC Award, its sharing of water resources with Balochistan and now, its blood. “When water was needed, Punjab gave its share. When money was required, Punjab contributed and now, when blood is demanded, our sons are laying down their lives”, he said.
He praised the courage of Majid Ayub’s mother and said that she had received her martyred son’s body with pride, embodying the spirit of every Pakistani mother who sends her child to defend the homeland.
Talal Chaudhary said that terrorism knows no religion, language, or ethnicity rather it is fueled by dollars and foreign agendas. He pointed directly at India’s involvement, accusing it of switching from overt warfare to covert attacks through sponsored terrorist networks. However, he said that Pakistan’s security forces and citizens have time and again defeated such enemies with resilience and unity.
He revealed that Pakistan’s security agencies conduct over 150 intelligence-based operations daily, preempting over 90% of planned attacks. The current counterterrorism campaign is a continuation of ongoing kinetic and non-kinetic operations in which the federal and Balochistan governments are fully aligned, he added.
He said that terrorists now target soft civilian spots like markets, schools, and hospitals, which is an obvious proof of their moral and ideological bankruptcy. During press conference, Talal Chaudhary condemned political leaders who only come to Punjab for votes but remain absent when its youths are martyred.
He reminded the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government of its responsibility to build Counter-Terrorism Departments, forensic labs, and smart surveillance systems to effectively combat terrorism, just as Punjab has done.
He dismissed the notion that terrorists are representative of any ethnic group and said that a terrorist is neither Baloch, nor Pashtun, nor Punjabi, rather they are enemies of humanity.
He outlined the horrifying statistics and said 406 attacks were made on gas installations, 56 schools were destroyed and 178 hospitals were targeted in addition to 219 ethnically-motivated attacks that claimed 514 lives and most of their victims were from Punjab.
He called on all political parties and citizens to unite beyond political affiliations and support the security forces as was done during Nawaz Sharif’s government when collective political support helped restore peace from Quetta to Karachi.
“We are Punjabis, Balochis, Sindhis, Pashtuns, Kashmiris and Gilgitis after we are Pakistanis first”, he said, adding that the country was founded in the name of “Kalimah Tayyabah” and its defence is a sacred duty.
He referenced the recent “Operation Sandur” as a stark reminder of what happens when enemies confront Pakistan head-on. “Whether the threat is direct or covert, the result would always be the same i.e. total defeat for the aggressors”, he added.
Addressing those who seek political mileage from foreign soil, Talal Chaudhry criticized certain PTI leaders for lobbying against Pakistan abroad while instigating unrest at home.
He said that many of the so-called “missing persons” were in fact militants who had deliberately gone underground and were later killed during counterterrorism operations.
Responding to a question, Talal Chaudhry expressed hope that this would be the last condolence visit he ever has to make, but he acknowledged that as long as mothers like Majid Ayub’s exist who embrace their martyred sons with strength and pride, the enemy would never succeed.
“We are not fighting as Punjabis or Balochis but as Pakistanis and Pakistan would always emerge victorious, Insha Allah”, he added.

CM orders measures to declare ‘No-Bird Zones’ for aircraft safety in Lahore

0
LAHORE, Jul 13 (APP): Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, in a decisive step to enhance aviation safety, has directed the launch of a comprehensive operation to eliminate bird hazards around Lahore’s airports.
The initiative aims to protect passenger aircraft from bird strikes by declaring specific areas as “No-Bird Zones” and eliminating activities that attract flocks of birds.
To implement this measure, the CM has mobilized the district administration, the Punjab Wildlife Department, and the Environmental Protection Authority. She also instructed Senior Provincial Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb to activate Punjab’s first dedicated Wildlife Force. The government has decided to shut down all illegal slaughterhouses and poultry farms operating near airports and has ordered strict enforcement of regulations on garbage disposal by businesses, particularly bakeries and food establishments in sensitive areas.
CM Maryam Nawaz said that no business activity which poses a risk of attracting birds will be allowed near airports. In line with this directive, the Punjab government has issued a formal notification declaring that poultry farms, bakeries, and slaughterhouses lacking environmental protection measures will be banned. The notification further mandates the proper disposal of animal hides and forbids open dumping practices. The use of lidded garbage bins near airports has been made compulsory.
The notification also calls for the elimination of rooftop grain scattering, pigeon breeding, and large-scale pigeon flying in residential areas. Feeding of birds in temples and public places will also be restricted, with action to be taken under the Punjab Wildlife Act against violators. Wildlife Rangers have been directed to begin operations without delay.
The government has identified several high-risk localities to begin the campaign, including Lahore Eastern Bypass, Manawan Hospital Dahoriwala, PKLI, Chungi Amar Sidhu, Ichhra Lal, and Chah Miran. These areas have officially been designated as “No-Bird Zones,” where all bird-attracting activities will be curtailed.
Highlighting the importance of this step, the government notification points out that bird collisions with aircraft typically occur during take-off, landing, or low-altitude flight, and that over 90 percent of such incidents happen below 3,000 feet, as noted by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and the International Air Transport Association (IATA). The notification stresses the need for full enforcement of the Punjab Wildlife Act, warning that arrests, fines, and punishments will be imposed for non-compliance.
Senior Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb said that these measures are vital to ensuring the safety of air travel and protecting countless human lives. She noted that air safety fencing and the establishment of no-bird zones are internationally recognized strategies to prevent aviation accidents.
