ATC acquits two in kidnap-for-ransom case

LAHORE, Mar 11 (APP):An anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Tuesday acquitted two accused in a kidnap-for-ransom case, citing a lack of evidence.
ATC Judge Arshad Javed announced the verdict while allowing the acquittal application of the accused, Zulfiqar Muzaffar and Toqeer Akram.
In its ruling, the court stated that the prosecution had failed to provide sufficient evidence to support the charges, making a conviction unlikely. It also noted that the complainant had retracted his initial statement, further weakening the case.
The Sundar police had registered the case against the accused in 2022.

India’s Byrnihat town tops global pollution list: report

NEW DELHI, March 11 (Xinhua/APP): Byrnihat in India’s northeastern state of Meghalaya has been identified as the most polluted place in the world, according to the World Air Quality Report 2024 by Swiss air monitoring company IQAir on Tuesday.

The town has a PM2.5 concentration of 128.2 micrograms per cubic meter, surpassing Delhi, which ranks second with PM2.5 levels of 108.3 micrograms per cubic meter.

Byrnihat, located on the Assam-Meghalaya border, has rapidly industrialized, housing cement factories, distilleries, and steel plants, leading to severe pollution.

The report highlighted that India is home to six of the nine most polluted cities globally.

Commerce minister explores investment, trade opportunities at Oman’s industrial hub in Sohar

ISLAMABAD, Mar 11 (APP): Federal Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan, on his three-day official visit to Oman, spent his first day in Sohar, the country’s key industrial hub.

His engagements focused on enhancing bilateral trade, investment, and industrial collaboration between Pakistan and Oman, said a press release issued here on Tuesday.

The minister began his day with a visit to Sohar Port and Free Zone from where he was received by Mohammad Al Shizawi, CEO of Sohar Freezone and Vice President of Sohar Port, along with senior officials Mr. Ahmed Al Hosni and Mr. Ali Al Yamani.

Accompanied by Ambassador, Syed Naveed Safdar Bokhari and Counsellor Commercial Ishrat Hussain Bhatti, the minister was given a detailed briefing on the port’s state-of-the-art facilities and its role as a major trade and logistics hub.

A presentation was also delivered on the integrated free economic zone and industrial city, highlighting the strategic importance of Sohar, which handles 80% of Oman’s international trade and industrial activities.

Following the briefing, Minister Jam was taken on a guided tour of the port’s various industrial clusters and key sectors.
During discussions with Omani officials, he emphasized the potential for enhanced trade cooperation, particularly in expanding Sohar Port and Free Zone’s reach through Pakistan to Central Asia and China.

He also highlighted key sectors for joint ventures and investment opportunities between Pakistani and Omani businesses.

Later, the minister proceeded to the Governor’s Office of North Al Batinah Province, where he was received by Muhammad bin Sulaiman Al Kindi, Governor of North Al Batinah, and Engr. Said Al Abri, Chairman of Sohar Chapter of the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI).

The meeting was attended by members of the Sohar branch of OCCI, prominent industrialists, and business leaders, who engaged in discussions on strengthening commercial ties.

The minister reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to boosting trade with Oman, particularly in the industrial and logistics sectors.

Concluding his engagements in Sohar, the Minister was taken on a city tour and later offered prayers at the iconic Sultan Qaboos Mosque of Sohar, reflecting Pakistan’s strong cultural and historical connections with Oman.

The minister’s visit marks a significant step toward deepening economic collaboration between Pakistan and Oman, with further high-level meetings scheduled in Muscat in the coming days.

Larkana Police arrest 7 criminals

LARKANA, Mar 11 (APP):Under the directives of Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP)  Ahmed Chaudhry QPM, PSP, Larkana Police continues its crackdown against criminal elements on Tuesday, arrested seven suspects from various locations.
SSP stated the arrested suspects are proclaimed offenders, absconders, and wanted in serious criminal cases,  Noedero Police arrested drug dealer Azhar Mirani from Peer Jan Muhammad area with 1,300 grams of hashish, Taluka Police apprehended proclaimed offender Haider Bugti from Mari Chowk area.
Separately, recovered and returned a stolen motorcycle to its owner, Irshad Ali. Similarly, DSP Abdul Malik Bhutto Police arrested absconding suspect Saleem Singhar Chandio involved in a theft case.
Gureloo Police Captured wanted suspect Rabnawaz Abro in a kidnapping case.
He said that Dokri Police arrested criminal Saddam Rang with 1,950 grams of hashish. Bakapur Police apprehended proclaimed offender Mashooq Bhagio in a murder case. Allahabad Police arrested suspect Zohaib Korai from Rand Colony area with hashish and registered a case.
Interrogation and further legal proceedings against the suspects are underway.

