SALU Seminar urges youth to embrace Iqbal’s timeless message of courage, self-discovery

SUKKUR, Nov 10 (APP):Shah Abdul Latif University (SALU) on Monday hosted a seminar on “Iqbal’s Message to the Youth”, organised by the Department of Pakistan Studies, urging students to draw inspiration from Allama Iqbal’s philosophy of self-realisation, courage, and societal contribution. The event marked Iqbal Day and drew a large crowd of students, faculty, and scholars.
In his presidential address, Vice Chancellor (VC), Professor Dr Yousuf Khushk emphasised that honouring Iqbal means living his ideals. We have a great opportunity to explore Iqbal’s thoughts his poetry linked nations, he said, highlighting the poet’s global legacy from Iran hailing him as a national poet to Heidelberg University preserving his former residence in Germany. Dr Khushk urged students to harness education and tech to lead Pakistan forward.
Dean of Social Sciences Prof Dr Naveed Ahmed Shaikh hailed Iqbal as Musawwir-e-Pakistan (Architect of Pakistan), crediting him for inspiring the creation of the homeland. Prof Dr Akhtiar Ali Ghumro (Institute of Commerce) exhorted attendees to embody khuddar (self-respect) and principled living.
Keynote speaker Dr Tariq Bin Umar spotlighted Iqbal’s faith in youth power: For him, you can change destiny, write your own fate.” With 45% of Pakistan’s population under 25, he framed Iqbal’s call as a blueprint for harnessing potential.
Dr Inayatullah Bhatti welcomed guests and praised the multidisciplinary Department of Pakistan Studies for organising the tribute. Dr Salahuddin Abro concluded proceedings by stressing national unity and perseverance – core to Iqbal’s vision.
The seminar ended with a call to action.

Three people killed in cylinder explosion

LAHORE, Nov 10 (APP):A tragic incident occurred on Monday in Nadir Market, near Harbanspura, when a gas cylinder explosion resulted in the death of three people and injured seven others.
According to Rescue 1122 officials, the explosion caused the first floor of a house to
collapse, burying several people under the rubble.
Rescue 1122 teams rushed to the scene, pulling seven people from the debris, all of whom
were alive but injured.
Three individuals, however, were found dead after being trapped under the collapsed
structure.
The explosion caused significant damage, not only to the affected house but also to a neighboring
building, as debris from the collapse fell onto it.
The injured were immediately transferred to the hospital for medical treatment.
A loud blast was heard in the Harbanspura area as the gas cylinder burst, triggering the building’s
collapse.

ANF arrests 8 smugglers, seizes over 97 kg of drugs worth Rs 83.7 million

RAWALPINDI, Nov 10 (APP):The Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) has arrested 8 suspected drug traffickers, including 5 women, and seized 97.165 kilograms of narcotics worth as much as Rs 83.7 million during 7 operations conducted across the country, an ANF Headquarters spokesman said on Monday.
He stated that 19 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine (“ice”) absorbed into clothing were recovered from the luggage of two passengers, including a woman, bound for Jeddah at Allama Iqbal International Airport, Lahore.
In another operation at the same airport, ANF personnel recovered 1.6 kilograms of ice concealed in the shoes of three passengers travelling to Jeddah, arresting two women and a man on the spot.
The spokesman added that 64.565 kilograms of heroin concealed in women’s garments were seized from a parcel destined for the United Kingdom at Islamabad International Airport, leading to the arrest of the sender.
Similarly, six kilograms of hashish were recovered from the luggage of a female passenger near Kalabagh Railway Station.
In Peshawar, 1.2 kilograms of hashish were found in a parcel booked for Karachi at a courier office on Ring Road.
In Karachi, another 3.6 kilograms of hashish were seized from the possession of a female suspect, while in Dera Ismail Khan, 1.2 kilograms of the same substance were recovered from a motorcyclist on Bhakkar Road.
Cases have been registered against all the arrested individuals under the Control of Narcotic Substances Act, and further investigations are underway, the spokesman concluded.

Five arrested for torturing man

SARGODHA, Nov 10 (APP):Satlite Town Police on Monday arrested five individuals involved in brutal assault of a man on Canal Road, near Sargodha Enclave.
According to police reports, the victim, Ehtshaam Ashraf  was returning home after closing
his shop when he was attacked by the suspects. Saqib, Abrar, Shahzaib, and two others
stopped his motorcycle and began beating him with iron rods.
Police officials revealed that the altercation was the result of ongoing domestic tensions
between the victim and the accused.
The police managed to apprehend all five suspects.