ATC extends Azam Swati’s interim bail in May 9 cases until April 15

LAHORE, Mar 11 (APP):An anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Tuesday extended the interim bail of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Azam Khan Swati in five May 9 cases, including the attack on Jinnah House, until April 15.
ATC Judge Manzer Ali Gill presided over the hearing, during which Swati appeared before the court as his interim bail expired.
During the proceedings, DSP Legal Javed Asif requested additional time to present case records, informing the court that key documents, including those related to Jinnah House, had been sent to the Supreme Court and were currently unavailable for submission.
Responding to a court inquiry, Asif stated that the Supreme Court was reviewing the approval of bail for 60 accused individuals and would conduct hearings in April.
At this stage, the investigating officer informed the court that the investigation had been completed and that Swati had been found guilty in the cases.
Following the arguments, the court extended Swati’s interim bail until April 15 and adjourned further proceedings.

Wafaqi Mohtasib inaugurates official WhatsApp Channel

ISLAMABAD, Mar 11 (APP):Wafaqi Mohtasib, Ejaz Ahmad Qureshi on Tuesday said Wafaqi Mohtasib’s Office is committed to redressing public complaints relating to maladministration in the federal government agencies and it will continue to make efforts to build greater awareness about the role and scope of work of the institution.
He was addressing the inaugural of official WhatsApp channel at the Wafaqi Mohtasib Secretariat.
He said that any person aggrieved by the administrative excesses of the government agencies can approach this Office for speedy and free of cost redressal of his complaint.
Ejaz Qureshi said that during the year 2024, it received 226,372 complaints out of which as many as 223,198 complaints were redressed within the statutory time limit of 60 days. The institution has also achieved an impressive implementation rate of 93.21% of his decisions in 2024 as against 85.7% in 2023.
He stated that expanding outreach and accessibility has always been a high priority for this Office. He observed that the institution has witnessed significant expansion since1983 when it started operation with only four regional offices at provincial capitals which now has presence in 24 major cities including Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan.
He said that opening of new regional offices and the greater use of IT tools has introduced further efficiency in the handling of complaints. “Now, multiple means are available for the general public to lodge their complaints including website, mobile phones, email, hearing via zoom link etc. which provide easy accessibility to the complainants for availing services being offered by this Office”, he maintained.
Ejaz Ahmad Qureshi invited the members of civil society and media fraternity to follow the official WhatsApp Channel to remain updated about the activities of the institution. He expressed confidence that the  active presence on various social media platforms will greatly contribute towards raising awareness about the institution and enhance its outreach and connectivity with the general public.

KP govt reshuffles 11 DEOs of Rescue 1122

In a notification issued by Relief and Rehabilitation Department, DEO Abbottabad Arif Khattak has been transferred and posted as DEO Tank, DEO Kohistan Loser Sajid Ullah has been transferred and posted as DEO Haripur replacing by Rafiullah who has been transferred and posted as DEO Swabi.
Similalry, DEO Swabi Awais Babar Swabi has been transferred and posted as DEO Chitral Lower, DEO Orakzai Bilal Afridi has been transferred and posted as DEO Lakki Marwat, DEO Dir Lower Sanaullah has been transferred and posted as DEO Mansehra, DEO Lakki Marwat Jan Muhammad has been transferred and posted as DEO Abbottabad.

Islamabad Police ensuring robust security measures during Ramadan: IG Rizvi

ISLAMABAD, Mar 11 (APP):Inspector General of Police (IGP) Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi, visited various areas of the city on Tuesday to inspect security arrangements at mosques and imambargahs during Iftar, Sehri, and prayer times.
A police spokesperson told APP that during the visit, IG Rizvi met with on-duty officers and commended their dedication. He praised the personnel for remaining vigilant to ensure the safety of citizens.
IG Rizvi emphasized that security duties at mosques and imambargahs hold paramount importance during the holy month of Ramadan. He directed senior officers to remain in the field and ensure that all necessary arrangements for Sehri and Iftar are provided to personnel on duty.
“Despite harsh weather conditions, our officers stand alert to protect lives and property. Their service allows citizens to worship peacefully and sleep securely,” the IG Rizvi remarked, adding that any negligence in security duties at mosques and imambargahs would not be tolerated.
IG Rizvi further stated, “My officers are away from their families, standing guard day and night for public safety. Each officer is like family to me, and it is my responsibility to care for them.”
Expressing pride in his force, he added, “I am proud of my officers who fulfill their duties during Sehri and Iftar, sacrificing time with their loved ones. I will always stand by them. Every officer of Islamabad Police is present in the field, as this is both our duty and a form of worship.”