Provincial Policy Dialogue on Girls’ Education held in Peshawar

PESHAWAR, Nov 10 (APP):Blue Veins, a civil society organization working to improve girls’ secondary education in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with the support of the Malala Fund, organized a Provincial Policy Dialogue with the Elementary and Secondary Education Department (E&SED) to address key challenges facing girls’ secondary education in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The dialogue brought together over 60 officials from the Directorate and Secretariat of E&SED, education reform experts, to discuss ways to improve efficiency, transparency, and the role of Parent-Teacher Committees (PTCs) in enhancing girls’ education outcomes.
Participants identified community participation and efficient budget utilization as critical pathways to reducing school dropouts, improving access to facilities, and ensuring equitable education for girls in both urban and rural areas.
“Parent-Teacher Committees can be true game changers,” said Ijaz Mohammad Khalil, Advisor Governance, E&SED, Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
When parents and teachers work together, they not only help address issues like missing facilities but also strengthen accountability and ownership at the local level.
A well-functioning PTC ensures that every rupee is spent effectively, contributing to better retention and lower dropout rates, especially among students and especially girls, he said.
During the session, the Department reiterated its commitment to transparency and good governance as cornerstones of educational reform in the province.
“The Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is fully committed to ensuring transparency, accountability, and good governance in the education sector,” stated Shahid Hussain, Deputy Director, Planning & Development, E&SED.
“We are taking concrete steps to make financial processes more transparent and to empower school-level management structures for better outcomes.”
Speaking on behalf of Blue Veins, Yumna Aftab, Program Officer, highlighted the collective responsibility to ensure that every girl has access to quality education.
“Investing in girls’ education is investing in the future of our province,” she said.
“We deeply appreciate the provincial government’s Good Governance Roadmap, which provides a strong framework for improving education management and ensuring accountability.
Together, with the support of communities and PTCs, we can close the gaps and make quality education a reality for all girls in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.”
The dialogue concluded with a shared commitment among government officials, educators, and civil society to strengthen coordination, promote community engagement, and advocate for increased education financing that prioritizes girls’ education.

Four proclaimed offenders held

FAISALABAD, Nov 10 (APP):The police arrested four proclaimed offenders involved in  dacoities and attempted murder on Monday.
According to a police report, Tandlianwala police arrested a proclaimed offender, Adnan,
who had been at large for the last two-year.
Roshanwala police held three proclaimed offenders, Waqas, Rafiq and Samar Abbas Shah.

KP lifts ban on postings and recruitments

PESHAWAR, Nov 10 (APP):The government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has lifted ban on transfers, postings and recruitments of government employees.
The restriction had initially been imposed by the Chief Minister due to the absence of a provincial cabinet.
With the cabinet now formed, the ban has officially been removed. According to official sources on Monday, transfers to positions of Grade 17 and above will now require approval from the concerned administrative secretary, minister, advisor, or special assistant.
The Chief Minister has also directed that recruitment processes be conducted strictly on merit.
 As part of the new administrative orders, senior police officer Muhammad Ali Gandapur has been appointed Additional Inspector General (AIG) Elite Force Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, while Muhammad Hussain has been posted Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Crime and Investigation Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The Chief Minister’s Secretariat emphasized strict compliance with these new directives.

PM grieved over death of educationist, intellectual Dr Arifa Zahra

ISLAMABAD, Nov 10 (APP): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday expressed deep grief and sorrow over the death of renowned educationist, intellectual, and literary figure Dr. Arifa Syeda Zahra.

In a statement, the prime minister paid rich tribute to Dr. Arifa Syeda Zahra for her outstanding academic and research contributions, particularly her dedicated efforts toward the promotion of the Urdu language.

He prayed for peace for the departed soul and conveyed condolences to the family, students, and academic community.

SPC signs MoU with Test Care Lab

SARGODHA, Nov 10 (APP):A memorandum of understanding (MoU) had been signed between the Sargodha Press Club (SPC) and Test Care Lab, offering a 50% discount on all medical tests for journalists.
The signing ceremony took place at the Sargodha Press Club, with Mubashir Hassan, CEO
of Test Care Lab, attending as the chief guest.
Also present at the event were Abdul Hanan Chaudhry, President of the Sargodha Press Club, Joint Secretary Rana Muhammad Arif, and a large number of local journalists.
Under the agreement, all registered members of the Sargodha Press Club are entitled to a 50% discount on all medical tests at Test Care Lab.
During his speech, Mubashir Hassan emphasized Test Care Lab’s commitment to providing quality healthcare, highlighting the use of advanced diagnostic equipment and well-trained medical staff.
Abdul Hanan Chaudhry, President of the Sargodha Press Club, praised the initiative as a positive step toward journalists’ welfare.

Police seize illegal arms, narcotics in major operations

KOHAT, Nov 10 (APP):The district police on Monday made significant progress in their ongoing campaign against crime, conducting a series of coordinated search and strike operations across the district under the directives of District Police Officer (DPO) Shahbaz Elahi.
According to police spokesman, the operations led to the recovery of a large cache of illegal weapons and narcotics, as well as the arrest of multiple suspects involved in various criminal activities.
Similarly, under the supervision of SHO Cantt Khizar Farid Khan, police carried out targeted raids at several locations, resulting in the arrest of six suspects.
The recoveries included two rifles, eight pistols, dozens of cartridges, and 215 grams of crystal methamphetamine (ice). All accused have been booked, and further investigations are underway.
In a separate incident, SHO City Police Station Fayyaz swiftly apprehended a suspect identified as Sultan, who had allegedly stolen a motorcycle from outside a citizen’s residence.
Through modern investigation techniques, the stolen vehicle was traced and recovered. The accused has been remanded for further legal action.
DPO Shahbaz Elahi praised the prompt response and dedication of the police teams, reiterating that Kohat police remain fully committed to maintaining law and order and ensuring the safety of citizens.
